I had a taste for some seafood and decided to go to this restaraunt since it was walking distance from my college campus. As soon as I entered, I was greeted and was told to make myself right at home and to sit down at any table that I wanted to. The inside of the restaraunt was small but cozy and gave a "at home" comfort feel vibe. There is a nice size bar and a few tables scattered around for seating. I ordered the sunset punch which was there signature drink, it was really delicious! I believe the server told me it had a mixture of 3 alcohols in it. It did not taste strong at all but I definitely felt it. It was a really good mixture. For my entree I ordered the fried scallops, fries, and coleslow. My scallops were fried exactly to my liking and were nice shape sizes. I personally do not like coleslaw - but i really enjoyed the taste of their coleslaw. The server informed me that she doesn't make her coleslaw mayonaise based. It was soo good! She also gave me a side of soysauce for my scallops which was my first time trying that combination. It was really good, definitely gave the scallops an extra flavorful kick to it. If you are near ODU college campus, I would suggest this spot if you have a taste for some seafood! read more

Very cute, intimate place serving excellent seafood! We stopped by for lunch and were greeted cheerily. Menu was not huge, but plenty of options. Unfortunately, no soft shell crab available currently, so we "settled" for starting with a dozen oysters. Their version of a dozen was 14...New Math but not complaining! Fresh and briney from Eastern Shore; we devoured them. I has fish tacos, fresh fish with blackened seasoning, wife had fish & chips. The fish was fresh, local rockfish, and didn't need vinegar or sauce of any sort. Owner/cook was pleasant to talk with, and we truly enjoyed ourselves. Amazing gem found by Yelp reviews and YES the seafood is so fresh it could still be swimming! We started with a dozen oysters on the half shell, Eastern Shore and yummy. Lip smacking great. Then Hubs had fish tacos while I had fish and chips. First time I didn't need malt vinegar for the fish which was a sea bass that was so fresh it flaked off my fork. Humm. I guess my expeditions were set high because the 4.5 stars on Yelp. Not so much guys we saw fresh seafood and was like oh yeah!! My boyfriend and I shared the fried seafood platter. Very mediocre for $40. I got a sunset punch which was good. On the plus side, the lady who was working was very friendly. There was another guy who was helping out who was very attentive. Stopped in for some seafood while on vacation and was not disappointed! The staff was friendly, and although I forgot their names I won't forget their smiling faces and kindness! Their food is made fresh daily and it truly shows. Something as generic as a chicken strip was made homemade and you could taste it in every bite! Walked in and got the stink eye because we wear masks. No music, no ambiance, no style. Extremely small dining area. No one greeted us instead another customer told us to sit wherever. Didn't get service for 10 minutes. I was ready to leave but my husband convinced me to stay because we wanted seafood. Bars on the windows, exposed pipes, uneven floors.. Felt like a pawnshop more than a restaurant. Idk who eats here but if you're younger than 60, avoid. We were by far the youngest in the place at 30 besides one waiter. The food is not great. Under seasoned and they don't supply salt, pepper, or anything at the table. Will not be back. Edit: $113 for two people, mediocre food, no music, barely any service, not even at GD salt and pepper on the tables???!!! AVOID. Best seafood in 757. I had stuffed soft shell and wife had crab cake. Brother and sis in law had salads and fried oysters. All was A 10 on a scale of 5. Eastern shore oysters were the best , juicy and salty, everything was so good we ordered more oysters and two more sofeshells , not stuffed this time. They were so big we almost couldnt eat them, but so good we forced ourselves. What a great find! We were a party of 6: 2 kids and 4 adults. Michele met us at the door and she pushed some tables together and we sat down. The restaurant was small and intimate. The building dated back to early 1900s. There was a guitarist singing oldie songs. We ordered some drinks: beers and margaritas. Great beer and great tasting margaritas with Patron. Excellent ! We ordered appetizers: nachos and a dozen raw oysters. Again, excellent service and food. I ordered the crab cakes. The owner and chef came out to tell me they only had one crab cake, so she asked if she could substitute three fried shrimp. Wow that was delicious! My wife ordered fried clam strips with a summer slaw. The seafood was excellent! The food was great and Michele did everything: hostess, waitress and bus boy. If you are in Norfolk, VA, please