We called Stephens because they are a "fave" on Nextdoor, but we had to do repeated follow up to get someone to show up, they seemed to not know when he would show up or where he was for a long time, and then they gave us a verbal quote and took weeks to follow up, we actually thought they had gone AWOL on us. My impression, and I could be wrong, is that they are just farming jobs out to plumbers, based on the lack of communication and knowledge about the job between dispatch and the technician. There was nothing wrong with the technician who came out, we just don't feel comfortable with the company as a whole. If someone is scheduling a job and you ask a question about it and they know nothing about what's going to be done and you only have a verbal quote, it doesn't feel right, how do you know what to expect, or even if it will fix the issue since there's no actual diagnosis ? I guess I'm just old fashioned that way. We ended up not using them. It's very frustrating because it was a lot of wasted time and effort on everyone's part. If something doesn't feel right, I have to trust that feeling, otherwise I feel like our hard earned money is going to fly out of the door with nothing to show for it!! read more

Our Mitsubishi mini split had a funky smell coming from it. So, I called the manufacturer and was referred to Stephen's Plumbing. Within 24 hours they sent a technician. We got an hour notice before the technician arrived and when the technician came--much appreciated. He also wore booties before stepping foot inside--very much appreciated (cleanliness thing in Asian households)! PONCHO was our technician and he explained how our system worked and how to maintain it in the future. We are very happy with his services. We purchased a new ac/heating unit through Stephens Plumbing, Heating and A/C. Freddy & Joey were the technicians that came out this morning to install the units. They arrived between the scheduled time. The job was discussed and they took off running. All their equipment, drop cloths, materials were laid out and they began removing the old equipment. Had a new furnace installed to replace an older one that kept needing repairs every winter and was delighted with the service by Stephens. I really give the installers, Freddy and Trevor, points for a very speedy installation. They finished in about 2 and a half hours when the receptionists told me it would be an all-day job. Also, I was happy with the politeness and courtesy from the installers, they listened to my requests and were very accommodating. However, I must take away points for the horrible job they did in patching up the hole left in the living room wall after they replaced the thermostat. I had to tell them to patch it, otherwise they would have done nothing. They used clear sealant so afterwards the hole was still very visible and stuck out, plus they didn't fill it completely so I can still feel the hole there. read more

Just completed and job request through Yelp projects. The plumbing company I went with was Stephens. Galan and Joey are the plumbers that made it out. We went right into discussing the issue with kitchen sink backing up when the washing machine ran. Galan was patient and allowed me to share what I knew and then he filled the gaps and went further into detail. Galan jumped right in and looked at my drain problem from end to end and began to brake it down. After that I accepted the offer to run a 50 feet of snake. The guys went straight to work putting down drop clothes and filling me in every step of the way. After it was snaked we tested the kitchen sink with a large load of water from the washer and the kitchen sink did not backup and only made two sounds. A big improvement from before. Galan is knowledgeable and suggested further improvements that I may need. Great people to have do work for you at a good price. Galan and Joey nailed it on this one. Beware: I question the honesty of one of their technicians. My tenant notified me that condensation was leaking-in through the AC ducts. I called Stephen's and scheduled a service call. On the day of the service call, the technician Rob, called me and told me that the unit was not working and was completely out of refrigerant. He stated that a leak check would take at least half a day and that I may need to replace the unit. He called me as I was on my way to the building and told me that it would be $2000 for the leak check & repair for a half-day, or $2900 for a full day. I told him to send me the estimate including replacement cost. At the building, I spoke to my tenant. I asked her why she didn't tell me that the unit wasn't working. Flustered, she told me that the unit was working fine the day prior and that she had turned it off at the end of the day. She had not turned the unit on until requested by the technician. She had notified the technician of the condensation issue and he went on the roof by himself to check the unit. He then called her to tell her to turn off the unit and never returned. I told her that I would check to see if the unit was working or not. I went up on the roof and immediately saw a hole in the front of the unit where someone had driven a sharp object into the coil (see attached photo). I went back and informed my tenant of the issue. I then drove to Stephen's. At Stephen's I was met by Rob who repeated his story. I asked him why he thought there would be refrigerant in the system when there was a gaping hole in the coil. He denied knowing anything about the hole. I asked to speak to his manager. I spoke to Ryan Stephens, the owner's son. I explained my side of the story and showed him the photo. He took the technician's side. He refused to accept that the technician could have done that, asking, "Why would he?" Maybe he wanted to rack-up a full day's work on the repair or get brownie points for initiating the sale of a new unit, all under the assumption that I wasn't going to go on the roof to look at it myself. Rob claimed that my tenant told him that the unit wasn't working. We called her on speakerphone, and quite disturbed, she repeated what she had told me. My tenant has a strong accent so Rob claimed that he misunderstood her. We went back and forth and Ryan was defensive, saying the unit could have been like this for months (it wasn't, they were up there a week-or-so prior to replace a fuse) and why would his tech have done this as they have plenty of work and don't need mine. He told me that the service call said nothing about the condensation issue and only stated: AC not working. I asked him for a copy of the service call ticket and told him that I would speak to his father, the owner. After leaving, I noticed that the service call ticket was not mine. I returned to Stephen's and found the owner, Gary Stephens, there. I politely introduced myself and without trying to point too many fingers, I gave him my side of the story. Although Rob kept interrupting, I made it a point to observe that a good technician, including Mr. Stephens, would have done a visual inspection prior to connecting any test equipment to the unit. I also pointed out that the hole was clearly visible when approaching the unit from the roof access. Rob denied seeing the hole. Rob claimed that he had my tenant turn the AC on, and that he could hear the compressor start-up from inside the downstairs unit. He said that he then went on the roof, connected his gauges and found that the system was completely out of refrigerant. I asked: why would the compressor run if the unit was out of refrigerant. Wouldn't the low pressure sensor detect this and prevent the compressor for starting up? They quickly stated that the unit was old and the sensor could be faulty. Gary also denied any wrongdoing and reiterated that his company did not work that way and did not need any additional business. I told him that I just wanted to make him aware of the situation because it was extremely suspicious, I now have to get a more serious repair done, and I will be going elsewhere. I asked for a copy of my service call ticket. Ryan brought it to me, quickly pointing out that it also stated: AC not working. However, he had more than enough time to write-up a new ticket. Bottom line: without a 40' ladder it's impossible to get on my roof from the street (wasn't a vandal), my tenants have no incentive to destroy AC units (increased rent, downtime), the AC was working fine the day before, and Rob was the only one on the roof prior to me discovering the damage. My family was a Stephen's customer for many years. I'm sorry to say that I believe that they can no longer be trusted and that they have lost a customer. read more
