We've been coming to this restaurant for 10 years and this will be our last time. Today when we first walked in there was 1 waitress talking to the only customer and told us to pick a seat. I saw no less than 3 dirty tables to choose from and the entire staff watching tv at the counter. It's changed owners at least 3 times and the quality of service and the food especially has gone downhill. Rubbery.cold hash browns, corn beef hash with raw onions and raw bell peppers and NO potatoes, Over cooked eggs and undercooked bacon, toast was off too. Either bad bread or butter. Not sure. The Stop Inn's menu may seem absurdly pricey at first ($20 corned beef and cabbage), but then you realize the portions are so massive that it's basically 2 meals. So be prepared to take home half of it when you order. The only exception might be the sandwiches, which can just barely fit in your stomach. Heh heh, "Stop Inn" - get it? The successful execution of a subtle pun is worth a star in itself, maybe. Stop Inn is everything I want in a neighborhood diner. Service is pleasant but not chatty. The food is simple diner grub, satisfyingly but not disgustingly greasy, consistently delicious. Never have they served anything to me that was less than exactly what I wanted it to be - even the challah French toast was delightful, and I never like sweet things for breakfast. Prices seem high for the location, but then you realize the portions are 150% the size of what you'd usually get. Breakfast specials (i.e. everything is vaguely cheaper and comes with coffee/tea and juice) run until 11am. I always get eggs and hash because as far as I'm concerned, eggs are what diners are for. As with many older Woodside establishments, they have an Irish history, and accordingly serve Irish breakfast (with a whole pot of breakfast tea!) and a few other plates that hint at Hibernia. The fries are fine, but in all circumstances you should opt for the perfectly tender, crisped hash browns - never oily or mushy, and unsalted so you can add your own. There's always Tabasco, Cholula, chipotle Cholula, Irish Chef's sauce, AND malt vinegar on the table! I'd stick with the salt. This tiny eatery takes up a weird triangular street corner, so the inside fits only a few booths (lots of cozy 2-seaters) and a lunch counter a la the Twin Peaks diner. It's a good place for eating alone because you never feel like you're taking up too much space. Only one table seats more than 4. Expect them to be packed on Sunday mornings. Don't bother if you're a group of more than 3. I grew up just a few blocks away, and Stop Inn has been open here for longer than I've been alive. It was one of my frequent weekend brunch spot in the past. Introduced by an Irish friend, I crave time to time and pay a visit for my all time favorite Traditional Irsh Breakfast meal. Have to add, over the years, the quality hasn't changed. The Irish breakfast menu consist of everything you want if you are a meat eater looking for a deal. This meal comes in a complete action with value pack. Bacons, Overeasy Eggs, Black and White puddings (I only know one more diner that have these), Fried tomatoes (I crave this sometimes), Homemade Hash browns (this is really good one), Toasts (They have the best toasts ever with jams (to me)) and a shot of OJ or coffee. I usually get a pot of Irish breakfast tea (~$3.00) came in a refillable generously sized pot. All for around $11-13. The weekend brunch time gets really packed and the wait is usual but reasonable. It is located in the center of the Irish community blocks in Woodside. A Fire Station and Irish Bakery across, Donovan Pubs a block away and so on. Right under the 7 Train. Either way, I was starving from my plane ride and decided to order in diner food to my hotel in Queens. Luckily they delivered. Unfortunately, everything I had was equivalent to Denny's food. Stop (and don't go) Inn (to this place). The food looks like the food that comes with a Fisher Price toy kitchen set. The sausages are overly-cylindrical and the home fries look like rendered undergrad art projects. The food itself tastes like insulation material; I left my plate mostly uneaten. Seems the only thing this place gets right is the salt and pepper. It's also way too small in here. Maybe if this place was in Bodunk, Mississippi, the small size would be endearing, but underneath the 7 train in Woodside, it just comes across as squalid and cramped. The service was odd and remote, having the human interaction of two plants pollinating. The most egregious thing about this place were the prices. Two plates of breakfast, nothing extravagant, cost $28. We're talking eggs/home fries and two cups of coffee. My jaw hit the floor (and got stepped on by a busboy because the place was so damn small) when we got the check. I recommend one of two things: 1) Realize that Woodside ain't what it used to be and drown your morning sorrows in a Dunkin' Donuts breakfast, or 2) Go to Woodside Cafe. Much better. read more

