I've never seen such a disgusting sandwich.

This was one of the most disappointing experiences I've had. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The photos online are not what you actually get. When I stopped by this morning, the display case was almost empty. I ordered two croissants and a hot bacon-and-egg sandwich to go, and paid $25. Honestly, $15 for that sandwich felt very overpriced compared to other places. When I opened it at home, the only accurate part of the description was that it was hot. The bread was dry, there was no mayo, just one egg and a strip of bacon, and no cheese. It left me completely shocked that this is what they're serving for $15. The bread wasn't fresh either, which made it even worse. I'll be leaving reviews so others know what to expect. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place at all.

I was craving a breakfast sandwich and found Starnut Gourmet, a cute café with gluten-free options! I ordered the everything bagel egg sandwich with turkey bacon (no cheese), while my husband ordered a croissant egg sandwich, also with turkey bacon and no cheese. The gluten-free bagel tasted good, and I appreciated that it didn't crumble. However, there was something missing in both sandwiches (probably because we asked for no cheese). If I had known they would be so bland, I would have asked for a side of guac. I'll keep this in mind for next time. To drink, we ordered an oat latte and a chai cardamom, which were really good as well! Staff is really nice. The restaurant has a lot of indoor and outdoor seating available.

Latte is the face of Starnut! Love it when that cute shih tzu comes out to say hello to everyone, especially our shih tzu! The food is, quite honestly, A-ok. More of a 3.5. Nothing to sing home about but it's nice to have in rotation for brunch with the family outdoors, given we always have our dogs with us. I will say, if you have a larger party than 3, call ahead to reserve an outdoor table. They won't let you move the tables around to fit your needs and that's fine. Pricing is par for the course in our neighborhood. Coffee has always been fine but no family member has ever asked to go back here- it's usually my pleading from running out of other options. Nothing bad, nothing terribly great. Parking is easy and there's always a nice breeze going on.

I met a friend for coffee and breakfast and it seems the rest of McLean already knows Starnut is a great spot! We visited on a Monday morning and there were quite a few other groups. I ordered a latte and breakfast sandwich on the and really enjoyed both. The service was great, I look forward to visiting again soon!

The coffee is always delicious, the restaurant is always clean and it has some of the friendliest and kindest workers in McLean! Our family (including our dog!) has been coming here for years and always feel welcome and at home!

I've been to Starnut many, many times to enjoy their wonderful biscotti and coffee. It's a super place to meet friends and relax with good food. This was the first time we went for their high tea and it was wonderful. Starnut set up a table complete with a white table cloth and china in a quiet corner beneath a watercolor mural. We each received four little sandwiches, three pastries, a huge delicious croissant with butter and jam and a selection of chocolates and little cookies. We did not go home hungry. We especially appreciated that we could tailor the selections to the dietary needs/wants of our party. Starnut offered a selection of teas and was very good about stopping by the table to offer more hot water or to see if there was anything we needed. When the table became full with tasty treats and tea, we could use the two pedestals to the side to hold the carafe of milk or the dish with the honey, sugar etc. We also appreciated that we could pick a day and time of our choosing rather than being limited to a couple of days a month. Who knew that this neighborhood delight could be even better? Thank you to Starnut for an even more special afternoon with friends. Parking is available right outside.

Cute cafe - wish they had more vegetarian options and a tad expensive. The Spanakopita sandwich wasn't quite what I was expecting. There was no phyllo dough and just a spinach and feta grilled cheese panini and the mixed greens on the side were okay. While the service was nice and doing their best to keep up with bustling orders, it was a bit unclear whether the tip on the tablet (which I left $3), went to the servers or to the restaurant (I really hope the servers got it!). The bussing was a bit confusing too as I didn't realize that I was supposed to bus my own table. While it was nice to sit under the veranda with some shade, I got scorched from the sun and umbrellas would be more effective. It was nice to try the cute cafe, but don't plan on returning.

