The first time I came here was for take out because there was a $5 off coupon if you ordered off of ritual. I read the reviews on yelp and google to pick the green curry which seemed to be the most recommended item. At first glance I thought the portion was very small, especially the 1mm thick meat slices that seemed to get overcooked easily. However, the sauce (curry) to rice ratio was absolutely perfect. Taste wise, it was also very delicious. I just wish there was thicker chunks of meat and more veggies. Today I went here today with a group. We made reservations beforehand and as such, were seated quickly during their lunchtime rush. I got the pennag curry. Again, a very delicious curry with ultra thin slices of meat and in a perfect rice to curry ratio. I chose the medium spicy level our of the 4 levels, and it was way too mild. Almost like no spice! Next time, I would choose "spicy." My colleagues ordered 2 apps that I was a bit disappointed to get a first because tofu nuggets did not sound appealing to me... however, I was pleasantly amazed!! The tofu was soft but had a crunchy coating that was not oily at all. The dipping sauce was also addicting. Everyone loved this dish as well as the calamari. The calamari was the juiciest calamari I ever had... the coating was just mushy. If it were crispy, it would definitely be the BEST calamari ever... The last thing I wanted to note was that the pad thai portions are HUGE. My collegues mentioned that 1 serving could eat 2 or even 4 people... Needless to say, they both took half of their noodles home. Considering that the pad thai costs the exact same as the curries, next time I would choose the pad thai which I think is way more value! Ultimately, Sukhothai is not my favourite thai place but is good enough for me to go back and try more items. read more

Was here tonight with two of my good friends, and was so ready to satisfy my Thai cravings! To be honest, I really wanted Thai curry, and had my mind set on ordering either the red curry with squash (Gaeng Phed) or the Masaman curry. But when I got there and asked the waiter whether he would recommend the masaman or the pad gra prow, I felt I had to go with his recommendation of the latter. My friends ordered the emerald / green curry (Gaeng Kiaw Wan) with a normal spicy level, as well as the Gaeng Phed with Thai spicy. Both were solid options; I found that the sweet creaminess of the coconut milk really helped in balancing the spiciness of the dishes. I really enjoyed that the green curry lacked any overwhelming taste of canned bamboo shoots - it had a great coconut spice flavour. The red curry was also surprisingly yummy; the squash imparted a lovely and subtle nutty sweetness. Both my friends licked their plates clean! I likewise thoroughly enjoyed my pad gra prow, though I did find it a little too greasy. I got normal spice, and although I loved the spicy kick present in each bite, I really struggled to eat it! By the middle, the top of my mouth was burning with a vicious and fiery heat. I ended up eating all the rice, and packing half of the minced chicken to go! The place was quite busy when we arrived shortly past 6, and remained busy even when we left at 8. Do make a reservation if you're worried about seating! There was little flavour to it even after I squeezed 3 limes into the noodles so it was a big disappointment. As for my friend, he liked the taste of the Pad Thai however did not like the texture of the noodles. I believe he described it as kind of chewy and not soft. The portions here were large so that was a plus as we were hungry. Overall the food did not turn out how I envisioned so I left disappointed and almost ended up at another Thai restaurant that same day. The service here is pretty standard fare. The staff were friendly and the food came quickly but other than that nothing really stands out. The decor here kind of reminds me of other Thai restaurants with the rustic feel. The large windows in the restaurant allowed a lot of light into the restaurant so it was fairly bright overall. Made a reservation for 615 on a Thursday night but ended up getting there closer to 640. Still had plenty of seats around that time. The place only picked up when we left closer to 8. Food was good but I personally felt like there were no flavours that made it superior or distinct from other thai restaurants if you know what I mean. Portions were huge and had to take home half of my mildly spicy chicken pad thai. The thai iced tea was good as well, slightly on the sweeter side. Nothing to complain about the service which some people below noted there was a lack of. Our server came at appropriate times and we were in and out of the restaurant in less than 2 hours. The only thing is that I got really thirsty a few hours later when I got home and it might have been from the food. Sure, I would come again if I were in the area. +.5 for service It's been a while since I've been to Sukho. Previously I've only went to the Parliament branch, but with more branches open I wanted to give another branch a try. I picked this one as it was convenient in where I wanted to go later. I just missed the lunch rush as I arrived at 1pm on a Friday. Tables were about to clear, and I landed a table almost immediately. In fact it died down so fast that by 2pm, the place was completely empty. Admittedly I've been too fancy with Thai restaurant orders (see some of my recent Thai reviews), so I played it simple this time: just order a pad thai. The place may be steep for $16.50, but you're definitely paying for one of the highest quality pad thai you can get in the city. Everything was well presented up to the sauce and noodle quality. It's definitely one of my top 3 picks in Toronto (Pai and Sabai Sabai being the other two; haven't tried Kiin yet). Service was attentive even when it was busy. The food did take a while to come, but great quality does take time. I'm giving this 4 stars as I don't think I tried enough items to give a decisive 5 stars. Solid 3.5 stars. I'm often in closer proximity to Pai and KSR so I have good reason to not have been to Sukho Thai in ages. The place was packed on Thursday at 7 p.m. so we waited 20 minutes for seats. I guess it's because they were super busy because we ordered within 5 minutes of being seated and the food took over 30 minutes to arrive. Server was very attentive and came by to refill our water throughout our meal. Ordered the chicken khao soi and it was exactly how I remembered it. Could've been more generous with the portion of chicken but the creaminess of the curry soup was pretty amazing. BTW, didn't see a rat. read more

