New servers who can't be bothered by you or can't understand that an appetizer should be served first and then the main course. We had a good brunch here. I had the vegan banana pancakes. The consistency was a bit odd and they were very filling. For being vegan, they were pretty decent, but I think I'd still prefer regular pancakes. My husband had a breakfast burrito. That was way better than the pancakes. I'd be interested to try some of their seasonal specials because they looked awesome. All and all, a nice place to visit with a comfy interior. read more

An absolute gem on Main Street. Although I am yet to have a bad meal the star so far has been the eggs benedict. Among the best and freshest I have ever had. Definitely try the potato pancakes. Come on! If you have not tried this place, even after driving by it for years, back and forth past it, you have to make the time and make it happen! Soups are at the same top level as their famous scones! Atmosphere is fun and staff is friendly. Chef even comes out to say hello (sometimes). Love the menu with the restaurant history too. Stella G's is one of two of our *must visit* restaurants when we visit grandpa. I hate waiting. I hate lines. Most times we visit Sunday morning and end up waiting half an hour for a table. It's just really not the same. This use to be a more regular spot for me but my visits have become fewer and far between and each time I go back I'm reminded why. The food has taken a turn. Just found the most amazing hidden gem just 10 miles from my home in Hackettstown NJ. As we know, NJ is the garden state and Stella G's reminds us of that with it's amazing breakfast, brunch and lunch options. With nearby parking paired with an eclectic country atmosphere, Stella G's is sure to please. The restaurant sits in the center of town with an unassuming facade but once inside you are welcomed into a country oasis. The Mrs options are to die for and include indicators of Nut Free, Gluten Free and Vegan. Today I got one of the specials, a Smoked Salmon Salad with asparagus, beers, peas and edamame. The hint of orange made the delightful salad delectable. I am excited to head back for another amazing experience soon. read more

I'd first like to say that I really had high hopes for this place because of the amount of positive reviews. Finally had the opportunity to eat here twice and both times were mediocre at best for different reasons. The staff there is a hit and miss. First time we were a party of two, and we were sat all the way in the corner which was fine cause the waitress was attentive. She recommended the Brazilian coffee they had which had hints of vanilla in it. Food was good, so we had a decent experience and would like to go back again. The second time, we were a party of four people. This time, the place was a bit more busier so we had to wait for a few minutes, which was fine. Two tables opened up, one by the door and one further in. The server/runner seated us by the door and we when we asked to take the table further in, she said she can't seat us there because the waitress is different. That would've been valid excuse if there was no one waiting on line behind us, but there was. So the party of 3 behind us, literally sat down the same time as us and had the bigger table. Service was lacking; coffee wasn't refilled until we had to flag some one done, no knives were giving to us when the food came out and it just didn't seem like anyone cared about us. Tried Twice .. Walked in at 3:50 PM on Sunday, hoping to be early to get a table. Hostess said what is your name put me on a LIST. Well.. People meanwhile start coming in to sit at the bar (of which their are 10 seats). I asked again.. with the hostess? when will be seated.. The manager comes over and says you can STAND outside??? I said I cant stand that long.. and she repeated herself.. Meanwhile EVERY Table in the joint is available. The prior time i came.. I sat at the bar, asked for a table.. they said no you cant sit at the tables.. I had drinks/at for over two hours.. NOBODY EVER SAT DOWN AT THE CHAIRS/TABLES.. You keep this up.. you wont have a business. Tables, Chairs should all be available. The hostess NEVER TOLD me as I was the FIRST Customer in the place that you CANT sit anywhere and you need to sit at the BAR.. Well there will not be a third time. Good Luck read more

