This is our favorite spot. We go as often as possible. The atmosphere is fun and busy. It's always easy to get a drink even when the place is packed. The beer list never disappoints and the cocktails are delicious. Our favorite thing about The Tap Room is the staff which is super friendly. The menu changes from time to time but there are staples which never disappoint like the Alabama dry rub wings, dandan noodles, and the pulled pork sandwich (& a few more as well). There's always creative specials to choose from which are usually really tasty. The new Caesar salad is awesome (hope it becomes a mainstay). read more

ST, may i make a suggestion? While your beer and wine list are good, you are under performing with the whiskey aspect of your menu. It's not enough to offer only neat or with club soda. A good selection of whiskey deserves at least a few cocktails on the menu. May i suggest a whiskey sour, Manhattan, and old fashioned? Come on guys - you've helped pull up the downtown Downingtown restaurant scene by your bootstraps. Had another amazing experience at Station Taproom this morning with the husband. We waited outside withal few other people for the doors to open promptly at 11am. I ordered the spicy Bloody Mary because it's just the best! We were so hungry that we just over-ordered but who could resist with so many delicious items on the menu plus some specials to throw in a curve ball. We ordered the habanero and tomato gazpacho, shishito pepper bar snacks, carrot cake French toast (yes, you heard me right) and cream chipped beef. Everything was so good, I wish that getting full wasn't a thing cause I would have loved to kept on eating. The beer menu never disappoints with lots of local brews and some from afar to choose from. The servers are always friendly and they are always down to business in the kitchen. I'm so lucky that we have this local gem so close to us. read more

I used to love this place but I just got my usual order shrimp and grits and red Thai curry it was so salty I couldn't even eat. I hate writing reviews like this but really used to eat here religiously but I don't think I will return again. The shrimp and grits are supposed to be thick not soupy definitely not what it used be. We've been there during the old normal and it was good. Tried it 2 weeks in a row on Thursdays for takeout recently during COVID. First time we both ordered the drunken noodles. The dish was so over salted that neither of us could finish it. Mine was with tenderloin and it was tough like under-cooked stew meat. Second time my wife got the Lobster roll (which she liked) and I got the Kimchi Brisket Panini. The panini was so salty that again I couldn't finish it. We both also got a Greek salad which was delicious. Wish they'd back off the salt. Clearly they aren't tasting what they are cooking. We'll continue visiting them in hopes that they get it right. The food is great, but these two times it was egregiously over salted. read more

Revising the rating from 4 to 3 stars. Went in today (5/21/22) after being away for over a year and a half. Had a bad late lunch. Maybe I'm just very sensitive to salt? I don't know. Don't take my word for it, but at least be forewarned. We got the strawberry salad, truffle fries, and Brussel sprouts to start. All really good, but we both noticed how the salad was unevenly salted. I got one forkful which had a lot of it. No biggie. I got a Smashburger as my main, and the level of salt was off the charts. I don't know if they salt the meat or the sauces or both. I had to send it back & got the pulled pork instead. It was ALSO a salt lick - maybe even worse than the burger. I took it home because I can doctor the sauce it to make it edible. Felt bad for the server. My wife is vegetarian so couldn't taste it to confirm. Like I said, maybe my taste buds are off, so don't take it as gospel. read more

Famiky get together for brunch... busy Sunday, so service was slow, up friendly and efficient. Eggs Benedict were cold (but the kitchen juggled to get 8 meals out together. Cheese steak omelette is a winner! I ordered w fresh fruit instead of potato's and they were succulent chunks of fresh berries and melon. Great Coffee w small milk bottles instead of typical plastic dairy containers is a nice touch. Water carafes on table encourage us to sip and talk. One of my favorite places to eat in Downingtown. The brussel sprouts are a favorite of mine. Almost all of their food options are delicious (except for the ramen). The bar stays pretty busy and there is a parking lot that is convenient adjacent to the building. The fries are phenomenal and the beef tenderloin is so tender. Went there on Tuesday for dinner before a movie. The food took a long time. The mussels appetizer gave both myself and my husband food poisoning. Some of the mussels shells were not fully open and hence not fully cooked. I was throwing up in the middle of the night. Do not go here. The service was just ok. Great location, across the street from the train station. Not much room in the parking lot, but I was lucky to find street parking. Walking in, the dining area is clean. The place is small, but the number of tables is low, so it didn't get too loud on a recent Monday night. But, it was Monday. I started with a Mexican vegetable soup. It was flavorful without being too spicy, and looking at it, it appeared homemade. For my entree, tried the Mac and cheese with hot Chicken. The chicken was almost like small pieces of boneless chicken fingers, coated in hot sauce, not unlike "boneless buffalo wings" that some places have, but smaller, almost nugget sized, and mixed in with the mac and cheese. They came together nicely. Despite all the mentions of their delicious poutine, I did not try it. My companion had A Burger, medium well, which she said was very tasty. The servers were friendly, the food was prepared quickly but was also well-executed. I'm not in downtown Downingtown very much, but I would consider returning if I wanted a casual pub dinner in the area. read more

