We always enjoy our visits to Stanford's. This particular visit we had one of the best servers. His name is Michael and he is a very personal and friendly/funny! After work I stopped by Northgate with a buddy on a Sunday afternoon- five pm. The initial plan was to go to the Ram and get happy hour drinks for an hour and then get dinner. That plan was a no-go since The Ram doesn't have a happy hour on Sunday from 3-6 like the weekdays. We were going to pack up and go over to Red Robin for drinks and fries instead, but then we both looked up and over to our right...BOOM! There was the building, there was my phone in my hand. I quickly text messaged google and got the number to Stanford's before we even got back to my car. "Hi, you reached Stanford's! How may I help you?" I winced at the high pitched bubbly voice and stoically asked about the happy hour. "3 to 6" She replied promptly as we walked the few paces from my parked car to the door. Once inside, I noticed a screen with a ball game on, and there were a few couples in their early 20's hiding within the booths. It was extremely dark and weird, like a psuedo-classy joint for people with no discernment of style. I am pretty sure I remember at least one hanging Tiffany lamp. We immediately went and sat down at the bar. A ripped dark haired college bro with sleeve tats asked us if we knew what we wanted. We told him not yet and picked up the happy hour menu. Only appetizers. And not very appetizing looking ones at that. Where were the drinks? Where were the 2 dollar wells, or 2.75 micros, or even a dollar off top shelf? Nothing, there was not any type of sign of a discount or deal. I asked the brotender, I mean, bartender, about the happy hour, and was informed it was on apps only. The house mixed drinks sounded like some sugared sippings that a prom queen would find delightful at a pool party in southern California, and the martinis were not looking much better. So much for class. I figured I could get a cheaper grey goose and oj over at Red Robins, and we got up and did just that. I ended up getting a BLTA and fries plus booze and still kept our bill for two under 30 bucks. read more

We drive by this place all the time and decided to drop in for dinner. There was a 20 minute wait for dining room, even though tables were empty. Found a table in the lounge area immediately and was promptly greeted by our waiter. I prefer the swordfish scampi and my wife the chicken Marsala. Both dishes were good and the portions adequate. The atmosphere was not too loud and we were able to connect and converse. Total bill was around $50 for the two meals, this is with no Desert or appetizers. The interesting note was a "surcharge" added to the final bill that described it as a way of not having to raise prices on food due to the new $15/hr minimum wage. Seems a little deceptive to stick the patron with this burden at the end of the meal. It's hard to identify the worst part to this meal because it was a terrible from beginning to end. I recently went here to get dinner with my girlfriend and and was very disappointed with the service and the food. After being seated for 20 minutes we started getting asked by the busser and hostess if we have been helped yet and when we said no they would leave and come back asking the same question. 30 minutes after sitting down we finally saw the young lady (our waitress) to take our drink order. We immediately ordered our food out of fear that we would not get it within the hour and half we had left before our movie. One hour after sitting down I started sucking on the ice in my empty glass of water because the water that once filled it had been empty for over 20 minutes. Every table started to look at there watch wonder why we have not seen out waitress at all. The only helpful people was the busser and hostess that were trying to do damage control for the person serving us. One hour and 10 minutes we saw the meal we ordered hoping it would redeem the lack of customer service. I ordered a steak medium and my date ordered a salmon medium as well. My steak came out Well and my date's came out well also. It may have been cooked to perfection l, but continued to cook itself on the plate while it waited for our server to deliver it us. We were very pleased however with the speed our waitress took with getting my bill and taking my money. If she showed that same commitment with service we would go back a lot more. My recommendation, if you go to Stanfords grab a good book or download a movie to your smart device because you will be there for a while. read more

Absolutely horrible service. My husband and I were running errands in the Northgate area and decided to hop in and try out the new restaurant. We were seated promptly at a table by the kitchen. The hostess wiped down the table with an extremely sour rag that just wreaked to high heaven. We looked at the menu, discussed our drink options, discussed appetizer options, and sat. For 15 minutes, we waited for someone to ask for a drink order, bring us water...nothing. The tables around us were being served and no one approached us for 15 minutes. We got up to leave and a server (the one we presume was ours) sneezed on the food waiting on the line and told us to have a good night. The hostesses just looked at us like nothing was wrong. Will never give them a try. It looked liked overpriced, mediocre food from what we could tell anyhow. read more

Tried HH on a Wednesday evening here. Got in around 5, when 2 out of 5 of us had arrived. Seated right away on the patio and took our orders. They were still slow in getting us our food, but we had a much better experience overall! I had a house salad, which was nothing incredible, just very basic. I appreciated the large portion though. The HH house wine was nice. Overall we were satisfied with our meals and they are redeeming themselves. Also, if you are in the mood for dessert and like pecan pie, theirs is pretty yummy! read more

