Classic American diner vibe in the best way possible. Gingham tablecloth and low lighting sets the mood for a fun casual dinner. Everything we ordered was excellent. Big fan of the fact that one order of steak entree came with multiple sides, including dinner rolls, salad, fries, and onion rings. Perfect for an indecisive girl like me who wants it all. Vegetable crudites - tastes like how it looks, crisp raw veggies dipped in dressing, very refreshing Skirt steak - I didn't want to go overboard with the steak tonight so I ordered something on the lower end. Despite that, the steak was perfectly cooked, juicy, and tender. It also cuts smooth and tasted great on its own. Sides - Salad was awesome with blue cheese, bacon, and crouton. Super generous portion. Bread rolls were as good as it looks. Fluffy, buttery, and perfect chew. Onion rings and fries were pretty standard. Best part though is that they are refillable (?) The server told us she was able to bring out more of each if we wanted. Apple pie - Not life changing. Standard crust with not a lot of flavor. Apple filling was separating itself from the pie. Probably will try a different dessert next time.

I had a good brunch experience at Star Rover! The Frozen Espresso Martini absolutely stole the show such a fun twist on an espresso martini and definitely something I would order again. The cinnamon roll was another standout! It was sooo good and easily one of my favorite things we ordered. We also tried the potato skins, which were really good, and the omelette was solid as well. The atmosphere was fun and laid-back, and overall we had a great time. I'm giving Star Rover 4 stars, but that Frozen Espresso Martini and cinnamon roll alone are enough to bring me back!

I had a great time here, though I feel like it was very over hyped for what you actually get quality wise. Where we were sorted was right next to a bus station, so waiters were constantly bumping into the back of my chair. Our waiter was attentive at the beginning and then faded away as our meal went on. The whipped goat cheese tasted nothing of goat cheese and despite being a foam, it tasted like water. The veggies were super fresh and crisp. The potato wedges were the best thing we ate! Another miss was their mashed potatoes that came with the CFC they had so much bacon grease on top with the gravy that it was too oily and off putting, it didn't taste like bacon, it tasted like canola oil. The waiter told me the crab cake was going to be twice the size of what actually came out. It was very small for it to be an entree. Overall the atmosphere was great inside and out. They do have free valet as it is sharing its parking lot, be sure to bring cash to tip the valets!

Came for brunch on a Sunday. Definitely recommend making a reservation. I had to add myself to a waitlist to get the table I got lol. Waited probably 20 min even with our reservation. Our server was great! We got the biscuits to start and they were warm and flaky and yummy. We all had a variety of drinks- highlight was definitely the frospro tini- basically a frozen espresso martini. Most of us ordered the chicken fried chicken. They share a kitchen with La Lucha so you know the chicken was fire. One friend got the pancake and that was yummy as well I also came for dinner a few weeks later after hearing about their steak night. Same jist with the reservations. Had to wait for my table yet again for 20+ minutes- not a very good system. The food was good though. A bit pricey but you get a lot of food. It comes with a salad, fresh milk rolls, and a side of fries & onion rings. The portions are huge so I ended up taking half of mine home. Overall I like this restaurant. Their reservation system annoys me and they should really be better about having the tables ready ON time. If it was a one time thing maybe I'd write it off but for it to happen both times is unacceptable

Quit reading and get to eating! I should've reviewed after the first time but I was in a food coma and forgot. When I tell you that they've mastered bread here, I mean it. First visit was for my birthday and everything from the service to the food was phenomenal. I had a steak with salad, too many dinner rolls to count (and took some home) two frozen espresso martinis, and chocolate pie à la mode. I was too excited to eat my steak so there's no picture but if you're a steak girl like I am, you're gonna love it. I think all the meals come with a salad and it's the most down home southern loaded salad you could ask for. 10/10 I'm biased to an espresso martinis ALWAYS and this is one of my top places for it. Having it frozen is just such a treat. It's giving ice cream. The next visit was for brunch and it did NIT disappoint. Started with a cast iron cinnamon roll that was to die for. Don't be fooled like I was with the icing situation, there's extra at the bottom and it's the right ratio of bread to icing. It's perfectly rich without being too sweet. Then I got the biscuits and bacon gravy with an over medium fried egg. The biscuits were sooooo fluffy but crispy in the edges even after being covered in gravy. I need to know what special things they're doing to the bread products because they're so so so so superior. Top it off with incredibly kind servers, and it's just a match made in heaven, to me, The inside can be a bit loud when it's packed, and it seems to have been packed on both my visits, but it's nothing crazy. Valet service at the front, unless you feel like driving next door for parking. MAKE A RESERVATION. It's easy to do and guarantees you a spot to eat. I don't usually mind a wait, but there's not any space to wait inside in the AC and in this heat, I couldn't imagine waiting outside for a table. But that's just me! All in all 10/10 and I can't wait to come back.

