Just happened to stop by here during a July 4th week in Bryce Canyon and couldnt agree with the other reviews more, this was an excellent little gem of a place. The service was great and everyone was attentive even though I think we were the last customers in. The four of us ordered the house made bread, prawns, ribeye steak, and several dessert items. The house made bread was pretty good, but the butter was the thing that made it really shine. I would say it was a bit overpriced at $6 for 4 slices of bread. The prawns were tasty but I'm not sure if I would say it was worth it for 4 prawns. The steaks were delicious and a generous size. We got the tarragon butter and chimmichuri on the side and felt both were delicious options, you really couldn't go wrong. For dessert we got the vanilla ice cream ($3) and the vanilla cheesecake with Blueberry compote ($10). Both were good, but I wished the cheesecake was a bit more tarte. If I had to choose between the two I would say the ice cream was more worth it for the $. read more

Driving to the restaurant was suspicious as you drive up dark dirt trails to the restaurant. Just follow the GPS and you will eventually get there. The location is in the middle of nature and makes for incredible views and an outstanding environment. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We started off with the house bread (delicious with the house butter) and the prawns (also very delicious). I ordered the 14 oz ribeye steak with chimichurri sauce on the side. Everything on the plate was excellent! It was so good I forced myself to finish it. The last thing I ordered was the vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and that was the perfect finish to this incredible journey. Great ambience. Beautiful restaurant. A little difficult to find in the dark and if you want to eat earlier than 8 make arrangements the day prior. Fine dining. Cannot emphasize e this enough. The food is high end - well prepared and the price reflects this. Also - expect to pay for each item separately. Bread, salad, entree, sides. Beer and wine available. Beer and wine are reasonably priced. Due to pricing we decided to do appetizers and drinks which ran us about $50.00 (my husband had water and I had beer). We are also light eaters so it worked ok for us. If fine dining is your thing this is a wonderful restaurant with a great feel and nice food. read more

If you're coming in from a long day of hiking around Bryce Canyon, you need to finish the day at Stone Hearth Grille. It's about a 15 minute drive from the park entrance, and entirely worth it. You can even swing by the Mossy Cave on your way out. Let's get into it. This place is nice. Not like "oh, isn't that nice," but like "NICE." So change out of your hiking shirt and put on that plaid button up, or better yet...bring a sweater, keep it in the car, and put it on before you go in. The ambiance isn't here for your sweaty and dusty shorts and shoes. Like others have said, the views from anywhere in the restaurant but especially the patio make this a great place for a romantic dinner. Staff were all very accommodating, and managed to fit us in without reservations. But it felt like a gamble, so we'll have reservations in the future. Jesus was our server and was awesome. He explained different ingredients to us, and made sure that we were well-stocked on house-made potato chips and bread. He also made a great wine recommendation! For vegan/plant-based diners, this is a real treat. The vegan options are noted on the menu, but also included on the menu...it's not a separate vegan menu. I love this, because it's INCLUSIVE and inviting to all...try the beets, even if you're not vegan! You'll be psyched? Why? Because amazing and well-prepared food is for everybody. That's why. When we were here, the vegan entree was the poblano relleno, and it was KILLER. The vegan desert was a strawberry rhubarb crumble that, when served with some coconut ice-cream, will make you contemplate all of the things that you have done with your life to end up here. Very poor customer service. Don't count on a reservation despite 2 confirmations. This establishment came across as very non-empathetic that they lost our reservation. I wouldn't count on good service if you actually get a table. They lost out reservation and acted as if it was our fault. They didn't try to accommodate us despite the fact that nobody else was waiting for a table with only one other table was seated. I certainly didn't expect to find a fine-dining experience in small-town Tropic, UT, but wow! My wife and I enjoyed a lovely dinner as the perfect end to a mind blowing day in Bryce Canyon. From the moment we entered, we were treated to a friendly welcome and attentive service. And the food, oh the food.... Perfectly prepared, exquisitely plated, and incredibly delicious. Starting with the bread (which is a menu item, not just delivered to the table, but just do it, it's worth it), and moving on to the coconut chicken, the citrus roasted carrot salad, and the grilled halibut, we thoroughly enjoyed every choice. Ideally, I would have given a 3.5/5 if I could, but I'll go with 4/5 because of the desserts.. We were only staying in Bryce for one night. I have been to Bryce before and have eaten at most of the restaurants, so I decided to switch it up a bit since I am road tripping with my mom who is visiting from overseas. I called in advance to make a reservation and luckily they could still accommodate us. Upon arrival, you immediately see that this is a small, intimate venue with limited space and sadly also staff. There was a line waiting to be seated. Once seated, we did straight away receive water, but then it took a while before the waitress popped by to take our main order. Conversation was limited to the bare essentials as most tables were full and there aren't enough waiters in my opinion. No small talk of any kind was had during the whole night, which is a shame since you know that most people are visitors. You just feel like a number, even though it's such a small place. The food itself was overall good, especially the desserts. For my main course, I had the ribeye which was rather fatty but tasted good. My mom had the trout, which actually looked a lot better than my meat cut (even though meats are supposed to be their speciality..). For dessert we had the chocolate mousse and rhubarb crumble. They tasted amazing! Overall a pricey spot, but we did enjoy our food. Just a shame that they don't invest more time into their customers.. read more

