Been in the drive through line for 30 minutes and still have not made it to the window to pick up our food.

Today I visited steak n shake for the first time in a long time at 10:30 PM. It took one of the waitstaff five minutes to seat me although there was nobody in line in front of me. There were lots of people waiting for takeout but only half of the tables were full. Once I was seated it took them another 10 minutes to come and take my order. Nothing to drink, and nobody even looking my way. The manager was very busy at the register handling the large pick up orders. Once I was delivered my food, which was very tasty, they never came back to refill my ice tea. Do not go to this steak and shake if you were looking for excellent service. When it was my turn to pay the bill at the register, the manager asked how I was doing tonight and I told him that nobody ever refilled my ice tea. He immediately without blinking and ran to get me another ice tea in a to-go cup. The only reason why I gave this burger joint a 3 star rating was due to the friendliness of the manager and the flavor of the burger. The service would've been a zero. It's still great place to go for a quick bite to eat in the middle of the night, they are open 24 hours a day seven days a week. My meal cost less than seven dollars, not a bad deal. read more

Had late lunch today with my grandson. I have been going to this location for several years and the service is usually hit or miss. However today was a total surprise. Was seated almost immediately, the food came out within 15 minutes ... and it was hot. Kudos to the servers and especially the kitchen staff. read more

I stood in the "pls wait to be seated" sign for 5 mins while the waitresses pass by me without paying any attention, when I finally got to order, it took them 15mins. Food is ok, I will never go back. read more

I always loved this place but this particular one needs to reassess their servers...I took someone who had never been there before and had the worst service ever...food that had been sitting in the window for 15 minutes was attempted to be served to us...then the table next to us was filthy....when someone was seated there..the portion of the table that was dirty was shoved over closer to us and was never cleaned...I will never go to this location again, the managers were very nice about it...but didn't have anything done about it. read more

I love their fries and shakes but this place could be empty and I'll still wait 20+ minutes for food regardless of sit down, drive through, or to go. Servers are friendly enough when they do get to you, it just might take a year for one to get to you. read more

This place needs a good manager urgently. The food is good but you have to wait more than 25' to somebody take your order and wait for an hour until the food arrives to your table. Some waitress have a bad attitude, others only are wasting her time instead clean the tables. read more

Come here on a weekly basis for over 5 years now and never once had a since issue until tonight. I pulled up to the drive thru with just one car in front of me to order and one more car in the total line. I pull up to the order box and the lady says give me 1-2 minutes I said no problem I'm not ready yet. After 10-12 minutes I said " hello " and she responded very rudely saying I told you give me a damn minute after I've waited 12 already at the order box. I waited another 8 mins and I said hey I'm ready to order and she started yelling and screaming at me saying the she's "F****** busy and then told me never mind I'm not serving you anymore. So that's when I recorded. I told her this is a drive thru you have to serve me you are open 24/7 and her nasty response was if you have a ffing problem come inside because I'm not serving you. So I asked nicely her first in last name to speak to her manager and her response was whatever the hell you want it to be. So I asked again nicely saying Ma'am what's ur name please and she said if you have a problem come inside and see me in the building. Then I go inside and she's laughing and egging on the whole situation and then said "what does this little boy think, that he's tuff?" Not sure if this is a race thing or what but Completely uncalled for by all means coming from someone who's been in the kitchen industry for 9 years... her name was Annie by the way so watch out if you catch her on a bad night. read more

So waited in line in the drive through for over 30 minutes, then ordered and sat at the restaurant window for another 7 minutes. 37 minutes for a milkshake. I could have went to Walmart, got the ingredients for a cookies and cream milkshake, bought a blender, went home and made one for me, and 3 of my neighbors. I wrote this whole review and I'm still waiting for my milkshake, as I'm staring at 6 employees walk around like their head is going in circles. read more

This location has always been hit or miss, but has been a complete miss as of late. 2-star eating solely because my (extremely simple) order was correct. I spent 30 minutes from placing my drive-thru order to receiving my food only for it to be cold and unappetizing. The cheese was not even melted on the sandwich. Will not visit again. read more

Worst service! We've been here a few times and every time the service is terrible. Food is good but if your hungry your out of luck getting fast service. We're here right now because it's one of the only places open on Christmas Day. We waited for 25 minutes for someone to come to our table and it was only because i got up and told someone. I decided that a breakfast bowl would be nice for my wife before work, breakfast menu starts at 6 am, went to drive in, they said it would be 20 minutes before they would serve breakfast, this is at 6:20 am we use to come here 3 times a week, its been 3 months since last time I was here and the same poor service will keep me away. read more

