I'd been coming to this steakhouse for years, but hadn't been for a while; boy was it not worth it this time around. Very disappointing. I had a 10:30pm reservation; I and other with reservations had to wait 10-15mins to be seated. The hostess said they were short-staffed. Note: I was one person. I finally opted to sit at the bar just to be able to finally eat. My "waitress" (a bartender) seemed to not understand steak, as she tried to convince me that a NY strip was a ribeye steak (note that these were two different items on the menu, as well). I ordered my steak and asked if I wanted a side; I said I might get one later if I was still hungry. She told me that I'd have to order everything at once, as the kitchen was busy, so apparently there was no way for me to order additional food later, which made no sense to me. I asked about the size of the sides (they cost $19, a la carte; nothing comes with the steak itself) and the server said they were pretty big and sized to feed 2 people. I ordered a side dish, so as not to "lose my chance" at it. I wait an incredibly long time for my food (30-40 mins for a medium 14oz steak & side of Brussel sprouts) to the point that I checked with the server about my order and she said the kitchen was backed up. My food finally arrived; the steak was fine (3.5 out of 5) and the Brussel sprouts were very tasty; however, the Brussel sprout side was in a small 6-in diameter iron skillet. I asked the server WTF with this tiny side when she said it served 2, and that I'd been thinking that I'd have enough to take home; she just said "well, it serves 1 to 2...that's Chicago pricing for you, it's expensive; I wouldn't eat here." I was just like...wow. I asked if I could "return" it, because it was so much smaller than I'd thought it would be; she said no, so I was stuck with it. At least it tasted good, but really bittersweet because of the hefty price tag and less than what I was expecting. Total bill: $98+ for a 14oz strip steak (not ribeye!) + Brussel sprouts + water. I arrived at 10:20pm and left after midnight (over 1.5 hours to get seated & served at the bar!). Utter time sink; very disappointing overall. There are many steakhouses in Chicago that provide a better experience! Likely not returning to STK after this. read more

Not terribly crowded for a Friday night, either in the bar or the dining area. What a contrast from Sienna Tavern up the block, which was nearly three deep at the bar. I got sticker shock when I ordered a glass of the house white which ended up ringing in at $15. Later on, I asked the bartender for a closer look at the bottle and he admitted it was a wine that would probably retail for $15 a bottle. Holy markup! That minor hiccup aside, the experience was soothing and the other patrons were civilized, which is all one can really ask for on a Friday night roaming around the various River North bars. Gwen Stefani was playing, which made this girl a happy camper. I'm not sure how this place manages to stay afloat, but maybe it gets more action-packed later at night. read more

I came here Thursday night with clients. It was really good- food was delicious and service was great (Hillary was awesome!). The steak itself was great- on par with Mastro's IMO. The sides left me wanting a little bit more- maybe it's what we ordered but there were almost no veggie options that weren't more cream than actual vegetables. So, my husband, son and I visited this restaurant for brunch. First off, the hostess Erica was absolutely AMAZING! She was professional, accommodating, personable and super personable! Sometimes at restaurants you receive the bare minimum service, but Erica was absolutely exceptional. Give that great employee a raise and promotion! All of the food was simply amazing. I had the 6oz filet with crab topping, creamed spinach, Yukon mashed potatoes, martini. The filet was cooked to the requested temperature and was very tender. The potatoes were very good. The spinach was way over salted. When i pay $9 for a side, i expect it to be near perfect. The DJ played a mix of old a new music. The music was VERY loud to the point we couldn't hear one another. The martini was $16... Over the top stupid expensive. The crab topping was $10 - for 2 bites. All in all the meal was decent but not worth the $120 I paid. I don't plan to ever go back. Never have I been to a restaurant that figuratively and literally left a bad taste in my mouth! Our reservation was 845pm and we did not get seated until 1020. Even after the hour and half wait they tried to stick our party of 5 guys in a four person booth! The hostesses were unattentive, unapologetic, and basically incompetent. The GM for the night came to our new table and listened to our experience and gave a pathetic "sorry" and we never saw her again. The calamari was the soggiest sh#t I have had EVER and their signature rolls were hard as day old bread that was microwaved too long. We ordered our steak medium rare and the piece I got was not even warm to the touch and rare without any blood on the plate. This tells me they pulled our a frozen steak and didn't even cook it to temperature!! This is NOT a steakhouse. I guess i should have known from the name...can't spell steak right, can't cook it right! This was my first and last time coming here. Complete and utter waste of time and money! read more

