I cannot really explain how much we loved SugarFire until a couple of years ago. We ate there at least once a week. The last half a dozen times we have been there and ordered brisket it has been more than half fat despite asking for lean cut. We are tired of trying. We will be going elsewhere. We love all their creative menu items and would really like to keep going there but the brisket is a waste of money. And it's not cheap. We met our friends the L's at Sugar Fire in O'Fallon for lunch. I have been to the location on Olive a number of times, so was happy to see how they are doing in becoming a big chain. We found the barbecue to be consistent with the Olive location, good, not spectacular. This location is considerably easier to negotiate. It has more space and better parking. The Olive location is a pain on both accounts. My two-meat combo had Brisket and Pulled Pork. Ms T had a Turkey sandwich and I ordered a half rack just to try those as well. Leftovers can always be chopped, mixed and sauced a little for great sandwiches even if the barbecue is not stellar. Don't get me wrong, this is good but you will get better brisket at Big Baby Q or Salt & Smoke. This was not quite done to the right tender point, a routine problem in St Louis. The Pulled pork is a solid effort and was not dried out. I just thought both lacked smoke, bark and seasoning. The slaw is average and boring. It was stale and limp and lacked backbone. I did really like the mac 'n' cheese. 08/18 - More recently we returned with Aunt Annie. I had the same combo; pulled pork and brisket. The brisket was well rubbed and had a good bark, but was dry and sliced the wrong direction. You can't slice brisket with the grain. It would not have worked on a sandwich. The pork is moist, but without any flavor of rub or smoke. Good barbecue does not want sauce. This needed sauce. The turkey was still very good. Both times it has been moist with delicate smoke and keeping turkey breast from drying out is an accomplishment. Slaw is still bland, prepared like a bowl of Wheaties with milk and sugar. The beans and franks are terribly sweet. Come on guys, offer some savory beans! The baked hash browns were very good. I think it was like 4 years ago we went to the downtown location and had great food and fun. This time it was just my daughter and I. This location is a lot smaller but still busy and efficient. The decor is bbq fun. Walked right thru the line and got our order. Unfortunately they were out of beans. I tried the broccoli salad. Not sweet like others, I really liked it. I got the apple pie applesauce. Super smooth. Seems like a kid thing... Not too much cinnamon... It was ok but next time I might try the Greek or cauliflower salad. The brisket was perfect. My son had been skeptical of trying a meat sandwich-- he always goes for grilled cheese-- but we talked him into trying a kids meal Turkey sandwich (with American cheese on top). Came here for the first time because of a recommendation from a friend. Ordered the Turkey plate with Mac and cheese and turkey bacon party potatoes. It's a sad skimpy two slices of turkey for $15. It was wrapped in aluminum, it was so tiny I thought it was cornbread or something. I asked was this everything? the lady said yes. I was in disbelief. It was also wrapped up togo, when I was planning on dinning in, they didn't bother to ask me. The lady gave me the tray back with the bag after I said it's dine in, she's like "oh.. I'll let you keep the bag" They also failed to give me a drink cup that came with the plate, so that I could wash down this dry azz turkey. The only reason I knew the plate came with a drink was after looking over the menu again and contemplating where I went wrong. Let's just say I'd rather do the 3 hour drive to KC to fulfill my bbq crave. Also that "friend" that recommended this place... we are no longer friends. That's how bad this meal was... First trip I had turkey and brisket which I highly recommend while second time was a half rack of baby back ribs and are a must try as well. The BBQ beans are some of the best I've had and the hash brown casserole is tasty but heavy, fries are okay. Portions are large so you'll leave here full. The tea here is pretty good too, though you might want a little extra sugar if you need it extra sweet. Service is quick since you order at the counter and they serve you right then, no waiting. This place had the great smell when we pulled in the parking lot. Stars the evening passing through St. Louis and found this place. Very welcoming, but also very busy. If you've got a big group (5+), we noticed it was tough to grab a table. They have 4 tables of 8 inside (all were being shared) and 4-5 big tables outside. We had a group of 4 and were able to share a table. All the meat was delicious. I got the salmon and brisket and it was perfect. When I lived in STL, I frequently visited their location on Olive. Now, whenever I visit I just have to stop. On this trip, I tried this location. And I have to say that it didn't disappoint. They had the same menu I've come to love, awesomely creative specials and bangin' food! We visited around 5p on a Thursday in February. We entered their covered and heated patio. Don't go in the door straight ahead! That's the exit apparently. Go through the door that's down to the left. This entrance funnels you through to the proper place to order. Mom and I decided to share one of the day's specials - tots loaded with bacon, jack cheese sauce, brisket, bbq sauce and an over easy egg plus a side (sausage and kale soup, another special). While the brisket isn't my personal favorite of their meat options, this choice was solid. They really did load it up with plenty of meat - no skimping here! They also offer a plethora of awesome sauces. All of the tables inside are high tops, which didn't work for us (because of having an infant in a car seat). So we sat in their covered patio, which had tables on regular height. Even though it was quite cold outside (25-30 degrees) the patio was the perfect temperature! UPDATE: Everything continues