I used to love Stanford's and would regularly visit their happy hour for tasty food and drinks. Last time I went there- it seemed like the quality of the food had declined. We went for happy hour and I got crab dip which tasted to salty and totally like some warmed up frozen dip. I also got the happy hour portion of chicken strips and fries- which again tasted like frozen food that was thrown in a fryer. I used to love their chicken strips and fries and it used to taste like real food! What happened Stanford's? Won't waste my time or money visiting anymore. read more

We live near NorthGate mall and decided to try this place out last Friday night for their Happy hour! Horrible service! We sat ourselves and took long for a waitress to entertain us. When one finally came, she was so snotty and wasn't friendly at all. My bf asked her what kind of IPA's do they have and the waitress just took the menu from my bf's hand and flipped it to the beer page instead of explaining which ones they got! We ordered nachos and fries. She continued to look down at her note pad and looked up at me and just said "what you wanna drink?" I said i am good with water for now thank you and she pretty much just left. We waited for a while just for them to serve one beer! and take note we were sitting on the table in front of the bar and the place was not busy at all! When our food finally came! We were so disappointed looking at the ugly presentation of the nachos. It looked disgusting! Like someone just threw raw jalapeño, corn kernels, beans, slimy cheese, and cold chicken pieces and squeezed guacamole from a tube and put it on top of the very greasy nachos. I almost threw up tasting it! $8 for a disgusting small serving of nachos. What a rip off!! The only thing good was probably the ketchup for the fries! Felt sick eating that nachos. Terrible service. Never coming back here again! What a waste of money and a Friday night. :-( I suggest you go to MAma's Tortinis by the mall instead. They are waaaaaaaaaaay better!! read more

I would give this place a zero if I could. They totally discriminated against my friend who has CPRS. They asked him to hide his injury so other guests could not see it. We had been in one other time and explained the needs. When we came back another time, the manager said, 'oh, it's you again', then proceed to ask my friend to sit on the other side of me in the booth so that other customers would not see him. We tried to again explain the situation and he actually said he did not feel ADA applied and that we were welcome to try to lodge a complaint. I will never step foot in another Stanford's if this is how they treat the severely disabled. read more

Our dinning experience was good in some respects and not so good in others. Starting off, we made a dinner reservation and informed the hostess we arrived. 15 minutes or so after the reservation the hostess asked if we made a reservation, we couldn't believe it! Finally, we we're seated. Placed our order with the waiter. One person in our party ordered a hamburger and it was pink in color on the inside. The waiter took care of the issue...just a had to wait a little bit longer for a fully cooked burger. The waiter did not charge us for the under cooked hamburger. The rest of our meals were good but nothing special really. read more

Was extremely disappointed with this place. They attempt to project themselves as a fine dining restaurant. I wish so terribly that their attempt would translate to their cuisine. I ordered the rib eye and they over cooked it-also they failed to give it a proper diamond sear. It was an egregious slanted sear. I asked the manager if the broiler was broken, she of course said no. I sent it back and it was once again over cooked! I was very displeased but refrained from addressing the issue because it was my mother's specail day. Her halibut was dry also she said. The server was kind and concerned. However, the manager was oblivious to properly mitigate an inconvenience. She left me with my veggies and baked potato, and did not replace them! So I eat my over cooked steak; that was originally sent back, with cold veggies and cold potato. Unfortunately for her she was a blonde and perpetuated a bad stereo type. Do not go too this restaurant! I am disabled with a severe nerve damage in my lower leg. I walk in the bar and sit at a booth. The manager walk over and says "O it's you again, can you please move because last time you were here people were complaining that you were not wearing a shoe on one foot . Maybe next time you could wear a sock (I can't physically have anything touch the skin) and meanwhile can you move your leg so customers don't have too see you not wearing a shoe or sock on your disabled foot ". I am unable to wear socks or shoes because of sensitivity issues in my ankle. Way to go Philip Jones manager at Stanford's in Northgate Mall. It was the first time in nearly five years that anybody has made me feel different and made my disability seem like an issue. read more

Overpriced for the quality. We were a birthday party group on a Friday evening. My dish, shrimp and pasta, was flavorful and fine. But those in our party who ordered prime rib and steaks were very disappointed with the meat's toughness and lack of flavor. Some of us ordered an apple crisp for dessert, which was way overly sweet and made with poor quality canned apples. The place is a pleasant environment, but it's not worth the prices. read more

My fiancé and I stumbled into Stanford's after an evening of shopping. We both ordered burgers, and were pleasantly surprised! They were absolutely delicious! We have gone back several times since and still love it! I also highly recommend their Pomegranate martini! Sugary but oh so delicious! Overall great atmosphere and delicious food! read more

My wife and I usually start an evening at Stanfords. Happy hour menu has some fun choices, and the service is always friendly.

