Update: Still no response from the owner. He has stolen money from me. Original review: I would not go to this restaurant. They only take orders via Self servekiosk. I had four people in my party. Every person in my party ordered a type of chili. I paid for the total in the amount of $46.99. I was confronted by employees who stated that they ran out of chili because they were so busy. They asked if I could order anything else. Knowing that the Bill, would it be much less without the chili, I decided to just put in another order and be refunded my money. The Manager On duty stated that he avoided the items off the check and that I would be refunded my money within five business days. He also told me to contact the manager in the morning to make sure that He refunded in my bank appropriately Nothing showed pending at my bank account. Only posted. I called the next day and the phone rang and rang and rang. Someone picked up and said hello and then hung up. I decided to go into the restaurant the next day. I talked to the manager on duty who is different but he gave me a phone number of Jerry. He said that if I had any questions to send him a receipt And he should text back. Jerry responded to my initial text stating that the transaction is pending. Which is false. I repeated to him that this Transaction was posted at my bank account. Jerry has not responded to any of my texts since. On top of that, all the corporate lines for steak 'n Shake Are no longer. Stay away from this place if you want to keep your money I also find that it's ridiculous that the money that was put as a tip for food that I did not receive was given to the restaurant employees. I asked them about that specifically and they said that goes on our paycheck.

    Where is the rest?

My first shake. The shake was delicious. Butterfinger, as recommended by the drive thru lady. But I'd isn't get a cherry on top and I felt like I was missing some of my milkshake- if was not filled as high as I expected.

Smashed burger. Missing pickles and onions which is what was requested.

The first time I had Steak 'n Shake when a location briefly opened in California, I was hooked. The food wasn't spectacular, but it was the shakes that really drew me in. My favorite is the Nutella. They also had a dark chocolate one which was delicious but sadly is apparently not on the menu anymore. When this location closed, it wasn't until I moved to Florida when I was able to have Steak 'n Shake again. Sadly, this particular location has given me probably the worse restaurant experience I've ever had. I'm not really one to eat inside of restaurants so I usually order delivery through Doordash. The food is prepared the same way by the same staff so it doesn't really matter. I ordered a Nutella shake, a regular cheeseburger with added pickles and onions, five piece chicken strips, and a large onion ring side. I also added a side of sauce for the chicken strips. The delivery person was at the restaurant and to my house within ten minutes. When I was delivered, the fries were ice cold. The onion rings were soggy, and it only contained around four tiny rings for a size "large." The burger was missing the onions and pickles and was completely smashed (attached pic doesn't do much justice). The sauce for the chicken strips was not there. Oh, and did I mention the shake was completely absent? This is the fault of the delivery driver as well, but the restaurant should have ensured the shake was included with the pick up of the food. The chicken strips were the size of my pinkie finger and were tough to chew. The burger went straight into the trash followed by the onion rings and fries. Completely inedible. Needless to say I got a full refund due to this unacceptable food. I've never been more disappointed in my one of favorite restaurants. A few weeks later I wanted to give them one more chance. I didn't take the risk of ordering anything but a shake. Ordered my Nutella shake. It arrived completely watered down, whipped cream sloppily smeared on top and no Nutella drizzled on top which is what is advertised and what I got back in California. Yeah, I've lost hope in this place.

Once again, steak n' shake became a stopover after some drinking in the area. Open 24/7, this place barely had anyone inside late Thursday night, so got a booth immediately. Ordered the Bacon N' Cheese Double Steakburger ($5) and a Reese's Chocolate PB Shake ($4). Shake comes out first - a thick shake served in a frosted glass with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Great flavor, as the taste loops from chocolate to peanut butter intermittently. Food comes out soon after - a hefty burger with two patties, cheese, and bacon layered on top of one another served with thin-cut fries. Burger is only okay, bun didn't seem fresh and the patties were greasy.Bacon is solid and I liked the pickles at the bottom. I prefer thick cut fries over the thin ones, so they were just okay. Service here was quick (don't forget to go up to pay). For late night food, not a bad option at all.

