It was nice to see this addition to the food joints on 17th although I didn't have high expectations. The location had been a crepe place & doctor's office, then a MMJ shop, and now this restaurant. The food is consistently good. However, the service tends to be very slow - sometimes we go elsewhere because we just don't have enough time for the slow service. The last time we were there we noticed gnats crawling all over the windows next to us, and all the windows were covered with streaks and swirls from a really bad wash job. I must say, I love the sushi here, but I think I love the people even more! They're always attentive but not intrusive, and always smiling. Even the sushi chefs are characters. The happy hour has great prices for sushi/sashimi and sake. They also accommodated a short notice larger party when they were fairly busy as well, kudos for that!! Wow what a surprise this place was! For a land locked mile high city, Denver has more sushi bars than you can even remember, and Sushi Bay holds it's weight against any of them. The service was excellent and the fish was fresh. It's not as extravagant or trendy as Sushi Den or Sushi Sasa, but the lunch specials are unbeatable. They also have tv's and all you can eat sushi on Sundays so you can conquer tuna and watch the Broncos at the same time. That's like a John Elway wet dream. read more

I love the people here and the food! I always order to go for work, so I have never been "in" to eat. But the staff is always super friendly! I came in today to pick up my order, and I was pretty early, but knew it, and told them I was early. They apologized anyway because they thought they were running late and they totally weren't (haha). But while I waited they gave me a green tea which was very nice :) It's a very cute establishment, clean, and attractive on the inside. We always get the sushi roll combo lunch, which is awesomely priced because you get soup AND salad too for $9.50. I can't wait to actually dine in and try some of their specialty rolls!! read more

The fish is fresh (we had yellowtail, salmon, and blue crab in our sushi), the sushi is large for the price with a good balance of fish to rice. We came for happy hour (Saturday, Sunday, and some hours during the week) and their already great prices are reduced by at least $1 on every roll. Spend less than $30 on five rolls! Our waiter was really friendly and patient, which is a plus. Note about gluten / gluten-free: they mark which rolls are GF and they don't put soy sauce on any of their fish so it's a safe choice! Stopped in on Sunday for dinner on the patio. staff is super friendly and attentive. It was a little quieter, but I assume everyone was headed to jazz at CP evidenced by all the cruisers on 17th headed east. We were tempted to order the all you can eat sushi, but turned off by sushi onl (no sashimi) option, and not understanding what they meant by leftover sushi rice would be charged. Not that this is a detractor, we just didn't feel it was where we wanted to go with ordering. We ordered oysters ($10 for a half dozen) , sign me up. Although no mignonette sauce, but that is ok considering having oysters on the menu was a nice touch by our account. We also got some sashimi, a nice seaweed salad to share, and a 17 roll (just get it and you will know). Definitely worth checking out. read more

Can't believe I haven't written a review on Sushi Bay having been here as many times as we have. We've been coming here since they opened a few years back and since then, Sushi Bay has not only become our go to sushi restaurant, but rather has become our go to restaurant period. They have an exceptional happy hour with discounted sake, wine, and beer, but most importantly, nigiri pieces ranging from $1 to $1.75. This wouldn't be as remarkable of a deal if the sushi wasn't good. Any place can bode cheap sushi, but if the sushi isn't fresh or good, it ain't worth eating. Believe me, they have some of the best sushi I've had in Denver. One might hear that a lot in reviews, but their super white tuna, yellowtail, and albacore are some of the best bites of fish I've ever had. The plates of sushi are beautifully prepared and the slices of fish on the nigiri are exceptionally large. Forgot the disproportionate ratio of rice to fish in which rice overwhelms the fish that you find at some joints trying to jip you and fill you up on rice. Sushi Bay doesn't play that game. Rather they serve up some massive slices of fresh fish for their nigiri and sashimi. The happy hour is so exceptional that after a couple drinks each, a shared seaweed salad and edamame, and about 25 to 30 pieces of nigiri, we barely break $50 before tip. Undoubtedly, I would recommend Sushi Bay for not only their incredible happy hour, but for any sushi lover that wants a fix of exceptional sushi. read more