This is the best diner. I've been coming here for 6 years, and thing that stands out is the low turnover in staff - same busboys year after year. Service is amazing, they are always asking to refill your drink or bringing you extra napkins if they see you eating a burger. They do diner basics very very well. It's also very clean, and they have an impressive selection of condiments on each table (I personally witnessed them putting a brand new bottle of ketchup as opposed to refilling it). Best foods: burger (I like the stop inn burger with mushrooms and sautéed onions - if you ask for well done on those toppings, they'll actually do it and get it right), its massive; ask for medium rare. Greek salad - the small is huge, always fresh and awesome (get the house dressing) French fries - my favorite fries anywhere. Pancakes - if you get them with seasonal berries, it means a lot of fresh blueberries and strawberries. Pancakes plus egg is a great deal. Grilled cheese sandwich - I'm not usually a fan if sandwiches, but I've seen my friends always order and rave about sandwiches there, so now grilled cheese (with cheddar, tomato and ham) is one of my top choices. Chicken wings - my bf ordered that for the first time yesterday, and they were pretty good, although personally I prefer drier. Any breakfast item is solid. What not to get: pasta, any fancy and non-diner foods. The Irish fare foods are actually decent, but by the time I finish the salad and fries, I have no room to properly enjoy it. I grew up in Jersey, so I don't think there will ever be a diner in New York that will get 4 stars from me. That being said, this place stands out only because: 1. it's a Irish diner in the middle of Woodside 2. They have real hash browns The hash browns are the only thing I will give 4 stars because they are a relative rarity to anyone who thinks those ground up potato slabs they serve at McDonald's are real hashbrowns. I came here for brunch and got the Irish breakfast. It came with eggs, irish bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, and black and white pudding and never-ending coffee. Let me explain black and white pudding. It is NOT the creamy delicious viscous chocolatey vanilla goodness that it pretends to be on the menu. It is actually an Irish sausage patty, one white (more like pink) which tasted okay, and a black sausage with white specks that tasted basically like liver (gross). The Irish bacon tasted more like gamey ham, and the sausage links look like the kind you get out of the box in the frozen food aisle. I mean the hash browns were good, but at 10 bucks, I had higher hopes for all the processed breakfast meats that have comforted me since childhood. Service was okay. It's a pretty busy spot, and I guess day time hours tend to be crowded. I was in, I was out. If I'm craving diner food, I may come back here, but I'll order the hashbrowns a la carte. read more

Who ever thought you can have a traditional Irish meal at a diner in the heart of Woodside? Well, if you are craving some mean energy food, this is the place! Came here with a friend on Saturday for breakfast and this place was bustling at 10:30am. Their Monte Cristo (think McDonald's McGriddle but 10x better), challah bread french toast with ham and swiss cheese totally comforted my hungry belly. The challah twist on the french toast was a huge plus, much better than the normal white bread. This cozy diner is conveniently situated across the street from the 7 train's 61st Street station. When I lived in Maspeth, this was a favorite brunch spot before venturing out to the city. The portions are generous and the food, really tasty. I love the turkey burger which they top with caramelized onions! Sooooo good! They have every omelette you can think of and Irish dishes too. The service is really bad I ordered steak and eggs it was super salty I asked the waiter if I can change it or exchange it for something else. he first started to answer back very nasty at me saying that's it's not salty and that I'm wrong, mind you it was 3 of us In the table who tasted it. I've lived in Woodside for a good decade and never ventured here. Finally decided to drop by! I ordered the two eggs over easy, with corned beef hash and hash browns on the side. My boyfriend ordered the irish breakfast; it comes with grilled tomatos, sausage, ham, black and white puddings and it also came with hash browns and two eggs over easy. His breakfast also comes with a cup of fresh squeezed orange juice. The servers are friendly and quick. We got our food within 10 minutes. The eggs are cooked to perfection, and the corned beef hash was crispy. The hash browns would be perfect if it was cooked a little more. The irish breakfast was great. The ham were crispy on both sides, and the white and black