Had a Saturday reservation for Storms this weekend and we had a great experience. We were quickly seated and given a basket of bread to start that included Italian, salt sticks and an everything seasoning stick. We placed an order for the mozzarella wheel which was very good. For our entrees we ordered the Diavolo, Chicken Romano, Chicken Parm and Scalo. All of the dishes were very good. The sauces all had great taste and good balances of flavors. The chicken was cooked well and had good breading. The only meat that wasn't the best was on the Diavolo, but it is more of a personal preference as you could just taste the skin which isn't something we care for. But overall each meal was done right and the service was great. We were able to bring our own alcoholic drinks and there was no cork fee. Definitely a good local spot to try for some quality Italian in the south hills! read more

Although the food is very good, I was asked to leave after 1.5 hours. Now we had an appetizer, main course and split a dessert. I was still drinking my coffee. It was a table for 2 and there were numerous empty tables. I understand they get reservations which I had but you do not have to have one. It is embarrassing and appalling that a restaurant would conduct business in this manner. They sent some bus boy from the back out to announce this in front of everyone in the restaurant. The waitress was tipped extremely well and the meals are not cheap. I do not mind paying for good food! I DO MIND paying and then being treated in this manner. We went to Storms restaurant on 12.21. We started out by having wedding soup and a wedge salad. Both were tasty, but the wedding soup was a bit watery. We ordered a chicken parmesan and a penne scalp for our main dishes. Both were excellent and big enough to have leftovers for the next day. The sauces on both dishes had a good, homemade taste. We brought a bottle of wine to go with the meal. The only thing we would have changed was where we sat (side little room right by the door). The main eating area seemed cozier. If you're in the mood for an Italian dinner night check out Storms restaurant. The prices are what I would expect for a great meal and service. The restaurant is small but intimate. A great place to celebrate an anniversary or birthday. I would suggest making a reservation as they do get busy my family and I have celebrated both birthdays and anniversaries here. They do have daily specials and the menu is updated regularly, but everything is delicious. BTW it is a BYOB so if you want a bottle of wine you'll need to supply it yourself. I have eaten here several times and they also cater many of my works events. Every time I have had their food I have been very impressed. The fried zucchini is the best I have ever had. It is a very light batter, but has a great taste to it. My favorite dish when I eat inside is the chicken romano. Everything tastes fresh and is cooked to perfection. The batter on the chicken is delicious. You also get a hint of lemon flavor in every bite. They also have great catering options. Some of my favorites I have had at work events include the lasagna, pulled pork, and chicken tenders. So much better than when we just get cold sandwiches for events. read more

I'm going to stay I think 4 stars for an Italian restaurant means it's some pretty good Italian food. Maybe my grandma spoils me, but the 4 star rating for this place is kind of extreme. We came in with a party of 13 for a work lunch. It's a pretty large space and they aren't new to the game so enough staff shouldn't be a problem. It kinda was, my drink was empty 85% of the time and when they would fill it with water they just kept putting more and more ice till it was an entire thing of ice and so little water i would be out after one drink. It wasn't only me, the majority of the table was lacking drinks the whole time. Yes it's a big party but again, this isn't new to them. For the meal, I will say I liked the flavor of my Chicken Romano but the portions were SO off. 5 of us got the same thing and none of them were even close to the same size. Mine was half the size of my coworkers so we ended up swapping one piece of each other's. I get that chicken is different sizes but I mean they shouldn't be that different when everyone's paying the same thing. I very much enjoyed the appetizers of zucchini and stuffed banana peppers, those were probably the best part. Decor is super dated and not in a homey Italian type of way. We've heard such wonderful things about Storms since they opened nearby. Unfortunately, we just hadn't ever made it there. We decided to get takeout to celebrate the week being over and wanted to try something new. We decided on Storms. Everything was very good, so good that we ate it before taking pictures. We ordered the fried cheese appetizer which is a 1 large block of cheese breaded and fried. It came on top of their tomato sauce and was absolutely delicious. I can't even imagine how much better it'd be