I only come in on occasion now as this location has become a joyless experience. But today I was greeted by a new employee by the name of "Joy." STARBUCKS @ CARMEL VALLEY Parking was great, there's a lot on the side, and once you spot all the Starbucks umbrellas, you'll know exactly where to pull in. It's customer parking only. There's also a plaza nearby you can park in, but it was a bit busy when we arrived. Still, we found a spot pretty easily. This Starbucks is definitely on the smaller side. There's no drive-through, so it's walk-in only, but you can still use the mobile app or order in person. There were plenty of seats inside, from cushioned chairs to regular tables. I love coming to Starbucks during the holiday season because I always get the same drink every year, the iced peppermint mocha. I'm a huge peppermint person, so it's my go-to. I ordered a grande with light ice, and it came out to around six dollars. They also had their seasonal items out like the polar bear cake pop and pumpkin bread, so all the fall and Christmas flavors were definitely in full swing. The staff was really friendly. I grabbed an extra ice water and even filled my water bottle with no problem. My first drink wasn't the best, the whipped cream was given when I asked for none and there were chunks of chocolate at the bottom. But the staff handled it so well. They happily remade my drink and even let us keep the incorrect one for free, which I really appreciated. We sat down and enjoyed our drinks, and overall, I really liked this location. The only downside is that it's not drive-through friendly, so you'll need to have a little extra time to stop in. It's located in Carmel Valley. I do wish the outside had better ambiance, the building itself is plain and doesn't really say "Starbucks." Honestly, if it weren't for the umbrellas, I wouldn't have known it was one. Some signage or branding would've helped a lot. But other than that, it was a great experience. read more

Wow just left Starbucks extremely surprised and disappointed by how uncaring and dismissive the manager, Elise, was. I simply tried to redeem a birthday drink, not realizing it must be redeemed on the day of your birthday not even the next day, and she refused to honor it. When I mentioned that I work in the plaza and our company orders from them regularly, she looked at me like she didn't care about customers at all and just shrugged. I've never experienced this level of rudeness from any Starbucks employee, let alone at this location. They also love if you bring your dogs and are happy to give you pup-cups. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. There is also plenty of parking. Joanna is a very friendly partner and was even very nice when I came up to her mentioning I forgot to add an extra shot into my drink. However, the partners on hot bar making the beverages were ridiculing her and making rude remarks to her that all of the customers could hear. She was looking for me to hand me my spinach feta wrap and when she didn't see me, she walked it to the handoff which is all the way on the other side of the store. I then heard one of them say "wow, it's almost like we have a handoff for a reason" in a very sarcastic way and the other girl started laughing and said "I know right" and they continued to laugh. I thought Starbucks was supposed to be a team of nice and helpful people. This was extremely uncomfortable for me to watch as a customer I can only imagine how Joanna feels. Please, do better. I'm not a big Starbucks person, but when I order I always use my mobile app. At other locations when I order on the app, I walk in and my order is waiting for me. At this location they never have my order ready. I have to wait around for at least 10 minutes, usually being asked by the barista what I ordered. Today, when I arrived, I told the barista I have a mobile order. She asked my name and said it would be ready in a few minutes. I waited at least 10 minutes, watching several people getting their orders. The barista then asked if I was waiting for a in store order or mobile order. I told her it was a mobile order. She asked my name. When I gave it to her she pulled my order out from under the counter, which had been sitting there for some time. No complaints about the coffee drink I ordered, but my "warm" croissant was cold. read more