It's complete garbage. Went for happy hour, ordered nachos and fries. Although it's hard to rate this type of food, the nachos were possibly the worst we've ever had. From a tube guacamole, from a tube mayonnaise like topping, about 5 cubes of microwaved chicken. It took 10 minutes to get the beer and we were sitting in front of the bar. Funny enough, we were on our way to Red Robin at Northgate and were derailed by the prospect of a new place! Easy on the eyes, the embodiment of the renovation that is previously known as NorthSuck. We should have stuck to Red Robin... The similarity of their menu to McCormick & Schmicks was immediately obvious in a categorical way - Apps, Medium Priced Food (Sandwiches, Burgers) and then the Steaks, a few Pasta Dishes... seems like one of those "safe bet" places where everyone might be able to find something they like. Heck, they even had fajitas on there! I was even thinking things were going to turn out positive when they brought out the bread - it smelled divine and it was definitely fresh, not to mention delicious. All of my hopes were dashed once they actually brought out the food... and flashbacks of another sour dinner flooded my mind. Some part of me blames myself for straying from the safe, but from the other Yelps I am thinking of letting go that guilt. We ordered a Cobb Salad that came all pre-mixed... you know, I don't know what is traditional, but I like all the little piles of "stuff" that you get to mix yourself. Egg, tomato, black olives, etc. It was pre-mixed, no piles, and no egg. No egg? Hmm. And then the sandwich, a "Steak & White Cheddar" creation - EWWWW.... steak that tasted like unseasoned hamburger and greasy cheese dripping out the side... and fries that were a sad shadow of what fries should be. Greasy and unseasoned... so plain that I was loathe to eat them! It looks fancy enough on the inside, and outside, but the substance that is the food falls WAY short of anything I deign to spend my money on. I remarked that if there was a way (without actually vomiting) I could have removed what I had consumed there and replaced it with Red Robin I would have felt much better. Eh.... not sure if this is even a solid happy hour destination anymore. Sickly sweet mojito. $5 ribs and onion ring basket had the potential to be good but it literally came out of the kitchen minutes after it was ordered. The ribs were tender and pretty decent tasting but were lukewarm on the outside and cold on the inside. The one onion ring it came with was hard and chewy and cold. The highlight of the dish was the side of blue cheese bbq sauce on the side. The macaroni and cheese, on the other hand, took an eternity to arrive. It too was also cold. The thin, watery cheese sauce was incredibly bland and the only thing that added flavor were the three or four crumbles of bacon. On the bright side the pasta was flawlessly al dente. Willing to give Stanford's another shot but their previously solid happy hour was a major disappointment. read more

Very nice ambiance and would of given more stars however I ordered the melt sandwich medium and it came out well done. However they fixed it and the new medium well sandwich came out with great flavor. Then my friend ordered wings only to discover hair yuk! The restaurant apologized for that brought out a fresh hairless plate of wings and took it off the bill. Hopefully if you decide to go you won't have the same experience. I think they have potential to be great, may try again. read more

I'm sorry, but I don't like paying $10 for a Grey Goose martini which is really just ice water and vermouth. The bartender at Standford's is terrible, the only redeeming quality about our experience was our friendly server. We visited the restaurant last night for happy hour. It was packed during happy hour and the dead immediately after. I can see why because the food at regular prices would be a waste of money and the drinks were watered down. The tater tots and onion rings were good, the spinach dip was terrible. The worse was getting a martini that tasted like water and asking to have it remade to watch the waitress take it to the bartender and have the bartender pretty much say "too bad" to the waitress. She added vermouth which didn't improve it. Seriously, you're going to charge a customer $10 for that? I later saw someone else send a drink back (because something was in it?) and saw the waitress and bartender fish something out of it and then send the exact same drink back. You'd think this place would run a decent bar to keep it's customers happy and want to come back or spend some time and keep ordering more, but no. We won't be returning to this place. Which is too bad because this area sorely needs nice restaurants. read more