Easy to find and good size reserved parking available in the area. During rush expect the wait time to be quiet a bit more, I would highly recommend reserving it ahead of time. Seating is limited. They do accommodate walk-ins but take that chance during non-peak hours. Any party above 4 will need reservations. Ambiance is nice, wooden seats are hard, tables height is decent and atmosphere is a quiet. You also get a view of the kitchen for some of the tables. Food is fresh, great and consistent. Overall it will leave you satisfied. Menu has good selection of items. Service and friendly staff will make it a good experience. Make sure you grab a seat first and then order. You might not find any of you do the other way. A good experience overall, I will go back again to try different items on the menu and update the review.

I've been looking to try new bakeries and cafes, and this was one of the places I found; I went to try it. Located in a nice open area, the counter was clean and a few employees were working, they also have an adorable dog named Latte who walks around, SO CUTE! We didn't have to wait very long to get our order taken in line, we were seated at a table past the gelato area, and some people were sitting near the more decorated area near the bookshelf and fireplace. It had a cozy atmosphere. The staff doesn't really check on you once they give you your order but I feel like many cafes and coffeeshops are like that so it wasn't a big deal. I would return here again since I felt relaxed and the food was decent I had an everything bagel with egg and cheese), coffee was very good :). read more

Love this place!! The outdoor patio is so beautiful and great place to work. The food is just perfect not spicy and tasty. I definitely had one of my favorite white mocha here. If you want to experience low key boujee brunch in the company of McLean locals this is the space to be! The food is so fresh! Their croissant breakfast sandwich is to die for! DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS! Wish there was a zero star option. My family was refused service here. The team was incredibly rude and disrespectful. They would not allow us to sit at a table because we had a baby in a carseat on the ground. Have never experienced such atrocious service and behavior. Excited to tell everybody in my network to never give this establishment any business. read more

Wow! Not many places impress me. 12 plus years in the restaurant business can do that to a person. I can see through most chain restaurants gimmicks. I base a place on 3 things. Atmosphere, quality of product and quality of service. Happy to say Starnut Gourmet delivers on All Three! Absolutely amazing food and the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The owner, Samira, was so nice and always seemed to be smiling. The staff, was able to accommodate my disability by delivering the food to my table. They asked if I needed else and made sure I was enjoying everything. This place is perfect for a breakfast or lunch date. A great place to impress someone. It was my first and last time visit this place. I did order and leave tips. But when I asked for cup of hot water for to go they said I have to pay 1 $ just for regular hot water. It was actually first time when somebody charge for regular water not bottle. I'm pregnant and I was very upset and unpleasant. Terrible customer service. read more

Food is not that great and definitely not worth the price. I got the International panini. It does not come with lettuce or tomato. Meat is very salty but the mustard is delicious. The soup on the side is basically like eating straight dill leaves. Inedible really. Overall not worth $19 read more

Ive been all around town, looking for a friendly café with nice people. I was shook by surprise when we stopped upon StarNut. my daughter loves the smoothies, and the crepes they serve. The people are so nice, especially the cafe's dog who shows up every now and then. It's a small cafe, but it's beautiful. they have this nice aroma, making the place feel better even when you just walk in. read more

Look at your receipt carefully. They add charges and over charge. And when you inform the waitress about it, she does nothing about it. They also want to charge each person a ridiculous amount for the use of the umbrella outside for shade. read more

As much as I hate to be writing this, I felt like everyone should be aware of how unfriendly this place is for families. After picking up my toddler from school and noticing he hadn't touched his lunch, I had to pick up food from a fastfood place that he loves, but I don't. We walked into Starnut to have coffee with a couple of my friends, but as soon as they saw my toddler's food, the manager very very rudely asked me to leave. After explaining to him that it's just a small amount for my toddler, he let us stay but with a horrible attitude. I understand that outside food is not allowed in restaurants, but for a coffee shop to not accept food for a very picky and hungry toddler, I think this place could have made an exception. As much as the coffee is consistently good, I will not be returning and will not recommend this place to anyone. Being kind and empathetic should be the basis of customer service. read more

3.5 stars . Definitely a good neighborhood gem to meet up for coffee with nice area to sit out when the weather is nice or also meeting indoor. The food is average. Some of the items are a bit pricey like crepe which I won't recommended to get it as it doesn't worth the price. Their croissant was nice as they warm it up for you. read more

