Sunrise Buffet in San Diego is located on Convoy & Ostro. I had very high expectations for this buffet (in-laws go here a lot), but since I have been super spoiled by several other buffets in OC, Inland Empire, SGV, and San Diego, this one stands out as not really living up to the standards at other buffets. There are many options to choose from (majority being seafood), but this buffet does not have a hibachi grill or as many dessert options as other buffets have. The chicken wings were really good and fresh. Mi fen noodles were good, as well as the egg drop soup. Plantains and Chinese donuts were good. The roast beef that they serve (let's talk about that since it was very misleading)... is NOT prime rib as it states on the sign. It is actually chuck roast (which I'm ok with bc i like that too, but they shouldn't declare that it's prime rib). The amount of rosemary it had was overwhelming. Service was excellent. Randy took very good care of us and made sure our drinks were refilled and plates were collected. Overall, good buffet but not as good as others I've been to. I'll give it 3.5 stars, plus great service, rounds up to 4 stars.

Great place for breakfast or lunch Asian buffet. For the price of $16.99 pp there's really a lot to choose from. We arrived at 11am and were seated within minutes at a booth and we helped ourselves to the food. Most of the food looked and tasted fresh since it was still early. My wife and I loaded up our plates with beef & broccoli, seafood boil with corn, dim sum dumplings and sesame balls, fried fish, noodles, fried plantain, Chinese donuts, calamari, steamed buns and soup. There's ample selections of salad and dessert as well. Drinks do cost extra but just a few dollars more. The venue is spacious and clean. Music is not too loud. I wouldn't mind coming back here again. For the price you can't go wrong

Not bad. The food was ok for a buffet so it wouldn't be fair to compare it to a fine dining experience. The service was purdy much bare minimal. My server had absolutely no interest in conversation with me. He did an excellent job of clearing used dishes. Too good in fact when my friend went to the rest room the server took his desert and drink before he was finished. I had to flag him down for a refill on my drink and could never get his attention for a second refill. Our server was a very hard worker and Kept the surrounding tables cleared and wiped down when customers left As mentioned the food was ok . The hot items didn't seem to be hot. On a positive note, they had an outstanding variety of food to choose from The sushi bar was a high point There was so many to choose from, I chose one of almost every kind so I wouldn't fill up on sushi alone. There was many seafood dishes to choose from several chicken dishes a couple pork dishes Not much beef to speak of. The salad bar was fairly decent and kept cold and fresh.a favorite was the seafood salad . I also enjoyed the coconut shrimp, the mussels with the cheese sauce, and BBQ pork, orange chicken and the chowmein. The almond cookies, coconut cookies and those creme filled cookies rounded out the meal for desert I wasn't fond of the ice cream especially the vanilla it seemed watered down or maybe fat free it just didn't agree with personal preference. I was annoyed that the woman checking us out was on the phone, it seemed like an important call I get that . I just felt as a cash paying customer. I deserved more attention. Perhaps she should have took the call in private and let someone who could give me the attention I deserve take her place at the register. I didn't feel valued perhaps that happened years ago and is why I never came back. Because of that experience and the fact that there a number of buffets in the area it may take me another 25 years to return. I will say that if the Restaurant was more friendly and attentive to drink refills I could see this as a good location for my Dinner with Friends events that I schedule usually twice a month, because it has an area large enough to accommodate our group which can have 4 or more wheelchairs. But my concern is that many of my group are on a fixed income and this place would be too expensive for some. Maybe not out or the question for a once a year splurge. The absolute best part of the meal was that it gave 3 of my former students I had in elementary school in the 1990's a chance to get out of the house, off their screens, and conversing face to face with old friends. Which is the reason that I schedule Dinner with Friends. Thanks for reading. I'll see you in my next review.

Food is always amazing soo tasteful, Service is always welcoming, I've been coming here 2 years I sometimes dine in and I especially love the takeout. Honestly there's just times where I don't wanna cook so I come here. Yes it goes by weight but to have food you can enjoy in increments is great. Ambiance is great everyone is friendly and always on their stuff you don't have to ask for refills I've only lived in sd for almost 2 years in Nov but I recommend eating here. Be nice and tip a dollar when you grab sushi thanks

I normally don't Review bad unless it can't except...SORRY! : Only the Oysters is good. Everything else surprisingly bad ... only finish 1/3 of the food on my table :( Not just that the waitress not even ask it's anything alright , the only time we see her when she bring the check over :( I don't know when I'm coming back here.

Very clean, good food options, nice staff. I recommend the pot stickers and the salmon. Both are delicious!