This steak and shake location has disappointed me numerous amount of times especially tonight. We waited at least 10 minutes to be seated and later on had to wait 45 minutes for simply just 4 milkshakes and 2 sundaes. To top it off, there were at least 4 tables that went for an hour without being cleaned. I would see a worker walking around without doing anything. I can't believe I waited in line for 30 minutes for ice cold chili. I went thru the drive through because I didn't have time to go in.. but thank goodness I checked the bag as I was driving off.. COLD chili - are they kidding. Thank goodness I didn't go home without checking. I got my money back but was denied compensation for wasting 30 minutes and now no dinner. Came here today to order food to go and I had been standing directly in front of the register for a couple minutes when the lady behind the counter decides to take care of someone else before me even though she could clearly see that I had been waiting longer than the other guest. Only way this gets three stars is because the garlic doublesteak burger was pretty tasty. And the Nutella milkshake was, too. But I went inside to order a takeout at 4:48pm. Didn't get out until 5:35pm. That's ridiculous. Manager seemed concerned and helpful, but things just aren't working properly there. I blame the corporation/franchise for not allowing sufficient number of employees at a location to allow the manager to manage efficiently. There's no way a place can run properly without enough personnel. Many other corporations/ businesses have finally realized that they need to put their own corporate greed aside and treat the lowest-paid employees better ... paying them more is a great way to attract and retain more loyal and trustworthy employees. Until Steak 'n Shake changes its corporate policy to treat customers and employees better ... I'll stay away. read more

Went to Sunrise location yesterday. Very low on gas. Went to drive thru. Had to keep turning car off during 40 minute wait. Oh and ordered two dinners w onion rings and they gave one fry. Had to wait for more onion rings. They didn't even apologize for the wait. Burgers were not hot just warm. Shake was good. I never had to wait that long before. Only 3 cars ahead of us. Horrible, first we got there and it took them 10 minutes to seat us, then after we were sat we had another 25 minute wait before we got to even order. The food was okay and came out at a normal time. Then the milkshakes took 45 to make for me and two others. Then when they were brought out to us there was no apology or anything. Finally when we were paying I had a card that gave me 10% off my purchase but the cashier said that they don't take it, but she obviously hadn't even tried to work it. There was no fine print about limited locations and what the lady was saying was completely false. Never coming to this place ever again. read more

Worst experience of my entire life. I suffer from early set Alzheimer's and I can still remember how horrible the service was here. Too lazy to accept my friend's discount card because the unqualified cashier couldn't figure out how to operate a card. Other than that, the food was decent. read more

Horrible. Just horrible. I waited 20 minutes before waving down a waitress who didn't know who our waiter was supposed to be, 5 minuets for them to figure who the server was, another 10 for them to take our order, and 40 minuets until our food was served. Gernard, our server, has the most dry personality and did not smile once, he forget our shake and seemed like he hated his life. I do not know what the hiring requirements are but it seems like they just hire slow people who are miserable as servers. This has been the worst service I've ever gotten anywhere. It seems t be a consistent thing where I do not get my order in for 30 minuets and end up spending hours of my day at an EMPTY restaurant waiting for my mediocre food. Terrible service. It's a shame because the food is decent for a fast food place and they have kids eat free on Saturday. Of course shakes are great . But service is the worst ever. Stopped in for a quick supper last night. Husband loves their Chicago stye hot dogs.....no longer on the menu. He ordered another hot dog offered...ony to find out when they were served NO relish. I ordered a patty melt & was told NO rye bread. Husband ordered a mint chip shake....NO mint chip, then an eggnog shake...NO eggnog. This was at 5:30 on Saturday evening. Also heard them telling other people they had NO kids menus. The menu has been drastically reduced/revamped & it was a 50/50 guessing game as to whether they were "out of" whatever it was you might want to order. I've come here on the afternoon, evening, late at night and REALLY late at night, (not in that order) and it seems as if every time I come to this location the service gets slower. Last time I almost got up and left before my food came out and only stayed because my friend was hungry. The drive thru is even worse. The food is pretty good for the price, but certainly not the wait. I downloaded yelp just to write this review after how annoyed I was the last time I went. Alright, you are considering going to Steak 'n Shake. So just left that sink in. Done? Good. So obviously you are in the mood for some food that tastes guiltily good. Meaning you know it's not the best ingredients, it's going straight to clogging your arteries, but you can't get it off your mind. So do it! I personally recommend the chocolate banana shake with some garlic sliders and thin fries. The place is decently clean and has that classic vibe. So just give in, and enjoy the food. Shakes here are excellent. Go between 2-4 pm for 2x1 happy hour. Drive thru is open late as well as inside. Service was great. Quick and friendly servers to your table. Has a Diner feel, you even have to wait to be seated. Yet, when the food arrived, it's still a fast food burger and fries on a nice plate. I knocked off a star because what I ordered came out a bit greasy and the checkout process was slow. read more

