Cinnamon bun and oat milk latte
    Kim S.

Went on a Sunday morning before the Martinez farmers market. They have a grab bag with five items for $10. It was fun sharing the surprise treats. Coffee is made to order and service is prompt. There's plenty of places to sit and enjoy your coffee.

Hot honey oat milk latte was delicious. The interior was really nice with plenty of seating both inside and outside, and the staff were super friendly. Not from the area but definitely a spot I will recommend.

Love this spot! Great coffee shop with tasty drinks. Everyone there is always friendly. They have free Wi-Fi and I usually come here once a week to do some office work and it's such a nice spot to get some work done. There are two rooms with plenty of seating and even some games to play if you need a relaxing break. Unfortunately they don't have a way to heat up their pastries but they are tasty just the same.

Best coffee shop in town. They roast their own beans in house. I came by for a cup of drip coffee it was excellent. They have a lot of seating and it's a good place to hang out or meet up.

This is the best cappuccino I've ever had in my entire life. Somebody recommended this little place. Absolutely awesome.

Love this place. I come to Martinez a few times a month for my nail appointment at Nova Lux Salon, vintage shopping at Faded Gold and antique shopping. Stopping by states for a yummy cappuccino or ginger matcha is a must. They have the most delicious pastries too. The banana bread is to die for. I stopped by late in the day Saturday and they had three pastries left. I got the blueberry something and it was incredible. I can't believe it was still there at 2 pm. The space is also really nice.

I'm Martinez local and have been going here for 10+ years. I usually get their lavender latte and it didn't disappoint. Came here on today on a weekday and parking meters were about $.50 an hour and took credit cards. Also, if you work remote, they have free WiFi and there is lots of space.

Update: owner was kind enough to message me about why they were closed in random days with no notice. Have been here multiple times since and they have been opened. MAJOR props on their DECAF espresso, seriously the best I've ever had. You can hardly taste the difference in flavor.

States Coffee in Martinez has a really amazing vibe thats perfect for mornings with friends or good coworking space with colleagues. The people at the cashier were really kind and helpful. They can be seeing bringing coffee directly to the customers so long as they have the number markers. I definitely would recommend this coffee shop for anyone. It's got an awesome atmosphere and great staff.

This is been my go to coffee house for many years now. The coffee and service is top tier and the location in downtown Martinez is perfect. The inside makes you feel like you are stepping back in time to when Martinez was a port town. Love the vibes and the mood. Worth a stop for sure.

First time here, the coffee shop has a large outdoor seating area as well as indoor. I tried their honey latte it was ok, but for my preference I would just keep it regular latte since I didn't really taste much difference with honey. The cashiers was friendly, and as far as pastries I wish they had some gluten free options. Over all it was good and might come back if I am in the area.

I think the Baristas need to drink some of their own coffee. Un-believable slow service. Expect 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee.

Ask the Community - States Coffee

    Is indoor siting available?

    Yes

Do they still have lavender coffee?

Do they only have one size for their drinks?

Our to go cups are 8 ounces for cappuccino and 12 ounces for drip coffee and lattes. Iced cups are 16 ounces to accomodate for the ice so that the milk ratio with espresso is 12 ounces just like our hot drinks. Thanks for asking!

What's your policy on service animals?

States is a food facility. For that reason per health code only service animals and law enforcement animals are allowed inside. Other pets are welcome on our outside patio. Thank you.

    Are there foods besides pastries?

Yes! They will have sandwiches from Farm & Flour as well as loaves of bread for sale. I believe the sandwiches go pretty fast so it can be hit or miss.

Is this place good for studying? I don't want to take up a seat for too long if this is more of a come and go type of place.

This is a great place for studying. There are 3 rooms attached to this business. The first room tends to be people just getting their drinks and families with small children. The second room is more for socializing. The third and newest room has…

How much is a bag of espresso beans?

Our 1849 Blend is $12 for one half pound bag and $20 for two.

    Does States serve decaf coffee?

We can make any espresso drink using our decaf beans but not drip coffee. They are also available to purchase for home brewing.

What types of non-dairy mills are offered for espresso drinks?

They offer a delicious Oat Milk as their stand alone non dairy option. I love it personally.

    Are the macaroons vegan?

Sorry, macaroons are not vegan. Donuts are vegan. Try them you'll love them

The woman helping customers was genuinely one of the kindest people I've met in a long time. She radiated joy, warmth, and kindness. After an incredibly long and exhausting day, that simple interaction completely changed my mood. The pastries absolutely lived up to the experience. I had the jalapeño cheese pastry, and it was outstanding. Even cold, it was flaky on the outside, soft on the inside, with just the right amount of spice. I caught myself wishing I'd bought another one before I even finished it. My family tried the apple pastry and the sugar donut, and both were equally impressed. The apple pastry was beautifully flaky--you could actually hear the crisp layers with every bite--and the sugar donut disappeared with zero complaints. Great pastries are one thing, but combining exceptional quality with genuinely kind people is what makes a place memorable. I actually considered turning around to buy more before heading home, but I was simply too exhausted after such a long day. That alone tells me everything I need to know. I'll gladly drive the extra distance to come back.

The swings, the colors, the vibes--pure spring-and-summer joy. It felt like happiness just wrapped me up in a sprinkle-covered hug. And let's talk about the treats--so many fun flavors, and every bite was a win. But the best part? There was a little boy having the time of his life in the ball pit, shouting, "This is the best place I've been all day! I wanna stay here forever!" And honestly? SAME. Now, I did have a moment--I'm a little short (and proud plus-size cutie), so I couldn't quite hop on the swing...it looked securely bolted, maybe just for the decor. I think they're fairly new, the inside is nicely decorated, there's even a ball pit kids can go in to play, with no shoes on of course, and it's pretty big with plenty of seating. You have to self-order your drinks, using a kiosk. The worker was on his phone so not much interaction there other than him making the drink once the order was received and handing it to you. They have plenty of options for flavors, I ended up trying the Dubai Chocolate flavor, I was a bit disappointed as the photo showed brown, green in the middle and brown at the bottom as the final result of the drink when made, but when I got my drink it just looked like chocolate milk and it tasted like chocolate milk as well. It was underwhelming. I also paid $3.99 extra for this teddy bear cup! I wish the cup was something they gave already without paying extra for it. Aside from drinks they also sell donuts of all flavors. I was tempted but did not buy one. Overall, I will be coming back, I'm curious to try other flavors and try a donut.
