I was looking for vegan food in the area and stumbled upon this location. Their menu is huge. From vegan sushi, to pasta, Mexican dishes, breakfast, desserts, they have it all. I ordered nachos to start. Probably one of the best tasting nachos I've tried. We also ordered arrabbiata pasta, cauliflower steak and potatoes, white truffle pizza and chicken flautas. The drinks here are amazing and they serve alcohol. I didn't have room for dessert but this is not a place you come once. I have to make another trip to experience this again since their menu is so huge. They don't compromise flavor either. I'm kept forgetting the food was vegan. From the cheese to the meat, nothing was compromised. We had the sweetest waiter ever, Chris. He was so patient with us as it was our first time. Also, the ambiance of the place is adorable. I dined at your restaurant a few weeks ago with two friends. I've reached out on your website but have heard nothing back. Unfortunately our experience was extremely subpar. The service was poor, slow and inattentive and we were the only ones in the restaurant. We had to remind the server multiple times to bring us water - he also served me the wrong drink. We had ordered an appetizer but it was given to a different table even though we were the only guests inside so it ended up coming with our meal. Throughout the evening the server never came over to check on us for drinks or food, but I saw him talking with other workers. The Mac and cheese was burnt and the quality of all of our food was shocking and not enjoyable. My two friends have been to your restaurant in the past and are disappointed by the diminished quality in service and in food. Sun Cafe is on of my favorite vegan restaurants. If you're a meat lover, you will forget what meat is. Not joking! It's amazing what you can do with veggies. Try the nachos. Omg. Seriously my favorite. The flavors explode on my tongue. I loved everything here. A few more of my favorites include the sweet kale smoothie, the grilled cheese, and the waffles. Going back to the nachos, I loved them so much I signed up for the raw cheese class. Chef Ron has classes scheduled for most Saturday and Sunday mornings before the restaurant opens. I assumed it was interactive, however it's more classroom, instructor-led. I still enjoyed the class. You will receive a tasting plate of all the items made during class. I learned how to make the raw cheeses in the nachos that I love so much. Score! There is only valet parking during peak busy time, however I always find meter parking or the free lot across the street. Today was another great experience at this establishment per usual but it was too good of a trip to not be mentioned! Chris, the gentleman with the glasses, was not even clocked in for work yet and still decided to accommodate me and my pregnant wife. We were sitting in a booth where unfortunately some maintenance guys were working on a leak in the ceiling and spewing debris around our seating area. He apologized and asked if we'd like to move somewhere more pleasant and helped us accordingly. Then we were graced to have Sam as our waitress, who was so kind and observant. She made us feel like we could ask her for anything. Chris and Sam set the tone on the entire restaurant and inspired all the others working to do the same. Not to mention the food was delicious. Ate here with the family last night and when the check came there was an auto grat added that the waitress didn't tell me about so ended up tipping on top of the 20% service charge already added to the bill. The ambiance is adorable and the staff is great. The neighborhood is lacking, though. A lot of druggies are nearby and it can get dangerous at night. They do have a private lot, though it's small. The food is just okay I've tried the nachos, bbq cauliflower, pesto, mac and "cheese," mint drink, and mocha. Not sure why people rave about the macaroni. It was bland to me. The texture was excellent. The nachos were okay considering they were vegan. I like the aoli used. The cauliflower just tasted like bbq sauce. The pesto was probably the best of the dishes tried. Aside from the noodles being on the squishy side, the sauce was delicious and I loved the added broccoli. The mocha was tasty, but not something I'd seek out. The mint drink just tasted green to me. We decided to try this place out. The vibe is super cute. They have an outside patio as well as inside seating. They have valet for $5, but there is street parking available too. We sat inside because it was just a little bit hot for us. I had made a reservation via yelp for 6, told the greeter just in case and he sat us inside. We sat down at one of the booths and our server came to us and took our drink order and we decided to get an order of mini nachos and a pineapple lemonade. They were delicious. We finished our nachos and waited a bit by the time our server came back for our order. We even joked that we hoped he didn't think that's all we were ordered. Finally he comes back and takes our order and we wait for our food. I ordered the