    Baked Clams
    Mackel E.

Long time listener, first time caller. I've heard of Stephen's On State for years, but other than stopping in for a quick drink before a show at Media Theatre, I've never really knew what they had to offer. That changed the other night. Ambiance: Nice old school/ new school steakhouse vibe - just a bit brighter. Service: Excellent. Waitress and waitstaff were friendly, helpful, and attentive. They all seemed to work very well together and it made for a great experience. Items came out hot, promptly removed when we finished, and we had everything we wanted when we needed it. A+ Food: Baked clams were hot and fresh, but they fell flat. Even after adding salt, they just didn't hit the mark. A good baked clam highlights the clam, but surrounds it with simple flavor. Not bad by any means, but I get BCs a lot, and these didn't really rank. Ahi Tuna App: OK. Cold, but was more pink than red. Seaweed salad was lacking. Lacked overall flavor all around, just ok. C+ Seafood Fra Diavolo: Excellent! Fresh clams, mussels, shrimp, crab, and a flavor-packed sauce that was well-seasoned, bright, and had the perfect amount of kick - well, we added a bit more. The pasta was delicious and everything came out piping hot and had a nice brothy sauce with a nice amount if tomato texture. Well done - not everyone gets this right, but it's great when a steakhouse delivers a quality pasta dish. Spice Crusted NY Strip: Highly recommended by our waitress and she was right. This was a higj-quality cut, seasoned and spiced well, cooked a perfect medium-rare, and the shallot butter was amazing. This is what you want in a NY strip. Green beans were great, and mashed were ok. Yo - a delicious steak! Bananas Foster: who can't love a tableside dessert like this. Great entertainment value and despite being pretty full, we finished every last bite. Minor complaint - special was $14, we were charged regular price at $16. State Street Smoked Old Fashioned: I'm an Old Fashioned connoisseur, and this unfortunately missed the mark. Every steakhouse needs to have a kick-ass OF, this was not. It was bright red like HiC and as the institution's first cocktail listed, they should consider revamping this recipe - my $.02. It lacks the key characteristics of this classic cocktail. It did not get drank. I didn't say anything and I'm sure they would have made something else, that's just not me. We ended the night in the bar area listening to a cool band to a packed and lively bar. Overall, a really great experience and we'll be back.

Caesar salad - delicious. Rating 5/5 Baked clams (well done)- out of this world. Rating 5/5. Ribeye steak topped with Gorgonzola. I ordered the steak medium it was well. I didn't send it back as it was the end of the night. Last time I was here I sent back because it was well also. The meat quality is great and next time I come I think I'll just order it medium rare to be safe. The green beans and mashed potatoes that came with the meal did not seem fresh. Rating: 3/5 The brussel sprouts were the best I have ever had at Stephen's. Rating 5/5 Chilean Seabass - delicious absolute perfection. Rating 5/5 I come here at least twice a month. Lately it has not been consistent with my main course. Service and quality is always stellar.

Have been going here for years but lately it seems to be in decline. The bartenders on a Friday seem disinterested and after working in this industry for years maybe Im too detail oriented. Pouring a draft beer is a pretty simple skill I thought (see attached pic). Im wondering if maybe they were effected by the power failure as the beer was not really cold and also kinda flat. We ordered an app and we both thought it tasted "off" so we didnt eat it other than 1 bite each. In my experience when a customer doesnt really touch their food u might wanna inquire why........ Again kinda disinterested attitude. Too many choices on State street to not be concerned as an owner/mgr but that just my opinion. We will tty Brick n Brew next time as they seem to have great energy.

I am not too sure why Stephen's has such low reviews. I have been here 4 or 5 times to sit down at the restaurant portion of it and always had such a pleasant experience. Me and my friend like to order a bunch of things 3/4 appetizers a few entrees a few drinks and a few desserts every time we go. Every time everything was exceptional. I thought the food is excellent. Presentation of the food is great. One time I got an order to go and it wasn't ready but that doesn't have anything to do with the food.

Went here with a friend before a show. Great service. Salmon was a hair overcooked, but really nice Parmesan risotto. The potato gnocchi she had was my favorite dish.

Special Wednesday addition of drinks and cheesesteaks with Amigo Dan. We got the Prime Rib sandwich. This is the tale of 2 sandwiches. Amigo Dan got most of the onions and horseradish aioli. I think the meat was dry. It had a good amount of cheese. I was hoping for a much better sandwich. I did like that it was $13 and came with french fries.