New Ownership = not so good. Our first experience with the new ownership- we had always loved Stella G's fruit turnovers. We ordered the apple (as we had many times before). We were disappointed to find that they had changed the filling, which was no longer baked apple, and now just crappy applesauce. We expressed our disappointment to a manager, who informed us that it was NOT applesauce, it was that they 'cook the apples so well, that they just melt'. Really? It really takes a lot of chutzpah to give me lower quality food AND insult my intelligence. That is a classic recipe ..to lose your customer base (for which you likely paid a premium when you bought the business). Now we find the waitresses are nasty and surly, and the owners are mostly absent. I'm not even sure what to rate this, because the place is nice and the food is genuinely great, but the experience is always a coin toss - either really great or kind of offensive. Last month I went and wasn't acknowledged for a good ten minutes. A second couple walked in behind myself and my guest, and a few minutes later they tried to seat them before me. They (in a kind of annoyed manner) sat us at the very back of the bar. It's possible they thought someone else was helping us. It happens. So we're pointed to two seats in the back, but we aren't brought menus, silverware, or water. It's like we weren't even there until we politely requested all of these things. It wasn't that busy, but whatever. We ordered. A chef came out from the back with a ton of these little dessert cups (just some fresh fruit and pudding), gratis for every guest in the restaurant. It was a very nice gesture. When he reached us, he only had one left, so he asked us to share it. Again, very nice to offer regardless, so we didn't mind the idea of sharing. But then he then walked back into the kitchen and came out with a ton more, skipping over us and giving one to each remaining person in the place (we weren't visibly sharing it yet, so it wasn't that). He had several left as he walked past us and returned them to the kitchen. We were kind of put off by that. We got our food. Mine was delicious, she had to ask for syrup with her pancakes, which wasn't a problem... but the giant hair in her meal was a problem. They did take 10% off for having to re-order them, but that's kind of an appetite killer. I asked for a second glass of water and it had a small piece of something floating in it. We were done. What's weird is that two other friends have had hair-in-food experiences here. And thinking back, an earlier family meal here was interrupted by someone else finding hair in their food. I realize it happens, but it's still gross. So, I don't know what to do. It's a great place in the town, but the service last time was just that questionable. We're both mid-20s, well dressed and mannered, and not loud or obnoxious at the least. It's clearly a quality restaurant with a great reputation, so I'd like to go back, but even two hair-in-food experiences really put me off from recommending it again. read more

It hurts me to give this place a bad review as the food is excellent but the service and staff are not. (at least some of them are not). My wife and I went to lunch last Saturday and, while there were 5-6 tables open and no one waiting, we were told that we would have to wait for 15 minutes or so as the open tables were saved for three or more. Now, I can understand this if there folks waiting but it was after 1:00pm and no one else but us were looking for a table. While we used to go there once or twice a month, it will be a long time before we go back and that's a shame... O well for a bad server and or a bad policy. read more

I had heard many good things about this place. So this time I visited Hackettstown I wanted to give it a try. My hopes and expectations were more than met! It was so good that I had to come back a few days later! :) My first visit I went for lunch. The nicely drawn sign in front of the restaurant already caught my eye: "It's asparagus month". Perfect for an asparagus lover like me. I had the Asparagus Lasagne, one of the specials. The presentation of the dish was very creative. But moreover it was exceptionally fresh and flavorful. My second visit I had quite a hard time deciding whether I wanted a sweet or savory breakfast. I chose the stuffed French Toast. Definitely a good pick. Again the presentation and taste were superb. The restaurant was well patronized both times. My first visit I sat outside, the second time inside. I was pleasantly surprised to notice no difference in the service. Always quick and friendly. To sum up: flavorful, fresh, seasonal and unique dishes. If I am ever in the Hackettstown area again, I will come back for sure! read more

What can I say about Stella G's other then - go eat there now!!! I have had their lunch and many of the breakfast items and they are amazing! I have yet to eat there where the food or service is anything but great! prices are totally reasonable and portions are good! I have yet to make their game night or dinner (only open past lunch times on friday and saturday), but from everyone i have heard from it is amazing as well. Their Oktoberfest specials officially put me off of this place. It's been hit or miss a few months but the servers are really nice for the most part and my kids love the pancakes. The owner- not so much. It all begins with a "Harvest Fritatta" which isn't a Fritatta at all. Unless sweaty- yes sweaty egg patties layered on top of microwaved hashed potato pie with some shriveled, microscopic pieces of (maybe) butternut squash sprinkled around the plate constitutes some nouveau version of this classic egg dish.... dehydrated broccoli and green bean pieces are not exactly "harvest" vegetables. I've been here twice after all the glowing reviews I've read and heard. The first time it was a weekday late morning so it wasn't too busy. Despite this, the service was a bit slow. The place is cute. Food was just ok - it's also not your typical giant-portioned diner breakfast. The second time we came was a busy Saturday brunch. Took a little bit to get seated and service was slow again. They've always been nice but there just wasn't a sense of urgency. We even had to wait for our check. Fries were soggy but my breakfast sandwich was good (hard to mess this up though!) All in all, food is OK but the slowness and lack of attention from the waitresses makes this one of the last picks for breakfast in the area. read more

