I was extremely disappointed with the service at my most recent visit. Looking around it was a little busy but no lines or anything plus no drive thru line. Somehow I ended up waiting 30+ minutes for my order that wasn't even complicated!! By the time I even got it, the shake I had gotten was completely melted and unenjoyable with fries anymore (which I was very excited for). Would be great if management would hire an extra worker to help with this so customers don't leave dissatisfied like I did. Not planning on coming back anytime soon! read more

Was a really windy day and was prolonging heading back to camp at Joshua tree. Figured cooking & fire would be a no-go at camp so decided to eat in town and spotted this place. I had never heard of this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Walked in and it was bright and clean. There are about 4-5 ordering kiosks. Wasn't greeted by any employees and employee interaction was extremely limited for myself and other customers I saw walk in. This might of been a bad thing but they were so efficient that it worked. Placing the order was super easy on the kiosks and our food only took a few minutes. I ordered the #1 combo which was a double cheese burger with fries/drink. I also added a medium onion rings. The burger (while thin) was really really good! Tasted just off the grill at home. No fake taste here. I really loved the skinny fries, they were crispy and tasted great! It reminded me of another chain where a certain number of guys make burgers and hand out peanuts but this burger here tasted sooo much better! Unfortunately, they don't have any locations in the state I live but I would definitely visit again when I'm back in CA (or back east where they are more prevalent). read more

This was a phenomenal fast food stop. Very clean inside. The food was really good. I had the Frisch melt and I would for sure order it again. Nice place. Quick stop for lunch with my uncle and daughter. We've never been to an S N S. We all got kids meals. Weren't terribly hungry after some hikes in JT so we figured what the hell. This is the second time I've been to this restaurant. I returned against my better judgment after having a terrible experience here not long after it opened. At least this time the food didn't suck like it did the last time I was here but the service is still just as terrible. I ordered a chocolate milkshake after I ate my meal. Nothing fancy just a chocolate milkshake with no whipped cream and no cherry. A woman ordered two milkshakes after me. The woman who ordered after I did left with a strawberry milkshake and a chocolate milkshake so I went up and asked where my milkshake was and I was told they're having problems with the machine so I went and sat back down. After an inordinate amount of time I went back up and asked what happened to the chocolate milkshake and they said oh you're still waiting for that? So I went and sat back down after several more minutes I went up and said you know what, forget the chocolate milkshake give me my refund and they made me wait another 10 minutes before they give me my money back. You would think a place whose name is steak 'n shake could get serving a customer a milkshake right? That steak 'n shake occupies a building that would be a really good place to put a real restaurant. read more

So I completely messed up an order that I placed. When I got home I got yelled at lol, so I went back to see if I could get it fixed "completely my fault". Kelsey took my order originally and was there when I came back. She was amazing and greeted me with a smile and only wanted me to be happy no matter what. For what it's worth, I wasn't anticipating enjoying this fast food restaurant as much as I did. Interior is very clean with the white and red paint and decor. Employees were polite and handled our order correctly. Wait time was not quick but was short (they had other customers both inside and in the drive-thru). Food presentation was good and the food was actually quite good. I really enjoyed the chili sauce (ask for it!) on both my cheeseburger and fries. A long day's hike requires refueled sustenance. Although my preference would have been pot roast and veggies, the choices were limited after 9 p.m. Steak and Shake was quite popular. Despite the crowd and limited employees, the food was hot and freshly prepared. I ordered a steak hot dog with chili and cheese, fries and strawberry shake. And chicken tenders with fries. All the food was eaten but it was staple and edible. I was expecting a bigger and longer hot dog. Probably out of greed because I didn't even finish it. Three chicken tenders were in the adult order. The strawberry shake and the Nutella shake were worth recommending. There are so many shake concoctions to choose from. I went here a few days ago with my dad for lunch. I ordered the garlic double steakburger combo, and that was probably the best hamburger I've ever had from a fast food place! It's a good thing I don't live closer (I'm down the hill in Palm Springs), or I'd be eating those burgers as often as my budget would allow. The place is a little spendy at almost $10 for the combo, but I would definitely do it again. The guy behind the counter was definitely not excited to be there, but he was courteous nonetheless. I walked in and it was super clean. There was no one in the front on registers which was weird. I suppose this is The New normal. What was off putting was that no one greeted me to say hi. And two older customers were having trouble using the kiosk and there was no one there to help them. One of the customers was yelling into the back asking for help and it took about 5 minutes and him constantly yelling before someone finally came. Now on to the food. I ordered the garlic butter double burger and it was delicious. Got the small order of fries and a regular drink with that. All very good especially if you use their special seasoning.