Love the happy hour! I've gone here for dinner and happy hour for 6 yrs now. Hubby and I go there for the happy hour 2x a month. Can't beat their happy hour menu - both food and beverage. They are reasonably priced and sized. That is the main reason we don't go there for dinner because happy hour is dinner! Dinner here is quite expensive. The bar area is really cozy, service used to be great but recently being served by unhappy waitresses. Our favorite food are quesadilla, fries with maple bacon syrup and southwestern chopped salad. Very disappointing attitude by staff. We had to wait at the reception despite the fact restaurant was half empty. The lady couldn't care less. Once we got the table, the waiter was unnecessary rude, his only goal was to sell us up, instead of understanding our desire and mood. Actually food was mediocre at best but definitely pricey. Went to have lunch. Very good service. They refilled my Arnold Palmer without asking, and I assume they didn't charge (though I didn't see the tab). I had the club sandwich. The sandwich was really solid. Awesome bread with nice grill marks and a reasonable amount of meat. Fries were just okay. I haven't read the reviews, but I am surprised it is only averaging 3 stars...maybe I've spent too long in Tacoma away from consistently solid food :-/ read more

AWFUL. I just came back from a dinner here and was very dissatisfied. This is not a kind of menu I enjoy- all red meat (very overpriced) and fish (obviously not at all fresh), so I ordered a small salad and onion rings. Why a small salad? Because an entree salad was $15! For a chop salad! Onion rings were an appetizer for our table. I liked the parmesean on the top but otherwise there was hardly any onion even though they were about 2-3 inches tall each. I'm so happy I did not spend $15 on a salad. Seriously, this thing was terrbile. I got the Chop Chop Salad. My vegetables were BROWN. So unappetizing, but I thought I'd try it anyways. Bad idea. The sauce was just vinegar, you could hardly taste anything else and it wasn't complimentary to what was in it. The salami was hard, not like tender, but like a rock. The ham was not cooked. The garbanzo beans must have been from a can or something, they weren't drained. Everything was wrong with it! It didn't even look good! It was just brown mush basically. The people I was with got filet mignons (seriously, $30 for 7 oz?) and were satisfied, but not impressed. It's roomy inside, but very dark and uncomfortable. The only reason I gave Stanford's two stars was because of the staff. Over the course of the meal, three young women were at our table at some point. All of them were very friendly, patient and nice. Went to Panera afterward, now that's a good place! Don't waste your money here. read more

I am not fond of this place. I have been there twice and both times the service was good the employees were nice but..... the employees seemed over dressed for the type of restaurant it is, they were almost formal in their work attire? and due to the atmosphere i was uncomfortable the entire time i was there. the last time i was there two years ago as i type this I was greeted politely and very professionally at the door and had to wait 30 minutes before they could find a seat for one even though the restaurant didn't seem busy. I just wanted a steak dinner they tried to talk me out of ordering Medium rare because it could make me sick when undercooked, and i could only have two items with the steak without a surcharge. the soup and salad was exchangeable for starch and vegies or vice versa BUT added items were $5 or more each. ( a cup of soup or a salad for $5 ? ? no way) then when it got there the steak i ordered had some strange toppings on it, and it was priced like it was in upscale NYC, the portions were much smaller than i felt they should be for the money charged. the only way i'll go here again will be if someone else is paying read more

I am 100% willing to admit that I was very wrong about Stanford's. After receiving a sincere apology and promise of better future services from their awesome manager, Chad, my husband and I ventured out for another date night at this restaurant. Totally the opposite of my last visit. Delicious food (would absolutely recommend the Kobe burger!), amazing service (Craig, our waiter, was a rockstar), and polite greetings and attentiveness from everyone who passed our table. Well I went there a few times with my GF. At first (before they sold the biz to a different company) it was awesome! Fantasticly cheap and good foods during Happy Hour. And lets not forget the amazing Potato Cakes! Hell ya! Saddly they are no more..... The restaurant was sold a while back and the food is so/so now. Still good service, but they have consolodated the happy hour menu and taken away some of the favorites. And the food seems to have lost some of its flavor. New Chefs? Randomly went in with my friends to dinner. It was a Friday night around 9 and there was no wait. I dont remember the name of our waiter but he was so nice! This was our first time going and it was DELICIOUS. We got the onion rings and buttermilk chicken for apps- both to die for. Tasted fresh. I had the regular cheeseburger (one of the BEST burgers I have ever tried) and my friends had the margarita pizza which was a large portion and delicious. WAY better than pizza at cheesecake. For dessert we had the cheesecake and the lava cake, the cake was alright but my friend really like her cheesecake. read more

My husband and I went there for Happy Hour and the food was really delicious. The artichoke dip was great, the ribs were good but a really small serving. The beer and well drink prices were reasonable, but I'm not confident a lot of alcohol actually made it into my drink. You might be better off ordering the beer so you dont get charged for a mostly cranberry juice vodka cran! =) I did also spend a few extra bucks to get a signature drink, which was MUCH better! read more
