We tries this spot recently and it has the coolest vibe. The menu is small, which I dont mind (better quality items in my mind). There is a multiple rooms to study or to relax and enjoy a your drink or baked goods. There is an awesome roasting room that you can view and outdoor seating. Usually get the Guatemalan or blend drip coffee which is a little more richer and creamier than the Ethiopian (more light and fruity) coffee comes in 1 standard size cup and costs $3.00. Love the fact their coffee has no after taste . They also serve lattes, mochas, etc.... they have donuts, granola+ yogurt, and milk, and fruit bars. Why does this place have to be so far! I'd be here everyday if it weren't for the 1.5 hour drive up. The coffee is great, the ambiance is great, and the donuts are so yums. Plenty of space to find seating and it's still not too loud. Probably because the ceilings are so high! This is definitely me new favorite coffeeshop! I love checking out new coffeeshops in San Francisco but I'm so happy to find one like this out in the East Bay, closet to where I live. It's rare gem. I actually found this coffeeshop via Instagram just by searching "coffee" nearby and their Instagram profile listed and I instantly knew I wanted to try it out. On my first visit I ordered the dark mocha and the chocolate donut (free with first check in here on Yelp)! This definitely isn't a super sweet mocha which is good, what I'd hope for. Looking forward to trying the honey latte next time and maybe even with oat milk. My favorite part about this place are the vibes of this location. It's huge, lots of room to hang out with a laptop if you want (free WiFi). The interiors are beautiful with brick walls, the coolest signage, and artisanal design. They even have their own merch! It's a little pricey but to be excoriated for a local, authentic brand. You can buy their house made syrups and cold brew. On my list to get next time! I appreciate all the little details including the branded boards they bring out donuts on and the logo on the mugs. (As a designer I geek out on this sort of thing and often look for it at new coffeeshops). It's extremely quiet which I appreciate. There's even outdoor seating too in case you want some sunshine while you sip. I'm not too familiar with Martinez but this location has a small town feeling to it. Not too busy, a nice place to relax with your coffee. Even on a weekend it wasn't too busy. If you enter from the front it can be a little confusing. Just keep walking through the door through a "roastery" room to order your coffee. From what I could tell on my first visit, it's metered street parking. So depending on the day/time it may or may not be tough to find. I came on a Saturday afternoon and was lucky to get a spot literally in front of the side entrance. The hidden gem of Martinez! The coffee here is great and I love that you get a free donut if you check in on Yelp. My favorite combo is a black coffee with a blueberry vegan donut. Cold brew is also good and very strong. Prices are much more reasonable than a lot of cafes in Walnut Creek or Berkeley. The aesthetic of the cafe is also right up my alley :) In terms of parking, there's a small lot on both sides of the street. Wow! What a great little coffee shop. I'm sad that my first visit was just a few days ago because I've been missing out this entire time. States is located in downtown Martinez, which in itself has a cute & cozy charm to it. Parking is free on the weekends, but otherwise there is street parking you can pay via parking meter. They offer your basic coffee options along with some tasty pastries. I opted for a cappuccino ($3.75) which I really enjoyed - smooth and creamy! I also made sure to check-in on Yelp to get a free donut! What really brought my review to 5-stars was the overall aesthetic of States. Immediately upon entering you're welcomed with warm natural light and large wooden tables. I love the succulents they have one the tables and the wall decor they have throughout the shop. The interior design is really well done! They also offer outdoor patio seating. States is one of the best coffee shops I've been to in the bay area, and a great place to study or get some work done. I love this place! It's so hip and aesthetically pleasing, it makes me feel some type of way. There is plenty of space with many tables and some outlets. There are a lot of windows that allows a lot of natural light come in, which I always appreciate when I am staring at my laptop all day working. The drinks are delicious, I've gotten both the coffees and the Italian sodas and they're great. They also use compostable paper straws now so that's always a plus! The only thing that deters me from coming here all the time is the WiFi! I always have a hard time connecting to the WiFi and always end up using my phone to hot spot, so it's hard for me to stay for as long as I like. read more

No other mocha I've had , has had the perfect balance . The Maple Donut was amazing , it was moist but not crumbly . I would def order it again ! It's hard to know what to add to the glowing reviews of states. Basically, it earns all five stars. The ambiance is clean, minimalist, modern, with impeccable styling. If you need ideas on how to decorate for industrial, modern minimalist, then you should give States a visit. Although it's pricey and high quality, there's no pretension in the air. The coffee is delicious and made to order. I appreciate the cold brew and it comes in a fun classy bottle. The only diary alternative they have is oat milk and that would be my one critique. It doesn't sit well with my food allergies, even though they said it was gluten free. The taste is amazing however so if you can tolerate the oat milk, it's worth a try. I have seen people look at their watches and walk back to their car and leave. Alright, this place has the best coffee in Contra Costa, hands down. If you're looking for good coffee and you have time to burn this place is it. Also the bread is amazing and totally worth the price. Here's the thing, I don't know what happened in the last six months, but it has become VERY slow. I used to be a regular and would pop in multiple times a week for a coffee, but I just don't have time to burn 30 minutes during the week for a cup of coffee. More than once I have started waiting in line and left the line because of how long it was taking. It used to just be this way on the weekends, now it's like that every day. On Sunday during the farmer's market... plan for 45 minutes to an hour to get a coffee. I love the coffee. It's too bad that I basically don't get it anymore because of the wait. Still, if you have time. Definitely worth it to stop by. On another note, earlier this year they changed something and have more variety of baked goods to select from, but the old cookies were better. I nominate States Coffee as the best coffee shop in the Bay Area hands-down! My dad and I come here too often in the best way. We thoroughly enjoy our visits and coffee to go along with it every time. The cafe is spacious and aesthetically pleasing to study or hang out in, the staff are very friendly, and the quality of their coffee remains consistent. Its minimalist, industrial vibe distinguishes states and makes you feel like you're apart of a unique, neighborhood coffee house. This place literally is ahead of the curve when it comes to coffee trends- they had Oat Milk back in 2017! I would always come here exclusively for coffee with it before it became so popular. They bottle their cold brew (which is my favorite) and you really can tell that it was freshly and made with quality and care. I admire State for creating a variety of spaces for customers to enjoy and for maintaining their standards for good coffee and company.
