My younger sister and I were looking to shake up our local restaurant routine tonight. Feeling like a little bit of everything on a plate; we took a good ole ride down to Sunrise Pita and Grill. Going in, there wasn't too long of a wait and we settled on a shawarma mini plate with a side order of fresh fries. Moving on with my review; everything was excellent! Note; I've been coming here since I've been a child, but the food nevertheless fails to impress me. The shawarma was succulent, spiced and grilled well too; fries fresh and crispy; the veggies/spreads were all fresh and provided nicel contrast of flavors too. Moreover, the mini plate provided plenty to eat between the 2 of us as our bellies were super full! In addition, the employees were very friendly and attentive. Overall, this was another superb meal at Sunrise Pita & Grill, and hope those who haven't been here to give this place a shot! Verdict remains 5/5! read more

Super disappointing honestly. I was craving Middle Eastern food and thought that Sunrise Pita's menu sounded really good. However we were in for a nasty surprise when we realized that their website is incorrect and they aren't open until 10 PM, only until 8 PM, so by 7:30 when we arrived, the grills were closed. The only protein options they had were schnitzel or falafel. I got a falafel pita, and even though I love falafel, this just wasn't it. The falafel didn't have much flavor, and the sauce had a weirdly bitter aftertaste. It was overall pretty dry, and it fell flat texturally. The flavor of their hummus was also quite bland with a bitter aftertaste as well. While I didn't try it myself, my family was rather unimpressed with the schnitzel pita too. The best part of the meal was the potato wedges and the canned Israeli apple juice. After such a disappointing experience, I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back. read more

I had the pleasure of meeting visiting cousins here for lunch today. If you're craving the most delicious Mid-Eastern food (falafel, Shawarma, kebabs), Sunrise Pita & Grill is the place to go. We were made to feel right at home when we arrived by the warm and welcoming staff. We placed our orders and sat to wait for the rest of our party to arrive. The gentleman at the counter came over and offered to lower the tv volume for us. Then he gave my husband complimentary samples of the soup of the day for us to enjoy as we waited. The soup was cream of corn, and it was super delicious. The place is so clean and inviting to sit and enjoy your food. We absolutely loved everything we ordered. Long overdue review. Was down locally to wind down my mother's apartment last September. Very trying time. Wife and I were exhausted and hungry. As per my previous review, nothing has changed this spot is still a gem! The portions are generous, the food is filling, delicious and most importantly SUPER fresh and well cooked/seasoned. On my most recent visit I got the Jerusalem Mix Mini Plate which came with Hummus, Tahini, Eggplant, Red Cabbage, Tomato, Cucumber and Lettuce and the best part about this plate was the Sweet Tomato and Onion mixture. I don't know how they make it or what it's officially called in the Middle East but it is damn good, especially when eaten together with the meat and hummus. I asked them to put extra and they did and they gave me some in a cup on the side, which made me so happy. This was a last minute desicion. The place we were going to had tables, but also had signs on the tables saying take out only. So we walked out and decided to see what else was in the plaza. Low and behold, there was Sunrise pita. I'd been waiting to eat here for a while. Since it was a last minute desicion, I felt a little bit rushed on what to have. It was a good thing I was looking at the shawarma because when he said shawarma to me. He might have been reading my mind. I went with the small shawarma plate, and it was an excellent choice. It came with a pita bread, and I got it with most of the options, onion, tomatoes, cucumbers, red cabbage, some kind of tomato salad, and, of course, eggplant salad. I think I could have just had a plate of eggplant by itself. They also had one pound container of hot peppers and pickles mix buy one get one, I had to have one. The peppers were not too hot, and the pickles had just enough heat to make the flavor pop. They were so good! Now, my wife she had a tuna pita combo with French fries. I had a few fries, and they were good. She ate the entire thing. She must have liked it. For lunch, it might have been a bit pricey, but it was well worth it. With a really clean restaurant, good service and great food, how can you go wrong. read more

