We went for a weekend lunch and the floor was sticky as soon as we walked in, even the bathroom. There was an odd smell in the building, not food, not exactly mold, just an odd smell. I like Sunrise Buffet for having a good selection of food, drinks and desserts. But what I don't like about this restaurant is that they do not clean their utensils and glasses thoroughly. I mean when the soda was served on a plastic glass, I immediately saw imprint's of probably the last person's mouth imprinted on the rim of the glass. It's a good thing COVID-19 is gone. But we still have to continue to sanitizing everything in the kitchen from the utensils, the plates, serving spoons all the way to the frying pans, wok and other kitchen tools. It is very disgusting. So if ever you visit this restaurant again, please make sure you check the glasses before drinking your favorite beverage. Sterilize the spoon and fork in a glass of very hot water. Came here with my friend for a Saturday lunch. First surprise was the very good price they offer. I barely see any buffet restaurants charge Saturday lunch as normal weekdays lunch's price like this one. The price is just only the about the cost of a bowl of Pho/Noodle elsewhere. We have eaten several times at the Sunrise Buffet. It's the best Chinese buffet in San Diego. Their food is always good, the selection is varied and the food is plentiful. They have a great selection of sushi. The restaurant's physical plan is very practical - lots of seating and the food counters are set up so it's easy to walk around them without long lines forming. Me and a group of 4 payed $120 for our stomachs to hurt after taking the first couple bites. The shrimp was sour.. the chicken was pink on the inside, if it was steak I wouldn't mind but it's chicken..and it was pink. Chow mein was cold straight off the tray . They didn't even bother restocking the food and instead started rushing us to finish eating. Brought us more drinks to fill us up on that rather than the food that wasn't there. I've been to this place four times, hoping maybe the earlier times were a fluke. It wasn't. Hot foods are overcooked, cold, or just straight up nasty. Cold things are mushy with no flavor. The salmon was inedible, tough and waay overcooked. The crab rangoon were hard, so they'd been sitting there for a while. I saw only one dish get replenished and I was there for almost an hour. It's a good place to try but not sure if we will be back again. They had a sushi selection, salad bar, soup station, and entree and appetizer area. I went today and got 3 dinner buffets and paid $71.08 and was charged $85.30 that's a 20%tip they dont give you regular checks and dont say anything to you.. and I mad it a point to say I left your tip on the table.. Like other reviews have mentioned, it is a typical mid-level buffet with an over-representation of chicken entrees. Their crustacean selection is hit or miss. Usually I don't partake but in the last visit the crab legs and crawfish were really good. The legs were well-seasoned albeit very small. The crawfish were pretty meaty. I don't like the shrimp which tends to be over-cooked (typical for most buffets which are concerned about under-cooking, is my guess). I was surprised by a reviewer who criticized the "ice cream."