Staff though were polite and welcoming. We were sat in a comfy booth ordered our drinks and perused the menu for choices. Menu has a lot but not too many choices. They offer everything from shrimp to burgers to entrée salads to steaks. Something for anyway. A bit upscale but not stuffy. I went with the $20 salmon and shrimp special with a side of turmeric infused rice. The rest of my party had a burger and fries and the chopped steak and mashed potatoes. We also ordered bread service for the table. Everything was hot and delicious. My salmon was some of the best seasoned perfectly cooked I've had. We passed on the free birthday dessert as we were stuffed but the offer was sweet. So glad we tried this hidden gem, look forward to exploring more of their menu. Cherish was our waitstaff. She was friendly and spot on timing wise. Ask for her for an added enjoyment.

We heard about this place from our friends so when it was time to get the gang together- I said hey…read moreshould we go to Zacapa? She said YES! On arrival, the staff remembered my friend. They're like- cilantro allergy right? Hahahaha. Then they say us at two large tables in the back. Thank goodness because everyone had their kids so there were 5 adults and 4 kids. We had plenty of room back there for the kids to be kids. Our server was great. I had no idea they would tack on 20% tip to our bill, but she wasn't slacking. She was still earning that tip. She brought out chips and salsa and then got our drink order. That helped keep the kids occupied. My friend suggested the margarita flight- so I went for it. The menu is an iPad with pictures of everything but it's also a lot of clicking back and forth and kind of overwhelming. My friend loved the carnitas fajitas and got that again. She gave me a bite- the pork was in chunks but it was so flavorful and tender. I had the shrimp tacos- wow! There were four huge shrimp in each taco (3 tacos) so it was about 3/4 of a pound of shrimp or maybe even a pound! Mine came with a side of rice and beans- which you can adjust a little but not too many options exist. I did not want beans but I also did not want double rice lol. Hers came with the usual fajita stuff- lettuce, guac, salsa, cheese, and sour cream. Both dishes came with your choice of corn or flour tortillas The guys got the chicken fajitas and the molcajete, which came w the same platter of sides and tortillas. There was food everywhere. The kids got chicken tenders, black beans, refried beans, rice, white queso dip and macaroni and cheese. They all kinda shared and of course didn't finish their food. I think they got full on chips and salsa. The margarita flight I had has many choices for flavors. I got kiwi, coconut and blackberry. All were very good but all very sweet. They put a lot of syrup in there. I think you'd be better off just getting a regular margarita or one flavored one because the flight cups are smaller than typical margarita glasses. So if they're putting one squirt of syrup, it's probably too much for that little glass. So next time I'll just get the coconut margarita. They have churros and what not but we opted against dessert. The kids wanted ice cream from the place down the plaza (Violet's- it's great! See my review). We boxed up our leftovers (I couldn't eat all three tacos; I had one left, plus my rice and beans) and paid the tab. She was nice to split it up by family and I'm sure that was not easy! I did not use the restroom but most of us did. The restrooms look like singles but they're not. The women's has two stalls behind that door so don't get caught waiting in the hallway. Go inside. My friend's kid didn't wanna wait or couldn't wait so they went straight to the men's, thinking the women's was a one stall. Hahahaha. Parking is hard to find because it's a busy plaza. We had to park all the way down by Fishbones where the parking lot is a lot bigger. They have a front part of their restaurant which also has some bar seating and then that more quiet back room where we were seated. I would recommend this place. It's a little pricey for Mexican food but it's really good. (Also it's hard to mess us Mexican, I get it). I was impressed by the amount of shrimp in my tacos and the amount of pork carnitas and chicken fajitas they put on their platters. They also have quite a selection of flavors for their margs.

The food and drinks were fantastic, and our bartender Leslie made the experience even better. The guacamole and birria empanadas were standouts, and the drinks were all great. We loved the cantarita, margaritas, Blue Hawaiian, and the spicy Bloody Marys. Leslie was friendly, attentive, and makes excellent drinks. And they put the Illinois men's basketball game on for us!! If I lived here, this place would definitely be in my regular rotation.

She kept up with our table, made sure our drinks stayed filled, and ensured our food came out correctly. We ordered queso dip, the wing trio, margaritas, and waters. Everything was great. While the experience started off a bit frustrating, the management and service team absolutely redeemed it. I appreciate businesses that take accountability and fix things in real time.
