    spicy pork bibimbap
    Steve C.

Not the best Korean food I've had since I live in SoCal where you could get a ton of amazing Korean food. However, Step was solid and the employees are nice. Sweet and Spicy Korean Fried Chicken - Flavor and taste was definitely there but I wish the chicken was more crunchy. Also the chicken was a bit lukewarm instead of piping hot. Spicy pork bibimbap - Solid bibimbap bowl. I think the sauce could have been a bit better with some more flavor and spice, but I liked all the veggies and the hot stone bowl which made the rice very crispy. Overall a solid korean meal if you're looking for a quick bite to eat.

First visit to Step Korean, it's been in the list but so much new food in Reno and such little time! The place was an absolute ghost town on a Thursday at 5, we were flying solo. That being said the service was great, staff is really friendly and the place is very clean. The decorations are really nice, super cute and cozy inside all the way down to the bathrooms. The drinks, when I ordered the Cucumber Lemon Chiller, I was told "this is like a martini, is that ok?" Of course! Well, I wish we would have said more like a dirty martini. Honestly this thing I absolutely hated, but I am not big on dirty martinis either. Heavy on the lemon and I'm guessing also some blended cucumber. But that's alright, my wife's Mango Sunset was quite amazing, wish I could swapped out. I'm sure the cosmopolitan is good as well. Just maybe skip this Cucumber Lemon. The food! Everything looked great on the plate, was flavorful, piping hot, and definitely unique. I already love Korean food, this not being my first Korean by any stretch of the imagination. I would start by saying everything is very sweet. All the chicken flavors were sweet, the japchae was quite sweet on its own, and the corn tots were heavy on the sweet side. Not everything had to be THAT sweet, especially the japchae. The big miss for both my wife and I came in with the corn tots. CANNED corn. I know it doesn't bother some, but boy did it really bother us to immediately smell then taste canned corn, even if it is cream of corn. That's a total miss, especially with how strong this specific on it. Even going frozen corn and creaming it up in the kitchen would make these 10x better, canned corn is not something I eat in my life, ever. Really canned veggies in general. This may pass somewhere with a different price structure, but at prices competing with Arario Midtown, canned corn is a miss. The final one was the chicken itself, the flavor options were tasty, but all 3 didn't really taste that much different from each other. The big one here was how stringy the chicken was, they could not be ripped in half to share, and they were not even easy to bite in half. This one doesn't necessarily point to any fault of the kitchen, but is most likely the vendor the chicken is coming from. That part is just a hunch, as tough stringy chicken usually points to very cheap chicken that was raised too quickly. But that part was a bummer either way.

We came here on Saturday night around 7:30pm and it wasn't busy at all, parking was easy and we were able to get a table right away. The staff were friendly, the place was quiet with a relaxed feel. However, I was disappointed with the drinks and food. I had a cucumber lemon drink, the waitress asked me if I liked strong cucumber flavor when I asked for it. She was not lying about the strong cucumber taste. I didn't hate it, but It didn't taste very fresh. The other drink we ordered was the mango sunset and it was soooo sweet! Might as well be dessert. We ordered fried wings for appetizers and all three flavors were extremely sugary. One of the flavors felt like it literally had sugar on it. But if that's your thing, you may enjoy them. If you're starving, stay away from the hot pot, it's scorching hot! I had to wait and blow on my food every bite I took. It comes with a side of miso soup, which was okay, maybe a tiny bit on the saltier end of the spectrum. The hot pot itself was very bland and the only ingredient that provided any flavor was the side of sauce. The other dish we ordered was the seafood soup that was actually not very spicy and the dominant flavor was gochujang.