Located in the stagnant town of Hackettstown, Stella G's is a breath of fresh air. Although it is not much to look at from the outside, the inside is decorated in a 'country' decor, making you feel right at home. There are also a few tables outside for those really nice days. The owners are a husband and wife, both of which went to culinary school I believe. The wife is the pastry chef while her husband does the rest of the cooking. Although I would not consider the food gourmet, everything is extremely fresh and is presented beautifully. It seems most people go there for breakfast, which is an amazing departure from the typical diner fare, but they also serve lunch and dinner, all of which are wonderful. Not to mention their prices are extremely affordable for the quality of food they provide. All in all this is a wonderful restaurant for those looking for a beautiful, tasty, and affordable meal. read more

This was the second time my wife and I had lunch at Stella G's. We were in Hackettstown last year and had no idea where to have a decent lunch. After checking Yelp for guidance, we saw that Stella's was at the top of the list, so we gave it a shot. We were extremely impressed with the quality of the food and service and had a GREAT meal. This past weekend, on our way home from the Hope Christmas Craft Fair, we stopped again... OMG!! This place was even better this year!! We had to wait about five minutes for a table to open up, but when we were seated, the service was friendly and efficient. We started with cups of Butternut Squash bisque that tasted something like liquid pumpkin pie! The perfect starter on a cold December day. For entrees, I ordered the Elk Chili over polenta and my wife ordered the Chicken Pot Pie made with fresh winter vegetables. I cannot even begin to describe how delicious and well presented these meals were. The chili was seasoned perfectly and the polenta was creamy and was a perfect support for the dish. A small buttermilk biscuit was handy to soak up what (little) was left in the bottom of the bowl. My wife's pot pie was in a puff pastry shell and the winter vegetables were a firm and tasty accent to the dish. As we didn't want the experience to end, we shared an apple and blackberry cobbler for dessert that was absolutely delicious. I don't know how this gem of a restaurant landed in Hackettstown, but the locals are lucky to have it there to enjoy. read more

We went to a wedding in Hackettstown and were looking on Yelp for a lunch place the next day. We decided on Stella G.'s, due to the varied and interesting menu. The interior is very cute, and our server was friendly and attentive. We got a side of fries, and they were delicious, though it didn't say on the menu that some would be sweet potato fries mixed in (we were both in the mood for just regular). My bf had the Swiss onion soup, which he loved and said tasted fresh and not too salty. I had cauliflower croquettes, which were described as having a chipotle sauce. The croquettes were tasty enough, but compared to all the other prices on the menu (VERY reasonable - most entrees under $10), they were expensive - $7.25. We only got three small pieces, and the sauce was lightly drizzled on top, whereas I had hoped we'd have a pile of cauliflower bites and sauce to dip in. That's really my own food complaint (and I'm pretty sure I could've gotten more sauce if I had wanted). My bf had a sauerbraten special, which he raved about. I only tried the cabbage, and it was FANTASTIC. I had a butternut squash filled tortellacci dish (kind of like large tortellini, made with egg based pasta). It was really good, and the perfect kind of savory dish for a cold autumn day. For dessert, we shared cheesecake, which was good, but my favorite part was a little holly leaf wafer cookie used as garnish. I loved it so much that I asked the server where it came from, and she said that they are made on site from extra batter. I could've eaten a whole boxful, if they came by the box :) I got a scone to go, and though it was over $3, it was worth it. The scone was not super crumbly, though it was dry enough. It was apple cinnamon raisin, and it actually had some gooey appleness on it, which was yummy and a great twist on a traditional scone. If we ever venture out into the Hackettstown area again, we'll definitely go back. I had a hard time picking something to eat, because several things caught my eye, and that can be rare. They make you wait if you are a party of 2 and will not seat you at a table in case a party of four comes in, who then gets seated before you. Totally inappropriate seating policy... I will NEVER return!! The hostess was also extremely rude, and attempted to interject into a conversation I was having with my wife, which was none of her business. I asked to speak to the manager, but the manager was no where to be found, and never came to speak to us. This simple, could be gem of a place, is being ruined by arrogance and ego that should not be part of a small town, friendly establishment. I've been going here for at least 4 years and have introduced @ least 7 different friends who ALL rave about this place. The corn chowder was awesome. The burger was meh... Tasted like any old diner burger. Fries where good. For some reason I wasn't given ice in any of my drinks. I had 3 iced teas. I've been hearing the ads for this place for a long time, so today we tried it on a whim. Like others, we are now wondering why it took us so long to go! Our meals were exceptionally fresh and flavorful. I had the roast turkey panini special, my gf had the caesar salad with chicken. Unlike so many restaurants, the salad was dressed perfectly. What really impressed both of us was the attentive staff. Having experience in restaurant operations, we were extremely impressed with the service not just to us, but the way they kept an eye on every guest in the room.
