Went back again, I was gooning hard on the crab cheese rangoons but the rest of the food gave me a gut ache . Leaving my 2 stars for now I was hoping for better . In honor of the mullet reviewer of Chinese buffets I dedicate this visit to him , the GOAT

It's been a minute since I've gone to an Asian buffet. I remember enjoying Sunrise Buffet last year during their lunch offerings, so this time I came for dinner to see if the higher price meant better variety and quality. We went around 7PM and the parking lot was packed. The spaces are tight, so we had to squeeze into. Inside, there's actually a lot of seating. Booths, regular tables, and larger sections for big parties. The dining room felt spacious and not chaotic. We were seated right away and greeted quickly. Service was friendly but minimal, which is typical buffet style. Plates were cleared regularly, but interaction was limited. The layout is pretty standard. There's a salad bar section, sushi station, soups in the back, fried items, seafood trays, and hot entrées lined up in steam tables. Compared to other Asian buffets, the overall selection felt a little limited. The salad bar was basic with standard toppings and dressings. The sushi station was mostly variations of California rolls. The nigiri did not look especially fresh, which is somewhat expected at this price point. Dinner "specials" included BBQ pork ribs and crawfish boil. They also had a seafood boil option, but they also offer this at lunch. It didn't feel like a major upgrade from the daytime selection. There were a few highlights. The beef and mushroom had a nice sweet umami flavor and was tender. The green beans were cooked properly with a slight garlic flavor and still had some bite. The honey walnut shrimp was crispy and pretty addictive. The teriyaki chicken was probably the best protein of the night. It was stir fried with a good amount of onions and had a nice grilled flavor. Now the bad parts... The seafood boil was extremely mushy. The meat fell apart just from the pressure of your fingers. The flavor was actually good, but the texture completely threw it off. That was probably the most disappointing item of the night. There was also a lack of labeling or incorrect labels. One tray was labeled clams with black bean sauce, but it looked more like clams in a thin cloudy white sauce with zucchini. Dessert included fruit, cookies, cream puffs, flan, coffee tiramisu cake, and ice cream. Some of the pastries looked like they had been sitting out for a while and didn't look very fresh. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't impressive either. For the dinner price, I expected a little more in terms of variety and consistency. It satisfied the craving in the moment, but it didn't feel like a major step up from lunch. Time to find a different Asian buffet :(

Sunrise Buffet in San Diego is located on Convoy & Ostro. I had very high expectations for this buffet (in-laws go here a lot), but since I have been super spoiled by several other buffets in OC, Inland Empire, SGV, and San Diego, this one stands out as not really living up to the standards at other buffets. There are many options to choose from (majority being seafood), but this buffet does not have a hibachi grill or as many dessert options as other buffets have. The chicken wings were really good and fresh. Mi fen noodles were good, as well as the egg drop soup. Plantains and Chinese donuts were good. The roast beef that they serve (let's talk about that since it was very misleading)... is NOT prime rib as it states on the sign. It is actually chuck roast (which I'm ok with bc i like that too, but they shouldn't declare that it's prime rib). The amount of rosemary it had was overwhelming. Service was excellent. Randy took very good care of us and made sure our drinks were refilled and plates were collected. Overall, good buffet but not as good as others I've been to. I'll give it 3.5 stars, plus great service, rounds up to 4 stars.

Great place for breakfast or lunch Asian buffet. For the price of $16.99 pp there's really a lot to choose from. We arrived at 11am and were seated within minutes at a booth and we helped ourselves to the food. Most of the food looked and tasted fresh since it was still early. My wife and I loaded up our plates with beef & broccoli, seafood boil with corn, dim sum dumplings and sesame balls, fried fish, noodles, fried plantain, Chinese donuts, calamari, steamed buns and soup. There's ample selections of salad and dessert as well. Drinks do cost extra but just a few dollars more. The venue is spacious and clean. Music is not too loud. I wouldn't mind coming back here again. For the price you can't go wrong

Not bad. The food was ok for a buffet so it wouldn't be fair to compare it to a fine dining experience. The service was purdy much bare minimal. My server had absolutely no interest in conversation with me. He did an excellent job of clearing used dishes. Too good in fact when my friend went to the rest room the server took his desert and drink before he was finished. I had to flag him down for a refill on my drink and could never get his attention for a second refill. Our server was a very hard worker and Kept the surrounding tables cleared and wiped down when customers left As mentioned the food was ok . The hot items didn't seem to be hot. On a positive note, they had an outstanding variety of food to choose from The sushi bar was a high point There was so many to choose from, I chose one of almost every kind so I wouldn't fill up on sushi alone. There was many seafood dishes to choose from several chicken dishes a couple pork dishes Not much beef to speak of. The salad bar was fairly decent and kept cold and fresh.a favorite was the seafood salad . I also enjoyed the coconut shrimp, the mussels with the cheese sauce, and BBQ pork, orange chicken and the chowmein. The almond cookies, coconut cookies and those creme filled cookies rounded out the meal for desert I wasn't fond of the ice cream especially the vanilla it seemed watered down or maybe fat free it just didn't agree with personal preference. I was annoyed that the woman checking us out was on the phone, it seemed like an important call I get that . I just felt as a cash paying customer. I deserved more attention. Perhaps she should have took the call in private and let someone who could give me the attention I deserve take her place at the register. I didn't feel valued perhaps that happened years ago and is why I never came back. Because of that experience and the fact that there a number of buffets in the area it may take me another 25 years to return. I will say that if the Restaurant was more friendly and attentive to drink refills I could see this as a good location for my Dinner with Friends events that I schedule usually twice a month, because it has an area large enough to accommodate our group which can have 4 or more wheelchairs. But my concern is that many of my group are on a fixed income and this place would be too expensive for some. Maybe not out or the question for a once a year splurge. The absolute best part of the meal was that it gave 3 of my former students I had in elementary school in the 1990's a chance to get out of the house, off their screens, and conversing face to face with old friends. Which is the reason that I schedule Dinner with Friends. Thanks for reading. I'll see you in my next review.