pesto pasta and my friend got the enchilada skillet. Everything tasted good. My pasta was a bit on the saltier side and the enchiladas were good. Don't order either if you don't want to be full. These were both really heavy. After we ate, the our server took the credit card and promptly returned back to the register area. My friend who has worked in the food industry said I bet he charged my credit card wrong. I thought maybe he forgot to add something to the bill. Surely, enough my friend checked out his account and the guy charged the wrong amount but quickly refunded it. He wasn't mad about the wrong charge but the fact the server didn't even tell him that he'll see this charge on the card. I can definitely say that if you want to be vegan/ lacto-vegetarian, Los Angeles is the place to be. Sun cafe truly has upped the game for vegan joints. Have been here twice already for dinner and brunch and cannot be more happier! We had the pesto broccoli pasta and it was fresh and flavorful and the mac and cheese was nice and my friends liked it but personally I don't like the charred flavor of the dish. But by far my most favorite was the Buffalo Cauliflower Pizza. This pizza is the most amazing vegan pizza I have ever had! The sweet, spicy and tangy flavor is offbeat and not something you will encounter everywhere. From the brunch menu we have tried the lettuce leaf tacos which are unbelievably good. Everyone is our party loved this dish! Highly recommend. We had the Buffalo Cauliflower Pizza again because there is no getting over that and we also tried the omelette which was interesting but a little runny for my taste. We also tried the Belgian waffle which was a little dissatisfying. It was not soft and gooey. I am hoping to try the pancakes or the crepes next time. For the deserts we have tried the Strawberry cheesecake and they have done an amazing job with it. It is soft and the texture is so airy. I couldn't get enough of it. We have also tried the Tiramisu and I think it's passable. It was a solid effort but since there are a lot of nuts it just cannot be as light as one would have liked. It tastes good though. I am a heavy carnivor, and my gf is vegan, so the disconnect always comes when it's time to eat. We found this place and decided to give it an exploration test(trying multiple things). I am extremely satisfied that I have this place a try! The lettuce tacos were very rich in flavor and creativity! Definitely enjoyed them! I ordered for myself the lasagna, I was a little afraid that it would be missing flavor or something, but I was absolutely wrong! This definitely surpassed my expectations and increased my expectations/ standards on what vegetarian food can taste like! The lasagna was rich in flavor, portion was filling, it didn't taste "different" from "the real thing" it was every bit competitive with what I know to be lasagna. The mashed potatoes were ok, I didn't think they were that great, but the grand prize is given to the shamrock shake! This shake rocked my world! It has a touch of mint which takes you in a direction of freshness while indulging in its semisweet waves of rich flavor! The service was exceptional (I think his name was Chris), attention to detail, communicated and explained well, also food came out in a decent time. Had the Dynamite Roll and it was probably the blandest roll ever. It just tasted like mushrooms with too much rice! Ingredients include: brown rice noodles, walnut pesto, marinara, cashew ricotta & spinach, topped w/ cashew cheese. If I didn't know any better, I wouldn't have known this dish was 'cheese-less.' YELP SunCafe Organic popped up in the list with having vegan options... come to find out the ENTIRE menu is vegan !! Yassssssss !!! My friend and I ordered drinks and apps. They were AMAZING!! If you're in a hurry or on a diet or both, this is awesome bc they have a to-go window counter, adjacent to the main restaurant on the right side. I usually sit in the cozy, rustic out-door patio and wait to grab my shake and head out on a hike. Just in time for Saint Patty's Day. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. And I've heard they have cool, cooking classes on the weekends for dishes such as vegan pancakes, which seems like alotta fun. This is on my list of things to-do. This place has been in my bookmarks for a very long time. My buddies and I eventually got around to finally getting to try it. It was happy hour and the perfect time to try one of LAs most popular Vegan spots. To start we got the avocado sampler and the mini Mac and cheese. Both were extremely tasteful, the Mac is probably the best vegan Mac I've had in a very long time. With our starters we all got a shake to go with it. THE SHAMROCK SHAKE is out of this world. It legitimately taste like mint chip Girl Scout cookies. So if mint is your thing you should get this. For my main entree I got the BLT sandwich. I'm not usually a tempeh guy but the bacon made from tempeh was surprising good. The sandwich as a whole was very healthy. Would love to come back and try some more food. read more
