The waitress argued that it was not valid for our meal, which wouldn't have been as disappointing if the food wasn't so awful. The salad was only croutons and lettuce. The potatoes tasted like box potatoes, the pasta came out like a soup, garlic bread was served at the end of the meal which made no sense. Nothing was seasoned or had flavor. They cut just about every corner possible and the restaurant didn't feel clean. Seems like their breakfast has good reviews, but given our experience we won't be back to try. Had breakfast with my son today, but I pretty much have mixed feelings about this place. They gave my son a adult menu, so I asked for a kids menu. I was told they were out of kids menus, and for me to let them know what my son wanted and they would make it in "kids size". Well okayyyyy, I said he'll take a single pancake and 1 egg, is this on the kids menu? And I was told "sure". Well okayyyyy, again. She had the braised pork chops...two come in the order. She really enjoyed them. I had the rib eye steak special. Let me tell you how good everything was. The steak was perfectly cooked - medium. The veggies (broccoli and carrots) were perfect, not too soft, not too crisp. The baked potato was spot on. Green salad was cold, crisp and they have the good ranch dressing. The portions are large and delicious. We weren't out to the car before we both said we are coming back to try out the breakfasts on Monday. My mouth is watering imagining the home fries! Our waitress was always checking on us and making sure my coffee was topped off. My fiancee and I went for the breakfast specials (her: chicken fried steak, me: New York steak), which came with eggs, hash browns or country potatoes, and bread. The plates were $7.99 a piece, but you had to be there before 9am to get it, which we were. That's a great deal for breakfast. My steak was perfectly cooked medium rare, and her chicken fried steak was tasty. The coffee was good, too. Tried the Sterling Cafe in Lincoln today for breakfast. I had driven by the place a number of times and was curious. This is a basic little cafe, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Yes, they serve both wine and beer (but, this morning, it was early for me). Friendly staff......I received a big good morning when I arrived. The waitress promptly seated me and brought coffee. I doubled down with both coffee and an ice tea. The menu was pretty extensive and included everything from crepes to steaks & pork chops to seafood. Since it was breakfast time, I order a medium rare rib eye, over easy eggs and hash browns. Normally, I like my steaks more to the rare side but have learned overtime that breakfast steaks can be on the tough side and are generally better if broiled a little more done. I was served quickly and the food looked appetizing. The lady brought me a fairly large piece of beef (more than I needed) and surprising tender and flavorful - good eating. A couple of weeks ago I was having breakfast at Sterling Cafe, my wife and I eat there at least once a week. I witnessed the worst thing I have ever seen at any restaurant. I watched the server who is also the owners wife, literally throw the plates on the table of this older couple liked she was pissed off , you could tell she was mad about something. I could see that the customers were startled. A little while later Marianne the other server came by asking if everything was ok, and the couple told Marianne what had happend at I backed then on it. I didn't give them one star for the food that's 5 star, I gave them a 1 because of the owners wife. She is the worst she forgets about you and your lucky to get a refill on your coffee. always ask for Marianne she's the best. There are a couple of good waitresses here, but most of the time the service tends to not be that good. I've been noticing lately that every time we come here there's always customers complaining about something. My biggest issue at Sterling is the ridiculously high prices.
