I've come here a few times and had amazing experiences. However today, 4/5/24, I experienced the worst customer service I've ever had at Straw & Spoon. The cashier (young girl with red hair) assisted customers in the line before me but then decided to leave the register once I got to the front. After a few moments, I peeked my head around the partition and said excuse me? She replies "yeah?" When I told her what I was there for she said hold on, rolled her eyes, rapper lyrics to the lil Wayne song that was playing and proceeded to make me wait even longer. I walk by this place all the time and have been waiting for them to open. Walked in Sunday afternoon and the place had quite a few people inside even though they only had a soft-opening. It was cute inside. Easy to order off of iPads, huge selection of items. I went for the Traditional Milk Tea with oat milk, boba, less sweetness, and my partner went Ube Taro Smoothie. It was a littler weird it was only one size but whatever... maybe they will add sizes later, since they didn't have their grand opening yet when I went. I do love that they have an option of regular sweet or less because I find a lot of other boba places too sweet. The only milk alternative was oat, but again I wonder if they will eventually add more options. Lots of add ons available. It took a few minutes to get the order. We sat outside, the outdoor area was kinda meh. The glass was dirty but I did appreciate it there to buffer the traffic noise and air from Artesia. We both really liked our drinks. The drinks are all one sized, which is fine. I had a strawberry matcha latte with oat milk and I did NOT care for the taste of their oat milk. The drinks were made fairly quickly (even though they messed up one drink) - I ordered 3. The other two, Strawberry Milk and Brown Sugar were okay...the Strawberry tasted just like a Nesquik, but super sweet. I'll likely try the açaí bowls next time, but don't think I'll be back for the drinks. I was excited about this one, but a bit bummed about it. Oh well. I've been hoping for a local boba place as any time I wanted boba in the past, I'd have to drive over to Tozai Plaza for decent boba. Went here on a day off and didn't know what to expect. Decent parking lot, cute outside appearance, and additional seating area facing Artesia Blvd. Upon walking in I noticed that tablets are used to order. Easy enough to use and can customize your order with a few options. Selection for teas isn't the biggest, but I'm okay with that as I'm a traditionalist -- matcha, milk tea, and Thai tea. They offer multiple options for drink add ons such as "regular boba", "double boba", "triple boba", popping fruit boba/pearls, and fruit jelly. Option for oat milk is also available (not my thing, I don't like oat milk). Being a boba traditionalist, I ordered a Thai tea, double boba, regular milk. Drinks come in one size. Minimal frills. For the Thai tea, they instructed me to shake the drink to mix it. I shook it slightly and my tea mixed together and the boba was instantly visible on the bottom. The tea was sweet but not obnoxiously sweet -- it was delicious. The boba? That was cooked perfectly, not overcooked and mushy and not undercooked with crunchy bits. It had a nice brown sugar molasses sweetness that was a nice balance and not too overpowering. The tea and the boba together blended harmoniously! I've gone back several times for Thai tea and boba and plan on going back to try an acai bowl (only had acai bowl once so I'm intrigued). Looking over the acai bowl options on the tablets shows a decent selection of toppings (again, I'm new to acai bowls so it looks decent for a newbie). Cannot comment on customer service as I had no need to request additional support. Also cannot comment on outdoor seating area as I've gotten every order to go. Please, give this place grace -- it has potential for development, growth, and a loyal customer base. It's new, starting with a smaller selection. But so far every time I've gone the product has been consistent and the counter service has been good (like I said, I've had no need for additional support). For reference I am a matcha lover who always order my matcha tea without any added sugar --as I hate when boba places taint their matcha with premixed sugar. It's always been hit or miss with strawberry matcha but in this case the only sweetness was from the strawberry purée which was just sweet enough --but not so sweet that it overpowered the matcha. There is a kiosk at the door to place your order, and as a first time customer, you have to figure it out on your own on what they offer. I have to begin by saying that my wife and I are açaí bowl lovers. Ever since we moved to LA it's been hard to find a place that compared to our old favorite. However, Straw & Spoon did NOT disappoint. The staff was super friendly, the service and presentation was super quick and the bowl was fire!
