I have never had a bad experience until today. We got there and notes it wasn't to busy. We noticed only two waiters were available to take care of the restaurant. Unfortunately after 45 minutes no one had taken our order or even acknowledged us. I guess it was good we got drinks. As we were waiting multiple tables were filled and a large party was seated and ordered before us. We asked the host first of all who made it clear to us he was not a waiter. We saw him confront our waiter who waived him away saying he had already told us he was coming to take our order 30 min prior. We were told they were short staff and unfortunately had to help everyone else who came after us. We left money for the drinks and walked out. So unfortunate because we go there at least every other week with at least of party of 5. read more

Clarification: this review is about the Sunny Sushi on Cimarron, not the others. We were in the mood for some Korean/Japanese food. We heard Sunny Sushi on Cimarron was good, thus we decided to give it a try. First impression was that the decor was good as well as the ambience. Good place. The service was not bad, but not excellent either. As far as the food is concerned, I thought it was not bad and that I could make this place one of my go-to places. That is until I noticed something. We were about to pay when I realized the Sushi cook was talking on the phone. No big deal right? I thought he would wash his hands after he was done with his phone call. He did not. He just put some plastic gloves on and continued making sushi rolls. Now, for some people, gloves is enough. As for me, you better wash your hands after messing with your dirty phone, and then put some gloves on before handling raw fish. I have no choice but to give this place a low score for such a health transgression. I hope this does not happen often for the sake of the custommers who love to eat here. read more

So normally there are one two places I get sushi from in central/west El Paso. My only experience with Sunny's had been the location on Redd Rd. which had me thinking, ehhhhh.... My experience there had been underwhelming. However, this location was open pretty late (closed at 11pm) on a Saturday and so I tried it out. Ok, first... I love restaurants with a huge outdoor seating area. Check. I walked in to pick up my order and wished I had done dine-in. The ambiance was very nice. The food was made very quickly and even thanked by the sushi chef for my order. So polite. I am planning on making a return trip. The only reason I gave 4 and not 5 stars is because I prefer sunomono that is spiraled, not sliced. They didn't add the vinegar for it either so I was bummed. Also, the volcano roll is divided, so be sure you take note of that and not miss out on the scallops. My husband missed it. read more

Great ambiance, friendly waitstaff and excellent food! Ordered 4 rolls which came out very fast. The rice in the rolls was cooked perfectly, not too dry/not too moist. The rolls themselves were quite large (had to actually cut in half to eat) - all of them were delicious. Had a Philadelphia Roll, Spider Roll, California Roll and Cucumber Roll. Sunny's is an average sushi spot for El Paso, their sushi tends to be fresh, however, all the benefits of the establishment are outweighed by the bad. My family and I tend to get take-out sushi from here every week, and every week there happens to be an issue with our order. When I called the manager to inform her that Sunny's missed two sushi orders from our grand order, she coldly apologized, told us we can come back and pick it up, or that she will reimburse us for it. After we said we would like a refund instead, she said she would do just that and immediately hung up the phone. This isn't the first time we have had such rude instances with the staff here. If the place wasn't as geographically convenient for us, we would not come as often. My parents claim that this is the best sushi spot in El Paso, however, I still think Koze is 2x as fresh. EDIT: This last time they forgot part of our order, the manager had someone drive out to deliver our missed orders. That was appreciated, however, they should have simply double checked the order before giving it out to us. read more