visit this small restaurant for a wonderful dining experience! This was our first night of our vacation in Norfolk. Great food, great drinks and great sevice! Great place for authentic and tasty seafood! Definitely a hidden gem. I only wish they had more menu options and that they had more description. Also there's not much difference from the apps and the entrees that I could see. The portions were on the small side. A cup of soup was exactly that in a tea cup. OMGS!!! I FOUND THE HIDDEN SEAFOOD GEM OF NORFOLK!!! After a hour of searching for an open restaurant on Sunday to dine in at we happened apon Sunset Grill. Entered into a cute, clean dining area at met the owner/chef extraordinaire Cathy. We started with drinks and appetizer......let's start with the smoked oysters appetizer served over hot plate of melting brie with wine, garlic and fresh made tortilla chips; utter perfection of smokey, melting, crunchy goodness. Next Sunset Punch, mixed 4 rums with fruity juices and you have an amazing island paradise in a glass. We split the Fried Seafood Platter because it was HUGE; seabass, scallops, oysters, shrimp, soft shelled crab, clams and crab cake served over fries and a small cucumber salad. This restaurant is my new favorite when I'm visiting Norfolk. The food, the service, the ambiance...all just stellar, and it doesn't hurt that the location was close to where I was staying. The tuna bites were so phenomenal, I don't think I've had such fresh tuna before. We also ordered the crab cakes and the tres tacos, which I couldn't finish, but were great for lunch the next day. On our 2nd visit Kathy made some ice cream nachos..fresh tortilla chips with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream! Enjoyed an amazing lunch today at Sunset Grill. Don't let the location fool you.....this place is clean, friendly, and the seafood is wonderful. I had the coconut shrimp and my friend had the soft shell crabs.....both were lightly battered and perfectly fried. Not greasy or soggy at all! Tried Sunset Grill this evening. A very casual, laid-back restaurant. However, service was outstanding and food even better. We started with oysters on half shell which were terrific. We ordered a dozen, but were served far more. For entrees, we ordered soft shell crab and the tre tacos. Both were great. Obviously made to order. Even the fries were crispy and delicious. I found out about Sunset from a food group on Facebook. The person who went posted a picture of their soft shell crabs......WOW. It was amazing.....I had soft shells and fried shrimp. The batter is so light, almost like a rice flour. You taste the seafood and not over seasoned. My sister had the coconut shrimp and coconut fish. She said it was amazing. I'd be lying if I said I don't consistently think about their superior soft shell crab, mouth watering scallops, melt like butter in your mouth sea bass, and their perfectly fried coconut shrimp. The cocktail sauce is also sooo yummy! If I lived in the area I'd be there on the regular, no cap! Best kept secret in Hampton Roads! The owner (who may be your waitresa, your bartender, or both!) buys everything from the local fish markets and can tell you exactly where your meal came from. This is a hidden gem. I absolutely love the seafood, the atmosphere, and the staff. Grace was extremely enthusiastic about helping us and the owner was incredibly kind. The "coco loco" was perfectly breaded and had an excellent fresh, homemade coleslaw with it (with walnuts and cranberries). The salads were also fresh and the ahi tuna on top was cooked perfectly. Funky little place on the edge of ODU. Lady proprietor makes good recommendations! Excellent lightly breaded seafood; we shared three entrees, fish, clams, and shrimp. Since they had some nice oysters that just arrived from cedar island, she offered to do 1/2 and 1/2 with the shrimp entree. Living in the desert, we don't get much fresh seafood here. When we were passing through Norfolk on a recent trip in July 2021, I looked up Yelp reviews for great seafood restaurants around Norfolk. Sunset grill came up and I liked what I read, so off we went. It was a quaint little neighborhood bar and restaurant with live music. Guitar player that night. We were the only diners for a short time and the owner/cook came out and greeted us personally. She told about the specials and how she personally hand picks all of her oysters. She even convinced my seafood-hating husband to try a fried oyster. She couldn't convert him, but I was impressed that he ate it! He had fried clams, I had the seafood platter. The scallops and fish were so creamy and delicate, perfectly cooked! The clams, oysters and soft-shell crab were very good as well. The bartender was a sweetheart and checked in on us just the right amount of times. We took the white chocolate ganache pie to go and that was amazing!