Staff is extremely rude. I was left unattended after ordering, server was busy chit chatting, had to ask the cashier for my receipt I understand and am aware that the food takes longer to prepare because its fresh, but that's not an excuse for the staff to be indifferent and rude. Worst customer service I've ever received. After waiting for about 40 minutes in the drive thru line, I finally got to the window where I waited about five minutes for someone to take my payment, even though I could clearly see the staff was just talking and laughing. After leaving and getting home I opened my bag to something I didn't order. I'm actually allergic to mushrooms, which were in my burger, and I can't eat mayonnaise. So I've been to this Steak 'n Shake numerous times. Every time it's always a long wait . The time I usually come is from 1 am to 4am. Never more than four other tables. Always a 10 min wait to sit. Always another 10 minutes just to get a drink order. I get it. Maybe the staff is a little short at this time. . Tonight was a little different. We sat at the table for 10 minutes without anyone to come take our order ( not even drinks) so decided to go through the drive thru. Waited twenty minutes only two cars in front. Not surprised so not an issue. The thing was there was an employee standing out the back door smoking marijuana and continued to do so with three cars going through the drive through. they gave the wrong order and no bbq sauce or utensil for coleslaw. I live in the neighborhood. I have never visited this location before nor have I ever tried Steak n Shake but I was craving cheese fries yup that's what I wanted and I was going to get them :-) Well unfortunately it will be the first time and LAST time I ever go there. Terrible service! We were 2nd in line at the "wait to be seated" sign. The place was pretty packed and busy so thought food must be really good. We waited as waiters and waitresses whizzed by without a "hello" or "someone will be right with you". We waited so long that the people in front of us actually left. I was starving and thought "well we are next, the wait should be almost over". Nope, did not happen, we waited more. We actually saw a table empty since we arrived and were awestruck that no one would sit us or even acknowledge we were even there. I flagged one of the waiters down and said "can we sit" he said there were no tables; so I pointed it out. He said "go ahead" Huh? Kind of rude but oh well, now happy we were not waiting for a table. Our waiter took our order right away, happier; we will be fed faster than we were sat. Wow oh Wow we waited another 25 minutes, finally the food came out and we had no napkins or silverware. Waiting for our waiter who seem kind of unfriendly from the get go so we flagged another waiter. He brought us 2 knives and 3 napkins; literally. What am I going to do with 2 knives; kill the waiter? lol jk. I was dumfounded. I had cheese fries so a fork would be nice. Flagging down our original waiter I asked for silverware, he brought us 1 fork, my friend, who also had cheese fries, was like "what about me"? Are we supposed to share the 1 fork? Anyway after all that waiting my burger was cold. My friend took hers home because hers was cold too. The fries were ok, not hot, just warm and not that tasty. So after the whole waiting for our cold food I was ready to RUN out the door. Can you believe we waited and waited for a bill? I was looking directly at the waiter as he passed several times, you know like looking eagerly but patiently waiting? Finally I again had to flagged him down and did the "check please" motion he came over and said "you can just go to the register". Huh? With no bill? I saw other waiters/waitress handing people a bills. Beyond frustrated I went to the register, the guy at the register asked me for my bill! Am I in the twilight zone? I told him my waiter did not give me one. He looked around bewildered and then said ok "where were you sitting" there I pointed. He said "did you have this, and this", "yes" I said. This place was a disaster from start to finish, I will never return. Now I have to say this, God honest truth, at NO point was I rude, I was patient (I actually think Patience is one of the greatest virtue) I made NO complaints and thanked the waiters and register guy. Oh but I KNEW I was going to Yelp and share my terrible experience. If I could give them 0 stars I would, more over I'd give them negative number of stars. read more

It's a shame the food here is really good, because the management and service is really bad. Breakfast this morning and one poor girl is working the whole floor by herself. She was totally overwhelmed and I don't blame her because apparently there was a manager but she was in the back. People were walking out, but I waited and got my food really quick actually. Cudos to the cook because even though I asked for my eggs on a side plate for my skillet, everything came out on the side and with no cheese, but it was all still good. Server as busy as she was never checked back in and some other hostess with a really bad attitude finally decided she should be helping her. Dirty tables everywhere. So, you better like the food because that's the only reason this place is open. I think I'll stick to Denny's. read more
