I notice a lot of 5 & 4 star ratings....but don't ignore the poorer ratings bc they're valid For me .....1st time great food, a favorite for me is breakfast country fried steak and gravy & glass of water, it was fantastic...cost 19$, tipped 5....food so good a return trip is warranted... 2nd time food tastes like cardboard....it's dinner time but I ordered the same breakfast dish as 1st time....food was terrible...I think the cook just nuked earlier breakfast & served it as my dinner....I couldn't take a second bite, paid the bill, still tipped my waitress 5$, and left... Been going here on and off for a long time. They are a welcoming diner and the waiters are extremely fast and attentive. Generally have breakfast, even if it is lunch time as I like their breakfasts. We were there yesterday and my wife asks if this one particular lady was a new owner. I told her she bought it a while ago but what hasn't changed is the service and more importantly, the food. So I had breakfast on this visit. I ordered Ham & eggs with hashed browns that I requested extra well done. My friend ordered chili Verdejo requested the eggs be scrambled with cheese and onions. I requested my eggs poached medium. They are one of the few places that has an egg poacher . We agreed the eggs were perfect. His chili Verde had a fresh & spicy flavor that was excellent. My potatoes were crispy as I requested the ham was smoky thick and not dry. The service was excellent our requests were not a problem. Service was quick and attentive with our coffee roped off as needed. The ambience is that of a 50s California Coffee Shop because that is exactly what it is. The tropical plantings outside the windows that line the front tabletop to ceiling. You can choose a booth or sit at the counter and in the back is a full bar called the crystal room. I love this place , the food is delicious. Unfortunately it's been already a couple of times where Mary the waitress (Latina lady) has been rude to us. She has a lot of bad attitude. When we ask what was the special of the day , she replied to us with bad attitude " didn't you see it when you came in?". After we order food she gave us the check right away and we were planning to order pastries. We felt like she was kicking us out. The reason I chose 1 star is for management to do something because I am not planning to come back even though this has been a place that I have come since I was a kid. I have to give this place a 5 star From the moment we walked in on a busy Sunday we were greeted with smiles and seated quickly despite it being busy. I love old fashioned diners and I was especially pleased when I saw they had my favorite farmers style breakfast with all the meats two eggs hash browns AAANND my biscuits and gravy. The topper for me was the mimosa to accompany my breakfast. After the first it's $4. Needless to say the coffee was perfectly hot and delicious and they kept it coming for my hubby who ordered his favorite breakfast a country fried steak and eggs with O'Brien potatoes white toast and a short stack of potato pancakes. WOW!! Good price for delicious home style food. This place is a hidden gem. I'm so happy to see they have great customer service despite how busy they are. We will be back. The food and service was great. I took my 95-year-old mother who uses a walker and is hard of hearing even with hearing aids the acoustics was great. We could actually have a conversation because it was very quiet in there. The only problem we had was the bathroom, she had a hard time maneuvering around with her walker and the toilets were too low to the ground so I had to help her in and out. I absolutely love this restaurant food. Yes, the location is a "bit" outdated... but the food is incredible. I love the waffles. The blueberry topping is my favorite, but the apples are tasty too.
