Last few visits were good - tonight was sadly underwhelming and we will be reluctant to return for a while. Pros- Service, ambiance, bread service and fair pricing. Cons- martini tasted watered down, could barely find any meat in the bolognese sauce, house salad was smothered in dressing, zucchini chips were way strangely over salted/seasoned, crème brûlée had a soft top ( I mean what's the point-just call it vanilla pudding) and the strawberry sauce served with cheesecake was rancid -had that tingly metallic taste -not fresh at all. We both agreed that next visit, if there will be one, we will just get a bowl of chicken soup and eat the yummy bread butter or split a pizza. Well, sad to have to write this update, but it's gonna happen. Made reservations for dinner on New Year's Eve. Nothing was said about there being an alternate menu for the night. So we arrive, and our waitress seemed rather perturbed that we didn't order any expensive alcohol or rather expensive appetizers. Then we begin to peruse the alternate or "special" menu for the night. You guessed it, none of the the normal favorites were there, and everything else was more expensive. $32 plate didn't include a salad. That was an extra $7. We get food ordered, and the salads come out. Not exactly a killer Caesar salad. Lots of the hard stalk of lettuce, a tiny bit of dressing, and I kid you not... 5 croutons. Finally the entrees come out. I had ordered the Chicken Parmesan, and a large portion of food came out. However, the pasta was not completely cooked, and the chicken was pretty bland. Others ordered lobster dishes, and the lobster was not good. Very gamey, tough, and small portions. Honestly the worst lobster I've ever tasted. For two of us, the bill game out to nearly $100 plus tip. Went in knowing it would be on the pricey side, but expected the food to be worth the money. It was not even remotely close to the normal meal we have gotten here. Just hoping none of the seafood was bad. Gonna think real hard before we come back. read more

Stella's send to be a local favorite but the food is hit and miss. The first time I ate there I had a wonderful charcuterie and wine. #toptier The next time I had their Alfredo pasta. It was bland. I went to Sunday brunch and had bottomless mimosas and their lemon pasta with salmon. It was the best thing I've had there. My friend ordered their crab pasta. It smelled fishy and wasn't edible. I like this restaurant usually. We came here for my birthday expecting a relaxing experience. What we got was good food but rush, rush. We ordered an appetizer first and before it even came, the waiter brought our salads. He finally brought the appetizer soon afterwards, but before we could finish, either salad or appetizer our entrées were brought to us. We informed the waiter that we were not ready for our main course yet and could he please take it and give us a little more time. He gave us about five minutes and brought the entrées out again. We kept them this time but I told him to leave our salads as we were not finished with them yet. We talked to the waiter about feeling rushed, and he seemed to not be very concerned about it, but pretty much blamed it on the chef and his rapidness to get meals out quickly. We were not in any hurry and to-please, next time, to hold off ordering our entrées if he knew that the chef was getting food out faster. I had the eggplant parm with spaghetti. Easily the best in town. Most others taste like reheated frozen food. This was authentic and delicious. Thin slices of eggplant with a tasty sauce and shaved cheese. The service was a little slow and we never got a second basket of bread, but we didn't really care. The atmosphere is great, with low lighting and TV's everywhere for sports. Definitely worth a trip. read more

If you want to have a nice drink and a few appetizers for happy hour, this is NOT your place. First, Tahni had no clue what the $3,$4,$5 food happy hour menu is. She, Tahni had to go ask. And we were in sitting in the lounge. After she told us it is what it always is, we should know. What?? When asking a price on other happy hour drinks, she, Tahin had to go check and see what price with tax was, being sarcastic. We had to wave Tahin down for a 2nd drink, then after 20 minutes had to go to bar to inquire since she disappeared and our drink had not arrived. Suddenly before getting 2nd drink she throws down our bill and walks off, apparently we are finished ordering or she is no longer serving us. Not sure. We were being nice, but it was VERY apparent if you are not ordering dinner, she is ticked and not going to waste her time with you. Our bill was incorrect and drinks were charged wrong. When we flag her over to tell her she grabs the bill and wrinkles it up and stomps off after telling us those were the buttons on the computer. Still we are saying thank you and just looking for a couple drinks and appetizers, not this server attitude. On the plus side, the brusscetta and meatballs were very good. The drinks were very good. Being from out of town, our family all brags about how great of a place this is. We have been twice, just for appetizers and drinks and both times the servers attitudes were about the same, even though we were hanging in the bar and enjoying the happy hour items offered by Stella's. I believe if the company and staff do not want clients who enjoy the happy hour food and drinks, then don't offer them. But if you choose to, then treat all customers with respect not matter what they order. I have worked waiting tables and have never not tipped until today because where I choose to eat and spend my money should never make me feel like I am wrong for what I do or do not order on their menu. Id like to say I'd give it a try again, but I will not. This is by far the worst server attitude I have ever encountered and it's not worth my headache over it. read more