Expensive. Slow. Awful ventilation inside. Owner seems very cheap and not business savvy. Kid next to me brought a soup from a business next door over and joined his parents (who were dining from Starnut) and the owner came over and said he couldn't eat the soup bc it's not from Starnut. Lol. Maybe he doesn't want a wilted salad or over toasted bland sandwich. If you want mediocre coffee/food and want to sweat it out while smelling like burnt toast, this is the spot for you. ‍ read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for some lunch and overall it was great! We got the quiche, croque monsieur, international panini, and a pastry. The quiche was fantastic - so moist and delicious, and the buttery crust was to die for! Croque monsieur and panini were also good. The staff was super friendly and kind. Even though the space inside is small, there is outdoor seating that the staff delivers food to. The food was good, but I felt that it was somewhat overpriced. Plus, the side salads that came with some of the dishes (an additional $3-4 with the quiche!) was just leaves and dressing - nothing else in it. Overall, good food, nice people - I'm sad I didn't find this McLean gem earlier! read more

I stopped in to study for a test I am taking nearby. It has a large seating area with tables in the front and rear portion. Lots of outlets to sit near with my laptop and free WiFi. I got the caramel latte and Ny Bagel. The latte was prepared perfectly. Not to sweet with a pretty design on the top. I should have taken a picture. The NY bagel was delicious! I got it without red onions on an everything bagel. The salmon was fresh and the bagel was soft. I recommend checking this place out. It has parking and outdoor seating as well. read more

I've been coming to Star Nut once in a while for at least ten years now. It's a little pricey to be sure but the hometown atmosphere and yummy coffee make up for it in my opinion. This time that I went I had a great time. We got our orders in pretty quickly. I got a caramel latte and it was so delicious. It was creamy and frothy but not too sweet which was perfect. I've also had their macchiato, which is an Italian macchiato, not a Starbucks style. The espresso was really nice! This is a great place for a low-key, calm coffee break. read more

Cute place ruined by horrible management- avoid this place! I've never left a bad review at a restaurant but created a Yelp account *solely* to give Starnut one star after my experience today. I came with my wife, who ordered a (flavorless) tea. As we sat down, I grabbed her water bottle to fill it up. The manager rudely told me I couldn't do that because I didn't order anything. I told him my wife did and that we were together, but he didn't care. So I had her fill it up. A few minutes later, the same guy walked over and said I would have to leave if I didn't order something. I explained for the second time that my wife had ordered something, but he insisted I had to as well. At this point we left. This is NOT how you run a business! We will not be coming back, and looking at other reviews about their rude customer service, I don't recommend you go either. The place was empty for a reason. read more

This place has potential but our experience was really unfortunate. We walked in a full hour before closing and they basically could not make 75% of their menu items. The employee said the only items that could be served were cold sandwiches and salads. If you can't offer most of your menu, just close at 3pm instead of 4 because what's the point? The latte was mostly steamed milk and did not have a good coffee flavor. The sandwiches were overpriced items that could be made at home. For example, I had a lox and it was just smoked salmon between toast with nothing else on it. The other sandwich was roast beef and store-bought sliced cheese between a potato bun. I am sorry to say but this place is far from gourmet. I will give it another shot when breakfast items are available and because the staff were very kind. The menu needs some work, and the WHOLE MENU should be made available until you close like other establishments. read more

I just enjoyed an incredibly delicious banana crepe and latte at this cute and comfortable cafe' in McLean. Just moving here from Ohio, I've been on the search for a new local coffee hangout, and I've found my place! My husband had the Virginian crepe which was also very delicious. The toppings were applied carelessly -- lettuce scattered across the counter, and the oil and vinegar were poured so haphazardly that the wrapping paper was soaked through before they even got to cutting the sandwich. I'm not writing this to be harsh. I'm writing it because I've always admired this location and would hate to see it slip into the kind of mediocrity that has hurt other spots in the chain. I chair a local Wine Club and we have all of our events at Star Nut Gourmet at the location in the Regency Sport & Health Club. The owners and the staff do a terrific job of creating an inviting and comfortable place for us to enjoy our wine tastings. They really go out of their way to make sure that we have everything we need. They even offer a specialty dinner buffet with foods that are prepared to match our wines! Star Nut taking over this space at the Club has been a huge improvement. This was previously pretty much an empty space with a TV. Thanks to Star Nut, this is now a comfortable and inviting place for not just the Club members but for the residents of the adjoining Regency at McLean condo and all of the local residents and businesses. read more