I dined here on a summer Wednesday night for "Dining under the Stars" - the atmosphere was awesome. The group that I dined with intended to eat at another restaurant originally but when we learned what the wait time was for our original option, we wandered into this place. We were seated immediately. The menu selection was fair - I was a little undecided about what I wanted for an entree so I ordered the Stephen Chicken, which came with chicken, shrimp, mashed potatoes and spinach. The dish was so bland; I was able to send it back and order the Penne a la Vodka, which pretty good. 3 others in my party did not like their food. Also, service was slow in this night (perhaps it was due to "Dining under the Stars"? I don't know but it just bad. Our waitress was nice too.

My family decided last minute to head to Stephens on State for dinner. It wasn't hard to find parking right in front of the restaurant but don't always expect that to be the case. We were seated fairly quickly for a party of 6 and we sat in a semi private area which was really nice. Our server came over to take our drink and appetizer orders and provide some suggestions. Overall the meal was pretty good. I was very happy with what I ordered as was the rest of the table. Nothing really blew us away but it was great quality at great prices.

To be fair this rating is for a 'dining under the stars' night - but then again if a restaurant participates they should be able to give it their best. The staff was great. The scallop appetizer was very very good. The salmon and shrimp was pretty good. The chicken and shrimp dish was meh - good sauce, overcooked chicken and shrimp that wasn't special. Both cocktails were very good. I vacillated between a 3 and 4 rating and went with 4 because it was a very busy night and the apps and drinks were so good. Prices were appropriate or maybe a little high.

We were semi-self service in the restaurant because it was only 1 person working in the front. I felt really bad for him. He took sometime to order and brought the food out. Nevertheless the food was good. The mussels were flavorful. The sauce was white-wine base. Very unique. It came with the garlic bread on the side. I highly recommend to try. The wings are tender and juicy inside, good texture, not dry. Many tables and seats inside. Bathroom is ok. Street parking. Overall a good place to watch sports and get rowdy with tasty food.

Tap 24 was the one that had dining area right in front of the entrance with huge large glass window, so we were able to enjoy the beautiful summer day while dining. The dining space was not as big as regular restaurants, few tables in front for larger groups and smaller ones were further inside across the bar. The bar huge though where most people hung out. They also had a game viewing area in the back. But though out the place there were several TVs that had the game on. The menu had plenty of popular American style dishes. I got to try the chicken wings and mussels for appetizers. Both were excellent. My friends loved their sandwiches and salmon dishes as well. All the dishes were served within a short wait time. The bartender was serving our table as well. He did really good job. We had a wonderful time hanging out with everyone while dining and watching the game.

We got seated right behind the live music and I'm so glad we asked to move since we got the cozy fireplace table and there's no way we could have heard eachother otherwise. The chairs were weirdly uncomfortable and seemed a mix of styles. When everything else called to be cozy that was an odd misstep in a cold winter night. They were out of a handful of things but they did have a super extra special menu to try. We had to sample the mashed potato balls but honestly they were dense and dry without a lot of flavor. If you mixed with the sauce they were ok but don't really recommend. The stews were amazing, and the shepherds pie will absolutely take you back to the island, and huge portions. The yak burger really tasted great but it was one of those "too huge to fit" type of burgers so be aware. The desserts really weren't inspiring so we skipped. This is very popular and the bar area was totally packed when we headed out. I'd say worth going but ask for where you want to sit and be prepared to just take awhile.

A live guitarist was setting up for the evening in the space between the two rooms. He started playing just after we were seated, and it was a bit loud from the proximity, but a member of our party asked if we could move. After checking with the hostess, we were whisked away to a cozier table by the room's fireplace. Given the cold weather, it was quite nice. That table also had some more comfortable seats, so I'm glad they could accommodate the switch. Our server was quite personable, and took good care of us as we ordered drinks and waited for the rest of our group. She did need to check on some menu items and they had some sold our dishes, but there were plenty of options still. When the food came, one of our entrees had a small mix up, but it was resolved before the rest of our food made it out. My shepherd's pie filling was deliciously rich. The mashed potatoes on top were broiled to crispy perfection. I didn't love the bread on the side, but I had more than enough pie to fill me up. Overall, I'd love to go back and try some other menu options.

I'm grateful that Sterling Pig has the taste and integrity to serve real potato French fries. I've stopped buying fries most places because it's all reconstituted junk anymore, but Sterling Pig's are legit. Thank you! Pulled pork is well rendered with expected flavor and is just simple and satisfying as it should be; grilled meat. No hint of a water bath or any of the cockamamie things some cooks can do to pork meat. Not super smokey but it doesn't need to be, and it doesn't need sauce either which means it's good meat to eat alone. Brisket had all the desired flavor but loads of fat. I don't like paying for gristle and fat when I pay by the pound. Otherwise, they are one of the few places up here who can get flavor right.