Sometimes the service makes the restaurant. In certain instances, it devastates the whole experience. Here, the latter reigned tonight. Upon walking in, I was greeted by 4 high school aged girls who flatly refused to seat me in the beautiful, decorated dining room. Despite telling them that I was willing to wait, and didn't want to sit in the bar, they were vehement, with nearly religious zeal. I was not to sit in the dining room. Yet the dining room wasn't full. Was I in poor appearance? Forgot to brush the teeth? Waving a gun around? No. Forced to sit in the bar, I discovered a cafeteria setting with a bar, screen tvs everywhere, hi-top stools and bad lighting. What an anticlimactic fall from grace. And here's what happened: 1) i waited 20-25 minutes to order. 2) a piece of food was on the menu 3) I ordered a Caesar salad with spaghetti 4) no Caesar salad arrives. 5) spaghetti arrives. 6) I tell server that I'm missing the salad 7) spaghetti is removed. 8) salad finally comes. 9) I request pepper. 10) pepper never comes. 11) minutes later, spaghetti is dropped on the table despite just getting the salad. 12) server seemed upset that I rejected it the first time. 13) server leaves promptly. 14) I flag her down and ask for red pepper flakes. 15) paltry amount of butter present for the bread. 16) I ask for more. 17) server gets upset a little. 18) I walk out to the entrance and ask where the bathroom is. No joke! 19) the hostess escorts me back to the bar and shows me the bathroom there instead. She didn't want me to use the dining room bathroom. It was as though I was either the wrong ?? Gender, color or smelled, like some weird form of segregation. So odd. Spaghetti had homemade pasta that was fresh. Pomodoro sauce was heavy on the vinegar but wasn't too bad, kind of a boring dish by design, I suppose. Caesar salad was good with excessive salad dressing. Bread and butter were nice. The whole experience was ladened with subtle rejection, both with the hostesses, at the table, and even with the bathroom escorting. While the food was probably above average for Lubbock, it was an unpleasant experience for sure. The bathroom was above average. read more

The food was fresh and delicious and the staff was on top of everything whether it was keeping drinks full or the table clear of empty plates. The new specials menu just released the day before we came in and the only thing I wish they did was have staff try the specials so they could explain them a bit better. The server we had hadn't tried the menu yet and it made it difficult for him to explain the dishes fully. This is definitely our new go to brunch spot. Went this pasted Sunday and had there brunch! Mine was horrible. Grand slam breakfast (forgot the name) anyway the eggs were supposed to be Sunny side up and I got hard cooked sunny side eggs. The waitress was nice and brought me two sunny side up eggs. Of course by then the rest of my meal was cold. Only good thing were there Bloody Mary drinks. Good. read more

This was the worst service of my entire life. We got sat and got greeted after 10 minutes. We got our appetizers and never saw our server again, we had to ask the host to find our server and another server came up to take our order after 30 minutes. We finally ordered and tables that got sat after us had left before we got our food. my pizza fell apart when I went to get my first slice and I they got the toppings wrong after we waited for so long. We were planning to pay with card and ended up leaving cash because it took the server so long to come back for our check. There were also a total of 4 tables in the main dining room so it was not busy. read more

The half Wedge Salad isn't what a wedge salad should be - 3 pieces of romaine lettuce with lots of blue cheese dressing where the red color of the cherry tomatoes were barely visible and could not tell what else was in there but do know for $10 I expected a true mouth watering wedge salad like United Market Street has. read more

This is still some of the best Italian food in Lubbock, TX. That being said, my Crab Amalfi was well prepared and presented, but I expected more of a creative touch. It just didn't rise to the level of 'memorable' like it should have. The largest disappointment was the service. Red flags went up when the hostess didn't know if she could seat us as there was only 1 server... FOR 10 TABLES !!! Clearly a management failure. We ordered cocktails, but it took quite a while to get them. So long, in fact, that they wanted to serve my salad course BEFORE I got the cocktail. Now I'm annoyed because the kitchen and server aren't in sync and my experience is starting to wane. Finally, the cocktail arrives, then the same salad shows up again after sitting in the kitchen. I'm still trying to enjoy the cocktail. Ok, I begin eating the salad and visiting with my dining companion when all of a sudden the main course arrives! So I still haven't finished the cocktail, I just started eating the salad that came too early, and now someone I've never seen before (not the server) is setting plates of pasta in front of us like they're trying to turn the table! We are now the only table occupied in the restaurant. Now I'm agitated... remaining civil requires a lot of energy and attention I should be expending on my dining companion, the food, and the experience. So the experience was a total fail... a dumpster fire at best. Bless her heart, our server remained professional and unflappable, but the kitchen screwed up everything by misjudging the pace of the meal. Where was management to monitor this derailment and get it back on track? This experience left me disappointed and dismayed since the previous week I had the best restaurant experience EVER at Stella's, where everything clicked and the timing was spot on. Stella's is still one of the nicer restaurants in Lubbock with a comfortable ambiance and reasonable noise levels. But I'll have to pause any future visits in hopes management is willing to adequately staff the restaurant for the noon rush. read more

