This is such a cutie little spot! We stopped based on some recommendations from friends and they were on point. It's a true local shop, driving by I would have never guess the inside is what it is. The food was spectacular. I had an open faced omlet and they make this delicious bread in house that they serve with it. The waitress and all the staff was extremely friendly. I will definitely enjoy going back again, everyone's food was great and came out quickly. The coffee bar was very neat as well with a variety of selections instead of just regular and decaf. One of my favorite things they did was that when we went to go sit I needed a high chair for my daughter and that was the first time in any restaurant ever I've had the waitress actually wipe it down before putting it at the table. May be silly, but That is major brownie points from me! Oh and There mango/orange mix mimosas were extremely tasty, the craft seemed to of disappeared pretty fast. read more

I've tried a number of items on the menu including their omelettes and Hungry Howie breakfast platter. All delicious, non-greasy, and fresh! P.S. Get the grits whatever you do! My husband and I came in for breakfast on a kid-free weekend. It was busy but we got a seat at the bar right away. I love the self-serve coffee--it makes it so much easier to make my coffee the way I like it. We both got the Sunrise Sampler, except I got fruit and he got the potatoes. It was one of the best fruit cups at a restaurant I've had. The French toast was incredible and the bacon was very crispy. I had a few of my husband's potatoes, which were delicious. Great little place for a simple sandwich or breakfast. We enjoyed their curried shrimp sandwich on herbed bread. It was very large and I took half home. I thought their lunch menu was a bit more creative than their breakfast menu. Breakfast portions were generous, although the french toast came as JUST french toast on the plate. A few strawberries, mint leaf or sliced banana for garnish would have added to the plate. Our lunch waiter gave great service. He was extremely personable and did a great job! Unfortunately, our breakfast servers were a bit disinterested. Didn't seem to care much about us. Bad day? Disappointing, as we also had come to Sunrise Bistro after reading good reviews on Yelp. Best place for breakfast on John's Island, but that's not saying too much since it's really the only place for breakfast on John's Island. Service is hit or miss, this morning it was a huge miss. Wait staff can be disorganized and this really shows when they're busy. Different servers take drink orders, meal order, run food, etc. They use tiny blocks with numbers on them instead of numbering tables forcing the food runners to check every table to see where to drop off food. Usually the manager can bring everything together, but when he's not attentive the service deteriorates drastically. Can get crowded on weekends and floor set-up can feel rather congested. You pay a cashier up front instead of your server(s) taking the bill and this results in a mess up front with people sitting at high-tops, others waiting for a table, others waiting for to-go orders, and people trying to pay. The coffee is good although self-serve. Food is really good and somewhat creative for breakfast. However service can be below average at times. read more

I go to the Sunrise Bistro Johns Is at least twice a month and it's always good. No I wouldn't say they have the best food ever but I will say it's good it's solid it's fresh it's hot the wait staff is always friendly and amazing very little turnover there which is always a good sign and the owner Jessica is as sweet as she can be. Just know that it might be a little busy around breakfast time locals love it and out-of-towners have found it but the wait is never long and it's always worth waiting for. My standby as a turkey Reuben with the side Greek salad or the veggie delight wrap with hummus, both are yummy:-) read more

We were vacationing on Seabrook Island and there are no real breakfast joints on the island. We found this little gem and it instantly turned into our go-to while we were here. My favorite is easily the French toast sandwich. It comes with buttery grits and I always ordered a side of sausage gravy and mixed that in with my grits. So perfect! My boyfriend's favorite was the breakfast pizza: whole wheat crust with sausage gravy and an omelette on top. These guys really do breakfast right. The service was always friendly and timely. The staff was smiling and relaxed. For coffee, napkins, straws, hot sauce, etc, there is a self-serve bar. I really liked that, because it seems to take some of the pressure off of the servers and keep them more efficient at taking care of customers and flipping tables. The restaurant itself is clean and the self-serve bar is nice and tidy. Restrooms are kept clean. The decor is fun and artsy without pretension. I noticed that some of the artwork on the walls is for sale, also very cool. Thanks, Sunrise Bistro, for providing a delicious, chill, friendly, and affordable diner for vacationers! Pleasantly surprised with this place! I had the breakfast burrito and it was very very good. The bacon here is delicious. My friends had the Belgian waffle, farmers omelet, and the French toast. The Belgian waffle was small but so so so good my friend said. The waitresses are very nice and attentive. The prices are the best part about this place, it's not too expensive. Best. Breakfast. Ever. I'm a huge breakfast food fan, and Sunrise Bistro on Johns Island has some of the best breakfast food you will find in Charleston. I live downtown and I would rather go there than just about any place downtown. Everyone who works there is super friendly and speedy, and the food is amazing AND inexpensive (which you don't find downtown). I've been there multiple times and I have never been disappointed. The breakfast bowl and the breakfast burrito are my favorites - always fresh! I've also had their cinnamon bun, which is the size of my head and drenched with icing, and probably consists of your sugar intake for a week, but it's SO worth it. Their dinner is also great, but is a little pricier than breakfast/ lunch. I had the shrimp and grits, which come second only to my Dad's, but while their breakfast/ lunch is downtown quality with Johns Island prices, their dinner is downtown quality and downtown prices. It's a very casual environment, you pretty much seat yourself and the server comes and gives you menus and a little wooden block with your table number on it, you refill your own tea and coffee, for which there are plenty of options, and they have cool local art on the walls. Maybe the ONLY con for Sunrise is their weird hours, which are understandable on tiny Johns Island, but I guess I just love them so much that I always want them to be open! read more