The Khao Soi is a must try, the curry based soup is a perfect blend of flavours. The pad thai is on the sweeter end, which is not my personal preference, however the portion is huge!!! Everything tasted great and were presented beautifully at reasonable portions. I think the price might be a bit higher than the average thai place and the service is always hit or miss. There's not much consistency in that aspect. So one time we made a reservation because we had a table for 8 and we knew it would be a busy night. We get there and though many staff saw us, none greeted us... they just told everyone to wait.. But I saw an empty table to the back and figured it must be for our reservation because there's no other table of 8 standing around. We waited for a while and finally just walked up to a staff and said we had a reservation and no one was greeting us. She pointed to the table at the back and gestured to have a seat... It was also right next to a big birthday party. They then proceeded to tell us it would be a 30 minute wait at minimum for food tonight so we placed our orders quickly. The dessert in the end was forgotten and so we cancelled it before we would be told its another half an hour next to this extremely noisy party. The dinner experience was not so great. If you've ever been to PAI, you won't be disappointed with Sukho Thai. I believe this is the sister restaurant as the menu is very similar if not the exact same. The food was definitely up to par as I ordered the Beef Khao Soi (absolute favourite). They tasted the exact same and satisfied my thai cravings. Staff was friendly but slow, and the wait time was longer than usual and they were sold out of the squash fritters. Sukhothai is a cozy restaurant across from a beautiful park in the financial district. I appreciate how there are quite a few seats inside compared to many restaurants downtown. I went for lunch around 1pm and there was no wait. I ordered the Khao Soi with chicken as recommended to me by my friend (she loves Sukhothai!) and it was truly delightful. The curry gravy was flavourful and the chicken was very tender. If you like spicy food, I would recommend getting more than medium spice. The only thing that deters me from going regularly is the price (16.50 for Khao Soi) but as this restaurant is in financial district, I understand why it must be priced this way. If you don't know what to get, I would recommend the Khao Soi with chicken or the pad thai. You can't go wrong with the heavenly yellow curry with noodles and garnished with crispy noodles nor can you resist the tangy sweetness of the pad thai with beef. It is also extremely loud and you have to practically yell for the person beside you to hear you. Bad customer service. Went there this afternoon around 4 pm on feb/28/2022. He asked for a QR which I didn't have. I am fully vaccinated and tried to show him the vaccine papers. I have dined here in the past and I've always felt like my experiences have always been between 3-4 stars. There's so much more than can be done to achieve that 5 stars experience for their diners. Our ritual order quoted an hour to prepare and we gave it a chance to see if it would be done a little earlier (like 10 minutes). It ended being a total of 80 minutes for prep time. Had to inquire about one meal that didn't include a pop but we ended up getting it anyways. I tried the pad gra prow for the first time and it was delicious. I had not been here for several years and had forgotten the rules of Sukho Thai! First, however, this restaurant and chain are sisters to Pai and a certain level of quality is expected and granted. That said, nothing is automatic and one has to remain objective. I was here for a lunch take-out and was impressed. For those who like to have lunch at noon this restaurant is a better option than Pai. They open at 11:30. Pai opens its doors at noon only. The food here was tasty, it felt authentic, the quantity was adequate and the prices were reasonable. Options at sub $20 are a bargain nowadays. The Pad Thai was tasty and enhanced by the sweet and hot sauce. The peanuts were in a container to the side. It is difficult to imagine anyone sensitive to peanuts would visit a Thai restaurant however. The Green Curry was quite milky and I realized afterwards reading my own old review that their mild is really... mild. Delicious food, feeling of authenticity and good prices even more so given their central downtown location. I should be back more quickly than my last interval. read more