served at the restaurant. We also had the eggplant parm and meatball marinara entrees. Both came with the choice of soup or salad. We both chose salad which was fresh with more vegetables than normal which was a nice surprise. Both entrees were well prepared and flavorful. They were an appropriate size for each of us to be satisfied, without being overly stuffed. The eggplant parm came as round thick slices of eggplant, breaded with the same breading as the cheese appetizer and fried. While it came with multiple pieces, I do feel like serving it on top of a pasta would make the meal more complete. If I didn't have some pasta and sauce to steal from my boyfriend, it would have felt incomplete. I didn't see sides of pasta, but they might have them as an option too. Other things worth recognizing are their ranch (ranch snob here) which exceeded all expectations and the bread which was so yummy and much appreciated in the takeout order! read more

First of all, you'll need a reservation, and you can't get one the same day. That speaks for itself. The atmosphere is not overwhelming, but the friendly staff and menu choices ma'am's up for it. This is usual Italian fare with flare. You can chose from full entrees or pair a salad with a half portion of pasta. My friend and I went for the candied walnut salad and the Caesar. Both were exceptional. The pasta Farlanese with tomato basil cream sauce was tasty, but the Scoglio was over the top. This was my first lunch visit with a girlfriend. I checked Groupon and noticed that the online deal is for dinner only and is for an Italian meal. Upon entry into an office building you turn right and then head down a long staircase to get to the restaurant. Reservations are a must and when I arrived I could see why. The place was packed! Fortunately we did have a reservation and we seated across the bar in a booth. I would say the dress code is business casual since I saw some professionals along with others without suits. We were given prompt and courteous service. I learned that the spots were the popular menu choice so I opted for that along with the soup of the day which was wedding and a zucchini tomato blend as a vegetable. My girlfriend had the eggplant Parmesan covered with shrimp and chicken. The soup was good and the spots were covered with crabcake-the real deal! The meal wasn't too filling and they served bread on the side. They made sure our drinks were always filled and cleared away our finished plates promptly. They specialize in Italian food but they have other items such as the spots I really enjoyed. They do have a bar but no Wi Fi. Stumbling in from the cold night Alison and I were kind of confused when we first stepped into the Lobby of what couldn't look less like a restaurant. But a door to the Right leads you down the stairs and before you know it the left side opens up to a dark wooden bar facing across to what is an otherwise bland looking restauraunt. We were seated in a booth and quickly brought menus. The beer menu was not impressive so I went with a Gin and Tonic which was delicious. Alison went with a glass of house wine I don't like wine or know anything about it but it was white and she seemed happy with it. We got the Fried Zuchinni and Bruschetta as our appetizers. The Zuchinni was the best I have ever had, lightly breaded and crisp. You could tell the ingredients were fresh. The bruschetta was also quite delicious but it was definitely overshadowed by the Zuchinni. As soon as the plates were empty they were removed and my broccoli cheddar soup had arrived. The soup was okay, fresh but a little too thin I like my soup creamy. Again the service was impeccable as my Chicken Marsala arrived within 15 minutes of sitting down. The pasta side dish was very good but the chicken was just okay. The sauce was on the sparse end and the chicken a little dry. We finished the meal off with Tiramasu and my inner foodie was satisfied. We had the groupon so our meal cost $28+drinks and tip. Leaving with a bill under $50 made paying for downtown parking a little less painful. I will definitely return to this hidden gem and next time sit at the bar. I was just here today on a whim...felt like eating down town so I chose this spot again...of course I had a groupon so me and my hubby went..this experience was much better than the last.. The atmosphere was a lot better, quieter, the folks at the bar weren't as loud as they were before so that was nice..this time I ordered the eggplant diavlo which comes in a red sauce with spicy hot sausage sliced and with peppers and onions..it was supposed to be eggplant part but I spiced it up a bit. My dish was such a large portion. So of course I couldn't finish it all but the eggplant was crispy and not over saturated plus the extra toppings made it more of a hearty meal than just veggies and sauce. My hubby ordered the veal scallopini as seen in the picture...the sauce was very good, had a classic Marsala flavor too it...the veal was very tender just like