puddings were equally delicious. The irish breakfast can easily feed a group of 2! The portions are huge. Has to one of the best diners in the entire City. First great thing about it is it's open 24 hours. Having eaten here multiple times I can say there is no drop off in the quality of food if it's 3 am or 3 pm. It's just flat out delicious. The diner is always clean and the staff is friendly and attentive. The food is fantastic and is served in substantial portions. The highlights of the menu include, wraps, salads, Greek fare, fries (regular, waffle & sweet potato), wings, pancakes, French Toast and pretty much everything else on the menu. One thing that frustrates me and contributed to the 4 not 5 star rating is that for some reason they can't grill a burger properly. I always ask for it done medium o medium rare. It comes out well done every time. It's actually an infuriating pet peeve of mine especially when the server says it will be done as requested and you get a hockey puck. The only thing I was disappointed in consistently was the pasta. It wasn't good the two times I had it and have just resolved to stick to the many things they do well. read more

Love, Love, Love this place. I am so pleased they started accepting credit cards as payment because years ago it was a cash only diner. Let's see where do I begin? Their food is very good and when you sit in they get you your food quickly. I never went to this place and had to wait no more than 15 to 20 minutes to get my food. I believe on the weekends its open 24hrs because I remember seeing it closed during the week in the am hours. It's a great spot to go to after a night of drinking or just a regular afternoon for some lunch. I usually order the pizza burger deluxe and a side of pickles. If you love pickles I suggest you get a side of them. I am not sure what they do to them but they taste delicious. They have this garlic taste to them and I believe they are made on site. Or they can be pickles that you buy in a supermarket, even thought I have yet to find them. Their burgers are so juicy and made perfect. The French fries are golden and crispy. Just writing this review is making my mouth water. Their prices aren't too bad either, which is why I continue to go to this place whenever I am in the area. ::: BATHROOM ALERT :::: Their bathroom is for customers only and its downstairs. I am happy to say that the women's bathroom is quite clean. Whenever I eat at a diner and I see that their bathroom is dirty it makes me think about how dirty the food preparation area is. Also there is no odor and the air freshener feels as if it is constantly changed. I have never went to the bathroom there and smelled or see anything dirty. I did notice one time the sink leaked a little but that stuff happens. I'm not really sure when I am going to go back here but when I do I want to go there to see how their breakfast tastes. I've read some reviews on here that state that you have to go there in the 6am to 11am hours. If you're looking for cheap food and big portions then I recommend this place. I'm giving this place 4 stars because on occasion they waiter/ waitress forgot to bring me a side order of pickles and they don't refill your drink right away. I have to admit, this will be a biased review of sorts. I've been in this neighborhood since I was a tween, and Stop Inn was one of the places we went to regularly and I still go to regularly. Some food isn't that great, but the burgers are awesome, the mozzarella sticks to die for, and as someone else mentioned, a fantastic variety of omelets. I'm also a big fan of many of their weekday specials, and especially of their milkshakes. The Irish breakfast, although I haven't had it in a while, is also the thing to get here too. This place is a great after-bar stop (almost mandatory) as well as a nice place to hang out with your friends or relax at other times. I feel it's also one of the few places left in this city with a true neighborhood feel. The waiters and cooks have been more or less the same people for years, they're very friendly (albeit in that NY way), and the chances of you running into neighborhood friends is always high. I also find it's a good place to make new friends in the neighborhood when eating there alone. So yeah, the food may not be the greatest, but everything else this place has to offer will always keep it in a special place in my heart. read more

Stop Inn delivers charm and relief to the area of Woodside and as a resident, I am truly grateful for it's existence. Without it, I don't know what I would do. Well, I mean I'd probably go to Saints and Sinners for some grub but there's something peculiar about this place. It has a sense of humor. For one thing, it gives you an excuse to forget your troubles and get cozy immediately. Spoil yourself. The bustling transportation hub upstairs can wait its sorry ass.
