I'm going to upgrade my rating for this place because of 3 reasons. 1. They have a big ass projector that displays major UFC and boxing events. 2. No cover charge for UFC events so far (just major boxing events). Not a problem at all. 3. I can tell that the owners here are fights fans and they are passionate about creating a scene for other fans. They even offered a raffle for the outcome of the Ward vs. Kovalev fight. Also, they will order every UFC and Boxing pay-per view and not just the ones that are very popular. I respect that. read more

Huge fan of this place, can't say enough. Really fun place to watch the UFC fights, no cover, lots of places to sit with a ton of screens including a massive projector in the side room. Food is great, I was actually surprised at the quality of the pizza the first time I came here and everything I've had since has also been solid, particularly the pizzas. Lots of beer selection too including those on tap, with good deals on pitchers for fight/sporting event nights. And to top it off the owner was super friendly and accommodating. Love when a place I enjoy is run by good people too. I've been watching fights religiously for about 7 or 8 years and have been to them all: BWWs, Hooters, various sports bars, etc. and this is probably my favorite one. Best pizza in all of Hayward. As a regular, I can't say enough great things about Industrial Pkwy's Straw Hat. The owner is a wonderful person. Her staff has always been good to me. The pizza is fantastic! Although, if your looking for something else, the Italian sub and french fires are amazing as well. I treated my family to lunch on Monday (to her credit, my wife chipped in 13 cents). I had wanted to take advantage of the All-You-Can-Eat Lunch Buffet for months (as I expected, the one here is much better than the one at the other Hayward location). My son Joshua was crying earlier (we came from Kaiser- he received 4 shots and got some blood work done), but he was happy to be here. He ate most of what my wife and I gave him, including some ice, and at one point he went crazy while staring at the ceiling (I can't explain everything the boy does- I think he talks to angels sometimes, probably because he's stuck with me). Our cashier was nice and helpful. He was also quick when I asked him for some mayo and ketchup (after I received my burger). I counted 5 employees. They were all casual (easy to be around). A small pepperoni, olive, and mushroom pizza reached the $15 mark to get delivery but the small is only a little more than a personal-sized pizza spanning about 9".. I've had nothing but great experiences dining here in the last few months. It's hard to find a good pizza place that can accommodate large parties. I have called a week ahead of time to reserve a spot for a team and was able to be accommodated. Heck I've even called last minute (same day) and management jumped through hoops to accommodate our team. Manager here is all about making the customer happy. During our team visits he will personally come over and check on us, gives us coupons and asks for our feedback. The pizza & salad bar is always delish and fresh. I must admit I never used to frequent this Straw Hat because I just assumed pizza would be mediocre, not the case at all. Ok after playing a few rounds of stomach roulette, I stopped coming here for awhile. When I returned there was a People Love Us on Yelp sticker. Huh? Say what? But then we had a "magical" moment that I will share with you. Sunday football is on the big screen TVs and John H and I order pizza and beer. Pizza and beer and football-if you don't find this combination appealing at all, I honestly don't think we can be friends. Well as if this wasn't already a promising start, we learn of their football beer special. On Saturdays, Sundays and Monday night during college and NFL games all pitchers of beer are $5. You read right ALL pitchers of beer-not just one kind and this during all games. They have Sierra Nevada so this makes me one happy drinker. We love this pizza place! First, the customer service is awesome! They're always friendly when we go in. One time we ordered a King pizza and had it delivered, when the pizza came it was missing a topping that we had ordered. We called back and they sent a new pizza within 20 minutes and let us keep the other pizza. That is great service! The lunch specials and buffet are great and the happy hour is amazing! Absolutely L-O-V-E it here! I come here during UFC or Boxing events with the hubby and kids. Great Energy. Sometimes its super crowded but its totally worth the good vibes and good times. I've ordered pizza here for 3 different occasions: lunch with coworkers, online/phone order carry out for home & had a birthday party with approximately 50 people including kids & teenagers. The pizza is great with a nice variety of specialty pizzas. There is a salad bar & lunch buffet if you dine in. The fountain drinks are bottomless & there is an area for beer tap (I'm not sure how that works). The appetizers are just as good as the pizza. The birthday party I had went very well here. The service was timely considering that there was another party going on at the same time. There are games kids, teenagers & adults can play for tickets. There's a quarter machine, so you don't have to worry about tokens or getting change. In the party room, there is an option to use the projector, so you can have a slideshow or a movie playing on the wall. I didn't use the projector because there are plenty of TVs around the building & my guests were busy talking to one another or playing the games. The manager is also very nice & pleasant. My fiancée & I were on vacation here in the Bay from LA. We decided to order some pizza but decided to pick something local or at least not from the big three (dominos, papa john & pizza hut). We were definitely pleased!! We have straw hat in Orange County but have never been there. We both heard about them as kids growing up. We ordered a Medium pizza that was half Meat-E-Or & half The Works. We also ordered a 12 piece order of mild buffalo wings. Everything was delicious!! The wings were moist and tender with flavor not just spice for the wings. The pizza was delicious. Nice flaky crust. Plenty of cheese and toppings. Veggies were fresh too!! We were offered condiments and plates to take to our hotel room as well. This was all done and we arrive 20 minutes before closing time. Very thoughtful of them. When my lady and I are in town again, we will definitely come back here. We will probably go visit one when we are back home too. =) read more

