While I was on jury duty for a long jury trial I really enjoyed coming here for a quick pick me up. The staff were friendly and chill. The vanilla latte and the iced honey latte were both really good! I also had their cold brew (packaged in a bottle) poured into a to go cup to get through court security one day I would say this is not for the faint coffee drinkers. Even after adding cream and simple syrup I could only drink about a third of it before I had to stop to save my insides from churning. Whew wouldn't that be bad in court?!? Ha! Not for me but everything else was great. FYI they have a Yelp check in offer for a free doughnut with a coffee purchase. I got the cinnamon (cake) donut which was light and tasty. I believe all their donuts are vegan too which I couldn't tell at all. I would eat that again for sure. There's outside and indoor seating, and they also sell some merch if you want some. States Coffee clearly has a great reputation here in Martinez and I can certainly see why after our first visit. The line was quite long when we first arrived but was well worth the wait once we received our oat milk cappuccinos. But it isn't just wonderfully crafted coffees that they serve, they also offer cold brew, hot tea, and an array of baked goods like, granola, banana bread and vegan donuts. One of which we tried, a top notch Maple glazed. They also offer loaves for sale on the weekends! The atmosphere is quaint and eclectic with plenty of seating areas both inside and outside. And they also offer a wall filed with branded merchandise as well as local artisanal items. After our visit it is no wonder why States is apparently the place to be here in Martinez. Came upon this place because I needed coffee quick before dropping a friend off at the Amtrak station in the morning. Delicious bread! First of all, I love this place! Everyone is really nice and the atomosphere is very chill. I catch the Amtrak in Martinez and always get a coffee and snack here before the long ride. The honey latte is my favorite but all the drinks are great. This place has a very modern, hipster feel with local maker goods on the wall in the waiting area and great music playing. I love the outdoor seating and there is a lot of space inside, too if you want to stay and work. Located downtown you can sit outside and people watch on most days. Defiantly in my "Top five best coffee places". The cappuccinos are so smooth and velvety with a perfect coating of milk foam. The cold brew was also very smooth and chocolatey. The cold brew is bottled, which I enjoyed, as it kept the coffee very fresh! Both had a great kick of caffeine to get you through the day. This place was super cute! I loved the interior of the place. Something about those brick walls are so nice, ya know? I think the register was a tiny bit confusing to get to, as it was located in another room separate from the main seating area-but I also think that I entered in from the back of the cafe. To drink, I got a cap. The person behind the register who helped me was really nice. It was poured beautifully! The roast was a bit dark for me as I was hoping for something more citrusy and bright, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. I ended up checking-in and also got a free donut to boot!! I have heard more about states since I moved to Martinez and one Sunday the fiancée and I decided to check it out. Covid restrictions still in place there was a bit of a line (one order in at a time) but the line moved quickly. Coffee was amazing, even their fancier drinks and flavored lattes retained that delicious coffee taste and were flavorful without being too sticky sweet like some of the bigger coffee chains. The real score was the giant snicker-doodle we picked up! Perfect giant, chewy, cinnamon-y goodness you expect but don't find with most snicker-doodles. Their bread selection looked amazing but alas as it was a Sunday their bread of the day included raisins (which are a scourge on the culinary world in my opinion) so we passed. But we will definitely be back when they have some of their more savory non raisin options available. read more

Ever since I moved to Martinez, I've been checking this place out on Yelp and consistently failing to just go until today. Despite the rainy day/week, getting a drink at States was perfect. The rustic/contemporary look makes this place appealing to stay and just savor the moment of drinking a fresh cup of coffee. My wife and I ordered the honey latte and dark mocha. The dark mocha is truly a dark mocha and gives that cacao bitterness and chocolate sweetness taste, while the honey latte give you that honey sweetness in a latte that's not overbearing that I usually get from artificial sweeteners. Also, checking-in on Yelp gets you a free doughnut, which made the visit even better! We selected a maple flavored one and it was delicious! The barista I spoke to said that maple and blueberries are their most popular ones, so I will need to get the blueberry doughnut next. As far as I know, there's only metered street parking, but I did read in one of the reviews the store has its own free parking in the back. I just have to visit again to fully explore the place. There are a number of tables where one can study and just relax. Our visit at about 12 PM on Wednesday was really quiet, which should be expected. However, while staying in the place, we did see a lot of foot traffic in the front. read more

