We have been looking for great Chinese food in the Glendale and Burbank area and we finally found it at this place. Delicious egg rolls with a sweet and sour sauce. The sweet and sour chicken is one of the best I have ever had with a nice red sauce. The fried rice with excellent with all the great flavors I have come to expect from eating Chinese food all my life. My husband ordered the beef lo mein and it was absolutely spot on! After a fun day at Six Flags Magic Mountain, we had a hankering for some GOOD Chinese food. I yelped a few places within distance from the I-5 fwy and found Sun Moon Garden. We were looking for a family style restaurant that locals approved of. Sun Moon Garden is a modest little establishment with booth-style seating and tables for small/big groups. It's not very big and once seated, it almost feels like you are sitting thisclose to the table next to you. We happened to be seated right next to a huge family with 4 LOUD kids who decided to dine in their p.j.s. The dinner menu options are reasonable: there are several combination dishes under $10 and come with soup, rice, egg roll, and a fried shrimp. i went with the Shanghai Shrimp. It was very good and came loaded with snap peas and water chestnuts. i wasn't a fan of the fried rice or the egg roll. The hot and sour soup was amazing. I could have just ordered that and been happy. My sister was disappointed with her Orange Chicken, which lacked the orange taste. The Chow Mein was also a big disappointment and so was the Sweet and Sour chicken which had a piece of scrap aluminum foil deeply imbedded in the center of the dish. My husband was not too enthused about this finding. Also as part of their Customer Appreciation promotion, they gave us a dish of salt and pepper fried shrimp - with heads intact. Those were very tasty -- just not all that into beheading and deveining shrimp at the dinner table, ya know? The service was quick but in most instances, incoherent - but i think we all got through the evening by just pointing at the menu and speaking in broken English. I don't think I would return only because I have had better Chinese fare closer to home. Side note: And to the table next to us with the loud LOUD mother yelling at her kids to shut up -- PLEASE, just order take-out next time and save the rest of the restaurant the nightmare of having to dine with your chaos of a family...in pajamas. read more

We tried Sun Moon Garden in our search for a new go-to Chinese restaurant as two of our favorites have closed. This place may be it! The food tastes fresh, the service is friendly and the dining room is small but very pleasant. We ordered: Chicken & Corn Soup - good - it was fine but we have had better. I prefer more corn. Braised Green Beans - excellent - a bit spicy and savory and deeeelicious! And the green beans were cooked perfectly and still crispy. Will probably order this every time we go here! BBQ Pork with Vegetables - excellent. The sauce was amazing and indescribably delicious. This dish is spicy - so watch out for those red peppers. But it was so good. My new favorite! And they use really good quality BBQ pork... Salt & Pepper Shrimp - one of my all time favorite dishes that I order at every Chinese restaurant I go to. We requested it with no shells - as this dish is traditionally cooked/served with the shells on - and they did it with no shells. It was very good - could have been stirred in the pan with the dry spices a little longer - but it was very good and we will order this again and again. The servings were all very generous and nicely presented and our bill was very reasonable. I love this place! As a point of reference - I'm Chinese and from The Bay Area where we get great Chinese food all the time. This place is a solid 8/10. Not gourmet - but really solid, delicious food. Very flavorful. The restaurant is walking distance from my place, and on my way home today I felt like some Chinese (and there you were, Sun Moon Garden). It seems to be an alright choice if you're local (living close by...otherwise there are other options further out) and they do deliver within 3 miles and they seem to attract regulars. I haven't been here in a long time probably because one of the servers was really bad. I didn't see him today, so maybe he's moved on. I can't condemn a place for one bad sever and won't get into it too much. The bottom line is that today was redeeming. It's a family restaurant and there were about 2 families...I sat by my lonesome and had a dinner special, which they serve all day. The restaurant was clean and seems to be well-maintained. Had I arrived earlier, I'd get the lunch special and that would've been slightly cheaper and there's more variety. I ordered Shanghai Shrimp at $6.55, which includes egg drop soup, egg roll, fried shrimp and fried rice. They give arrorwroot chips as an appetizer with some sweet and sour cabbage, and it goes well together. I did order an appetizer because the credit card minimum was $10.00, but my server must not have gotten it. Maybe I wasn't clear enough, so I won't blame him for that. In addition, he welcomed me back and said not to worry about the $10 minimum this time (not that you should expect them to do that during your visit...I was ready to order some more items). In general, service was pretty good and my water was always filled. The server also offered me chopstops, which was nice because I usually have to ask for it myself. I'm not sure, but I think the server may be the owner, something I wasn't very keen on during my visit. The food came out quickly, and that's not saying much because it doesn't take too long to prepare. There wasn't anything special about my entrée, and that's my overall experience of the food from all my visits here. In other words, there's nothing worth mentioning about it other than it was food and I ate it and it was alright. In addition to the fortune cookie with your check, they brought out