We went for afternoon tea with another couple. The table setting was nice set in the corner at the back of the shop. They had a good selection of teas. We were served about a dozen petit fours, 4 big crusty croissants, a dozen petite sandwiches on bread which were no longer soft. We asked for jam/jelly for the croissants and were given several sachets of strawberry jellies -- the kinds you get at free breakfasts at hotel chains. A tiny jar of cream was served to be shared between the 4 of us. All in all it was a nice afternoon spent with friends but the tea service itself was meh. $30++ per person seemed rather high for what we got. read more

I simply do not understand the negative reviews - this is by far one of the best places around. The owners and staff are always very friendly and polite. The decor as well as the overall atmosphere is very European-chic and comfortable with great music. Food is delicious and the quality is great. Every order is consistent and the food is beautifully served by friendly and efficient staff. Check out the salads and sandwiches, and the great gelato. The coffee here is also better than anywhere else in McLean. They serve Lavazza - real Italian - brand coffee that surpasses anything you'll get at one of the local chain coffee houses. read more

We recently visited StarNut Gourmet and, unfortunately, had a disappointing experience. Despite ordering plenty of food, my friends and I were not allowed to sit in the cafe because we brought food from outside for our 3-year-old, who is a picky eater. The staff informed us that he's not considered a baby anymore, and it's against restaurant policy. The tone used was rough, and the overall experience was inconsiderate. While the coffee was good, the unwelcoming treatment overshadowed any positive aspects. Regrettably, I won't be returning due to this incident. read more

What a gem! This is the best thing to happen to McLean in the last 25 years. The owners are friendly and know everyone who stops in by name. The service and atmosphere rate 10 stars. Food (including the gelato and nuts) is of the highest quality and every order is beautifully served. The outdoor seating area is beautifully landscaped and provides a haven from the street noise. If you haven't been here yet, you need to make it a "must". read more

A charming place with wonderful crepes, chocolates, sandwiches, salads and coffee. You can also have a glass of wine or an exotic beer. You may sit outside and hear the nearby fountains and the birds in the trees, or inside with music and conversation. I always feel most welcome.....easy to come alone, or with family or with friends.... With the feel of a private club where you are a privileged member! Wonderful!!!! read more

This place is a gem in the center of McLean. Friendly and personable owners and staff, great coffee, snacks, salads and sandwiches - what more could you ask for? Also have gelato, a wide selection of premium nuts and great gifts. We use them to send all of our holiday and special occasion gift baskets. read more

Came here with my friends ; we were starving and saw it from across the street. We decided to stop in, and am so glad we did! The food was incredible and the owners friendly. It was a fun atmosphere and everything was reasonably priced. There were also a lot of options. Perfect for a quick&light lunch. read more

Do not waste your time or money! This place has terrible service. they are also prejudice against people with mentally illnesses! No one should have to experience any of the negativity these people display to their customer/employees.. Only giving one star because I have to give one! read more

Great place to grab a quick coffee and snack or to enjoy a delicious lunch. Great salads, platters and sandwiches. Try the European pastries with a Lavazza coffee and sit outside on the charming patio - you'll fell like you are sitting at a sidewalk cafe in Italy! read more

The service is fast and efficient, but still very friendly and helpful. The cappuccinos are my favorite! I have had lunch and breakfast there. Both were delicious. The breakfast came quickly despite a very busy morning. read more

Food is good but a little bit pricey. I love it has plenty of outdoor seatings. The coffee is really good. The service is really good. Definitely a good spot for dating. read more
