Ok this is sad that I HAVE to write this review: In my photo is the assistant manager and staff who laughed at my wife and I when I asked what cleaning solution does the butcher section use because my chicken smells and tastes like bleach, and this guy had the audacity to ask us to show him the cooked chicken, well jokes on him cause we brought it - and he didn't even bother to smell/taste it himself, just thought we were lying. We came here when I was sick and wanting to make some chicken soup (good for the soul right); veggies, chicken quarters, whole nine, and I knew SK had the cheapest prices, well you get what you pay for here because I made a soup with the chicken and all of the veggies that tasted like bleach- and it wasn't from my house cause the unused chicken and the bag it came in smelled like bleach too; and because the chicken was inedible the whole thing was questionable, but this guy said he would only refund us the chicken; it was literally an extra $6 in produce.... This assistant manager (which I'll shorten to "ass man" to save time) told us that he would only refund the chicken because that's what was bad, and when we asked to get the veggies we put in the soup refunded, he laughed and said no, because the veggies were still good.... well no, because they were put in the soup.... "so?".... we can't eat it now because the chicken was bad, so everything that was cooked with the chicken is bad.... "(silence)", it's all not edible.... "but it was just the chicken that was bad".... and also the veggies because it was in the soup.... do you not get it...? We spent about 20 minutes round and around with this guy and their associate... thankfully manager came by and refunded us the total after asking his Ass Man to take a walk. The manager apologized and said he understood and refunded us the chicken AND veggies. Later that night I threw out the salmon and shrimp I bought also because those too smelled awful. Overall tossed $19 worth of food to avoid throwing up overnight or risk getting my family sick and I couldn't go through the ass man again to get THAT refunded. Avoid this place if you can afford it. Poorly managed facility that doesn't share the care for its customers like other grocery stores. Guy acts like he owns the place, like he's someone's spoiled nephew. Honestly if the ass man had apologized, got me the simple info I had asked for (which he said "I know what [cleaning solution] they use but I'm not going to tell you") and maybe refunded me I would not be writing this, but the customer "service" from him was so atrocious - if you've never been laughed at for caring about your health this guy will be happy to step up, that I will NEVER step foot into a Super King EVER again. Super King is like going to a modern day Souk. In some ways it's challenging making a choice especially when you don't know much about the product. There is not only one manufacturer of Basturma but 5. Not just one Cotija cheese but 4. This supermarket is packed with a plethora of food mainly focusing on Latino & Armenian foodstuff since this area of the San Fernando Valley around Van Nuys & North Hollywood reflects those demographic. However, you do see a good number of Euro Americans & various Asians coming too since we live in such a culturally free flowing region that is Southern California. The vegetables & fruits are usually lower than traditional big store American markets. But look closely to make sure they look & feel fresh since sometimes the lower prices are due to obtaining older, mark down produce. What fascinates me about SK is their wide selection from the Transcaucus region that includes Armenia, the Middle East & bit of Eastern European possibly due to Armenia having been part of the defunct USSR/Soviet Union. Basturma air dried salt cured meat, herbed w/ garlic, cumin, fenugreek, paprika. Soujuk salt cured sausage flavoured w/ chile, sumac, cumin, garlic. Large number of flat breads such as Lavash by various bakeries, Sangak flat bread of Iran. The dried spice section spreads against a long wall at cheaper prices. Just don't get carried away & buy too much since herbs & spices lose their flavour & aromatics in about a year. Anyway, you get the picture. Go by yourself & nose around. Explore this varied culinary terrain which to me is often new & fascinating. Do NOT go on a weekend. It's an absolute ZOO. Pushing a cart around masses of people milling around willy nilly is super tedious. Way too much sensory overload for me. Plus the lines are looong. All this sapping me of time & energy. Not everything is a bargain here so Caveat Emptor....Buyer, Beware. 3+ Yelp stars for the opportunity to become exposed to new foods you never knew existed. read more

AWFUL treatment by the employees. I've been going to this location for 8 years for produce. I purchase corn weekly and ALWAYS grab a bag of husks appropriate to the amount of ears I am purchasing. I pay for the husks via weight for the corn price. This Wednesday a worker approached me and very rudely insisted that I could not purchase the husks as well. She stated that it is company policy that they send them to compost. I explained that I have been buying them for years with no problem. She reached in my cart and forcefully yanked them from my cart. I asked her why she was taking them from my cart and told her not to touch the items I had in my cart for purchase. She insisted on calling security, which I agreed with and waited for. I explained to them the issue, she countered by saying I hit her. I insisted to security that they review the camera footage and if that was true agree to wait for the police to come, but if they see that it's untrue, they need to have the employee apologize. I actually like super king markets because of there prices and freshness of their produce! Their deli and liquor section is definitely top tier price wise! The reason I'm giving them 3 stars is because their cashiers and security can be quite rude! I hate pulling the race card but I've had them try to play me more than once! Like today the cashier rang up my stuff and threw the bags on top of my items after she checked me out. I asked her if she was going to bag my groceries and she said no! I asked why, she said they don't provide that service. I looked around and there was a bagger at literally every check out loading up bags for the customers- some had cashiers helping? I made her aware and asked if I needed to contact management and she finally grabbed a person to bag my groceries. This has happened to me more than once. I've also had security monitor me extra closely in the liquor area. While other patrons shopped freely, they seemed to follow me around. I will say that although the cashiers can be funny, when I asked for help loading my groceries into the car, the folks who monitor the door are quite accommodating. read more