This is by far one of the best Starbucks locations due to the fact that I've been to several Starbucks throughout San Diego county and ordered my very simple but unique drink and not only do they handle the order smoothly and kindly but get it right every time. There have been a few Starbucks that have either blatantly refused me service or made me feel uncomfortable ordering my drink, though I am paying good money for it yet this Starbucks has one of the best employees to date. The chillest, nicest, coziest, friendliest Starbucks I've ever been to (which honestly isn't that many, but this place ranks high on the coffee-shop front alone). Super-fast Google wifi kept me productive during my "Work from San Diego" Friday, and they whip up a solid decaf latte (gotta fake it til' I make it as far as being a caffeine addict). Their play on an Egg McMuffin was tasty and seemed to actually be real. Lots of seating (tables and couches outside, overstuffed armchairs and tables inside), a solid number of outlets, and a rotating group of folks who all seem to be getting shit done. Forgive me why I even come here, it's the only coffee shop near by work, or at least within walking distance. The parking sucks, this one way loop with narrow spaces. The trees rain debris all over cars. The "outside" seating take up the entire side walk (pretty sure that's not legal). You get inside and it's standard issue Starbucks, dark wood furniture, plenty of light, tables, outlets, wifi. Bathrooms, generally Starbucks have clean-ish bathrooms, though I've never used these. Ambiance is meh. There is a unique smell that all Starbucks have, can't put my finger on it, but you end up smelling like it. It's always packed with people coming from near and far. The lobby area doesn't really allow for much room for the line to wrap and I've seen it out the door. Maybe get rid of all that merchandise that no one buys? Walk by the case, see half the items being overpriced ($4+ for those sous vide egg bites, come on guys). You place your order and go all the way to the corner to get it (same with online orders which is the way to go). Service is meh. When I come here I ask for a Cortado, none of their staff knows what that is and most tell me they can't make it. I know damn well they can, but they refuse to learn drinks and actually re-up on their training. I get a Cortado at most places and most other Starbucks, but here, nah, don't know how & can't do it. I even explain to them the steps the ratios, the technique. I end up getting an Americano because I don't want to argue. Meanwhile the Starbucks guests are all cramming behind me waiting to order their Frappuccino sugar loaded energy drink, like it's barely even coffee people. The prices on the drinks, when they are basic are pretty good, but those sugary one's get you everytime. It's hard to fail on so many levels and be rated well. Sure these places have a low bar to live up to, but it's supposed to be standardized. read more

Coolest baristas here (props to Steven and Chris in particular). Sis and I come here a lot as it's a convenient location (located off the fwy and near a gas station). Plus there's Chipotle right next door (you'll see a lot of people eating a burrito inside this Starbucks siphoning SB's free google wifi). The staff talk too much amongst themselves and have way too long conversations with one customer while 10 others are waiting. Its just like any other Starbucks really, the coffee is consistent of course so the only other thing to talk about would be the customer service and location. The customer service has been great each time I've gone. The lines tend to be longer at this location but in my experience they've move fast which is a plus. Per usual, the drinks are made in the order they are received and it usually takes anywhere from 3-5+ minutes before they are ready. I haven't had any mistakes with my drinks....then again, I don't usually request complicated drinks lol. The interior looks like any other Starbucks, they have their condiments table, their wall display with their mugs and coffee near the line, and food/pastries near the register. There are a few tables and chairs inside but the good thing with this location is that they have covered seating outside and plenty of it, which will be nice to enjoy during summer. I frequently come to this Starbucks location, and lately it's during the afternoon so no crazy long line and the service is on point. I get excited when my favorite barista is there making my customized drink, because he always gets it right! Also he was speedy and easygoing when me and my coworker placed a large order for our other coworkers one time which was cool. The cashiers are chipper, the inside has plenty of seating area, and I like the lush and comfortable seating in the back patio outside. I also love their $2 seasonal reusable tumblers they get in which is a pretty good deal. Come sip and sit outside to enjoy the pleasant SD weather at this Carmel Valley location! :) read more

As a Starbucks aficionado, I've been to some wonderful locations: the roastery in Seattle, multiple reserves, and unique stores across the country. This location seems inconspicuous, and frankly a little inconvenient to get to with its limited parking and access points from Valley Centre Dr. What it lacks in aesthetics however, it makes up in amazing customer service, cleanliness, and efficiency. The team here is always friendly and welcoming, regardless of how busy it is. They're so well organized and never seem to be fazed. I need to particularly thank Stephen for his amazing ability to always take time to say hi from the bar and take special care to get my drink right each and every time. He's a real leader and seems to be a calming influence on the entire store during morning rush hour. I'm impressed every morning with this store and love that even though my Starbucks isn't a fancy shmancy store that'll pop up on a Buzzfeed list, it's a great store with a fantastic team. read more

Everyone has "their" Starbucks - you know, the one you always end up at. Sometimes it's on your way to work, and sometimes it's around the corner from your house. Maybe it's a drive-thru option, or maybe you stroll inside while on the go. This location is my regular one - and beyond that, Starbucks has saved my bum many times on the road with their reliable wifi and plentiful caffeine. I'm in Canada as I write this and this tall hot cocoa/Wi-Fi combo is totally helping me out. While the brand and its products are maybe not my favorites in the coffee world, I will say that they're a powerhouse that can't be ignored and I often stop in for a reliable consistent drink and a few noms that have become staples. I'm a brewed iced coffee or a pour over kind of girl. You can keep your fancy unicorn drinks and your zombie iced mocha whatever. I'm obsessed with the sous vide egg bites and the chorizo breakfast sandwich is dangerous. You do you, Starbucks. And if you have a great staff like this location I'll give you my money. Ps.
