Second time eating at the flatiron location for dinner and what I love is not having to think about what I'm going to order! I got the Trust Me Lite and it was delicious - Sugarfish offers consistency in a great way. My date got the Trust Me, and we were both perfectly stuffed. Only negatives is them not having grenadine to put in my Diet Coke, and the bathrooms were a mess. Also a random thing we noticed was our server wearing a mask as if she had Covid or something! But all around great time and the wait was only around 30 mins tops.

This was my first time trying sugarfish but I have heard raving reviews. This is an omikase style cozy sushi restaurant. They don't take reservations, but when we arrived they had a large waiting room upstairs, and we were sat within 20 minutes. We all got the omikase pre-decided courses but in varying sizes. We also got a few extra pieces and rolls to try out their limited time items. Overall, the quality of fish was really great. I especially loved the unique cut of fatty tuna that i ordered on the side. I think the value for these meals is great as well. However, the service was very confusing, as they didn't seem to know what they were serving us. Servers asked us whether we received a certain course yet, which I thought was odd. I could see how it is hard to manage given we all got different sized meals, but this is unexpected at a higher end sushi place.

It is pretty popular. You need to grab a reservation. The sushi is good and they are known for their chefs choice. The ambience is dark and a cute date night. Overall good vibes.

First time not getting the Trust Me options and just going off the nigiri menu as I wasn't looking for a full meal. I got Hokkaido scallops, bluefin chutoro, and salmon kombu. All were delicious, but the salmon kombu was my surprise favorite. The prices are high though. Service was very attentive and I enjoyed sitting at the bar.

Think of the omakases I've tried, think this one ranked the bottom, keeping mind of the price. Starting with the good. The fish was fine. Favorite was the first dish. Tuna was fresh. Just a little salty from the soy. Also up front that there's no tip. The rest...not so good. The soy sauce is like regular kikkoman regular soy sauce. The edamame was salty. The nigiri pieces they added soy sauce already...was salty. The rice was mushy too. Which is a shame because I did like the amount of vinegar and sugar added. But then when they added soy sauce, the whole thing just fell apart and barely can pick up. And then again...salty. And then look wise, the nigiri just looked like slapped together and not shaped Now as for tipping policy...no tipping and it shows. The servers just look and act like they're just fed up and going thru the motions. There are definitely omakase places out there that are magnitudes more worth just paying like $10-20 more. Heck I prefer regular sushi places over this. Still....cant beat the price of $40 and no tipping.

Loved our experience here, but omg the prices. We did takeout and brought our sushi to the park to enjoy, which I highly recommend. All of the fish was very obviously fresh and high quality, but I was disappointed by how poorly the rice held together. We all ended up losing half of the rice on each roll/piece. I love the suggestions on the box and the different sauces that go with different fish. I don't know if I would choose this as my place to visit again in the city for sushi, but we did enjoy it!

SUGARFISH is a great place to visit if you're craving quality sushi that doesn't break the bank. We found their Trust Me Lite was the perfect amount for a filling lunch. You don't need to worry about indecisiveness as it comes with a hand roll, three nigiri pieces, edamame, & sashimi. They're also a non-tipping establishment so the service is already included in the $30 price. This is amazing value considering how many different items you receive. Food-wise, their sushi was fresh & well seasoned! You can tell they take pride in serving only quality. The main downsides were due to being so busy you do feel rushed & they were forgetful in bringing out some of our items. Otherwise loved this experience and the concept of the Trust Me Menu. It's brilliant!

Fish cuts are thin and not like many of the other omakase places. Rice fell apart too easily, felt hastily put together. Tried the Nozawa Trust Me box, was not as satisfying as I thought. Dine in set is different from to-go set which was not communicated by the staff - seems like they still need training. Small restaurant with dim lighting. Nothing stood out and I'm not sure why this place has so much hype. Would not recommend and will not be coming back.

Absolutely wonderful staff and service, everyone super friendly on point and pleasant. Loved this location it was fun to watch the staff work while at the bar. The food is unbelievable everything was amazing didnt need soy sauce or wasabi. Melt in your mouth, fresh and flavorful. Definitely recommend for any sushi lovers. Iced green tea was smooth and lovely.

BEST SUSHI. Simple & perfect. Sat at the bar and it was such a vibe. Service was efficient.

This place never gets old. The best sushi and such a good value. "Trust me" every time.

I love SUGARFISH! The fish is consistently high quality and delicious. This visit would have been 5 stars except for the slow service. I usually have a great experience with service at SUGARFISH, but it was challenging to get our server's attention. Also when we got the bill, there was no pen to fill out the birthday club checkin form and it was challenging to get a pen.

    Michelle S.

We ordered the Nozawa Trust Me, which I had tried before and was really impressed by. This time, some of the fish had a slightly fishy taste, but it was still quite enjoyable overall. The service was attentive and accommodating, especially since I was on a time crunch, which I really appreciated. I also love the cozy, dim setting, it makes for a relaxing dining experience. Overall, while the fish wasn't as perfect as my previous visit, the combination of good service, atmosphere, and tasty sushi makes Sugarfish worth coming back to.

I want to order "to go trust me" boxes! How many will be filling for 2 people?

I notice the description said SUGARFISH is two floors. I was wondering if there are elevators for wheelchairs or amputees with crutches? Or would they herd us to wait for only a lower floor table like many places in NYC do?

The top floor is a waiting room . They do have elevators but the dining takes place on the first floor

Lets say i want a 830 dinner. Am i able to go at 3pm and request for that time slot? Or do i have to go 2.5-3hrs before at 530-6pm and wait it out?

Yes, you have to go in advance and wait it out.

I downloaded the no wait app and it says special event...does this mean it's closed today 5/18/18?

It says this bc they use the NoWait system, but only allow you to get on the list itself by physically going inside. Once your name is on the list, NoWait will tell you how long you should expect to wait, how many parties are in front of you, etc.

Hello. Are you open for Memorial Day today?

No. Only closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Years Day, Memorial, and Labor Day.

Is there an app for wait times?

    Yes. It's called No Wait.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

We walked into an intimate and quiet setting, with bar seating along the counter that gave us the full chef interaction experience. The room is well suited for a date or a focused dinner with a small group, and the atmosphere stayed calm and centered throughout the meal. The fish quality is the foundation and it held up across every course. The ikura was notably clean without the fishiness that less carefully sourced versions carry. The fluke topped with its own fin is the kind of preparation that you do not encounter often in the city, but it paired well with the entire meal. The madai, hamachi, kanpachi, king salmon, yuzu ikura, and foie gras courses were all good, and the flavor combinations across the progression showed a considered approach to how one piece set up the next. The hand rolls used nori that was fresh enough to chew cleanly without resistance, a small detail that affected every bite. The rice to fish ratio was handled correctly, which is the baseline technical requirement for omakase that not every kitchen meets. The chefs prepared everything in front of us and engaged with the table throughout the meal in a way that felt natural rather than performative. Modifications for dietary preferences were accommodated with care rather than reluctance. Service was attentive without hovering, and the pacing of the 15 courses moved at a comfortable rhythm that never felt rushed or delayed. For omakase in New York at this price and quality level, Sanyuu West is one of the more compelling options available. We left satisfied, impressed by the consistency across the board, and already thinking about when we could return. It is the kind of meal that reminds you why omakase is worth the investment when done right.