First the good was very good. I love French Onion soup and theirs was very good. Had the NY strip and shrimp. Had their mash potatoes which were very good. Wife wanted bake potato but not an option. The challenge was getting there, especially in a 32' motor home. It is way off the beaten path. Way off the beaten path. But a beautiful place. It is a resort with bungalows. Looked very nice. If you're in the area visiting Bryce Canyon National Park, treat yourself at the Stone Hearth Grille. Yes, it's more expensive than other options in the area but it's well worth it! The service was spot-on, the food was excellent, and the views were amazing from the outside patio (which is heated). I could sit there all night and just admire the views. We had the bread with salted butter and the chili seasoned seared prawns as appetizers. The butter had a wonderful flavor, and the prawns were prepared perfectly. For the main course we opted for the ribeye with chimichurri sauce. The steak came out medium-rare just as I ordered and it was seasoned perfectly. It was a nice, tender cut of meat. Finally, for dessert we opted for the chocolate mousse, which was light but flavorful with shaved chocolate chips. This was an unrushed, relaxing meal in a beautiful setting with attentive and friendly service. The food was nothing special and didn't justify the price. I've had better duck in places that were cheaper, was on the dry side. I asked for gluten-free, so instead of spaghetti, they gave me mashed potatoes. Also wondering if the cheesecake really was made there as they claim. This place is a hidden gem with one hell of a chef! We saw their billboard on the way to Bryce Canyon (yes outdoor advertising works!), so I made a call and took the first reservation I could get. It is not often that I'm in total awe of the artistry and taste profile created by a chef, but Ron Baker was absolutely incredible. If the world finds out about him, it's over because he is the real deal. However, I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed that the restaurant website and menus don't mention him because he's packing some serious star power. Before I dig into the food, I do want to make a quick shout out to the exceptional serving staff, especially, Jesus and Trey who served us on two different nights - yes, we went two nights in a row. The quality of service was impeccable and the staff was organized, knowledgeable and classy. Jesus especially knew the menu and his recommendations inside out. We were very impressed by him. Back to Ron's food (and also his wife who is in charge of the pantry and appetizers - apologies for not knowing her name - especially bc women power!) Night #1 - the Grilled Pork Chop was creative, unique, unexpected and worth every bite. This dish will tell you everything you need to know about his style. The 14oz Ribeye with chimichurri sauce was also epic. Night #2 - the 8oz Filet with tarragon butter and the Rainbow Trout special were also very good. We also had the Roasted Beets with this incredible jalapeño almost salsa blew us out of the water. I just can't say enough good stuff. Next up, I've got to check out the Stone Canyon Inn! read more

I'm sure this was an off night for the Stone Hearth. We ate there June 11,2024. A couple of us ordered Chicken Piccata. The chicken tasted like a pork consistency. I'm sure it was boiled first. The asparagus was undercooked. The potato puree was good, but the portion was very small. The worst part was the female server, who must also have been having a bad night. She was great in returning my Shishito Peppers and not charging me for them, but after that she kept rolling her eyes when we were slow in making a decision about wine and especially when she brought one bill before asking if we would each like a separate bill. Between disappointing food and a server with attitude, I would not return to pay high price for low quality. read more

This was one of the only fine dining options near Bryce National Park and I'm very glad we tried it. The meal started off with some free hummus with wafers, carrots, and celery. I ordered the Shrimp Capellini with Ginger and loved it! The shrimps were quite large and the sauce had a very light ginger taste. I also ordered a side of garlic mashed potatoes for some extra carbs. For dessert, we ordered the orange mousse dessert with balsamic reduction. I've never had anything quite like it. The wrap is crispy and the fruits were a nice touch. The mousse had a airy texture and very natural orange flavor. Loved the ambiance because of the large windows and the stunning views. First and foremost, the food was delicious here. Certainly the best halibut I have ever had - the shrimp that came atop it were also excellent, and both laid in this delectable sauce I dream of recreating at home. The service is another story. When a runner brought my food out, she took it to the wrong table - it should be mentioned that myself and my fiancé were two of 8 total people in the dining room - there was a table of four who already had their food - as well as one other couple. She actually set my fiancés plate down at the other table before the gentleman seated above it kindly informed her this was not what he had ordered. Meanwhile, as I'm watching this unfold - I pipe up and gently inform her the meal appeared to be ours. She ignored me and then put my plate down in front of the other diner at the wrong table. Here's a good rule of thumb for this restaurant to follow (which is trying real hard to become an upscale option in Bryce Canyon area): once you set a plate bearing food down on a table and remove your hands from it - the dish now belongs to the occupants of that table. Do not pick it back up and then serve it to another diner. Or how about simply paying enough attention to take it to the correct table in the first place? When our waitress came over to ask how first bites were, I told her "delicious," but also that I felt what just occurred was inappropriate etiquette for a restaurant - she rolled her eyes at me. We had some roasted beets as a starter and then steaks, as well as a bottle of a pretty good California red - Krug, I think. About $200; would have been closer to $100 without the wine. The view from their terrace is worth $100 on its own. Highly recommended, reserve well in advance, ask for outside seating. Can't go wrong with the menu. read more