some sort of jello, and I can't remember the flavor right now. I'm giving this place 2 Stars, but it's not to say I wouldn't try it again. The unique thing about this place is the chips and the jello, but there's nothing special about the food. The specials are affordable ($4.55 to $5.55 for lunch, $5.95 to $6.55 for dinner) and I'd prefer it over fast-food Chinese. Compared to other family-style restaurants, I've had better. It's not to say it's bad because I'd go back probably because it's close. Maybe I should try something on the regular menu since I've only tried the lunch special and the dinner combination plate. I lived in Burbank for the longest time growing up. This place, along with Teriyaki Tokyo and Hong Kong Express, served as my Chinese food staples for the longest time. And I only visited these places during certain times: when it was family time, it was Sun Moon, if I was leaving school it was HK Express, and it was TT if I was at the mall. I came back to this place not too long ago after a long absence from Burbank, and this place is still awesome. Their food is still good, their servings are generous (though they seem smaller than I remember 'em being) , and the food is still delicious. REALLY DELICIOUS. This is the kind of place where you eat their food, and you know there's a guy in the back actually cooking it. It puts places to Panda Express to shame, really. It'll spoil you. Parking here sucks, but it's worth it. If I were you, I'd park by the park and walk here. You won't be sorry. I was very happy to see that Sun Moon Garden had opened up again, and under the same management. I decided to order for pick up and had two orders of 93. Shrimp Fried Rice, 107. Steamed Fish (boneless), and a custom dish of Fish with Black Bean Sauce. What I love about their take out I'd they always pack the containers with as much food as they can, so even if the price seems a bit high, you get enough on your plate. Aside from being a bit salty, the fried rice was delicious and filling. The steamed fish was served over a sauce that went very well when mixed into the rice. The fish was cooked perfectly, and being boneless is always a plus to me. As for the custom order, the fish with black bean sauce had a great taste to it as well. It had been cooked to a great texture of only a slight crunch and integrated with the sauce exquisitely. On top of everything, they also gave us an order of 65. Salt and Pepper Shrimp with my to-go order which, of course, tasted great too. The food is great and healthy with fresh ingredients and no msg, the owners are some of the nicest people I've met, and I will continue to bring my family here as our go to Chinese restaurant. read more

I was with my SO other on New Year's Day and his brother requested him to bring over some Chinese food to his house and I was searching high & low for a Chinese restaurant that was opened this day. I was delighted when a gentleman with a heavy Chinese accent picked up the phone and informed me they were open and we instantly headed towards that direction. We pondered over the menu for a bit and decided on a large order for both the Pork dish [cannot remember for the life of me which dish] and Eggplant with Hot Garlic Sauce [which is my go to dish when it comes to a Chinese restaurant]. We up to pay with the gentleman, he informs us the wait will be about 10 minutes or so. He starts up a conversation with my SO and he asked him if he speaks Chinese [he's Hispanic FYI] and he replied no...the elderly gentleman knew I spoke Chinese and asked me what is the relationship between us two and said this is a very unusual relationship. I don't know what he was insinuating or he was being downright racist because an Asian [Chinese more specifically] is with a non-Asian [Hispanic]..that clearly offended me and I could not wait to get out of there. The food came out rather quickly and we took our togo to his brother house. I was famish when I opened our dishes and I was quickly disappointed with my eggplant. The taste of the sauce was completely off as to how it's supposed to taste, I can make a better Eggplant with Hot Garlic Sauce better than this place. There was nothing impressive about this dish, I can't speak for the meat dish but he only ate a few bites so I am assuming it's definitely not heaven in his mouth either. I will say with confidence I will never spend my money at this place ever again, even if it's the last Chinese place open and I have the biggest craving for it. This restaurant is AMAZING! My family and I have been coming here for over 25 years! They even call us by our names!The food is absolutely delicious and scrumptious! I personally prefer the Mongolian Beef dish and egg rolls but all their dishes are tasty. Their prices are reasonable and if you come Monday thru Friday before 3pm, you can get their lunch special which I always do. I also appreciate that the food is served in a timely matter and is always fresh and hot. I especially love their employees. As soon as we walk in, the employees are quick to greet us. The owner is a very friendly and courteous man. When I have family from out of town, I always bring them here and I am never disappointed. YES! I'm new to Burbank, so when I put in Chinese Food as a search, Sun Moon Garden came up. Once I saw the pics, I was sold. I ordered TO GO on my lunch break, and didn't get one of their lunch specials (which are so cheap, from $5-$7). I went for my favorite Salt & Pepper Pork Chop, and I could taste the authenticity & flavor once I dug into the box on my drive back to work. Huge portion! I was overjoyed LOL I also ordered the Szechwan Bean Curd, which I wasn't too excited about. It was basically Tofu stir fried with Mushrooms & a few Green peas. Taste was good, but just not that appealing in comparison to their other menu selections. I'll just stick to my favorite Chinese dishes :) Service was great, super fast & no issues with parking.