I would like to update my previous review on 7/10. First of all, what I should have done FIRST was to try and communicate with the manager about my issues. This would have been the FAIR thing to do, since this establishment involves other people's livelihoods. Shame on me! Since my previous review, I have spoken with the manager, Sonia. I now realize the first issue with my order being paid by cash or debit card was not Straw Hat's fault. I had gone through Grub Hub before and paid by debit card. Straw Hat's online ordering doesn't have the option to pick "debit card" for payment. As for my second issue, Sonia has discussed the situation with her employees and it won't happen again. The object of a delivery order is to get it to the customer. I really appreciate Sonia's efforts in resolving my issues here. She has been successful in gaining me back again as a satisfied customer! Thank you for working things out with me. So, of course I couldn't wait to order something from them again, I ordered the jalapeno poppers and buffalo chicken pizza. Both were superb. Let me also say I thoroughly enjoy their salad bar at lunchtime. There are very few restaurants that have salad bars these days. Straw Hat's is the best In selection of items. I drove over to straw hat and they had my order ready but instead of giving me my order that had been sitting for two hours they remade my order and canceled my door dash order. Amazingly good pizza! I had my experience with Pizza Hut in Union City for delivery and was one of the worse ever. My experience with them definitely made me want to look up a good pizza delivery on Yelp. I found this as a top hit that was nearby and I thought I would give it a try. I ordered my pizza through Yelp via Eat24 and it said that it would approximately take 45-60 mins for my pizza to arrive. I figured that is about standard since it adds flexibility time for the employees working there. 30 Minutes later, I get a phone call from the delivery guy telling me that he's in front of my door with the food and what can I say; the pizza was ON POINT! Below average pizza and poor customer service. First off, the pizza isn't very good. It's dry and the flavor is lacking, I ended up tossing half the pizza out. The lady working there was nice but they got my order wrong and weren't very accommodating about the situation. They gave me a medium when i ordered and paid for a large and completely forgot to add the extra sauce i asked for. The kicker is when i pointed out it didn't have extra sauce the guy decides to lecture me about how the sauce drys in the oven. What a joke, just take ownership of your mistake and fix it. I love this place for many reasons, but here are my top three: 1. They have gluten-free pizza. Good gluten-free pizza too that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. 2. The company is very community oriented. They like holding fundraisers for your non-profit and even make the flyer for you, advertise for you on their facebook and even post the flyers on their doors. Not many restaurants in the Hayward area are that willing to host fundraisers and Straw Hat goes above and beyond to help you succeed. 3. I've been here a couple of times now. It's a pretty awesome space. Clean and gorgeous. The bar is pretty cool, if not particularly large. They have quite a few brews on tap and a very nice television to watch sports on. I saw part of an A's game there this afternoon and really wished I had the time to just watch and drink a beer or two. I'm a pretty big fan of Straw Hat Pizza, but I have to say their sandwiches are some of the best in the area. They come with some wedges which are very well spiced. I grew up going to pizza joints instead of always getting delivery and this joint really is what I like to see in a pizza place. Great place to hang out with friends. We watched the fights and it was packed. They have a lot of screens and even turned some facing outside for people who didn't fit. (What nice guys). Came here for the lunch buffet. For $7 bucks (drinks included) I can't complain. The pizza was good & the salad bar was good as well. They also had potato wedges and bread sticks out too. They only had 2 pizzas out at a time, but they replaced them very fast if they ran out. The place is decorated pretty good to for a pizza joint. BIG TVs alllll over the place! We always have our team sports parties here and the staff is always so gracious. Tons of room for kids to play and plenty of tv's to watch the game and have a beer. Straw Hat used to be the #3 Pizza Chain in the Bay Area (Behind Round Table and Pizza Hut). Pizza Hut bought out Straw Hat in the 1980s, but a few of the franchises managed to stay in business, despite being driven away from many parts of the area, leaving I think a dozen stores in the Bay Area. The Straw Hat concept was really the pre-California Pizza California Pizza. They were doing Chicken BBQ Pizzas ages before anyone but Wolfgang Puck. The crust is always really good, and when I re-tasted it all this past summer, I totally remembered it from when I was a kid. The toppings are really good, with some of the best sausage you'll ever find. I'd say they were better than ROund Table, but nowhere near the price. THe game room is kid crappy, but I enjoy a good foozball game, so no star deduction. read more

I put an online order and it was ready within 30 min for pick up. When I got to there one of the employees (I think she was possibly the owner/manager) noticed that one of my pizzas included onions when I had ordered it without, and she immediately offered to have the kitchen make a fresh new one correctly and had me keep the wrong order free of charge. Decent pizza in a "dead zone". This plaza doesn't have much going for it. Basically the only spots for food is Starbucks and Straw Hat. An easy commercial area to miss due to the corporate exterior. My brother's company card gave us an additional free large pizza with a purchase of one. The crust isn't good enough to finish. After my first slice I just left the hard ends for the compost bin. Garlic chicken is good and "The Works" is your typical combination pizza. They can get your pizza order ready for pickup in 10-15 minutes. The interior is quite nice.
