So my main concern is the service, the drinks are just fine. There's a girl at this location who was exceptionally rude to me when asked simple questions about the menu. very much in a "I don't want to be here, why can't you just read" tone. When asked about seasonal menu items and their allergies she mentioned she's a supervisor of the store. I just wanna say I am upset about this as it wasn't just someone in a mood, it felt very targeted. I make this note because after handling my cash out process, she went right back to being happy go lucky with the next customer. I'm going to assume this was after the manager came onto the floor. When handing me my drink, another girl with dirty blonde hair and dead eyes borderline slams the drink down, doesn't say anything or look at me, and starts to immediately laugh and talk with the girl from before. So of course I asked if the drink was mine or not. The conversation went as follows: "Well does it have your name on it?" "Let me see here, yes yes it does! thank you!" "yeah, helps to read right?" with the snottiest tone Look. I know this isn't that deep, but it really put me off as I and my friends who frequent the location have had issues with the second girl before I just don't know her name. If i figure it out I'll update but as of right now i'm taking the long way to the one on woodward. read more

Not sure why I haven't reviewed this Starbucks before - I've definitely been a few times in the past. We weren't planning on stopping in here on Friday but we had 30 minuted to kill, so my fiance got a pistachio latte. Service was fast and friendly. The bathroom doors have locks on them, so I had to ask for the code... Not a fan of that. I was trying to find us a table and it looked like someone had set up camp at the table near the front, literally, so it might be that some of the city's unhoused hang out here. When we walked in, a girl had her laptop plugged into the wall, but her table was in the middle near the rest, which was definitely a tripping hazard. I suppose the store can't really control that though. read more

I literally just ordered my coffee and a toasted bagel with cream cheese. After almost 10 minutes of waiting, I got a refund because apparently, they can make food for some but not for all. I did NOT get my bagel and cream cheese...and they thought there was nothing wrong with that. Well,, it's officially the end of the summer. So it's time for me to purchase my yearly ration of #PSL . It just happens to be that were walking around downtown Royal Choke. It's a nice and neat coffee shop. Just like all the other starbucks. There's the pendulum lighting everywhere. Wood fixtures, bunch of posh collectible mugs, and bags and bags and bags of coffee for sale. Oh yea,, don't let me forget, they have food as well. So if you're famished,, you can definitely snack on something. Ok,, so why 2 stars??? It's not my first time here at this spot. So whatever happened to me happened before as well. This spot for some reason doesn't write names down on their cups. I don't know why, but I guess they couldn't be bothered. So,, with that being said. My order comes out the other end, the barrista yells "grande pumpkin spice latte!" Another customer who ordered like 10 minutes after me (she just ordered her drink) is like "Ooh! That was fast!" Grabs my #PSL. It happened twice, not on separate occasions, but that exact same day and time. So the system failed, I guess I gotta stand around the dispensing area like I'm at a 'Drunkin Dronuts' waiting to swoop in on my drink like a pee-on. Well,, That's that I guess. This IS a cool Starbucks indeed! Most of the ones that I have been in are quite cramped. This location has a fairly spacious, yet cozy, interior which is what makes it. There's typical booth and table seating, but also armchairs and high tables/counters with bar chairs. And still there is actually room to walk around (a plus). The outdoor seating is very limited though, but considering the location in bustling dwntwn Royal Oak, it's neat that they even have outdoor seating at all. Starbucks, in general, seems to take forever to prepare everything with the food/beverages, but they must be doing something right ;-) ...my favorite location yet! read more

Is this really where you go for good coffee, or rather to see and be seen? I think the hot chocolate is decent, the teas would be good if they ever had any nice herbal teas that I like, had to resort to some berry tea, which was not my favorite, but it was cold and I wanted something warm to drink. It is a great place to people watch, since most of the people that come here pretending to work or study actually don't do either, since they are too busy watching other people. I prefer hot chocolate from Gails, tea from Bean and Leaf or at Goldfish and coffee at Atomic Cafe. read more

Wanted to update my review to 4-STAR as this has become my favorite and go-to location in the Royal Oak area. The employees have really grown on me... they are all super friendly, know me by name and I enjoying popping in on the weekend and getting my fix. There's still a cast of characters coming and going but because there is limited indoor seating, it's not at all like it used to be. It's been nice to camp out on a Saturday morning, enjoy my coffee, people watch, etc. In a time when businesses are struggling and customer service is on the decline, it's great that this location was able to keep their core team together and keep such a positive attitude! This is my favorite Starbucks location. I like to go and sit for hours to work on my music and writing. The atmosphere is very inspiring because lots of different kinds of people walk in and there is almost a sense of community there. The staff is super friendly and they seem to know everyone. They make your drinks quickly, they are personable, kind, clean cut, and professional. One of the managers, Nick, always takes really good care of me and makes me feel very welcomed. There is a lot of different seating for any mood you may have....comfy chairs, tables for you to put your laptop on, window seats, tall "conference" tables...anything you need. I go there numerous times a week just to relax. 10/10, would recommend to anyone. read more

Convenient location but the baristas aren't exactly attentive or fast. I work in customer service so I know how it is working in a fast paced business with a lot of orders and people coming at you. But I've watched on multiple occasions where they'd stand around talking and laughing and let drinks melt or get cold while they're making others. I shouldn't have to wait for them to finish someone else's drink while they talk. and they also rarely acknowledge you so if you need something or need a drink remade, it's almost impossible to get that. Overall, it's a nice location but if you are in a hurry or need to the point service, I would come with a lot of patience or try another location. read more