Service was great! Super friendly and they offered some recommendations for my first time. It was really modern and clean in the restaurant. I ended up ordering Jjampbong, calamari and mixed wings. The Jjampbong had good flavor, but the noodles were... different. I'm used to the original jjambong recipe from growing up so a different spin on them was interesting. The noodles were thick and kind of overpowered the meal. Unfortunately, the calamari and wings were not crispy at all. They were a bit soggy by the time I got home (less than 5 minutes away). I would definitely like to come back and try a different dish to redeem our take out experience for sure. I'll post a follow up review when I go back! :)

This was our second visit to this place, and it was just as amazing as the first! We kicked things off with the calamari rings, which were crispy, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. They came with a generous serving of cabbage and a delicious dipping oil that we couldn't get enough of. On top of that, we got some complimentary pickled vegetables and kimchi, which were so good we asked for a second helping. For the main courses, we had the braised Korean-style chicken, and it was fantastic. The chicken was tender, coated in a savory gravy, and loaded with vegetables and tteokbokki. It also came with a side of rice that paired perfectly with the dish. The second dish we tried was the pork kimchi stew, which had just the right amount of spice and a nice tangy sourness. We even added extra hot sauce and hot oil to bring the heat to another level. This also came with a serving of rice. We also had refillable Diet Cokes. Our server, Kai, was super friendly and made the experience even better. If you're looking for great Korean food in town, I highly recommend this place! Good food, good ambiance and great service.

We dropped in for a quick early dinner to Step Korean Bistro and are very glad we did. The dining room is open with a modern oriental bistro motif. Very clean and airy. We were promptly seated by the hostess and greeted by our waitress for drinks. Having never had Korean food previously, to be honest (we went more by the pictures than the description, as well as a bit of extra questions than usual of our waitress. She was very engaging and so nice. We both selected the Beef Japchai ( spelling?) entree. As we awaited our entree the brought small aperitif serving of Kimchi, pickled daikon radish, pickle kale . It was really yummy and not over powering with the pickle flavor; nicely subtle. We finished the meal with the Lemon Cheesecake; exquisite! Definitely plan on going back to try some different entrees.

Wow this place is such a fun unexpected gem in Sparks! We came for lunch and were blown away by the flavor and beauty of the dishes. We ordered the sweet n spicy Korean fried chicken to start. It came with some beautifully plated sides of black beans, pickled beets, kimchi and macaroni salad. For entrees we got the spicy pork and the beef hot pot. Both were tasty but the spicy pork has our hearts! Ambiance was very chill with beautiful decor and friendly service. Can't wait to visit again!

The food to start off is amazing. The quality of the Korean fried chicken is top notch. Cooked well and breaded nicely and the honey cheese flavoring is borderline addictive. The service was wonderful and friendly. No issues with performance either. The interior ambiance is very classy and vibrant with many plant decorations. Although the beef bulgogis flavor is great though much left to be desired. It's very light in flavor and not very inspiring. The Korean braised beef though is quite nice but in a similar state as the bulgogi. Another thing is the pricing is quite high for the food received. This is a nice place to go to occasionally but I'm driven off by the prices

Kimchi Fried Rice and Soft Tofu Soup

Wow, I'm very impressed by the food at Step Korean Bistro! The flavor profile of every dish is unique and delicious. I'll be coming back as the menu is extensive. Unfortunately, our servers were not really attentive to my table and talked loudly; a bit distracting when eating. I hope to come back and this was a one time issue.

    Korean braised chicken (spicy)

Another great trip to Step Korean Bistro! Great place to go with family in town for the holidays. Everyone was super friendly, the service was perfect and the place looks even better than my last visit. I tried the calamari and the soju, but forgot to snap pictures, both were good and the calamari had a wonderful crunch. This time around I decided to try the Korean Braised Chicken (Spicy) with a rice cup. The chicken was tender and the flavor was excellent with just enough spice for it to sit with you for a moment. You can also opt to ask for some additional spicy sauce on the side as well if you prefer more spice. After our meal we were even played a little game where we attempt to speak a couple Korean words and we're rewarded with a sweet Korean snack. The one I selected was a wafer with chocolate inside and those were tasty as well. Thank you so much to everyone there! We had a wonderful time and enjoyed everything we ordered, it's great to see another local business thriving and sharing their culture.

    Beef Japchae with rice
    Jim W.

