The Old Brown Bag. I was getting tired of eating so many burritos so I decided to check this place out. For us old timers, this place was the Old Brown Bag Sandwich shop located across the street from Aldaberto's. First this place is big. It's got two entrances and of course I went to the back which was the front of the original Brown Bag. In the corner, is the TV and a small area for live music. There's also book shelves dedicated to our Navy hero's. I appreciate a business that remembers those that make sacrifices everyday. BRAVO ZULU. I'm sure you can build your own sandwich but I decided to stick with their signature menu. They carry about 15 named sandwiches with different side salads. On this day, they had poke. I chose #15 Feel The Thunder. It was good. The brisket had flavor but I would have chosen a different roll. The bread was a little hard and the BBQ sauce would cause the meat to slide out when bitten into. White bread or a soft bun would be ideal. So choose your bread wisely. Poke was actually good. Not too salty and the seaweed added a great texture. I didn't care for the edamame beans with the fish so I ate those separately. Overall four stars. Service and food good. THIS is what a sandwich should be like. It was everything I wanted and hoped for. I got the USS Nimitz sandwich. Good amount of turkey, bread had a nice toast on the outside but still soft and it wasn't TOO MUCH bread which I like. Sometimes it's a hit or miss with delis, (for me) because it's so much bread and little turkey. This was the perfect proper portion and balance of everything. AND THEIR COOKIES ARE SOOO GOOD. We got the tri-tip sandwich. The meat was fresh and still warm! The crispy jalepenos were a nice touch. The roll was crispy and the condiments did not overpower the meat. One sandwich was enough to share for a light lunch. It made for a perfect quick picnic by the bay. Love everything! Any of their sandwiches can be made into a salad. I ordered their #1 in salad form. Eating it was like excavating delicious treasures. I've been coming to this place well before Surf Side Deli was a thing, of course back during the Brown Bag days. I can say that between the two, I definitely prefer Surf Side Deli way more! What I love about Surf Side Deli is that the guys who work here are outstanding and they are just pumping these sandwiches out to anyone who wants a delicious deli sandwich! These guys have the best attitude and they are going to make you the deli sandwich of your dreams here! Speaking of delicious sandwiches, I love their ham and swiss which is lovingly dubbed "South Side"! Their bagette is great paired with great tasting ham and swiss! So lately I have been on a mission to pay attention earlier and wait for their FB post and today I FINALLY was able to call ahead and pick up dinner! First off $25 dollars for two meals anywhere is a deal and this place does not cheap out on quality or portions! Today I got the Shrimp pappardelle with tomato, basil, garlic and a creamy shrimp bordelaise sauce. The pappardelle was cooked perfectly, the shrimp were nice and big, and the sauce was light! I loved it! I also got their carrot cake which was amazing! I can't wait to try more of their to go dinners! I just really wished they would come out with a menu and would post it before hand on what will be served on what days! Sometimes I don't go on fb until later and I miss their posts and some people don't even have fb they are really missing an opportunity to grow. I also was a fan of Crab Catcher and was super sad to see that they left. I loved going their for brunch! I ate the Slightly Stupid sandwich and could only finish half. Honestly I wish the sauces on the sandwich had more uhm, flavor. For me that's what really makes A sandwich stick out. Their staff is very laid back and friendly. I enjoy the chill atmosphere. I also enjoy sitting outside and getting a good smell of the tri tip when it's on the grill. Second, at the moment I'm doing okay, but I picked up a meal for my buddy (70 yr old cabbie), and one for his buddy, a 70 plus retiree. Yup, the deal's for real! Aside from that, they offer a long menu of unique submarine sandwiches, plus the usual side stuff. I ordered a 'Slightly Stupid' sub sandwich for myself. Delicious. Top quality black forest ham and turkey, good cheese, crispy shredded lettuce, and the bread is much better than Subway's. They also offer soup and some other stuff, not sure, I was in a rush.