chicken and it was moist...I enjoyed my dish a little better only because of how hearty it was..the veal should have had a little more veggies to go along with the sauce. This time for dessert I ordered tiramisu instead if cheesecake which was great!! They have a layer of lady fingers topped with nearly 2 inches if thick whip cream and chocolate drizzle. It was so soft and creamy , not too sweet and so delicious...we loved it sooo much that my hubby tried To convince me I didn't like it so that I woul stop eating...too bad the groupon was only for one dessert otherwise i would have ordered another. It just recently moved from downtown and I'm glad it's so close, it's my new favorite Italian restaurant!! I came for lunch and saw they had shrimp scampi and thought it came with pasta, which it didn't, but the chef was happy to add pasta in it for me; it was the best shrimp scampi I've ever had!! I absolutely recommend Storms. We were a group of 4 and went on a Wednesday night. I saw online that a reservation was recommended so we followed that advice. I'm so glad we did because it was packed when we got there. And for good reason. We had the brussel sprouts and beans and greens for an appetizer. I loved the balsamic drizzle on the sprouts. It was big enough for all of us to get a few. The beans and greens were delicious as well. Our server was lovely. One in the group has celiac and the server made sure to check on every item before it was ordered. All of our dinners were amazing. I had the chicken park. The sauce was so good. The portion was big enough that I could take half of it home for lunch the next day. The pasta side comes family style and we all got more than enough from the serving size. It's BYOB which we love. Storms on a Cloudy Day was Pure Sunshine 11 months ago, a group of my friends and I decided we needed to spend more time together. Our busy lives demanded that we connect more with each other to make it through. "Ladies who Lunch" was born. Once a month, normally on Thursdays we pick a restaurant that we have either wanted to try or want each other to try and spend an hour or two enjoying food, laughter and each other. October's choice was Storms and it did NOT disappoint. The moment you walk into the unassuming Italian restaurant you are transported to an upscale but friendly surrounding. A few dozen tables with elegant black tablecloths, side plates and clear glasses sat among beautiful gray toned, gold accented photos of Downtown Pittsburgh on their wall. (I came to find out they were originally located downtown for 10 years and moved here in 2018). Greeted by our waitress and a bottle of water she explained the daily specials and gave us some time to decide. That was no easy task as everything on the menu sounded good. We started with their Crispy Fried Brussel Sprouts appetizer. It was good and that plate went back completely bare. The perfect sprout spheres were dressed in sea salt, cracked black pepper, balsamic glaze and large Reggiano Parmesan ribbons covered the top. I would order these again. The soup of the day was a Shrimp and Chorizo stew. I had to try it and it was fantastic. The spice of the chorizo mellowed out in the creamy broth packed with corn, carrots and perfectly cooked potato cubes. The baby shrimp were amazingly tender and not overcooked - not an easy task when put in soup. For the main course, two of my friends ordered the daily special of Chicken Cinzano. It was three perfectly pounded out chicken breasts in a balsamic, white wine, butter and cream sauce. The flavor was like a rich and hearty. It could have used a side of pasta. I was surprised it did not come with one perhaps because it was lunch, but the rustic Italian bread our server brought was a perfect vehicle to enjoy every drop of sauce on the plate. I ordered the Chicken Picatta which was also perfectly pounded out to tender deliciousness with sautéed mushrooms, artichokes, a heap of capers in a tasty lemon white wine sauce. Again, a side of pasta would have made it better, but bread worked for me too. Our other friend went for the Eggplant Parmesan which was a heaping serving with generous amounts of mozzarella cheese and a very unique spicy portabella mushroom sauce. There were large chunks of mushrooms that made this meatless dish very filling and satisfying. I love that all my friends willingly let me stick my fork in their lunch so I could try each dish. I would recommend all three. We were also celebrating my friend's birthday and the restaurant permitted us to bring in our own cake. At the end of the meal, without me even having to ask again, our server plated the cake for me and brought it out with a lit candle, very nice touch! We decided to order coffees to enjoy with the cake and that was smart. The coffee was a clean and simple medium roast that I could drink carafe after carafe of. I can't wait to bring more friends and family to this terrific little restaurant which is right in my own backyard. Well done, Storms.