First time here. Impressed by the design of this trendy corner spot with two large rooms of intimate sitting areas and study tables. Love the cathedral ceilings, industrial interior, brick upon brick siding, and sleek black palette. Love the maple & blueberry cake donuts. Love their mochas and lattes. Lovely. Love the thoughtful metal and wood toys on bottom shelves for little customers. This coffee locale is obviously popular and a fave gathering spot for locals and visitors. There is considerable amount of chatter and coffee roasting sounds but somehow the sitting areas are strategically spaced that they keep one from hearing nearby conversations. To see this spot built off the side of Martinez's old-timey historic downtown is just SO refreshing. I've been following this shop for a while since its start, and it's so great to see what they're bringing to this side of the East Bay. Right off the bat, the entire brand and decor of States Coffee is GORGEOUS. The owners have found a beautiful red-brick building to match with an awesome USA map fixture. The space is very clean and minimalist, with lots of local handmade companies and brands in store. There isn't too much seating in the shop and it has more of a lounge kind of feel, though it makes for great photos and a quiet spot for early risers. The menu is VERY simple, but effective. The owners are actually really successful coffee connoisseurs from Portland's own coffee scene. The Cold Brew, which is roasted and prepared in-store, was surprisingly VERY easy to sip on--light, refreshing and not too bitter. (They also sell them in glass bottles to-go). Their Iced Latte is one of the SMOOTHEST lattes I have ever had in my life, as well. They also had some Affogatos during their launch party and those were yummy--rich espresso bathing around vanilla gelato. Beside the store, they plan to have a roasting room where people can come in and see their beans and roasts and see the whole process of coffee-making. I LOVE that idea and can't wait until they get that started. The staff is some of the most welcoming and friendly I've met. They approach their store with the local feel, proud to share their product with new customers and welcoming back old ones. They're also very proud to let peeking customers after-hours in to show them what they have and preview their local merch. (Oh, and they've also just released their new States shirts--show some pride and put Martinez on the map!) It's nice to know places like this are popping up around my hometown. This was my first visit to Downton Martinez and States Coffee. I ordered the mocha and it came out fast and hot. It's one size fits all and honestly you won't need a bigger cup because the small is plenty. I also ordered a maple donut. Unfortunately it was a cake donut, but it was better than other cake donuts I have previously tasted. I expected the sweetness of the donut to make room for the slight bitterness of the mocha, but I did need to add sugar to my coffee. (This is just a personal preference and not a slight against the flavor of the coffee.) I also purchased $10 of freshly roasted coffee beans (The 1849), which I cannot wait to grind and brew. Bae. Whenever I'm in the northeast bay visiting family, I come to States at least once a day. It's so damn cute and delicious. The coffee snob in me was SO happy when they opened. The staff is always friendly, and the speed of service is always on point as well. Although I wouldn't mind waiting a long ass time for my coffee there, because it's so cute and trendy. I always buy way too much stuff when I come here, but I never regret it. Their coffee is one of my absolute favorites, ever. Hands down. I always stock up on at least 4 bags whenever I'm in town (because I live in LA), and for a while my best friend and I were subscribed to their monthly online delivery service, but they got rid of it, sadly. Now they only do local delivery. But it just gives me more motivation to visit more often, and I'm okay with that. Can not WAIT until Farm & Flour opens. So stoked to finally get some legit coffee, and almost more importantly, OAT MILK in Benicia as well. (But seriously, where Oatly goes, I follow. Seriously. I love this place! It's super cute. My cousin is a regular here. I have to stop myself from singing the Cheers theme song whenever I meet him here for coffee. They offer almond milk for those who need to go dairy-free. And as for food, I thought they only had donuts, but they also offer oatmeal. I know they are more of a coffee shop rather than a breakfast spot, but I do wish they had something a little more protein-heavy and less carb-heavy to offer. I just make a habit of cooking eggs at home before I meet him here on a weekend morning. I'm a fan of their latte and mocha. Given the Pandemic we are currently enduring, all interior, and exterior, tables, and chairs, have been removed. This makes complete sense, due to social distancing requirements, especially with an uptick in COVID19 cases, due to the re-opening of businesses. I was pleased to see this business doing the right thing for their patrons' safety because it shows an ethical business manner, but also a pride in ownership, as well as that they are following Government orders, and CDC guidelines. In addition, the few employees working here also had their masks on as Governor Newsom, as of yesterday, mandated that ALL Californians MUST WEAR masks whenever they are outside of their home. In being a diabetic, with a compromised immune system, I valued seeing this business follow guidelines. THANK YOU!!! Back to the tables and chairs being absent, in all honesty, the interior space actually came alive as the building's architectural beauty shined. The brick walls, natural light from the windows, and the living plants -- these just presented a sense of calm that seemed to resonate. I opted for a light Iced Black Tea and an Almond Financier (it was nice that some of their food items were gluten free, as this almond treat was!). I used my credit card, but they also take cash. Those working today were immensely gracious and willing to serve, or answer questions. Additionally, there is plenty of street parking, as well as a parking lot directly next door. As Martinez is offering free street parking currently, probably because of this chaos we are all enduring, I find that generous of The City to do for those of us patronizing local businesses! Outside, States has a few black umbrellas, with an array of live greenery, potted in planters, as well as some climbing vines beginning to inch up the exterior brick. This added touch makes their outside area, that is presently "Standing Only," due to the pandemic, very pleasant to be in while sipping a beverage, or eating a sweet. I certainly will make sure to visit this local coffee spot more as I truly enjoyed coming here and felt safe, health wise, being inside for the short time. Damn that's one amazing honey latte! Made just perfectly and lightly sweetened as requested. I'd been eyeing the chocolate cookie and decided to go for it. It was devoured. It wasn't overdone and had the perfect cookie consistency in my opinion. I don't like raw undercooked cookies but this was well done and still maintained a soft crunchy texture and they probably use Guittard chocolate.