When someone said this was their favorite Thai restaurant in the city of Toronto, I HAD to try it. When I read that they are related to Sabai Sabai (my favorite Thai place in Toronto), I was here for my next meal. I even dragged my team members with me. In case you were wondering about the name, Sukhothai was the capital of the first Kingdom of Siam in the 13th and 14th centuries. It also means "the dawn of happiness". The restaurant was nicely decorated and was inviting. We were seated in a comfortable half booth table. As I looked over the menu, I could see the similarities between here and Sabai (e.g. shrimp chips and tamarind dip and the khao soi). Their most popular dishes are the Pad Thai and the Khao Soi. In addition to their regular menu, they offer a lunch menu including everyday specials and daily curry specials. The price range on the lunch menu is $9-$14. Sukho Chicken Pad Thai - $13 - I asked the waiter what the differences were between this and the regular pad Thai. He said the Sukho one comes with peanuts, herbs and lemon. I guess it's like paying an extra $1 for condiments. The portion was quite large, but that was the only thing I was impressed with. It had good flavoring and I like the bits of tofu in it. What ruined it for me were the soggy noodles that were sticking together. Could it have been the lemon that did that? Thai Iced Tea - $4 - This is the bright orange kind. Pretty good, large sized glass, but pricey. Although my first experience here didn't win me over, I would definitely come back to try some of their other dishes. read more

With toronto being such a huge destination for food now it's hard to not walk by a thai resto in downtown toronto. We just so happen to be in the st lawerence area and thought to try this raving restaurant. Coming in at prime time on a Saturday night, we had to wait approximately 10 minutes. Service seemed to be quick and server's were popping dishes out quickly. Got our seat and immediately was asked to order. We split the calamari and the shrimp spring roll. Both were good but stingy in portion size considering the price. Shrimp spring rolls came out hot and was mainly filled with shrimp meat. Calamari size is a little smaller for 10$.. It came with 2 different sides (one a fish sauce and the other a pickled veg). My sister and I ordered the khao Soi which is basically a yellow curry broth with egg noodles and crunchy egg noodles and your side of protein. Both of us got beef and found that it was super rough and not tender at all. Usually in chinese cooking you use this meat while slow cooking the tendon... But it was overly rough and not that great. Hubby got the pad thai spicy and it definitely did not come spicy... So the server had to bring chilli oil out and he said after it was good. We also got the thai iced tea and that was a little too sweet for my liking but still tasty. Overall I've had better thai food before but the service was fast and efficient. read more

So we came here after the Jay's game and we were seated very quickly, there were a few open tables. First time here based on Yelp reviews I had read. I liked how clean the restaurant was but didn't like how close together the tables were. I couldn't really focus on the conversations at hand because everyone around me was so loud and distracting. the server was okay, she was was kind of pushy and wanted us to order right away. she had no patience to answer questions or deal with coming back. I was pretty annoyed by that. after we ordered she never came back to ask how things were going, I had to flag her down to order more; again I found that pretty rude. When we asked for the bill, it was instructed to go to the front to pay. I know it was an honest mistake because I even asked my bf how much he tipped and he said the standard 15% for her doing her job. She came running over with the bill to say "only 1% tip, wow" - now I understand she was taken aback by it, but that reaction was just rude. when he apologized to say can we swipe my card again her response was "you know that's not possible." we literally put whatever change we had together to leave her more of a tip but just the way she went about it was so uncalled for. One can blame it on culture; but the purpose of my rant is that it's not right. ON to the food: it was delicious, I had the veggie pad thai with peanut sauce (extra 50 cents) and he had the chicken curry with noodles. food was full of flavour and presented very nicely.