Highly recommend this little gem. We stopped in here after a soccer game and being from out of state, we took a chance. Very glad we did. The food and service were outstanding. We had the brussel sprouts to start which were crispy and outstanding. Main courses were just as good. The tuna poke bowl had more tuna than I have ever seen in a poke bowl anywhere. My son had the hot chicken mac and cheese which he loved. My smoked brisket sandwich was great. Service was outstanding. Just couldn't be happier with the whole experience. This is such a great place to go to in Downingtown. I've been here for dinner several times. They have a great beer selection on tap and I love sampling some of their varieties. My all time favorite dish is the sweet potato gnocchi but I've enjoyed the curry and fish tacos. I like that the menu changes based on the seasons. Everything is very flavorful. My complaint is that there really is no place to wait for your table. It's very cramped inside and very loud and hard to hear. So this place apparently JUST opened up and their website isn't even functional yet, but I am loving what they are doing here. The focus is on awesome beer, locally sourced food/ingredients (some of their produce is from Talulah's market in Kennett Square), and great service - all in a clean and spacious decor with a cool open kitchen concept. I would give this place 2 different ratings if I could. I'd say that the BEER/drink menu deserves 5, or at least 4 stars. The food is probably at a 3 or 3.5 star rating, currently, but I have faith that it would go up soon. It has only been open just a short while, after all. Awesomely, they were heavy on the Ales and IPAs here, but had plenty of bottled options and of course, wine as well. AND you can get a flight of four 5.5oz beers for $7. Not bad, right? WHAT WE ATE *Cuban Sandwich Unquestionably my favorite dish that we ate at Station Taproom. It was just a really great blend of spicy, salty, rich flavors and the bread was just crunch toasted enough to give it the textures it needed. BTW, the service here was so awesome. Since there were 3 of us dining, I asked him to cut the cuban sandwich into 3 pieces for us. Not only did he do this, but he actually plated all 3 pieces separate so we could each have our own plate and fries. *OMG, the FRIES. The fries here were AMAZING. Hand-cut fries in the "english chip-style" where they were thick and super crispy on all the edges, but still soft on the inside. Totally a winner. Several of our dishes came with fries and we worried that there'd be much leftover, but seriously - we ate every single one off of each plate. Ridiculous feat. *Chicken Wings: thai curry sauce + bleu cheese Awesome wings. Here again, was another example of service that goes above and beyond - the owner let me sample the wing sauce base before we ordered! I really wanted to try the wings, but was hesitating because I don't usually like thai curry sauces (it's the coconut milk), so he brought us a cup of the sauce and let us try it out first. It was pretty incredible so we ordered the wings and devoured them. In terms of quantity, you don't get too many - I think it came with 6 wings? I'd be hard pressed to make this a meal by itself. Still, it's really tasty and so worth ordering as a starter. *Pulled Pork sandwich, Short Rib Eggroll, Mac'n Cheese These were other plates we had that were just okay. The pulled pork is interesting because they do 2 different versions (vinegar-style and thicker ketchup-base style), but it takes away from the meat i think; it seemed like the meat never had a chance to soak up the sauce. The short rib eggroll, while interesting in concept (it has collard greens stuffed in it) is a bit greasy in execution so while I enjoyed it, I doubt I'd order it again. I give the mac'n cheese mad props for being UNIQUE. It has sundried tomatoes, olives, greens etc all mixed throughout, but I thought the cheese flavor was too slight. If you order this, definitely make sure you take each bite with a piece of olive and/or tomato; it adds a lot to the dish. LOVE station taproom for doing an awesome thing by giving Downingtown a craft beer bar. The owner seemed dedicated and super hospitable. GET THE FRIES. read more

