He favors Born and Raised so we wanted to give him some competition. Dylan our server for the night was up for the challenge. Absolutely stellar service from him from beginning to end. He was quite funny and just made for a memorable evening. He recommended an off the menu New York strip. I don't even know how but this was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Perfectly charred but the buttery, salty flavor was perfect! Had mine medium rare and my husband's was rare plus. My brother ordered the 45 dry aged ribeye and he agreed my cut was superior. The mushrooms were a nice accompaniment. The desserts sealed the deal. The butter cake with vanilla ice cream was the best! Followed by the key lime pie and peanut butter tort. Amazing steakhouse in Del Mar! Located in the Del Mar Highlands shopping center. There is plenty of parking but they have valet services too. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous! Dimly lit, romantic, great for special occasions & large parties. The restaurant layout is kind of a maze & the walkways are narrow, but we got a nice tour where we saw displays of their desserts, seafood & wine selection. Our server was lovely! He was so friendly, gave fantastic recommendations & checked in on us frequently. All the workers we encountered were nice & professional. Stone Fruit Martini: One of the best martinis I have ever had! Sweet & refreshing, all the ingredients meshed perfectly. & they gave the shaker too so I was able to enjoy another glass! Bread: Complimentary. Buttery, flaky. Crispy Shrimp: Super flavorful, sweet & slightly spicy. It was crisped perfectly too. Filet Mignon: Sautéed Bleu Cheese. Incredibly tender & juicy. Ambiance - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Food - 5/5 Upscale and elegant ambiance. Has that modern vibe to it. We came on a Wednesday night; made a reservation but can probably walk in and dine at the bar for a party of 3. The complimentary bread is damn good. To me, it's like a buttery croissant! We ordered the recommended Gold Tier NY Strip, which was off the menu as well as the 45 day dry aged bone-in rib eye. Gold Tier NY STRIP was like butter. It did not disappoint. 45 day dry aged ribe eye was very good as well. However, the Gold Tier NY was better IMO. Drinks were as expected for this tier of fine dining. Desserts were great. The corn creme brulee was a bit of a let down, good but not ~$18 corn magical. The praline sweet potato was good, but I expected a bit more punch of flavor. The mash were tasty mash, the asparagus was perfect, and the au gratin was excellent!! I'd definitely get the au gratin, and possibly the sweet potato or asparagus. Just a heads up, if you're in a group, the server should ask if you're sharing sides. When your food arrives, the servers will dish out the sides to each diner. We celebrated my birthday at Steak 48 in Del Mar and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. We had the NY Strip, Filet, and Scallops for our main course, all cooked perfectly. Before that, we started with the Hamachi Crudo and Wedge Salad, both excellent choices. To top it off, they surprised us with an entire block of decadent chocolate mousse cake to take home. We had a private enclosed table right by the kitchen, which gave us a front-row view of the energy and precision of the staff. We paired everything with an outstanding California Pinot Noir that tied the whole evening together. The ambiance was second to none, modern, intimate, and vibrant without being too loud. Service was top-notch, though admittedly a bit pushy to get our order in early, but after that, it was flawless. What really stood out was that they called the next day to make sure we had a great experience. Who does that anymore? Highly recommend for any special occasion. My hubby and I (and even my 5 year old daughter lol) love fine dining, especially when we're on vacation. We decided to do a mini get away since my daughter was on spring break and took her to Legoland. I already had my heart set on eating at a nice restaurant after our day was over and after getting all cleaned up, I decided ton Steak 48. We booked a reservation and were immediately seated right away. Our server, Christina, acknowledged us immediately and walked us through the menu. She was very professional, friendly, and had great energy, plus always a smile on her face. The best part about her was that she was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. To start off with, we were brought out their delicious bread that looked like cinnamon rolls and had some type of glaze on top of them. My hubby and 5 year old daughter gobbled those things like there was no tomorrow lol. As an appetizer, my hubby and I split the roasted beets salad. The beets tasted very fresh (and note that my hubby doesn't like beets unless they taste of food quality) and the dressing that's on there was so good. For our main meal, my hubby ordered the bone-in rib eye and I ordered the 45 day aged bone-in rib eye. Since the portion of the steaks were huge, I decided it would be best to share with my daughter. As our sides, she wanted the boursin mac and cheese (because what kid doesn't love mac and cheese lol), chef Nicolas's potato au gratin, and corn creme