In the time we waited we overheard a customer state they gave him the wrong shake he wanted a malt shake and when the waitress took it back you could hear whoever was making the shake yelling and stating the customer was crazy that she made the shake and it was correct so she wasn't remaking it needless to say at that point we walked out and didn't eat there. 24 minutes drive thru waiting time for a stinking Frisco Melt. I get it that everything is made to order, but I also know that 2 razor thin burger patties take a lot quicker to prepare on a flat top. Also, with these large corporate restaurants, managers are under constant pressure to cut labor at all costs. Pretty good considering the cost. I ordered the truffle cheese burger, was not expecting $5 burger including fries to be good, but it was! The fries were ok, they were the skinny kind, skinnier than McDonald's, I prefer a thicker cut. Oh well cant complain though for the price. Walked in to see maybe 6 tables sat, and one was leaving. 2 servers waking in circles doing absolutely nothing looked at the door several times for 10 minutes before grabbing menus to sit us. Did not speak a word to us. Sat there without anyone coming by to say anything for another 10 minutes before we got up and walked away. We watched the girls doing nothing. Been here a few times. Really good milkshakes and burgers for a really low price.! Service varies depending on the time of day. During afternoon and evenings the place can be a madhouse. Expect long waits for seating , getting your order in, and food arrival. Stopped in recently after a hockey game at the BBT and it was still fairly busy for 1030pm. As soon as you walk in all the tables are filled with dirty dishes and left over food from other guests who have recently dined and left, for whatever reason they never clean or bus the tables after guests leave, is almost as if they do this on purpose, honestly I've been here before on many occasions and and for many years and each and every time you walk in there is nowhere to sit, not because the tables are occupied but because the tables are filled with dirty dishes. You might have to just grab a seat and hope that the waitress notices you and cleans the table you are sitting at. The burgers and shakes are really good but this establishment needs improvement. My love for Frisco Melts and Cookies n' Cream shakes spans over 20 years but my experience with this particular Steak n' Shake has less than extraordinary. We came by on a Thursday evening prior to attending a concert at BB&T. There were two cars in front of us at the drive thru so we felt this would be the quickest way to get food. After waiting in line and not moving for 15 minutes, we backed out and I ran into the restaurant. I waited at the counter for a bit before being helped. My order was ultimately taken and I proceeded to wait for my food while sitting at one of the bar stools by the register. I had an excellent view of the kitchen and I couldn't help but notice the complete disorganization and incompetence that existed at this location. There was a woman making food while she was talking on her cell phone (propping it up to her ear by her shoulder) the whole time I waited. The manager walked by her several times and didn't even bat an eye, which gave me the impression that talking on cell phones while preparing food is acceptable. My food eventually came out after another 20 minutes. We rushed to eat it in the car and were actually afraid of how late we were to this concert because of the inability of this location to operate as a "fast food" establishment. read more

When it comes to customer service and good food this is the steak n Shake to goto... friendly staff and awesome customer service. Even on a bad day they make up for it. I was on my lunch break at for work and no one is more pressed for time then someone who has to get back to work... i ordered my regular favorite in legit had to wait like almost 30 minutes for my food granite it's always packed and I see why great customer service and great food that would happen I was low-key getting upset because I had to wait so long but because of the great customer service that they have after giving me my food they also gave me back my money this is the type of customer service anyone will enjoy... Steak and Shake...the epitome of rude, lazy, unsanitary, and unhealthy. This is the kind of place that represents all that is disgusting about America. The food is mediocre, chain diner fare. It's not great food but at $4 for a burger and fries, who's complaining? The major issue I have (as with many other reviewers) is the service. The staff that work here are very poorly trained. There were tons of servers standing around doing nothing when we tried to pay our bill. Nobody acknowledged or even pretended to be busy doing something else. Where the heck is the management? I felt horrible after my meal, the kind of feeling when you get after ingesting 1500 calories of greasy fast food. I don't plan to come back because of the service and lack of cleanliness. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is for being affordable and opening late hours. Passed by a Denny's one block away on my drive home. Good coupon deals--that should have been a red flag. The burger was small (didn't look like the picture on the coupons) and was particularly greasy. I had the urge to wrap the patties in paper towels and pat them down in an attempt to remove some of the grease. The fries are shoestring (preferred), but we're cold. I'm not a milkshake fan, but "when in Rome..." so I ordered one. It was huge and delivered promptly, way ahead of my sandwich and cold fries, so if you want to eat your meal first, ask the server to prepare your milkshake later so you don't end up with a soupy mess of a drink. Hostess and server were friendly enough, but slow as molasses.