Soju on the menu, excellent start. Settled for a root beer, driving and all. Didn't settle on dinner. Got everything we could have wanted. First the sweet pickled cucumber, tangy greens and kimchi as a free pre-meal tasting. Spring rolls and edamame as apps. Spring rolls were not the best I've ever had but with the dipping sauce they improved. A little mushy inside. She enjoyed the edamame to the last bite. Her tofu soup was wonderful. Fragrant, red tinged broth was very tasty. The beef japchae was a new taste for me and I loved it. Glass noodles, tender beef in a semi sweet sauce topped with thinly shredded purple cabbage with a large bowl of rice on the side. This is a dish I will revisit on our next trip to STEP. Our server knew about each dish and helped us make the best choices. She checked back just often enough. At the end of the meal she brought a card with Hello and Thank You in Korean spelled out. We spoke the Korean version and were rewarded with a Korean treat from the large basket. What a fun way to celebrate finding such a great new place.

    Tteokbokki
    Trina P.

I love this place so much. We ordered the Tteokbokki and Seafood Tofu Soup. The tteokbokki was the right amount of chewiness and bounce. The seafood tofu soup was delicious and had a great kick! My friend (first timer at Step) agreed they preferred this place over the other Korean restaurants in town! The service is always attentive and kind. Five stars is not enough for this place.

One thing we noticed right away was that the bonchon was already set on the tables before guests arrived. It wasn't a large spread--just a small tin of cheese corn and a divided tray with kimchi, bean sprouts, and fish cake--not sure how long they were left out and did look and taste dry. The servers seemed to work well together. Different team members checked on us, cleared dishes, served food, and helped other's tables. Once it got busier, they also used robot servers to help deliver food. We started with the salad with house dressing and the popcorn chicken. Both were good, and the chicken was nice and moist. For the BBQ, we ordered the Chardol, Ju Mul Luck, Hawaiian Steak, Tri-Tip Bulgogi, and Galbi (short ribs). Having eaten at quite a few Korean BBQ restaurants in Las Vegas, we noticed the portions here were a bit smaller. They also limit each round to three appetizers and four meat selections. Overall, the service was good, and we especially appreciated Eurie for being friendly and attentive. The only thing that concerned us was when another server changed our grill. Instead of lightly drizzling oil onto the grill, she forcefully squeezed the bottle, causing the oil to shoot out onto grill. It seemed like an unnecessary safety risk for both guests and employees. Our favorites were definitely the Tri-Tip Bulgogi and the Galbi. Both were flavorful and tender. The Chardol was good, but the slices were very thin and the portion felt a little small. The restaurant filled up quickly between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m., so it's clearly a popular spot. Unfortunately, some of my old favorites aren't quite the same. I used to love their deep-fried oysters, which are no longer on the menu and have been replaced with deep-fried mussels. The kimchi stew recipe also seems to have changed and wasn't as memorable as before. That said, they still serve my favorite gopchang (beef small intestine). When cooked properly, it gets wonderfully crispy and reminds me of Mexican tripas tacos--definitely worth ordering. I'd personally skip the bibimbap appetizer. The rice was hard, the ground beef was cold, and it felt like it relied too heavily on the gochujang sauce for flavor. Even with those changes, I'll continue supporting this business. Service was also attentive.

The first visit, service was warm and timely. Food was great. The second time we had gone, a few instances made our visit a bit uncomfortable due to the service and food quality. When we first arrived, the grill had white bubbles upon being fired up. The server grabbed us another when we asked but her tone while informing us it was normal was passive aggressive, almost as if our request was weird and inconvenient. She would come up later to critique our grilling because our gas went out a few times but I think the one we were sat at wasn't working well as this had not happened before here or any other kbbq spot we've visited. After this, it seemed like we were a burden. We asked for a plate to place cooked meat away from the raw ones and it seemed like the supervisor for the night came up to us for this. She asked why we would need one and then snapped that they couldn't due to something like they were already portioned. We were there 4 hours before closing, there didn't seem to be any wait up front, and yet 1.5 hours in and the server became more insistent on checking on us (they only came up twice prior to this after we flagged them down). On top of this, the food quality since the last time had declined just as much. The rice cakes weren't cooked fully and cold, the cheese for the corn cheese rubbery, and ice cream freezer burnt. For the price of $40 (where we do the cooking mind you), you would expect better efficient service and food. We will not be visiting again.