Only 3 days old, the Station Taproom looks like it has the potential to stick around and possibly be the new better (see Firecreek) torch bearer for a Downingtown restaurant Rennaissance. While I only sampled their small dishes (pulled pork sliders, curry chicken wings and shrimp skewers - all delicious), their menu looks powerful tasty and varied: lamb and beef burgers, fish & chips, mussels, big salads. They source a lot of their ingredients (including meats) locally. And now what really brought me to the Station Taproom's door (and had me lurking on their Facebook page all winter) was the promised beer selection. Twelve beers on tap and only two of them from local neighbor Victory (Prima Pils, Donnybook Stout). The fact that Victory's flagship Hop Devil was only available in bottles seemed to me to be a tip of the cap to Victory. Other tap beers (from memory) were Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald, Bear Republic's Racer 5, Founder's Pale Ale, a couple of Stoudts, a Troegs and others. Not a major brewer in sight, not a poorly spelled light beer in reach. When one of my friends asked about filling a growler the bartender said, "Not yet, but we'll get there." Overall, they did a great job on rehabbing the building and the interior design. Only one TV and music barely audible above the din of customers and open kitchen. They might want to tweak the exhaust system as at times the room seemed to be a little overwhelmed by grill smoke. It certainly smelled good but I heard a few people comment that it was a bit much. I may come off sounding like a bit of a fanboy here but I've been waiting a long time for something like this to come closer to home. Welcome, Station Taproom, long may you run. read more

3.5 stars. This was my first visit to Station Taproom for something other than libations! This place is consistently full of patrons so the decision to eat at the senior citizen time of 5:30 was impeccable. My friend and I were seated immediately and lucky for us, happy hour was in effect. $3 Allagash? don't mind if I do. Wine was $1 off so my friend enjoyed two glasses of chard for $18...high if you ask me. We started out with the jalapeño cheese dip. ($10) This was scrumptious. Served with crostini, I requested raw veggies. Accommodating, our server brought out a plate of celery sticks and bam just like that we devoured the nutritious snack! We both were eyeballing the Thai red curry so we ordered one with Tofu and one with Chicken. ($15) To say the least the flavor was on point. Veggies were abundant and the tofu was firm and consumed by curry goodness. I wish the rice was served separately because it did its thing, sucking up a good portion of the sauce. The menu listed all veggies included in the curry...onions weren't listed. Magically, lots of onions appeared in my friends bowl and she h-a-t-e-s them. Obviously, not a big deal, but she still had to dissect the dish, removing each one to appease her palate. Regardless, the menu should mention onions. Dessert...they were out of anything with chocolate...saddest news ever. We tried the strawberry rhubarb cobbler. Nothing to write home about. Flavor was flat yet overwhelmingly sweet if that makes sense! Anywho, we barely ate any. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout. I had the pulled pork and truffle fries. Both were extremely delicious. The truffle fries lived up to the hype. They explode with flavor in your mouth. They make them with truffle salt, not oil. So the flavor really opens up on the palette. We came during Happy Hour so the pulled pork was only $5. A really good deal for a good pulled pork sandwich. Not great, but good. Unfortunately, both times I've gone the service was very slow to seat us and they're definitely understaffed. Friendly, but not able to provide exceptional service. read more

I studied up before I went for dinner last night, and it looked like I needed to try the Thai Red Curry. They had a few intriguing specials last night, but I ended up getting the curry with tofu. It was delicious. All of the flavors melted together really well in this dish. The naan bread was a nice little touch to soak up some of the extra sauce. It consisted of nice, equal proportions of veggies, rice and tofu. I think the sauce would be even better if it was thickened up a little bit, but it was pretty tasty. My friend got the turkey panini with pesto and we think Swiss cheese. That was also delicious and was served with some crispy fries. Our waitress was pleasant, and they had some wonderful beer options on tap. Definitely get ready for a louder environment, but I'm sure you'll enjoy this gastropub! read more

First time at Station Taproom, but definitely not the last. First, the environment: Cozy, clean, a nice little space. It feels inviting. Next, the service: it couldn't have been better! (Thanks Chris! You really added to the great experience here!) And... the food and drink: this really sets Station Taproom apart. The tap list is very nice, with brews for all. A nice selection of ciders, and a nice gluten-free pilsner by the bottle. I didn't jump in to the whisk(e)y offerings, but I would have loved to. The menu isn't huge, so the kitchen can focus on what is there. And, wow, do they ever! We started with carrot and ginger soup, and it was the best I've ever had. Incredibly well balanced, letting all the ingredients sing their parts. My lovely dinner companion had the shrimp and grits, and testified to its yumminess. I had a taste of the sauce, and it was smokey goodness. I opted for the drunken noodles, and was eminently satisfied.