STK steakhouse ruined everyone's Valentine's Day for being extremely greedy overbooking with $200 nonrefundable prepayment and making people wait for their tables in the cold freezing for more than an hour or two post their reservation times. Their staff neglected complaints and were terribly rude! Our reservation was at 6:15 pm, we got there at 6pm and they let us check in around 6:30pm. Then, they made us wait for an hour in the cold by then we decided to leave. Interestingly, we checked our phones but they NEVER texted us to let us know our table is ready. The tent area outside where they had reserved us for looked ridiculous. They started funneling people into a tent outside. 7 pm we finally got in. We were left outside to freeze for an hour. Came to STK for Valentine's Day and it was the best Valentines Day I've ever had with my girlfriend. We were greeted by the hostess with a smile and a rose for her. It was a perfect way to start the night. Once we sat down out waiter Bill was right there to greet us. He was THE most personal, professional, and well studied waiter I've ever had in Chicago. He walked us through the menu like he wrote it himself. There was never a time that I had to ask for a single thing. It was like they were reading my mind. I got the 10oz filet and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. The head chef even came out to ask how it was. 5 star experience on the dinner. We liked the ambiance so much we decided to go to the bar with a night cap. We met one of the bartenders Dontaine and just as I suspected - he was just as personal and professional as Bill. Our jaw dropped on ever single drink that he made us. We couldn't believe the drinks he made us were real. There was never a time that we were waiting for a drink even though it was slammed for Valentine's Day. He really cares about even single ounce that he pours. He kept checking in to make sure we were having an excellent experience. We had such a good experience because of this night that I booked another reservation for tomorrow with a group of 5 and will be brining all of my customers and clients here moving forward. read more

This steak house is amazing! Their seafood is just perfection and the sides are delicious. I started with a dozen oysters. They were fresh and briney just the way I like them. For the main course I had the lobster Rockefeller. It was so delicious that I wanted to eat the lobster shell. I would come back just for this insanely delicious lobster. So succulent and creamy, melts in your mouth like butter. As the sides I ordered the truffle fries and the brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were charred and had a caramelized sauce - just wow! The truffle fries were oozing with that truffle taste - yum. Will be back here for sure. read more

My girlfriend and I checked out STK because they were offering a 1000 point bonus on OpenTable for a reservation on Monday at 7:15pm. The interior decoration and atmosphere definitely deserve a 5 star rating because it looks like a really nice club and is extremely modern and stellar. Although the atmosphere and interior decorations were superb, the food was overpriced and lacked a lot of flavor. I was glad that the hostess was able to get the Gf and I a booth. The booths are extremely comfortable and provide a good amount of privacy. In regards to the food, we only ordered two entrees, which were the small loin strip 10 oz and the pork chop. I requested the small loin strip to be medium well and the entrees we ordered literally took them forever to make. Luckily, they provide you with a complementary and savory loaf of bread and butter while you wait for your entrees. After waiting over half an hour, our entrees finally came and the small loin strip was extremely overcooked. I cut a slice of it and all I tasted was severely charred meat. As a result, we requested that the waiter ask the chef to remake the loin strip because it was pretty much inedible. The waiter seemed extremely displeased and gave a lot of attitude about making the chef remake the loin strip. Honestly, I thought our waiter was unprofessional and did not care much about the patrons' needs. After waiting another 15 minutes for them to remake the loin strip, we cut into the strip and it was not overcooked and slightly tender. The loin strip was decent after they remade it, but if I am going to pay that much money for a mediocre strip, I would rather go to a local BBQ restaurant. The pork chops were slightly better, but they were also dry and hard to chew. However, the saving grace for the pork chops was the squash and apple sauce. the sauce was filled with flavor and complemented the dry pork chops quite well. Overall, if you decide to check this place out, make sure you just get a drink or something light because this place is way too overpriced for the poor quality of food that they serve. The interior atmosphere is pretty much perfect, but the food quality and execution could use lots of improvement. read more

Had to wait in a freezing non socially distant tent for over an HOUR. My immediate impulse was to just leave, but my $200 reservation was non refundable. I love coming to STK because it's like dining in a club. The drinks, food and service I've received here is always stellar. 4 stars for STK! On this past dining experience our server Hugo was funny, gave excellent recommendations on the drinks and actually seemed excited to take our group picture. Hugo gets 5 stars for sure. The bartenders at STK make drinks that will have your eyes crossed, your speech slurred and your legs feeling like jello...aka they make some strong drinks. My favorites were Apple Bottom (with red wine) and Cucumber Stiletto (substitute the Ketel One for Patron). Both drinks get 5 stars. The food was decent, but we had ordered the filet to be cooked medium rare and it had came out well done. We mentioned this to our server and she had said she believed us but still asked us to cut the steak and brought a light to it just to say that the steak was cooked medium rare but in reality it was not. The ambiance was great until the DJ at the booth in the middle of the dining floor started playing random genres and songs. The food was meh. Steak didn't impress like other Chicago steakhouses.
