Unfortunately, Suram has decided to charge a $3 fee for delivery; regardless of their reason for doing so, other sushi resturant's in the area do not (check out Sushi Yasaka on 72nd street). I really enjoyed the food at Suram! The location is a little harder to get to but I think for UWS sushi, it's definitely worth it. I initially looked at this place because I was hoping to find a sushi place with a good ambiance and more affordable prices. I booked a last-minute day-of reservation (they had a few open) but I think walk-in would be okay as well. I got the Shoyu Ramen today for take out. It was horribly bland. The broth wasn't really flavorful and the chicken pieces tasted like they were boiled with no seasonings. They don't care about cross contamination or sesame allergies!! Beware. Ordered avocado maki rolls delivery and they were riddled with stray sesame seeds even though 1. Maki rolls don't typically have sesame in general 2. Suram has a modifications box I could check stating "NO SESAME" and 3. I put "No sesame, allergic to sesame" in the description box. Tried picking out sections that touched the seeds, but gave up and had to throw it all out. 1 stray seed is cross contamination, 10 stray seeds is careless. read more

Yes. Yes. Yes. The West Side is begging for restaurants and I'm so excited that SURAM is one of the first to open up. My wife and I were excited to see the vacant spot open up a while back as here is where we wait for our bus for our morning commute. Being huge fans of ramen and sushi we were over the moon that we now had a place walking distance and didn't have to order in any more We tried it as take out one night due to the place being very packed and relatively small, but we were immediately in love. The Crispy Rice is top notch. Super flavorful and the textures are all around such a mix of amazingness. The ramen is super creamy and decadent which makes such a good time. The sushi is super fresh and delicious every time. We've been here a few times and every time is just as amazing as the last. We continuously bring new friends here and they love is just as much as we do. Tonight the place was booming as usual, but the owners (I'm assuming) and staff accommodated us so quickly and efficiently to ensure the whole party sat together. We were able to try a Sake that they now offer and it was really really good. The ambiance is amazing. Not too bright and not too dark, and the staff is always so warm and welcoming. Oh my God. The sushi from here is fabulous. We had the rock shrimp and the jalapeño yellowtail and spicy scallop. Everything was fabulous.

It would do much better with a little more signage but this Japanese restaurant is a rare treat, especially in an area that is a bit of a restaurant desert. Yesterday was our 6-person group's second visit after a performance at the Manhattan Movement and Dance Center on 60th Street right around the corner on West End and more visits will come. The food is exceptional and not all your usual sushi fare. The miso soup is straight from Japan: a perfectly balanced fish broth and beautiful clouds of miso ,welcome on that cold day.The three crispy rice and fish roll platters are divine. We tried and shared all three. I had the Suram Bowl which consists of a mix of bite-size pieces of three or four types of fish over spicy flavored rice topped with tobiko (flying fish roe) and a green. Service was gracious and courteous. I could go on but will just urge you to try this tiny yet authentic Japanese eatery. read more

Little gem. I was in the city and had a little bit of time to kill and a craving for sushi, so I walked from my hotel to Suram. The staff was kind and let me know when I got there that they wouldn't be offering hot items due to a mechanical issue. So, instead of miso soup, I ordered a delicious green salad, along with two rolls. The sushi was very tasty and the flavor of the spicy salmon and yellowtail crunchy roll, which were delicious.
