Their 'omelettes' are actually frittatas, which I much prefer. We got the special of the chorizo shrimp and grits and the smoked salmon omelette. Delicious! They do have stone ground grits, so I recommend them. Their house focaccia-style bread was kind of stale dry like they almost toasted then didn't, but the taste was good. Get the biscuits! read more

My friend took me here for brunch, I had the Shrimp, Sausage and Bacon grits, it was perfect. The owner makes it a point to visit every table and seems to have an amazing passion and dedication to her food. Went there for brunch and had the grits bowl and a begal. It was delicious. Enjoyed our meal so much went back another day for lunch and was not disappointed. Not a great experience here, overall. There were 5 of us in on Thursday for an early lunch, and the restaurant had a steady crowd, but I wouldn't consider it to be busy. We were there for almost 2 hours, as service was very slow. Once we received our food (from a different waitress than the one who took our order), we didn't see our waitress again (or any waitstaff, for that matter) until she brought our checks at the end of the meal. I ordered the Cajun shrimp sandwich and a side of caesar salad. I had originally asked for their house salad with a side of ranch, but the waitress didn't know if they even had ranch, as their 4 salads come with their own dressing (all made in house, so that's a plus) and she wasn't sure if they even kept other dressings. That seemed strange to me. The caesar was so-so, but my sandwich was nearly inedible. There was SO much bread (a strange, very dry and crumbly herb bread). I took one bite of the sandwich and it literally fell apart in my hands. I ended up just eating the 5 small shrimp out of it and nothing else. I think they would have been better off serving this on the same roll as they served the fish sandwich that another dinner in our party ordered. The "croutons" on my salad were made of the same bread as my sandwich, and they were just dry and stale, not baked or crunchy in any way...so I ate the lettuce and left the bread. But the time I finished eating, my plate looked like someone had just crumbled 3 or 4 thick slices of bread on it and didn't eat anything. Everyone else at my table said their food was "okay," but no one else was particularly thrilled with their meals, either. I left still hungry and pretty disappointed. read more

After 25 minutes, and seeing people who came in after us being served food, finally asked one of the waitresses where are food was she said the computer lost our order. Service was great, atmosphere, casual. We had the Crab open faced omelette, and it was delicious. The pepper jack cheese grits are creamy, but they are spicy, and the pepper taste was so overbearing, you couldn't taste the cheese or grits. Although we didn't order the burritos, we ordered the special of the day which was pork chops and eggs and they were fantastic. A must if they have them on the menu. We go once a week, if not more. It's a tuck-in, as my Mom would call it. Perfect, comforting and unusually upscale in conception for what might otherwise pass as a diner; served by attentive, incredibly pleasant people. I really cannot say enough good things about Sunrise. They work incredibly hard. Without them we'd starve for decent food at lunch and dinner out here. Unlike our other local establishments which have very high opinions of themselves, Sunrise keeps the quality and choices up but still makes a breakfast sandwich and a great lunch. Just got in to town and we were hungry. Found this gem as the first place to eat in Charleston. The place was packed and for good reason. The restaurant is nicely decorated, We were greeted by a hostess and taken right to our seats . All the servers work as a team and kept on top of the tables with smiles. The hostess was so rude we left before we even got a chance to see how the place was. We had a larger party (8) so we called ahead to make a reservation as a courtesy at 11:04. When she answered, she said "oh that's not that big" and told us 20-30 minutes. We arrived at 11:25 and told her we were here for our reservation and she said curtly, "we called you and you didn't answer so you're going to have to wait a minute. And you're going to have to wait outside we don't have room in here for you." Not only did we never get a call, but we would have happily waited had she not been so incredibly rude. One of the best gems in Johns Island... While I love all the food here and have never had a bad meal the many times I have eaten here, I need to make mention of their chicken n waffles. It's not on the menu and is only offered as a special every so often, but it is the best I have ever had! Definitely give it a try if you can. They even made my wife a mimosa on one occasion even though it wasn't on the menu. Can't argue that... We will be returning.... a Lot! read more