Visited Star Rover for the first time. We tried their brunch menu and was pleasantly surprised. We were seated quickly upon arrival and our waiter was very attentive and responsive to our requests. The ambiance was nice and I'm not sure what was held over from the restaurant's time operating as Superica. I ordered the chorizo and egg tacos (8/10) and I really enjoyed the tacos. The salsa was a great pairing with just the right amount of spice. The cinnamon roll was amazing (10/10). I think that has set the bar for any cinnamon roll I'll ever get again! I will say it is a must-order when you go. We also ordered the coffee cake (7/10). The coffee cake had a bit of hard outer crust/shell, but the cake inside was warm and soft. There were so many other items I wanted to order. I will be back to try their other brunch items. Overall, I would recommend this spot for a good brunch experience.

Star Rover, Star Rover -- let David come over. I was sad when Superica closed, but happy with my first visit to Star Rover. The frozen espresso martini was a hit - especially in the hot Houston heat. The IYKYK appetizer was also solid. Entree-wise, you pretty much pick meat. The meat itself is good and they cook things to my preference. In addition to the entree, all meals come with salad and sides for the table. Service-wise, the staff are very attentive and friendly. They checked on us constantly and kept our drinks topped off. The place is family style and the ambiance is laid back. That means you can enjoy a steak while dressed like you're going to a neighborhood restaurant. I think I'm going to like visiting Star Rover over and over.

Tried this spot out this past weekend and really enjoyed it! I was unsure about the attire - think red checked tablecloths but also steak dinner! I went with a cuter/upscale blue jean dress and it worked out perfectly. I had the frozen espresso martini, which was fabulous. Hit the spot on such a hot summer night. We were all pleasantly surprised to learn that each entree comes with rolls, salad, and fries and onion rings! It really made the meal, and everything was delicious. I went with the blackened redfish and think I had the best meal out of our group! The waitress recommended the ribeye, because she said it holds the most flavor. We had no room for dessert by the end, but they seem to have some good ones as well! Definitely recommend. Also: free skeeball outside!

Randomly just decided to try this place on a Saturday night and fortunately we were able to sit at the bar for a full menu because there was no seating available. Initially, service and first impression, no so friendly, but maybe they were busy because after receiving drinks, the lady bartender that took over was extremely friendly, great personality and offering suggestions. Portions were all good size, we started with the shrimp cocktail and potato skins. I had seen someone said you couldn't not get the potato skins and they were right, very good with a crispy skin. Filet was cooked good and my partner had the redfish which he really liked as well. We would definitely come back, worth it.

Brunch at Star Rover did not disappoint! I researched Houston food spots to find the best pancakes in town which led me to Star Rover. It's not easy getting a same day reservations however, I booked the day before today on open table for mid afternoon. The restaurant is a lot more spacious than I imagined. Parking is valet only but is complimentary. There's an outdoor patio and plenty of indoor seating. The decor and vibe feels retro. I felt like I was in a scene on the tv Young Sheldon. For drinks we ordered their house mimosas and the frozen expresso martini. Both of our drinks were very strong (it hits you after a while) ! For our meal we shared the Ranchers Breakfast, which came with two eggs, fried pork belly, hash browns, jalapeño sausage, refried beans and a pancake. This was such a hearty meal! My fiancé and I shared it and it was more than enough! I really enjoyed this meal as it was packed with so much flavor and so savory. Even the veggies/peppers added the perfect kick of spicy to go with the eggs. The star of the meal was the pancake which is was exactly how I imagined it be. Crispy edges and soft, buttermilk like in the middle. Loved it! Reminded me of my grandmas pancakes.

