The food is very good and flavorful, I had the bibimbap with no added protein. It comes with a really good tasting side sauce, too. They serve the meals with delicious sides, spicy kale, pickled radishes, and kimchi. My husband had the Soft tofu soup and it was loaded with flavor. The inside is very clean and all the decor is really nice. The service is good and we were even given suggestions of dishes to try since it was our 1st visit. I only had the 3 dishes below.  - Arario does the yuggeh? (Beef tartare) better, I'd give the one here a 3 out of 5. - Sauce for the salmon appetizer was good, a little sweet. Salmon quality was on par for the Reno area. Price is fair for the amount of salmon you get.  - KFC has like 3 different flavors and they will accommodate multiple flavors per order, which is cool. I have zero baseline for what "good korean fried chicken" is, as this is the first time I tried it. I personally was not a fan, texturally and flavor-wise, but I'm glad I tried it. Very heavy use of seasoning (kind of like wingstop). The batter had more volume than the meat itself, but the texture was air-ey, not weighty, if that makes sense. Almost like a chicharron instead of a chicken skin. For lovers of this type of batter, I think the 6 or 7 pieces for I think $7 is a great value.  The restaurant was clean, bright, with simple yet cute decor. Service was very friendly. The food was not mind blowing, but it was solid and priced fairly.  I'd come back again to try some of their main dishes next time. read more

Food. The bibimbap (regular) was nicely very filling/satisfying as I was hungry. An appetizer of calamari rings was also very good with the batter used. We didn't really like the black bean appetizer/condiment as the beans were "waxy" and not what we'd prefer. Service. Very good service and attention to keeping my water filled. Do you need more? Our cashier/waitress/server did it all. Very good attention to detail. Ambiance. Furnishings were pleasant and nicely done. We dined here twice since they opened. Everything is top notch. The staff is excellent. For those who haven't been here before, our favorite dishes are Jjajang Udon and Beef Japchae. I highly recommend these. I personally love their yoghurt soju as well. It may not be for everyone but I find it refreshing. read more

Sunday afternoon my youngest son and I were on the hunt for lunch. On our way to one of our normal places, we noticed this location had finally opened. Parking is ample since it occupies a corner spot in a grocery store mall. We were greeted promptly and immediately seated. During the day, the interior is well lit, with light rock playing in the background. My son went with the Korean braised chicken and I went with the beef japchae. We also split an order of potstickers. The entrees were served with small sides of kale salad, pickled radish, kimchi, and steamed rice. The good...The serving sizes are good even though the price might seem a little high for lunch but normal for dinner. The food was tasty, and the menu features a wide variety. The food also had a nice presentation which is always a bonus. The bad...For reasons unknown an order of potstickers comes with five which is not helpful for dividing evenly. The service needs fine tuning. The main server had someone in training with her, but there were some stumbles. Our appetizer order was taken, but they forgot to take our entree order. When the entrees started coming out, I received mine, but my son's arrived much later. So we had that awkward choice of waiting with my food getting cold or starting without him. This is just the place we have been missing in Reno! We haven't had a standout Korean specific restaurant since Tofu House closed. When you step into the place, you are greeted by this mix of kawaii-modern look. It's unique and fun. My wife and son loved the decor, and it made for a great backdrop to the meal. The servers are super helpful, polite, friendly, and prompt. They really help make this place a to notch dining experience. Now for the food. It's fantastic! Step has quickly become one of our top restaurants in the Reno/Sparks community. We were in such desperate need for more good Korean food and this place fills that need masterfully! My stepson has fallen in love with their Beef Japchae, he loves it and talks about it still. We tried a variety of things including the Cheesy Corn Tots (sweet and salty while still maintaining a creamy crunch, Korean Ceviche (beautiful, melt in your mouth octopus in a spicy and flavorful broth) spring rolls (fried to perfection) and Korean Fried Chicken( sweet and spicy and Honey Cheese flavor) which is officially my new greatest food love! They also have a fantastic hot tea selection (get the ginger tea, it will warm you right up!) and other soft drinks. Everyone there is so incredibly friendly and sweet. This is the old Black Rock Pizza spot that's been renovated on the inside. With white walls and a live plant wall along with some nice art, the interior has a calming, fresh vibe. The Korean fried chicken appetizer was very good. The Bulgogi was delicious with very tender beef and