My husband and I have been dining at Sunrise Pita & Grill for over 10 years. This last Sunday, I experienced food poisoning. I order a grilled chicken breast on wheat pita with the following toppings: hummus, lettuce, tomato, sweet and tahini. I also ordered a side of fries. Within 10 minutes of eating, I knew something was wrong. I had this burning sensation inside my stomach. I went home and had some ginger ale and tums, but it didn't help. I had lost hope for amazing pita down here after Pita N Go in boca closed. This place reminds me so much of it. Tastes completely authentic and fresh. Friendly service. Upset I haven't tried it sooner. I ordered the kebab pita, it was cooked perfectly. I added pretty much all of the toppings, but kept the spicy dressing to the side. After we saw the good reviews on Yelp we decided this was our best bet. I didn't come in expecting much, because I know it is a small old restaurant in small old shopping plaza, but for the amount of money I paid I expected better tasting food. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't terrific either, it was just OK. The service was good, so that's a plus. Sunrise Pita I still love you with all five stars in my heart, but this last visit was a bit disappointing. It was about 7pm on a weekday evening when we rolled in. Parking lot bumping as usual, and almost every seat was filled. I noticed the shawarma spit was empty, and that made my stomach sink. Before I was told, I heard they'd sold it all out. The look of disappointment on my face had to be apparent as I scrambled to revise my order for our large group. See I only ever order shawarma and falafel, so I don't know about any of the other dishes on the menu! I settled on some beef kabab? chicken kabab and young chicken plates, as well as falafel and an extra salad spread. They handed us some big bags of food, but when we got home quickly realized we probably should've ordered more. See the shawarma portion is so darn generous, and the full plate can easily feed three hungry people, by when that's a chicken plate, it's more like 1.5 people. The salads though, there was plenty to go around, and of course we got a lot of the delicious pickles (don't skip the carrots!). I know shawarma is the signature, but I wish the other meals measured up to that level of generosity. Kosher meat is pricey, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I couldn't help being a little disappointed. Not to worry. We shall return! And much earlier too. In this neck of the woods, it's the closest thing you will find to authentic Israeli street food. The place is not fancy. Walk in and place your order st the counter. The counter people are not warm and fuzzy but they get the job done. You can order shawarma, chicken, falafel in a pita or a platter. There are also a variety of salads that you can add to your pita or platter, or order by the pound. My favorite is the Salad Platter: Hummus, Grape Leaves, and a whole bunch of salads. Eggplant, babaganush, Turkish salad...I love the amalgamation of textures and flavors The platter is served with hot, fluffy, delicious pita, as are all the pitas. This little, heavenly Israeli restaurant should be on everyone's radar! It's not the best location and it's not in the greatest looking strip mall, but go anyway! My husband and I ate Lunch here a week ago on a Sunday and we were so impressed with the delicious food! Upon entering, it was a bit confusing as to where to order. I walked up to the register and waited in line to order. Once it was my turn, about 5 people later, the guy said to go to the other part of the line to wait and order, then come back to pay. A sign would be nice for first timers! The sweetest young man took our order. I told him we were first timers and he explained each side accompaniment and salad option for my Mini Shawarma Plate. This Shawarma is made with lamb and turkey and is flavorful and yummy! My husband ordered the Young Israeli Hummus Plate. This was a generous portion of their creamy and dreamy hummus, topped with tender chicken pieces and tahini. Both of our dishes were served with a piping hot portion of the fluffiest pita! Each dish ordered here comes with an unlimited amount of self-serve Israeli salads. They have pickled beets, carrots, cucumber and dill salad, cabbage salad, marinated onions, and spicy peppers mixed with sweet Israeli pickle chips. All of these ingredients exceeded my expectations in terms of freshness and flavor! Beverage choices include authentic Israeli juices (in a can with Hebrew labeling) as well as a yummy sparkling apple soda from Israel. I really enjoyed the apple soda! Dropped off my car and went across the street to sunrise Pita and Grill. It was around lunchtime and they were super packed but surprisingly the line went quick. I got a Schwarma pita filled with lettuce, taziki sauce, hummus and caramelized onions. It was stuffed to the max! Couldn't even finish it all. Also, got an order of frys, it was such a good portion, you could share it with somebody. Wow. I loved this place and they have been doing it right for decades. Super friendly staff! Bearded guy made my pita exactly as I wanted it and it was impressive. They are located in a small strip mall that should have enough parking, and it features a stop light so you can cross University without an issue. The only thing negative there was no ice-machine. I really enjoy my coke zero with lots of ice and wish they would have had ice. Customize it any way you want here. Portions are generous, prices are not. Softest, non leaking pita that I've had in a long, long time. So quick, so convenient and what's not to like right? Bowls, baguettes, pitas, salads...and mini meals make this a great place for selection. They close at 8pm which I found to be a touch early and close on Saturdays. I have had this place book marked for some time and finally got to try it yesterday 1/15/2018 between appointments. I was NOT disappointed. A little confused, but not disappointed. I was lucky, as I walked in about 10 minutes before it started getting crazy. I ordered a falafal pita and fries. The falafal were freshly fried so they were nice and warm when I sat to eat. There are a lot of different toppings to put on the pita and the person behind the counter walked me through them rather quickly. There was also a free salad area where there were pickled items and a VERY spicy pickle. Wish there was plain/normal pickles there too. I think the actual pita was the softest pita I have ever had. It was delicious that even after I was full I wanted to keep eating. The portion of falafal filled the pita and I never felt that I was eating filler. There was falafal in every bite. The fries and pita are served in these little colanders and they have no trays. They don't expect payment until you're done, so be honest at to what you ordered. I checked in via Yelp and got a free dessert. The check in says baklava however I was given the choice of the baklava or rugala. It is already wrapped to go...and that's how I took it as I was full. The woman at the register was super nice and helpful. About 10 minutes into my sitting down the place exploded. The line wraps in front of the counter and not out the door. There is outside seating and a nice amount of inside tables plus a bar area for community seating. This is Israeli owned, so expect for them to be closed early on Friday and closed on Saturday. In addition I am sure the are also closed for other Jewish Holidays. They look like this would be posted in advanced on the door. They had a sign indicating they close at 3pm Friday right now due to sunset being earlier this time of year. With that said the clientele was very diverse and that was awesome to see.
