Great ambience, kind people, savory burgers. Walked in expecting a standard fast food meal but was blown away by a delicious burger. The garlic bun was honestly the star of the show, creating a buttery and savory vessel for the meat inside. The coarse flecks of salt on top are enough to add texture without being overpowering. I honestly wish more places offered a garlic buttered bun because I would order it every where. The meat itself is smash burger style, creating crispy edges around a juicy patty. Being a smash burger, the patty is definitely on the thinner side. Though, that somehow works to its advantage, creating an ideal flavor to meat ratio in every bite. However, if you're hungry, make sure to get the double because the single will likely not be enough. Fries were ok, nothing crazy. Gooey melted cheese over thin cut fries. I personally prefer thick cut like in Five Guys, but if you're a fan of In-N-Out, this is basically that but crispier. The ambiance was clean, inviting, and actually makes you want to sit down instead of taking the food back to your car. The people were kind and added to the overall positive experience. Y'all probably never had in n out or shake shack cause this was bottom barrel AM/PM .39¢ cheeseburgers at best. Shoot, McDonald's got them beat with their wack camel meat McDoubles at a cheaper rate. I'm genuinely not sure why this place has such low reviews, but I guess I should preface with the fact that I grew up with Steak n Shakes in the Midwest. Traditionally, the Steak n Shakes I've been to are more diner style, you sit down and are waited on instead of ordering at a counter, like this location. Once you order you get a number and they deliver your food to the table. Upon walking in, we were greeted by a friendly woman who gave us a quick overview of the menu and took our order. We didn't have to wait long for the food at all, and we came in right around opening as the only ones in the restaurant. Food wise, it was everything I've come to know and love about this place. I got a Frisco Melt and fries, and my partner got a double steak burger with fries. I seriously CRAVE the Frisco Melt and I was so excited to grab one while in Joshua Tree. Yes, it's greasy, yes it's similar to a patty melt, but god it's good. I don't think it's fair to compare this place to the in n out or shake shacks of the world. To me it's a totally different experience, more late night diner thin greasy burgers than gourmet stacked burger. The fries are thin and crispy, which I love, and they were fresh. I was happy with the meal and it hit the spot and cured my craving!! I would recommend if you want to indulge in some greasy food (especially helpful for hangovers!). Making the drive to Palm Springs from Vegas this New Years weekend and just couldn't hold out on the hunger (and a bathroom break.) We'd both heard of Steak N Shake but was a little reluctant since the reviews were a bit less than stellar but from what we experienced, we thought it deserved to be rated higher. The service was friendly, the place was clean and the burger was pretty good. Mark H got a Double Bacon Cheeseburger and I got the Frisco Melt (double patty sourdough burger.) I liked the grilled, buttery sourdough bread which made the burger more rich tasting and made me feel like going off the diet was worth it. The patties were pretty juicy, too which was good. The fries were hot and crispy, similar to the ones you'd get at McDonald's which I like. I passed on having a milkshake since I figured a double patty burger would fill me up. As far as how Steak N Shake compares to the other chains like In N Out, Five Guys or Shake Shack, I'd say it's similar but not quite as good. I think it's much better than the national chains like McDonald's or BK though. read more

I was told I always had to try steak 'n Shake. I'm used to in and out so that's what I compare it to. The service was not as fast as it is at in and out but that did not matter. The burger itself I would have to say is nothing like in and out but equally as good. Just in a different way. The french fries were served hot and they were very good skinny fries. My first time trying steak 'n shake, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I think it was the guy's first day working at the register because I ordered the original double n cheese steakburger combo, but he accidentally put in an order for the single steakburger with cheese combo. But it was actually totally ok because it was the perfect amount of food, and I think I would've regretted the double. I also upgraded the fries to a cheese fries for under $1. Even though he got our order wrong, you could tell he was really trying and was friendly. The food tasted super fresh. The fries are thinner, almost like shoestring fries (which I love). The cheese on the cheese fries was nice and gooey. The inside of the restaurant and the bathrooms were very clean. Overall, a great experience! read more