This doesn't make my an expert but it would be fair to say, I am quite familiar with what is considered mainstream traditional Chinese cooking. But let's get to the food, with the caveat that I realize that everyone's preferences can vary widely when it comes to food. So my opinion is based on what one would find in Hong Kong and San Francisco. The chicken chow mein had all the correct ingredients, long noodles that were slightly thicker than say spaghetti, had the correct amount of softness without being mushy. Chicken was presented in slices and appeared to be white meat, there was some white onions thrown in there for some texture and flavor. Normally when I order chow mein, it isn't served with a brown "gravy". Not that this dish was swimming in it, but think of spaghetti with tomato sauce. Replace the red with medium dark brown and you get the picture. Now my guests who are Reno locals, thought it was great and flavorful. I would agree with the flavor part but it was much too saucy for my tastes. Would I try Chin Chin again for noodles? I'm not sure but the owner did state, they can make dishes any way I like, so perhaps I'll order off menu next time. The stir fried mixed vegetables is where I was most disappointed. Let's start with the ingredients. All were sliced in 2-3 inch pieces, which included button mushrooms, zuchinni, bamboo shoots, brocolli, carrots, and onions. This dish could have passed for a savory vegetable stew. There was a lot of gravy, so much so, that it colored all the vegetables brown, except for the carrots. The sauce had a slight "twang" to it, almost vinegar or worchester-like. Not my thing, I could not taste the individual flavors of the vegetables because of how heavy the sauce was. The brocolli was over cooked where the flowerette parts were pale. I prefer my vegetables to be just cooked, almost snappy. I would not order this dish again. No comments on the restaurant itself as both times I tried it, was for take out. So bottomline, would I try Chin Chin again? Yes but I will be very specific on how I would like my order prepared. Maybe for their lunch special.

Fun to try this place after having it on my list forever. I didn't realize it was a fast casual…read moreplace so we walked in thinking we would be waited on...whoops! No big deal, just something to mention. We started with the kimchi fries- great flavor but the fries were hard to grab without using utensils. Wish larger fries had been used....kind of felt like we got the bottom of the batch! Variety of noodle and rice dishes. I needed more heat so I asked for their chili oil to up the heat. I wish the water offered had ice or was cold. Also wish utensils and napkins were more available. Service was fast and friendly - we even got some potstickers extra free of charge since the items we ordered came out all at different times.

This place came highly recommended to me by a local and then when I saw it was on Yelp's top 100…read moreplaces in the country I knew I had to try it! We stopped by on a Sunday, which is their Dim Sum day. What I really like about this place is that they only prep a limited number of items and when they're done, that's it! So if you want to enjoy their food, you need to get here early! We came at 11:20am (they opened at 11:00am) and it was packed already. By 12:30pm they were out of a few items already. We got the chicken dumplings, crab rangoons, and Khao Sai with chicken. Wow, just incredible all around. The items were served quickly and piping hot. We sat at the bar so we could peek around the corner into the kitchen and watch them prep and slang these items with such speed and precision. I haven't found many places that serve Khao Soi so I knew I needed to get it. The broth was so rich with a spicy complex flavor and a generous portion of noodles. I got the steamed chicken while my friend got the fried chicken - honestly, we probably could've split it, especially since we got the other dim sum items. The owner is amazing, so friendly and really wants everyone to feel welcome. He knew so many people and it makes me want to be a regular here (too bad I don't live in Reno!) The owner is expanding his offerings and occasionally does a drag brunch, which seems really fun! Do yourself a favor and stop by here early and enjoy the amazing food!