We've been going here a couple of times a month for twenty years. Tonight we went to celebrate my birthday as I wanted a good steak. I asked for medium rare and got medium well at best. I waited at least ten minutes for the server but she didn't come by and I was hungry, so I didn't wait any more and started eating, but didn't finish. The steak was mostly gray and crusty with minimal pink, definitely not medium rare. It was very disappointing for a $130 meal. read more

Stella's hosted lunch for my sister's graduation, and they did a pretty good job. Caesar salads were a little wet and floppy for the liking of our table, but the remainder of the food was flavorful and filling. Service was prompt, drinks were solid, and the waitress seemed to have a solid understanding of the menu. Would definitely return in the future! read more

Free bread on the table is very good and so was the spinach dip appetizer. Service was good, and the lobster ravioli was very good but I do not recommend the ragu. The noodles tasted like play doh and the meat had a weird flavor. read more

I had a fantastic lunch at Stella's today. I ordered the Prosciutto Stuffed Chicken with Mustard Sauce, mashed Potatoes and veggies from their $14.99 weekly special menu. Instead of the soup, I substituted it with the salad and ranch dressing. My salad was excellent, crispy lettuce, and just the right amount of dressing. Along with the salad, I had their focaccia bread with the chive butter, which was excellent as always. The chicken arrived and looked very appetizing with the mashed potatoes and vegetables. My chicken was extremely tender and flavorful with the mustard sauce . The mashed potatoes were creamy with a great consistency. The veggies today were sautéed, excellent and included zucchini, snow peas, peppers and onion. I particularly enjoyed the crispier vegetables. They had just the right amount of seasoning. My friend had the Fried Pork Loin with Mashed Potatoes and Vegetables. The pork had a light crusting and was prepared exceptionally well, were very moist and not dried out at all. Once again, the potatoes and veggies were cooked to perfection. The portions were excellent and in fact, I brought some home to enjoy for dinner tonight. I very much enjoyed my lunch today and will most definitely return to try other specials at lunchtime. The service was prompt and pleasant. read more

I'm giving 3 in case it changes in the future, as the size of our party was atypical. We went for a company Christmas dinner. I think around 20 in our party. I was told we had reservations in a room but that wasn't the case when we got there. It was a long line of tables putting us all NOT within talking distance. Our poor waitress didn't have much by way of help, as the large tables were distributed among other wait staff as well. If you don't have the staff, maybe don't accept the reservation? Because you're about to bog down the entire kitchen and FOH staff not to mention the bar. We sat for at least 15 minutes with empty drinks, including water, every time, that was the consistent theme of the night. The food was cold when it arrived and I was way more impressed with the pretzel charcuterie app I ordered rather than my entree, which was dry salmon on a bed of polenta (the polenta was probably amazing when it was warm). I'm sure if you're there under different circumstances that it may be different, but that was a yikes first impression, and WAY overpriced for whatever they're reaching to do with these plates. read more

First, I want to say that we love Stella's and M9 and go regularly. We have multiple favorites that we order often, but last night I tried one of the Chef's specials and it is honestly one of the best things I've ever tasted, and I hope they will consider putting it on their regular menu because I want everyone to try it! It is the Pan-Seared Tasman King Salmon with Ginger Soy Glaze, Thai Chili Potatoes, Ginger & Garlic Broccoli, Five Spice Carrot Shavings. The crust he created on the salmon was incredible (honestly the best I've ever had) and the ginger soy glaze was a delicious complement to not only the salmon, but the vegetables as well. I wish I could have this once a week. I may never be happy with other salmon after having it this way! We sat at the bar last night and our servers and bar tenders were amazing! So friendly and attentive. This is definitely a favorite spot for us for many reasons, and if you haven't tried it yet, you definitely should! read more

Nicest restaurant I've been to in Lubbock. Fried mozzarella was amazing. Homemade bread is given but the butter is super cold. Not a fan. Artichoke dip was great but super rich. Like one bite was plenty. The pizza was ok. I like a super crunchy crust and that it wasn't. Others in my party had eggplant parm, which was good. Chicken parm, which looks weird and tasted ok (see photos). Others got the special and a few other thing. I'd go back. But remember, it takes a long time for the entire process of the meal. Food, cocktails, wine and beer were great. The ambience was nice, but the floors were greasy so be careful if you need to walk to the restroom. Absolutely the WORST service. No water refills, didn't open and pour a bottle of wine ordered for the table, no checking on meals, didn't clear dirty plates as the meal progressed, and no checking to see if anyone wanted another drink. A 10% tip was a gift that the waitress did not deserve. Even though everyone enjoyed their meal, the experience was ruined by poor service. I can't say I'll return. read more