One star off because of the bad meat ( pork steak legs meat) $1.69 per pound. I bought 5 pieces which Cost me almost $12.00 on 3-27-22. I went home and started washing the meat 2 pieces and boiled and washed and smelled the meat: it's smell awful . Do I dump to the trash. Getting out other 3 pieces and smell first and it smell badly. There was an employee talking to a manager (in armenian, seemed angry about something) as he leaned up against the glass display shelving. He looked at me up and down and didn't move even tho i was clearly trying to look at the bottles past him. We stopped by this Super King location last week to do some grocery shopping. We haven't been here since before March, when COVID hit. We didn't realize how much we missed going here for produce! We pulled into the parking lot to find a line to get it. The parking lot was full, but not as full as it normally would be. We parked and headed over to wait in line. As we waited, I noticed they sprayed down the shopping carts with disinfectant spray, which was nice to see. We waited in line fore about 5 minutes before we were let inside the store. They have a whole process on how to enter the store. Basically made you go all the way around the store, instead of heading straight into the produce section as it normally would. Social distancing is enforced, but when we actually got into the store, there seemed to be a large number of people inside the store, so if was hard to maintain a 6ft distance between one another. I did appreciate the fact they had hand sanitizer throughout the store. Will I come here again? Maybe, for our next big grocery haul, but definitely not for when I need to grab something real quick. read more

There is nothing you could ever do to make me like Super King. Low prices? Yeah, they've got them but that certainly doesn't make up for how painful it is to step foot inside the grocery market and buy your items. For starters, the parking lot is a mess. People on people on people and cars have no concept of sticking to their side of the lane or even parking correctly. Second, the clientele at Super King is just... if you could think of a grocery version of Walmart then that's exactly what Super King is. People come here in droves. I swear it's like a family outing to make it out to Super King with just how many people bring their kids and grandparents here just to buy FOOD. And don't even get me started on the check out line. At least they can say that they have almost every lane open, but that doesn't make up for how S L O W their checkers are. And I mean slow!!! I don't know if they're giving awards to their employees for who can possibly check people out the slowest but damn is it always at least a 10 minute wait to get my food paid for. If you've got the patience of God then Super King might be alright for you. But with the chaos that surrounds this grocery store, I'll be sure to pay a few cents or dollars extra to avoid such a pain. read more

Be careful- you may get overcharged on an item. I bought Tilalia at the store 07/07. I called ahead and the last on the phone told me to circle the item and just go to the service desk. This is a bargain store. As with every bargain there is a catch. To star off with, the grade of vegetables and meats is on the low end. Be cautious of what you buy. I see tons of spoiled or ready to spoil veggies on the stands, and what irks me the most is that when I bring it up to the attention of the MOD or staff, the brush it off. They don't give a damn from the Manager to the restocking clerks. Be very careful with what is labeled as Olive Oil, they carry many brands that state Olive Oil blend and when you read the ingredients, Olive Oil is just 10% to 5% of the contents...the rest is Canola Oil. There are other markets in the area where you get better products, and better service. I honestly think the staff doesn't give a damn, which may be because they are not properly compensated. Alternatives: Jon's Market, Olive Fresh, Vallarta, Wholefoods and now Aldi's, 99 Ranch Market. read more

But when it comes to having conversations with other co workers they'll even yell across the room and start laughing and have a full on conversations. Managers do not care. The Super King has been my go-to spot for years when it comes to fresh produce. The prices here really can't be matched and for the most part, the produce is always in stock. I haven't shopped in other parts of the store..I stay away from the meat market due to the foul smell surrounding it BUT I do buy pita bread here from the bakery section. You wouldn't think they would have a wide selection of different pita breads but they actually have a lot! The only downside here is how crowded it gets. Almost every time I shop here it's like a bunch of piranhas fighting for the last red onion. Okay maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit...but still, it gets VERY crowded here and the checkout lines tend to stay long. None of this deters me from shopping here though and I can promise that the price of the produce and selection of pita bread is worth it! read more

Staff does not GAF here. The store advertises a sushi platter for parties so I thought Id try it out for a party. They only had one large platter so I got that one and several of the smaller platters. When ringing up the large platter the cashier tilted the platter completely vertically to ring it up and all the sushi got squished together. The creamy ones got all the cream all messy on the other ones. It was messy! I asked if they could make me another one and they were like idk you can go ask the sushi counter. I should have just left all the sushi. It was a waste of $70 and neither the manager or the cashier were remotely apologetic about their own f* up. I mean I get it, they probably don't get paid enough to care so I'm not blaming them so much as blaming a store that clearly doesn't care enough to have that attention trickle down to the customer. This place is always super crowded but it's likely because of the cheaper prices on produce and meats and a large selection of specialty foods and culturally specific items. I'm a huge fan of stocking up on fruits and veggies here because NOWHERE in LA have I found 20 limes for $0.99 before (great for margaritas! ). Today is 8/2 and I bought the pork yesterday. the package looked nice and clean. the pork looks fresh. the smell is as if the pork sat in its own blood for a week. r. its likely that they mix old pork with new pork and slap on a new expiration date to save costs just like on the news report. so disgusting. read more