to be awesome, except the fries! Sugarfire, I am sure you can do better than the dry and sad little pieces of potato chips! Please become Uber awesome by upgrading the fries (PS: if you're looking for inspiration, I would suggest looking at 5 guys). If you're from STL, this place needs no introduction. If you're coming from out of town, this is a must try place. Apart from the delicious food, the ambience and decor are pretty nice and you can see the owner put quite a bit of effort to project the right kind of ambience: relaxed, casual and hip. Of course, most people come for the food and this place gets top marks for that. Apart from the pulled pork and brisket, the burger is very nicely done as well. Two things to try out besides the usual fare: 1. The chicken biscuit! The chicken is very well spiced, not too hot, and not bland.The biscuit is warm and flaky. I take mine without the honey butter, since the biscuit is pretty rich on its own. Ask for yours on the side, just so it doesn't get too buttered up. 2. All the amazing sauces!! My favorites are Carolina mustard and Texas hot! Try a different one each time! The one thing I might change would be the fries. Admittedly, years of conditioning has impressed upon me that McD fries are the ideal ones. The pulled pork is second in the entire STL area. I enjoyed the hot sauce and coffee based sauce. This location has indoor seating for about 40, and outdoor seating for 20-30. All of the indoor tables are high boys. Looks like the big push is for carry out. Read the menu before you go...once you spot the man slicing the meat your head may begin to spin! I hate to write this review but I reached out to this restaurant and never heard back. I have picked up food from this location 2 weekends in a row for my husband and me. The first time I ordered the brisket and was disappointed that there was so much fat. I ended up throwing 1/2 of it away as it was pure fat. The part that was meat was really good. I chalked it up to ordering the wrong thing as brisket tends to be fatty anyway. On May 19 I ordered on line so I wouldn't have to wait. I was surprised to find that the system added on a 15% tip even though I chose no tip. I did call and was told that the tip amount of $5+ would be credited and it would take several days. Fine - chalked that up to the ordering system and decided I wouldn't order on line again. BUT, when I went to get my order I had several issues. One, the staff was really not friendly - unlike the prior weekend. They gave me my order and before I walked out I noticed that the bottle of soda was not in the bag. When I mentioned that to the woman at the register, she just said well just go get one over there. Ok - did that. Then when I got to the car, I thought I had better check my order. I noticed that one of the sides was not in the bag so I went in and they gave me the side. Ok - no apology but ok. Then when I got home saw there was no BBQ sauce in the bag but I had included that in my order and it was on the receipt attached to the bag. So my husband had to improvise for his ribs. Disappointing. He liked his ribs but my cheeseburger was very disappointing. Very overcooked, not much of a burger at all. The McDonalds burger is bigger and actually better than what I got. In addition, I had paid extra for the grilled onions and just got regular onions not the balsamic grilled onions. Overall really a bad experience. It is bad enough when the order is incomplete and the food is not good but then to have unfriendly staff. So very disappointed!!! Do not think I will be ordering or going there again which is a shame because it is so convenient. But there are some issues at the restaurant that need to be addressed. Someone should be checking the orders before they are given out, the staff needs customer service training and better quality checking on the food given out. When there's a line out the door, you know you the food is great. Popped in around 7 on a Friday night (yes all the way from KC) to have dinner with some colleagues and it only took a few minutes to get through the line. But shortly after I sat down, the line had gone out the door...so I'd recommend showing up earlier rather than later. Having eaten previously at the St. Charles location, I had a pretty good idea of what I was in for. Turkey, brisket, and pulled pork with some fries and brisket infused Mac & Cheese were just the start. The turkey, per usual, was perfect; still a little juicy and very tender with that hint of smoke flavor. The brisket had a little more fat left up top than I was expecting, but it didn't matter because it just melted in my mouth like meat butter. And the pulled pork seemed really fresh and piping hot, so I had to let it cool down a bit...with some honey badger bbq sauce. All the meats were A+, the brisket Mac & Cheese was as well. The fries are still just fries and I couldn't hardly eat any after finishing the rest anyways. But I did save room for a peanut butter bourbon boozy shake and it was perfect. While I don't recommend making a 7 hour round trip on a Friday night for it, if you're a local or passing through, Sugarfire is definitely your best BBQ destination in the St. Charles/STL proper area. read more

We had the pulled pork, ribs and brisket with macaroni & cheese and baked beans with burnt ends as sides. The ribs are pricey and weren't overly meaty. Much easier to smoke my own and mine are just as good. Pulled pork was good. I didn't care for the brisket but that might be just me. It was very soft and a very fatty consistency even though it wasn't actually fat. Maybe that's just how brisket is supposed to be. Macaroni & cheese was just ok. Baked beans were great. One of the things I love about Sugarfire are the daily specials. It makes every visit a new experience. When my wife and I have a day off together she almost always asks me what the Sugarfire special is for lunch. Today I had the Hot Brown special which had smoked turkey, ham, house made bacon, mournay sauce, cheddar cheese, and tomatoes on Texas toast. It was delicious as usual.