I gave into my Starbucks cravings and got a drink from hetr. I have written a review in the past, but I am not sure why it is missing. The line was not too long inside and there was enough room to move around. I felt bad for a lady that was yelled at by a customer. She was a customer as well, and did nothing wrong. I thought it was professional of staff to apologize when he walked away. They did not want to escalate him further, as he was upset about his drinks being given to him at the front rather than down at the end. They wanted to make sure the female customer was okay after the incident. My drink was made pretty fast and tasted good. Only bad thing was it was not sweet enough. I should have checked before walking out. I would have turned back in, but as we walked out there was a much longer line. There was also a crowd around the area of people waiting for drinks. I did ask for my normal 6 pumps of classic, but I think the person making the drink only put 4 because it simply said classic on the drink. This mistake happens often when the number is not specified. It was still tummy though. read more

The staff at this Starbucks has shown me that they have no respect for any human decency whatsoever. I watched a barista talk down to a woman in her 90s as if she was a teenager making a scene. I sat down next to this kind old-woman who looked in poor health, but came in on her own and bought her own coffee. She was carrying a conversation with me and she we so sweet she just wanted to talk about Thanksgiving. A little while into my experience yesterday, she mentioned the coffee started to make her feel sick. Sadly she soiled herself, but she was a frail old woman and she did her best to take care of herself. She didn't act out, she didn't disturb anyone, and I was the only person she felt she could ask for help. I got her water and napkins. Shortly after, a barista came up to this woman and aggressively belittled her for her health issues. The barista demanded that she leave the Starbucks immediately, due to a "health violation" without any empathetic conversation regarding her wellbeing, or even where she can go. This is the saddest act of treating an elderly person like an animal I've ever seen. Keep on making lattes. read more

Went in for an iced caramel macchiato extra shot of espresso asked for extra caramel. They gave me some kind of crumble sugar caramel instead of regular caramel. I asked the girl to correct it and her and the other girl had an attitude about the whole situation. They remade my drink but they didn't give me the extra shot of espresso or extra caramel at the bottom. From the unprofessionalism of these two young girls I will not be back to this location. read more

I know that Starbucks prides themselves on having the same product and experience at every location. If you order a white chocolate mocha in Michigan it should (in theroy) taste the same if you ordered the same drink in Florida. Sadly...thats not always true. This is MY Starbucks. They know my name. They know my drink. I can admit I am here a lot...probably too much. My drink is simple but time after time (when I go to other locations) they make it wrong.Whats so hard about wanting "light" soy milk in my iced coffee???? Here, its always right. Not too much soy. Not too much ice. Always perfect. The barista's here are super speedy and very nice. Even with a line that sometimes streches to the door it goes by very fast. They have lots of seating here and it always seems clean. I only complaint (and its totally something that is probably not their fault) ... but it always seems like they don't get the most up to date things. I know some starbucks have "boxed lunches". Not this one. I know that starbucks is changing their bakery products (got an email about it and saw it at another location) - this one still has the same ol' stuff. Not really sure why it takes a while for things to get here....just seems weird to get emails about new products and its never in this store. Anyways...thanks RO Starbucks! Although my Barista claimed he was "Out of it" after making "The worst mistake of his life" the previous evening (He didn't elaborate) he worked hard to convince me that he had made my Caramel Macchiato into a "Perfect work of art" I was happy to see that Starbucks was open on Thanksgiving. Definitely always bustling, often a little dirty from all the traffic, kind of a pain to get to if you're driving but also one of the spots where you're sure to run into some locals you know. This is assuredly a working Starbucks meaning it's not so much a social gathering spot as it is a place where Oakers come to get work done. I've tried this Starbucks on 3 separate occasions and had a problem occur each visit. It usually takes about 10-15 minutes to get your drink after you've ordered it. Today and every time before my drink was made incorrectly (wrong milk or made it iced when I asked it to be hot). And when I bring it to their attention they always moan and groan and never apologize. Like I'm sorry I'm paying $7 for a cup of coffee, I would like it to be at least edible. Location, location, location! Situated in the heart of Royal Oak's Main St. this is a perfect spot for that morning cup and muffin, or an after dinner mocha. The staff is very friendly and they all know my drink (which I love)! There's a great flow to this store and it's very welcoming. My only beef with this location is the chairs. The metal legs of the chairs have nothing on the bottom to protect them from scratching/screeching across the floor. With lots of chairs, they get NOISY and very SCREECHY! A simple fix from walmart or home depot would stop this from happening. read more

today my mother and I went to get a peppermint mocha and a white chocolate mocha with an extra shot, extra hot. her white chocolate mocha taste like straight milk and has no shot in it. on the other hand, my peppermint mocha tasted like a hot chocolate with no shot. this starbucks always seems to have trouble with making the right drinks. read more

Wish they could hire an entire new staff. This location is next to a place I work and I have to see the staff here every other day. Almost ALL of them are unpleasant especially the boy with the red hair. I wonder how many times I have to come in and speak to them for a single person to be polite. I'm going to have to write corporate and/or avoid this location. Service without a smile (ever) is annoying when you have to deal with it regularly.