Food is always amazing soo tasteful, Service is always welcoming, I've been coming here 2 years I sometimes dine in and I especially love the takeout. Honestly there's just times where I don't wanna cook so I come here. Yes it goes by weight but to have food you can enjoy in increments is great. Ambiance is great everyone is friendly and always on their stuff you don't have to ask for refills I've only lived in sd for almost 2 years in Nov but I recommend eating here. Be nice and tip a dollar when you grab sushi thanks

I normally don't Review bad unless it can't except...SORRY! : Only the Oysters is good. Everything else surprisingly bad ... only finish 1/3 of the food on my table :( Not just that the waitress not even ask it's anything alright , the only time we see her when she bring the check over :( I don't know when I'm coming back here.

According to the restaurant's posted hours, they close at 10:00 PM. My family and I arrived around 9:15 PM, expecting that we still had enough time to order dinner. As soon as we walked in, the server immediately told us they were already closed. My mother politely pointed out that the posted closing time was 10:00 PM and simply asked if the kitchen happened to close earlier than the dining room. Instead of explaining the situation professionally, the server responded in a very rude tone: "Well, you guys can eat and order, but at 10:00 PM you need to be gone and out the door." Another employee then stepped in to back him up, making the interaction feel even more uncomfortable. I completely understand how the restaurant business works. I've been around the industry long enough to know that kitchens often stop taking orders before closing or that staff are trying to finish cleaning at the end of the night. If they had simply said, "We're sorry, but our kitchen is already closed," or even, "We can still serve you, but we're finishing up for the night," we would have completely understood. There was no reason to speak to us disrespectfully. What made this experience frustrating is that we never came in with an attitude or demanded special treatment. We were polite from the moment we walked through the door. We simply asked a reasonable question based on the restaurant's posted business hours, and instead of receiving a courteous explanation, we were met with unnecessary hostility. Customer service is just as important as the food. A welcoming attitude can make guests want to return, while a rude interaction can overshadow everything else. Unfortunately, this experience left such a negative impression that I won't be returning. I also would not feel comfortable bringing my family or recommending this restaurant to friends because everyone deserves to be treated with basic respect. I hope management takes this review as constructive feedback and reminds their staff that even when it's close to closing time, a little kindness and professionalism go a long way.

We ordered orange chicken, Chinese style fish and something else. Again, this was on the thought that we could order more than one item on our selected menu. So imagine our surprise when the bill was nearly $100 for two people? It was a misunderstanding. However, the initial staff gentlemen was completely rude about it and ignored us as we sought to understand. Finally, a second female server came and heard our concerns regarding the false advertisement and unclear messaging. She was able to provide us the price we thought this was for based on Menu selection. All in all - I don't recommend the AYCE option. I think it would be important to make a distinction that AYCE clearly on the menu and at the front - AYCE means each individual selects ONE entree (which is a one small portion) and the AYCE component of the deal is ONLY for the side buffet.

Not considering it in my rating, but not really sure how I feel about it. As for the food, the dumplings--amazing. We got the scallop shrimp pork ones. The skin is on the thicker side but the texture is so bouncy and the filling is incredibly umami and juicy. One of the best dumplings in San Diego. Each plate comes with 14 of them so it's pretty hefty. They don't really do modifications especially given that all the dumplings are pre-filled, so keep that in mind. As for the other items, they're passable but not as excellent as their dumplings. The beef noodle soup is good, but a little light on beef and veggies. The scallion pancake is super crispy, a little more like croissant and pretty mild green onion flavor. The noodles in the zha jiang mian were a little too al dente. The zha jiang mian comes with bean sprouts, carrots, cucumbers, celery, and ground pork in the black bean sauce. Overall great food for a reasonable price. If in doubt get more dumplings rather than their other dishes; that's what they specialize it and are best at.

Been awhile since I had been down here. The last few times in San Diego, I had been craving the…read moresalt and pepper wings from here, but didn't have time to come down to get them. That changed this trip. I went twice in the 4 days we were there! First night I got just an order of salt and pepper wings. $23.50 or so, and they hooked it up with about15 wings (says 13 to an order, but we got a couple more than that, I think). The wings were PERFECT! It was my Sons first time trying them. He instantly fell in love! We ate them outside and went to town. Cant get a better wing, anywhere. Large, crispy, salty, garlicky. Perfect wings! Second time there, I went with the lunch special for the salt and pepper wings. You get 10 wings, and a container of plain fried rice. Total was like $18.50. Once again, wings were bomb! I love scooping the garlic and green onions on top of the wings and biting in. Such a good bite! I love this place! Their other food is very good, too, but come for the salt and pepper wings...they are life altering, and the best wings anywhere.

Nice use of mushrooms in this and the rice is nicely cooked. Get the sweet and sour fish fillet. Big portions and the fish is breaded but flakes nicely when you eat it. Get the salt and pepper chicken wings. FIRE. My cousin has a disability and I just want to thank the staff here for being so kind, patient and understanding to us as we had our meal. If I could give a hundred stars, I would. This place is a must go to for great Chinese food in San Diego.
