We got there when they opened so all the food was just put out. It was really good! There's a really good selection of dishes. The sushi tasted pretty much as good as what I get at a typical American sushi place, and I was impressed with the number of nigiri and rolls they had. It's pretty cheap if you go at the right time. Best Asian buffet around? Probably not. But very good quality for the price and a lot of choices that are pretty authentic Chinese and not greasy. If the sushi bar and dim sum were better quality I would up it to 4 stars, but instead it's a solid 3.5 for me Lunch is just under $9 I believe, and Dinner is around $14 ($13 for seniors) which is a really good value considering that the food is constantly being refreshed and is hot and fresh. In terms of being authentic it's pretty solid too and not greasy. My immigrant Chinese parents and I like it enough to be regulars. Dinner (served all day on Sundays) is where you'll find all the seafood: long Alaskan crab legs, massive oysters, Chinese style lobster, steamed seabass, baked salmon. They always have a sushi station with rolls being made fresh. They tend to be variations of California and vegetarian rolls with non-raw elements, but they also do sushi. The non-rolled sushi (fish atop rice) isn't the best you've had and is a little bland but still the most popular at the sushi station. This place is always crowded so the seafood and sushi get scooped up almost immediately when they come up. The servers who roam the clean and orderly dining room to scoop up your plates are young and polite. Word of mouth stop. We were in the neighborhood and a friend recommended this place. I give this restaurant four stars because of the variety of food and, the food tastes good. I went with three others, two of whom are very picky eaters. Everyone found something that they liked and I enjoyed several dishes myself. The coconut shrimp have a sweet sauce but good. What Happened? I used to come here a lot when I was in college and I would pig out with my friends. Granted, the food quality was never outstanding but it was at least edible. I agree with the reviews below. Everyone knows I'm a big fan of crab cream cheese wontons and they used to be okay here. OMG they are so bad now! I've never had cream cheese wontons that I couldn't eat but this was just dry and the flavor was bad. It tasted like they bought their ingredients at the 99 Cent Store. Obviously with buffets you can't expect expensive ingredients, but if I could at least suggest using real Philadelphia Cream Cheese in their recipe it might help. Not only that but their sushi, coconut shrimp and custard buns etc. were all dry and poor quality too. Went to Sunset buffet for a calamari take out order. They cheated by putting some fried chips in the bottom of the pan. The price quoted was incorrect and over charged me for this order. Pls check your order and receipt from what amount they have and the receipt they give you is different. Foods are junk and the servers are rude even the owner. They also did same thing with my sister when she ordered to go. They over charged her too and when my brother in law came back to dispute it, they denied it with his receipt on hand and got a big guy to shove him away and followed him to the parking lot. Worst Chinese Buffet in my life! Purchased 3 dinner buffets for about $22/ea. Oh & beware: BEVERAGES ARE NOT INCLUDED! So what we thought would be less than $70 turned out to be $83 & some change which is when we discovered the extra $3 for ea fountain soda we ASSUMED was already included in the buffet price! Then the 7% Cali tax on top of that? That's basically the gratuity in my opinion! All they did was refill our sodas twice but it's SELF SERVE so no need tip if your party is less than 5 people. First I want to start off by saying I've been coming here for years. After covid , things are just not the same quality it once was. Today will be the last day my family and I come here. There was nothing horribly wrong however , the quality of food has significantly gone down and either everything is over salted or just not fresh, ( you can tell sushi had been out long because the rice was drying out), also having flies around touching and landing on the food was not pleasant to see either. If it wasn't for the staff I would have given the food and overall place a 2 star but you can see they are trying really hard to interact and make the experience a little more pleasant, but there's only so much you can do if the food at the restaurant is not up to par. Stopped by for lunch on a Friday after work and wasn't disappointed. It's not super spectacular but it's good. I paid $10.30 + tip with a coupon I got from checking in with Yelp. Not bad at all for the price. Sushi (somehow basic but still sushi), Chinese dishes, soups, salads and desserts (including ice cream machine). Honestly, it was what I expected for the price. There are other places in Miramar/Mira Mesa that have a Mongolian grill and other offerings but this one was closer to home and wanted to avoid traffic. I don't regret my decision. Service was great.
