This is a great sub shop! Awesome bread. Owners are awesome and food is delicious every time

I stopped by the Sub Shack for dinner on a week day and I'm glad I did. Located on the outskirts of downtown, this sub shop is a hidden gem. They share a shopping center with several other businesses. Parking won't be a problem. Ambiance (3/5): Pretty much a no-frills restaurant More of a grab-and-go type spot, but they do have 10 or so tables inside. And they have free WiFi. Which is always a plus in my book, as I did some work as I chowed down. Service (4.5/5): The owner was the only one working and he's a friendly guy. You order your food at the counter and he will bring it to your table. He checked in with me several times to see if I had everything I needed and asked what I thought about the food. Drinks (3.5/5): Bottled beverages are offered at Sub Shack. I went with an Arizona Iced Tea. I typically prefer soft drinks because they tend to be cheaper than bottled beverages, but bottled is the only way to go here. Food (4.5/5): I've been to a lot of sub shops over the years, both chains and local shops. Sub Shack reminds me a lot of Jersey Mike's. They both focus on the quality of their deli meats. And you can taste it. Very much Italian focused with the offerings. I went with two subs, their two most popular subs: the pizza sub and the Italian supreme. Both were good, but the pizza sub was my favorite. The melted cheese was so good---I'm always a sucker for some pull factor. They top their subs with a delicious blend of spices including oregano which is a nice touch. I also appreciated the combination of Italian meets you get in the Italian supreme. These subs are filling and served open-faced. I saw an ad on Facebook for Sub Shack. Upon providing them with my information, I received a coupon for buy one sub, get one free. I wish they were open a little later, but outside of that, the best sub spot I've been to in Phoenix since I moved here back in January (eight months ago).

A hidden gem ... well worth the trip! Quality ingredients, homemade sandwich breads, all tasty treats. Good size portions and affordable prices .. with daily specials. Owned by Richard, who ensured we felt welcomed and provided excellent service... John assured me we'll be back ... he said the Cuban sandwich was the best he ever had... this from a Jersey boy who was born in Havana... that's saying a lot!!!

    Hot Italian

Went in to get a sub sandwich as this is one of my favorite sandwich spots drive at least 10 miles from my house to get it. The hot Italian is a new hit. I love it the garlic and herb or the Parmesan bread. All the breads are so amazing and tasty. The owner is really nice so are his workers. This is a spot you can't miss hitting the sandwiches are good all of them.! The atmosphere is very clean and the food is just the best authentic sandwiches you can get! Stop going to chains and support this locally owned spot!

Massive shoutout to Rich. I saw a facebook ad slightly before 3 and called to see how late they were open, he said if I could make it there before 3:30 he'd made me a sub as he cashing out. The subs were really great, bread is made in house and everything tasted super fresh.

I don't think this is a 5 star sandwich shop. The service was fine and seating area very clean, but the sandwich was just bland. The bread is very soft and lacks texture, underbaked in my opinion. The portions are just ok and the value just isn't there either for $20 combo with tip. I'd pass.

I came here because last time I had come they sold out of bread. I will say I don't love it and didn't hate it. There was just nothing that stood out. The place was very quiet. There were about 3 of us in there. I ordered a turkey sub which came with American (yellow) cheese, pickles, mayo, onion, lettuce, tomato. I think the bread was soft, but nothing stood out. My sandwich tasted like a regular sub. The customer service was great. Very nice & friendly. Answered questions about the menu.

Great quality food, a clean and well kept location, and really nice people. Not much else you could ask for from a quick lunch spot.

The Best Subs would have given 5 stars but hours suck and when you get there 45 minutes before they close out of bread.

As soon as we walked in, we both said, "This isn't what we were expecting." It's a large open dining area with tables and about four or five booths with counter-style ordering. They have a water station set up where you grab your own waters and find a table to sit at, and then they will bring out your food. Based on the name, we assumed we would be seated by a hostess and the menu would be full of breads, different kinds of pastries, and country-style foods, but it's actually mostly Mexican dishes with a few country-style dishes thrown in. We ended up ordering the Crispy Chorizo & Potato tacos and the biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon to share. The tacos were good; they are filled with whipped potatoes and chorizo, but the biscuits and gravy were just basic biscuits and gravy. The scrambled eggs on both dishes were WAY overcooked and had zero flavor. Not sure if they misunderstood my husband when he ordered the side of bacon crispy; that also meant to cook the eggs that way too? Overall, it was a good experience. The espresso martini was good, and the staff were really friendly. I'm just not sure it was good enough to stop in again.

Randomly I thought about them and was shocked they had gluten free bread now. And she hates mustard but left it on, guess what, it's her favorite! Everything was just as we remember. It will be back on our regular rotation. My only complaint is the sides. I have never been a fan of the sides and they haven't changed lol. I wish there was a less adventurous side option, like fruit or a simple salad. But I think I am alone in the complaint lol. I went with the bang bang burger and kale salad -- a side comes with the lunch sandwiches. I was hesitant on kale but she mentioned it gets great feedback and I am glad I tried it! The kale salad has citrus and other goodies in it (sorry, I forget what!) and the kale wasn't tough at all. The dressing is lightly sweet and refreshing. Definitely recommend! The bang bang burger was delicious and filling without being overly heavy. They also had cans of local beer - Huss Blonde and Papago Orange Blossom - and a couple of speciality cocktails, along with various canned and bottled non-alcoholic drinks and fountain drinks. Its a cute shop with a patio and one side was open to the nice weather. A woman stopped to check in - I think she was the manager - who was really nice. Looking forward to coming back for a breakfast sandwich! (And more kale salad)