This place is great! Every roll we have ever had has been good! My only dislike is the bibimbap advertised as dot-sol for $18. I ordered the Fillet Mignon asked for medium and it was so tuff...I doubt that was Mignon. My son had the bento box and he couldn't even hold down the sushi which he loves. My bf got the Seafood noodle soap, Crabmeat puff, and the Shrimp tempura roll with cream cheese.... Food and service was mediocre. Obviously since El Paso doesn't have an ocean right next to it, I wasn't expecting the fish to be perfectly fresh, but the tuna looked and tasted nasty. When we went, the freezer was broken we couldn't get really any appetizers or desserts. I hope they got that fixed. Food is expensive for what you get. Because I'm not a fan of sushi I ordered a steak dish, which was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly. My concern, while waiting for my steak to be cooked, her sushi roll sat, and sat, and sat on the counter. Not chilled, just on the counter. She said it was still delicious, though served at room temp. Since it took some time for us to receive our meal, we decided to step outside and have a cigarette. When we returned to the table, everything had been cleared. Even after telling the host we'd be right back. Our server at one point rushed by our table bleeding from her face... not sure what that was about... 20 minutes later she returned with our food... Went this weekend for the first time (12/3/2023) To the Cimarron restaurant we ordered several dishes including fried calamari that look like fried mozzarella stick with no flavor. The chirashi was dry with skin on the fish and tasteless as well. We did not get the little saucer for the soy sauce or the wasabi, the manager approached us and said they only serve these upon request. We ended up talking to the other manager to return the dishes and get the bill, she said she would give a discount on the dishes we didn't like, maybe 3 or 4 dllrs. we got the bill and it was around 83 dlr and was going to leave 100 regardless, however when we got the final bill, we had an additional charge of 3%; the waiter came back and said it was because we paid with a credit card, at this point I am really upset because this was not clarified to us and he says... well, it is posted on the door! I paid cash and left the place. Things did not get better, this morning my daughter called me and told me she and her son were sick to their stomachs, I too started to get the runs. They both went to the doctor and were put on antibiotics, I go tomorrow. Anyway, my daughter had to pay for the appointment and lost a days work as a cashier at a fast food place (no pay). on her way back to the house, she stopped at the restaurant and explained all that had happened to the same woman manager (P), and she was told it was too bad. Horrible food. The sashimi plate is almost inedible. Disgusting smell from fish that hasn't been handled properly. The rolls are over sized and over sauced to hide any flavor from the main ingredient. The noodles and soups are lukewarm and overpriced. Very nice place. Restaurant is nice and clean. Staff is fast and is fast. The miso soup has a very nice taste to it, although it could use a little more tofu. We had three sushi rolls, all of them were delicious. We had fried calamari and edamame for appetizers. The calamari comes in long strings, I rather have the rings, it's easier to dip them in the sauce. The edamame was ok. It was enough food, we didn't try any sweets. I have been coming here periodically for years. Most of the time, it's a fine experience. But probably 25% of the time, they use fish that's past it's prime. Not to the point that it made me sick, but to the point that the sushi has developed that powerful, pungent fishy smell. Sunny's sushi is a pretty good sushi place in West El Paso. I really love their cherry-blossom decor! (They are located right next door to Ripe). Overall their food quality is quite good, but their Miso soup is always pretty bland. Usually the service is quite good, but occasionally you have to wait a while for your good or beg for water or water re-fills. However, a majority of the time they are quite good and we will continue to visit them from time to time. read more

I usually come to Sunny's as it's my favorite sushi spot, I know they have a few locations and I do have some favorites but this one wasn't it. Idk if it was because I was alone or what but I feel like my service was different compared to the tables around me? I felt a little rushed with my server (I don't remember his name) while the other tables were greeted a little nicer and offered their complimentary miso soup (which I was not) and given a little more time to look over the menu. Now my favorites are usually the soft shell crab and the Osaka roll which I have ordered at other Sunny's, when it comes to the soft shell crab it was only half of what normally comes on an massive bed of salad (so weird to me) when normally it's split but you get both sides at other spots. The Osaka roll was fine, good as usual so no complaints. Since I was disappointed in the appetizer I ordered the matcha tiramisu, which was so delicious BUT SO FROZEN. I had to use two forks just to get into that bad boy, other than that it was delicious and a big slice so good if you wanted a shareable desert! Honestly I probably won't come back to this location as the experience just didn't sit well with me. read more

The service was excellent our server was named Angel, he was great and attentive. He recommended the Ozaka roll which I loved and my husband the Teppan dinner. Which we didn't know the place had actual dinner plates! The steak came out just right according to my husband. You get the option of steamed rice or fried. Comes with veggies too! The seaweed salad was coated with a syrupy sweet dressing, not as good as the sushi, will skip that item next time.