brulee. Normally, at a steak house, my go to is usually creamed spinach but after talking with Christina, she said that they're known for their potato au gratin and corn creme brulee, so I'm glad we made the right choice. When we received our steaks which were medium rare, they were cooked to perfection. Nice and pink on the inside, but cooked well on the outside. Since the plates were hot when receiving our plate, Our sides also came out nice and hot. I can't even decided which side dish I liked best because they were ALL so delicious. My mouth is watering as I'm thinking about their food right now lol. During half way through our meal, the manager named Blaze, came by our table and checked in on us. We communicated to him how lovely the restaurant was, professionalism of the staff, the taste of the food came out, and how LA restaurants need to learn to set the bar and could learn a thing or two from Steak 48. We ended off the night by ordering desserts. My daughter ordered chocolate gelato, hubby ordered butter cake, and I ordered some chocolate mousse dessert that came in a ferrero roucher chocolate covered ball, which by the way, presentation was excellent! Overall, we had a fantastic experience and will be returning here again to eat the next time we visit San Diego. An Incredibly remarkable evening was had at Steak 48 Del Mar! Last night, I took my mom for her birthday dinner, and from the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by the awesome hosts, service staff, and a wall of wine and knives! (Mom was already stoked) A host walked us through the different rooms and seating spaces, also giving us a view into the cold stations, seafood, and prep areas of the kitchens! We were sat in the Del Mar room, with a great view of the bar, and other patrons. Marshall was our server and damn did he deliver! His knowledge and guidance of the menus was so spot on, he convinced my mom to order the key lime pie in under 10 seconds! That being said, Marshall's personality and service truly won us over. The rest of the service staff were also fantastic, friendly and on their game. Mom ordered her Bone in Rib eye, it came out PERFECTLY medium, rich red center, divine! Marshall suaded me into the Branzino special, covered in warm spices and butter, lemon OMG. The lightly seared scallops dolloped with caviar were the perfect touch. We just celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary for dinner and it also was our first time dining at S48. Our experience could not have been better! We had the most amazing experience and were treated so well starting with our booth we were given. It was located deep within the restaurant where their 2nd bar is. We were greeted with a had written congratulatory card signed by Kris, the GM of S48. Our server Conner took outstanding care of us the entire night, as did the others who assisted with our dinner service (Darren & Derek). We loved their house bread which was hot off the oven and soo good! We followed that with their delicious Hamachi Yellowtail appetizer, before sharing their 18oz bone-in filet mignon with truffle butter, sautéed mushrooms, and shells (macaroni) & cheese. Everything was cooked to our liking and it was all mouth watering good! My wife had their walnut cocktail followed by a dark rye Basil Hayden, while I opted for a non-alcoholic Athletic "upside down" beer. We were greeted with smiling faces as we entered the restaurant. Our server Trevor was so attentive, helpful and patient. I appreciated how thorough he was as he guided us through the menu. The timing of the food was great, giving us enough time to eat our bread, starters and entrees before dessert. I loved that Trevor gave me a card from the general manager thanking us for spending my birthday there. This felt very sweet and considerate. It was our first time here because we have heard great things! The parking lot is big and you'll be able to find parking anywhere. We walked in and had rsvp. We still had to wait a couple minutes to be seated. What I really didn't like was there was not an area to wait, while we wait to be seated(does that make sense lol). So people kept walking by us and we were like right in front of the doorway. Just felt like you were standing in everyone's way. We were seated and I noticed the lights are really dim. Also we can talk about how big the menus are! It like takes up the whole table. And that's pretty big especially if you're with a group of people. Hands down the absolute best dining experience we have ever had! From the moment you walk in every moment here is special. We were a party of 6 celebrating our anniversaries. We arrived a bit early for our reservation but we were seated right away. We all received a card from the manager for our anniversary which was such a nice personal touch! Service was not great. Server didn't offer specials and made it seem like it was a pain for her to tell them to us. She tried to take away our menus and leave just one even though I said no, please let us keep them. We hadn't even ordered yet. Just very odd service tonight, I couldn't figure out if she was new or training, but I didn't enjoy our time due to this. She messed up my espresso martini order and said it was the bartender's fault. Not sure