flavorful vegetables. Ambiance was 5 stars! Everything in this place looks custom made and had its own flare! The light was perfect for pictures. They have a great color balance between green, white and black. Service was spectacular! There was two servers running around, when me and my wife arrive there was only 1 or 2 tables so it wasn't bad, maybe if it was busier they might not be able to handle it. Food all came out fresh, me and my wife ordered a lot so we can try everything, at first we didn't think we were ordering a lot since most Korean places have a lot of small plates and Assisting plates with your meal, this place wasn't the case. They had 3 sides and it was pretty much similar to my bibimbap toppings. For the starts we had cheese tater tots and fried chicken. Came out piping hot and everything was crispy!! Entrees all came out after and everything was big portions which was great! Can't leave hungry from this place! Overall the food was perfect! I took one star because I did feel like the Japchae needed some soy sauce or salt of some sort. Also wished we could order side dishes in smaller portions. So.. I was bit disappointed today. Came in after three. Every time I go to Fernley from Sacramento, I go out of my way to have the Jjajangmyeon here. It's a black bean noodle. I fell I. Love with it when I had it the first time with udon noodles. This would be my fifth time here. I'm didn't want to complain but I been craving fresh, warm, comforting Jjajjangmyeon. The last time I came, my order was confused with Jampbong the spicy seafood soup. So we ended up with two spicy soup dishes. If you're Korean. You know the tradition is to order a spicy soup and the black bean soup. I didn't worry about it because the server said I didn't ask for it and she would switch it out if I wanted to. But I didn't want to get her in trouble or feel uncomfortable with the kitchen and staff. As a result, I just ordered the black bean soup togo to eat when I got back home. I didn't want to complain about it. But today was not a good experience either. It was a cold day. But not as cold as it is going to get this winter. We walked in and it was freezing. The server said she was going to call the boss about the heater later on. Unfortunately.. I wasn't going to be there later on. She also tried to give us ice water... which is fine, but it was freezing in there so I asked for hot water and kept the cup between my legs to stay warm. We ordered our classic combo. We didn't eat all day and we were so hungry. I asked for extra meat in my Jjajangmyeon. It sucks that I think this is my mistake a second time.. but the dish came out brown and really watery. I thought it looked strange but it was 24 hours since I ate. I was starving. I just ate it and this is where I was disappointed and wanted to say something. The flavor was gone! It was tasted so bland. And the extra meat wasn't tender as it once was. I had to tear it with my teeth. The food court at the Korean market is about $12 in Sacramento but I never get it because I want this one. I was hoping to get the good stuff here. I regrettably ate my dish and left.. normally I take home the extra sauce to eat with rice at home but not this time. You can see in the new photos that there is extra meat, but it wasn't the tender pieces it once had. And the brown watery consistency it has compared to the first time I had it. Not to mention I keep expecting udon noodles as stated on the menu but keep getting a different kind. Which isn't a deal breaker for me, however, it just added to the confusion and consistency issue I'm having. I really wanted to continue to support this business... I like hope they fix their consistency and ambience in the future. For me it's not worth the price. I think I'll just order from the food court now on instead of taking a detour on my long drives. I'm sorry I'm complaining and for this bad review. But I was so proud of this establishment when I found it and now I'm on the way home feeling sad about it. read more

Being a Korean descent, my bar for Korean food is high. I've been disappointed with Korean restaurants in Reno but I was surprised to find the Beef Tofu Soup I ordered was actually good! We very excitedly tried this new spot after being so thrilled to see something go in here! It's a great location and is easily accessible in a shopping center, so parking is easy. The decor is very thoughtful and peaceful inside, and has a cute charm. The service was incredible: friendly, helpful and fast. We never had to flag anyone down for anything, which is so refreshing. It was a busy Saturday night and they were staffed for it. Menu is served with pictures which is helpful if Korean cuisine is new to you. They let us know the kimchi is made in-house daily, which is also refreshing because not many spots in town say YES to that question. We tried a few spicy pork, bulgogi and bibimbap bowls along with the corn cheese tots and the banchan was refilled multiple times (thank you kindly)! Don't sleep on the kale banchan, I wanted an entire bowl of that by itself to be honest. I can't wait to go back and I already know what I look