Parking is a bit crazy. You have to valet to park there or find alternative parking in the area. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The ambience is nice and the staff is friendly. I had breakfast tacos and did not care for them but I would like to go back and try something else. Their pancakes looked amazing. They have really great cocktails or non-alcoholic beverages. I would definitely recommend.

Walked across the street to undo pilates with brunch lol Definitely make resos bc they are POPPIN! We ended up waiting about 45 min. Good eats and a fun casual vibe. There's a decent sized patio outside with some games (it was rainy when we went so none of it was available). Valet parking or maybe some random street/lot parking around the area - but could be risky. Faves: CFC Hash browns Bacon, jalapeño cheddar sausage

I got the Rancher's Breakfast. All the savory items were delicious! But that pancake just wasn't it. The syrup had to do all the heavy lifting because the pancake had no flavor. I will say the crispy edges were nice but the lack of sweetness was unforgivable. While the pancake wasn't a hit, our server Jello was amazing!! He was attentive and very accommodating. I want to come back for dinner as I've read about the steaks and want to try that out

Regarding the food, the Frisée Salad was pretty good, well dressed and flavorful. The chicken sandwich was okay. The batter was crispy and flaky but it had no flavor. What made it a lot better was the coleslaw that brought a great deal of tang and moisture. The steak was not quite for me. It came on a bed of sauce that was flavorful with fresh veggies but it did not go well with the steak. Perhaps chicken would've suited better. The steak itself was dry and quite chewy. For dessert we had the carrot cake tres leches which was decent. The carrot cake flavor was there but the moisture from the cake was not fully spread in the cake. Overall nothing here was bad but with the plethora of restaurants in the Houston area I can't justify recommending or returning.

We walked and and you had to have reservations however they had 2 spots at the bar upstairs so we sat there. It was a fine dining place and we were a bit casual but still nice where we didn't stick out so terribly..lol SERVICE: We were probably at the bar I would say at least 10 mins before anyone greeted us. And 2 ladies to our right may have been there I would say about 15 mins before us, only b/c they didn't have anything in front of them just yet. Looked like thwy hadn't been there long, however, evwrytime I turned around this guy kept checking on them making sure they were good. He seemed to be some sort of manager. Anyhoo, finally a server came and greeted us. She had a unique name that now I have forgotten, but anyhoo, she was really nice. It was restaurante month there so we took advantage of there pre-made menu that came with a 3 course meal excluding drinks. We were served our drinks and not to long our apps. And the ladies next to us may have been 5 mins in between us ordering. However their food would come out fast. Once our apps were finished I know it had to have been 20 mins or longer before our food came out whereas the ladies next to use finished there apps not to long before us and had their food in the next 10 mins or so. They were actually just about done eating their main course and our food hadn't even came out yet. Then a server brought us over the desserts and I was like we hadn't had our meal yet. At this point I was a bit upset b/c I felt like since we were 2 women of color we were being over looked. There wasn't many ppl of color in this place. Matter-of-fact I think I only saw one other table that had ppl of color sitting at it. Other than that it was just us. So I th3n ask for a manager. He came, same guy that had been fawning over the ladies next to us, amd he gave some lame excuse for th3 delay and mix up with the desserts and offered us a glass of Champagne, I don't even like Champagne, he could have offered either a drink of our choice of maybe a bit off the bill for the delay. I understood it was busy, but they also know it was restaurant week and they wasn't a delay with the ladies next to us. So I felt like he was a bit dismissive and I did t appreciate it. If it hadn't been for the service or our waiter we might not have stayed. FOOD: Now I will say the food was soo good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the beef salad although it came stacked and looked so great and my friend had the meatballs which she raved about. For dinner we both had the salmon which was superb. So no complaints here. Then the desserts. I had the carrot cake and she had the chocolate genache cake. They were delightful AMBIANCE: It was packed but not uncomfortable it was just a lot of ppl. But it also was quite a big place. They had a downstairs, upstairs and an outside area, so lots of seating, however they were extremely full. The bar was quite roomy and luckily we were able to take the end corner part which was perfect, b/c not a lot of ppl passing by us. Like we had our own little section. All in all is was nice, I would only go back during restaurant month or with a date who was paging b/c outside the prepaid menu which was $55 (not including drinks) most meals went from $40-$200pp and that is no exaggeration. So yea it was quite the fine dining experience.