If you think that the gps gave you the wrong directions, you are mostly likely on the right track. It's out in the middle of nowhere. But so worth the drive. The food is really amazing! Everything that we had was really good. Everything was full of flavor and tasted fresh. The service was fast and friendly, and they were all on top of service. Never had to ask for water or anything. we didn't make reservations, but they had a cancellation so we were able to get a table. This place looks like a house turned into a restaurant. So they have limited inside seating, 10 tables of 4, and 4 tables of 2. They do have outdoor seating, which would be great with the amazing weather this time of year. But sounds like they rather have you inside. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, the other tables had nothing but good things to say about their food. What an amazing dining experience. The service was on point. Amy our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The French Onion soup was as good of French Onion I have ever had. My entree 8oz filet perfectly prepared on top of the silkiest potatoes and the broccoli rabe, wow. The area around Bryce Canyon is kind of already in the middle of nowhere. Stone Hearth Grille would be in the middle of nowhere within the middle of nowhere. It is approximately a mile from the main road that cuts through the town of Tropic. You will see a couple signs that point you toward the Grille. You will also need to cut through a residential area and make a couple of sharp turns to get there. It was a slight challenge at night in the dark. Stone Hearth Grille is a part of an inn. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. As such, it is one of the few spots you can have a really nice dinner in terms of food and ambience while visiting Bryce Canyon. For my appetizer, I ordered the French Onion soup as I saw reviews raving about it. However, I thought it was ok but nothing exceptional. For my entrée, I ordered the tender filet of beef. It is their most tender of the Grille's cuts of beef and 7 ounces. The ribeye and New York strip cuts were bigger at 14 and 12 ounces each. At first, the tender filet tasted a little too tender (i.e. almost mushy). Nevertheless, the tenderness grew on me as I continued to eat more of the meat and I ultimately loved it. One of Utah's main industries is cattle ranching. I definitely recommend a steak at Stone Hearth Grille. We came here to celebrate our 20 year anniversary. I requested a romantic table for two, however we were seated in the middle of the restaurant without a view. I am not going to dock a star because of this because the food was fantastic. However, it would be nice that if there is an option to make a request during a reservation, it gets acknowledged. Especially at a higher end restaurant. We had the Romaine Heart salad with mustard vinaigrette, and the French onion soup as appetizers. They were both delicious. I had the Halibut with lemon caper sauce, and OMG, I almost fainted when I tasted it. It was to die for! Absolutely the best fish I have ever had. My girlfriend had the Filet Mignon which was so good as well. It was cooked perfectly and the veggies were fresh and prepared well. I would definitely some back here. We were pleased to find high quality, creative, vegetarian-friendly food served in a beautiful space close to Bryce Canyon. The polenta cake served with beans and arugula was the star here: a hearty, well-balanced (vegan!) dish with an impossibly creamy polenta. The chocolate torte dessert with vanilla bean ice cream was a total knockout, too, with a rich, deep flavor. The portion sizes here are generous, and we were very satisfied after our meal. There are not a lot of food options if you are staying just outside of Bryce, but Stone Hearth is only 15 minutes down scenic highway 12. At the end of a dirt road in Tropic, their location is very picturesque, with great views from the terrace and lovely artwork inside the restaurant. There were a couple of downsides to eating here. Our waitress seemed annoyed that we didn't order drinks (we don't drink alcohol) and that we didn't order starters. Also, because of the acoustics, you can hear everyone's conversations. However, the meal we ate here was definitely one of the best on our tour of the Utah parks so far, and we'd recommend this restaurant to others in the area. read more

This place is overrated and overpriced. We arrived this evening for our dinner reservation, and before we even hit our seats, the waitress was rushing us to order. We asked for recommendations and she basically told us what she did not like as opposed to what she did like. She never smiled the entire time she took care of us. I ended up ordering the thing she said not to order and while it was tasty, it was extremely small and not filling. The only time she checked in on us was when we only had about two bites left of dinner and she was rushing us to make a decision about dessert. She then took our dessert order and never offered coffee or asked if we wanted anything else. She seemed miserable and it made the dining experience equally miserable. We eat at restaurants at least five times a week all over the country and also around the world, and this place was a big letdown. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. read more