forward to ordering next time! Give them a try. Mmmm bap.. STEP is the closest thing to Bay Area Korean taste, and it's really close. At first the small menu is a let down if you're used to traditional large Korean menus, however, after trying many dishes from a dozen times or so I can say that the smaller menu allows them to fine tune everything on the menu. I've been begging for another Korean restaurant in town so I was really excited to see this open up! The ambiance and decor are definitely top notch. I love the slat walls, soju wall, and garden logo. It resembles a similar restaurant I go to in Sacramento. Food wise, I'm hoping for growth progression. They were out of the kimchi udon, soft tofu soup, salmon sashimi, cocktails, desserts, as well as other items- so that was a bit of a let down. I was surprised and saddened to see that there wasn't any tteokbokki and steamed egg on the menu. With the vibe of the restaurant, I feel like these staple dishes could easily be elevated to fit the menu. The service was alright, a bit slow at first- but picked up after we got our entrees. And we were greeted by I believe the manager towards the end of our dining experience? He didn't introduce himself, but just asked how the food was. My partner and I ordered the Japchae, Jjambbong udon, and the Korean fried chicken in each flavor variation. The japchae was the sweetest one I've had- but it still is very good! The udons broth had a good depth and amount of seafood. We were surprised to see that the fried chicken was boneless (as it's not specified on the menu), but the flavor profiles were tasty. Easily our favorite item of the night- just wish there was more crunch to it. Overall a decent experience. Definitely will return in attempt to try the dishes we wanted this time, but nonetheless still stoked we have another source for Korean food! read more

The prices are reasonable for the area too. The best definitely has to be the JJIM signature dishes, I got to try the Braised Chicken (be careful the mild is still spicy). I also loved the Korean Fried Chicken (sweet & spicy) and the Corn Cheese Tots! The Korean Ceviche was supeeer refreshing, and the chef came by to let me know to mix in the pickled veggies on top to get all the flavors. The Chef, also the owner and creator of Step, talked with us for a bit and told us the meaning behind Step was to create a place for people to eat and recharge to get the energy they need to take the next step in their life or their path. We've been coming here since just after their opening. It's one of our favorite places in Reno/Sparks. The food, the atmosphere, and the service has always been amazing. It's so good, we've been back a number of time, even bringing friends and family, including visitors from out of town. Where to begin... this was my first time at Step and it will most certainly not be my last! Right when you walk in you are not only greeted by the hostess but also the clean crisp lines and decor. Now, sit back and let me tell you about the food... (I'm salivating thinking about it as I write this). For our beverage we had a Green Grape Soju and the Red Original Soju. Yes these are alcoholic beverages but they are so incredibly smooth both being able to stand on their own with a soft mild flavor. After we placed our order the waitress came out with these little dishes. One was a leafy green with a small amount of vinaigrette over it, next was pickled daikon radish and then there was the kimchi. Now I personally am not a fan of kimchi but this changed my mind! It was not super spicy and the cabbage still had a slight crunch. She also placed this other dish that was some sort of radish cut into cubes that had been pickled in the juices of the kimchi. All of these perfectly balanced the delectable food below. We started off with the Korean Fried Chicken with the flavor choice of Sweet & Spicy- (the picture of this does not do it justice) these are fairly large pieces with the perfect amount of crunch that went well with the texture of the chicken. The sauce is perfectly coating them, sensually hitting your pallet with the right amount of sweet and mild heat. This is not like the Thai sweet chili sauce. It's a far better! I had the Korean Braised Pork Ribs (mild) and my brother had Hot Pot Bibimbap. The Braised Ribs were nicely paired with carrots, potatoes and rice cakes. It also came with a side of rice. Oooh my gosh! The flavor of the ribs was quite delightful. The veg and rice cakes were able to still have their own flavors but it was most certainly amplified by the braise! The Hot Pot came with a side of miso soup that had a comforting smokiness. He was kind enough to let me have a bite and I know what I'm getting no the next time! It came in this beautiful hot stone bowl. The veggie nested on top of the rice with a perfectly cooked runny yolk egg on top. It came with its own sauce that you mix in. Im not sure what kind of sauce this is but it's impeccable! This would be a great place to go for a date or even a business lunch/dinner. I'm deterred to try everything on the menu so welcome to the Step Korean Bistro series! read more