Downside on that is they come out with limited amount of half lobster and often times lines are long. Limit one per person everytime you get in line. The lobster was not fresh today and texture was very mushy. I will not be coming back for lobster night. Service was nice and friendly. I really like this Buffet because all other All You Can Eat buffets and Korean barbecue buffets and even Las Vegas buffets all limit your eating time to 2 hours or less. 100s Seafood Buffet in Mission Valley kicked me out when I overstayed the 2 hours by 15 minutes. The manager hollered In demanding voice,"I want you to pay your server RIGHT NOW", and he kicked me out. That was the first time I ever went to 100s Seafood buffet and they didn't have a line of people waiting for tables when he kicked me out. I was about the only person sitting at a table in my area so it wasn't like I was keeping them from making more money. I never went back but the food was really good and I only had time to eat only five items in the buffet. Cost was $36 at the time So before coming to Great Plaza Buffet I called the restaurant and asked them if they had a 2-hour eating limit. The lady who seats people when you first come in, named Mimi, told me "No you can stay as long as you want". So I come and eat the crab and I eat alone most times. Sometimes I bring my next door neighbors but she doesn't eat crab because of allergies, but they like the other food. My favorite foods besides the snow crab is the black pepper lamb which is very tender. Lamb with no gristle. And I like the scallop shells that are stuffed. And the chicken with mushrooms so delicious. And their chicken wings are really big and crispy on the outside. I like the flan for dessert and the fresh fruit, watermelon, papaya and sometimes they have black cherries. This Great Plaza Buffet is generous with their food. I used to eat at a Asian buffet in Gilbert, Arizona, and they only bring out five crab legs at a time every 20 minutes. I have to stand there at the buffet waiting for the crab to come out because if I don't get it when they from put a few pieces, I will never see the crab. And I can only take three or four because they only brought out five or six and there's people standing behind me. I don't go there anymore. They are too stingy with the crab it's not worth it to drive 25 miles for the crab. Every 15 times I get a free dinner at Great Plaza. Tonight I'm going again and it will be reward number 9 towards my 15 to get the free dinner. I always eat alone. Thank you Great Plaza Buffet for not kicking me out like 100's Seafood Buffet. Eating at Great Plaza Buffet is the highlight of my week. It takes a long time to crack the crab and get the meat out of the shells. If you look at my 100's Seafood review written on Sept. 27, 2021, it got many funny votes which Yelp does not have funny votes anymore, but I wrote a really funny review that people wrote me and said they laughed so hard how funny it is and what a good writer I am. But they kicked me out and my bad review was read by so many people laughing at how 100's buffet treats their customers. That's what I love about Great Plaza Buffet. Their food items are high quality. And the price is good $26 for my senior price for the crab nights. As soon as I leave the restaurant I'm already can't wait to come back next Friday.

The food selection is vast so it's easy for anyone to find at least a few items they like. My personal favorites were the cream cheese wontons, fried rice and the coconut shrimp. I tried a few things that I didn't particularly like but that's the beauty of a buffet, I don't need to eat more of/commit to food I don't like! The food was all pretty fresh looking to keep up with the fast pace crowds hitting the buffet lines. The dessert selection was great and they have a very fun chocolate fountain, the chocolate in it is actually really good too and not that weird waxy chocolate you get in fountains sometimes. I will note that the ice cream bin doesn't seem very sanitary with so many people reusing the same scoop over and over. Another thing I didn't enjoy was the cream puffs, I'm not sure if I got a bad one or if they all tasted like this but mine seriously tasted like spoiled milk. Everyone that we interacted with was pleasant from the hostess, to our server and the person who checked us out. Our server was also pretty good about keeping our waters filled. Overall a very enjoyable experience! I look forward to coming back again soon.

Since we live more than an hour away, we waited until we were already in the area. Two days ago, we finally stopped by. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The first thing we noticed upon walking in was an unusual odor that wasn't very inviting. Since it wasn't their Sunday buffet day, we ordered à la carte: kare-kare, crispy pata, and chicken inasal. The service was good, food presentation was nice, and the dishes looked promising. However, the flavors did not meet our expectations. The kare-kare did not taste like traditional kare-kare, and the bagoong alamang was extremely salty with a very strong odor. The crispy pata had been chopped into pieces before frying, making it look and eat more like lechon kawali than the crispy pata we expected. As for the chicken inasal, it was far from the traditional version we're familiar with--it didn't even appear grilled and resembled chicken satay more than inasal. There were three of us dining, and all of us shared the same impressions of the food. Based on their advertising about serving food that's "as good as Nanay's," we came in with high expectations, but sadly, those expectations were not met. This was our first visit, and unfortunately, it will likely be our last. While others may have a different experience, we were not impressed with the food and would not make the drive back for another visit.