what happened with that, and it was awkward. Food was always good. Pork Bellly, and the King Crab tomato app. We ordered the tomahawk pork chop, and the filet mignon and the Superfood salad which had too much balsamic glaze on it. The bread skillet was delicious as always. We had the creamed spinach and the AuGratin potatoes which was super delish. For dessert we had the Warm Vanilla Carmel Cake which was soooo delish with a mountain of whipped cream, and gelato on top of it OMG. Bathroom was so dirty, had urine all over the seat. We were seated in a lovely area with coffered ceilings, dim lighting and a gorgeous wine wall. Our server, Stephanie brought out a cast iron skillet with croissant bread. We ordered the pork belly starter, a wedge salad to split, a bone-in ribeye for my husband, a sea bass for myself and whipped potatoes and bruleed cream corn. The pork belly came out pretty quickly. It was perfectly cooked and rested on a bed of sautéed spinach with a slightly spicy sweet chile sauce. This may have been the best starter I've had anywhere. Absolute perfection. Our wedge salad came out next and I loved the pork lardon with a sort of blue cheese vinaigrette for the dressing. Really good! Our entrees and sides were served next. My husband's steak came out sizzling. Our sides were nice and hot as well. My fish was cooked perfectly. My husband started eating his steak and said it was very good. We eat out often at steak houses so I was happy to hear he was enjoying it! The whipped potatoes were silky smooth and the bruleed creamed corn was outstanding!! My fish had quite a strong fishy taste and I was having difficulty eating it. I should have spoken up about it early on in the meal. That does not take away from our experience. Everything was so well prepared and Stephanie was a great server. The ambiance is so nice with a mix of soft rock playing at a good level. Almost too loud but not quite. We had a wonderful time and I cannot wait to visit again! Our anniversary is in February so I'm lobbying for a repeat visit then! My husband ate his leftover steak the next day and said that it was the best steak he's ever had. High praise!! read more

Update 07/2025 Was contacted by the MGMT Team w/Steak 48. After a lengthy conversation, actually 2. I truly see that they're invested in making their guest feel welcomed. Since the food itself was 5 already. Had to update. I am moving shortly and plan on celebrating with a lovely dinner. Guess where I will be going? If you're looking for a meal that will be hard to compete with, service that will be above and beyond, just to feed into your primal hunger for a steak? We've dined at Steak 48 several times, but this visit truly stood out thanks to Brian Meyers. He took incredible care of us from start to finish--patient, attentive, and genuinely friendly. He made us laugh throughout the night and created such a fun, welcoming experience. Brian was especially helpful when it came to choosing wine--very knowledgeable and guided us to a perfect selection. His service really elevated the entire evening. We even made sure to tell manager Justin that Brian deserves high marks for how well he treated us. As always, the food was phenomenal. The dry-aged ribeye was cooked perfectly, and we highly recommend the crispy shrimp and the corn crème brûlée. The crab enhancement was also superb, and the bread remains one of our favorite parts of the meal. We'll definitely be coming back--and we'll be asking for Brian every time! read more

Steak 48 has always been one of my favorite restaurants, so this visit was especially disappointing. For a nearly $750 dinner (with no alcohol), I expected a much better experience. The seafood was excellent -- the hamachi and oysters were amazing -- and the service overall was great. Unfortunately, the main items were a major letdown. The $300 steak was ordered medium and charred, but it was still undercooked in the middle and not enjoyable. The crab legs were also disappointing. I asked for the meat to be removed from the shell, but it came back broken into small pieces with shell/cartilage throughout, making the presentation and eating experience very poor. To their credit, they removed the crab from the bill, but the steak was also not up to the standard I expect from Steak 48. For the price point and reputation, I left feeling disappointed and overcharged. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because this was not the experience I expected from a restaurant I usually enjoy. read more

The best things about this place: the food and the service. The worst part is how hugely popular it is. We had to park in the lot across the shopping mall. Next time, I'll valet. It's super trendy, smells like new money, and not the vibe for everyone. It feels loud, cramped and dark at first, but we got a quiet table in the back of the restaurant. We ordered steak of course: filets, and too many sides. The potatoes and corn are a must, though! I'd skip the added crab on your steak because it's about a tablespoon of crab for $48? Pass next time. Cocktails were perfection! My martini was perfectly chilled. The old fashioned was perfection as well. If you have a special occasion or money to burn, this is your place for steak. read more