Yay! A decent priced Sushi restaurant in the neighborhood, that has parking! (No offense, Okanawa) My mother and I had a great experience at Sushi Bay 17. We were in for happy hour on a Sunday and the happy hour prices were amazing! Great and fresh tasting rolls and nigiri. The out of the box thing to try here is their fried brussel sprouts sprouts with bacon! The maple glaze on these were perfection! I can't remember the wine happy hour special but it was a good deal. They only issue I have with this place has nothing to do with the restaurant itself. Update your website with a happy hour menu. So good! I often grab lunch to go, three rolls for $13.50 and it comes with a salad and a soup. Their happy hour deals are great, presentation is always awesome, and they have a a solid selection of vegetarian options. Ambiance somehow feels a little off. I love Sushi Bay 17's Sunday All-You-Can-Eat sushi menu. Their happy hour is affordable and delicious, too; the only downside is it is expensive unless you're starving. My favorite is the super white tuna, which is really flavorful and melts in your mouth. Unless Caleb is working, I usually don't go. He's the best server they have. I wish they had more variety of drinks and beers, but it is typical of most Sushi tap-lineups. Their regular menu is slightly expensive, to be honest. That said, the way i see it is if the basic rolls are great, then the rest will be great. ABOVE and BEYOND ANY other Sushi restaurant that I have tried in Denver!!! Will absolutely be coming back to this new spot over & over again and will also recommend this place to anyone asking where they can get GREAT Sushi in town! A+++ UPDATED 06.23.14 - The ONLY complaint that I have, is that every time we go in there, they are playing music that completely doesn't fit the environment. Although fabulous bands, I just don't think that Sublime & The Police add to the ambiance of the space. I am extremely disappointed with my Sushi Bay 17 experience. My roommate decided to order some sushi tonight and I asked if she could get me some sashimi. Since my roommate was not at our apartment at the time of the delivery arriving I grabbed the food from the driver. The driver gave me two bags. I opened them both thinking one order was my roommates. The food was sitting in my apartment opened until my roommate got home and let me know it was not hers. By that time the delivery driver called and text me saying he gave me the wrong order. He had given me someone's $127.00 order. I called him back and let him know I had opened it due to not knowing if it was my order or not. He said he needed to come pick it back up and deliver to the right people. He came back to pick up the open order and asked to have the paper bag that came with it. I let him know I had already tossed it. The fact that Sushi Bay 17 went to go deliver this order to whoever ordered it is just wrong. Especially during a pandemic!! I feel awful for whoever spent $127.00 for some sushi that had been in a strangers apartment open for an extended period of time. When I called a manager to let them know this happened they did nothing about it. I will never feel comfortable eating at this place again after this experience. read more

I have been here twice and it is just OK for me. The first time was last summer and the sushi was not the freshest tasting but not horrible. The only reason I went back was to meet a group of friends in the area and this was the place they chose. It is an easy meeting spot with free, off street parking on a Sunday. They have a lunch combo for $9.50 that includes two rolls, a very large miso soup and a side salad. The place is clean and the service was efficient and all business. I am always a bit weary of all you can eat sushi places but some friends wanted to go on a Sunday night, so we gave it a go. The place was clean and halfway full for the evening and the waiter explained that for Sunday's all you can eat sushi for $30 they prefer if the entire table orders all you can eat but they would make an exception as my husband doesn't really like sushi. You can order as much as you want and as many times as you want but the caveat is that they will charge you for any food you do not eat. After checking the menu and finding enough teriyaki and dumpling options my husband also agreed to the all you can eat. We shared dumplings and salmon teriyaki and plenty of rolls. We also had some sushi pieces and the tuna and salmon were particularly delicious with big thick pieces of fish over rice. I was happy to see that. I'll start by saying this is my 3rd time ordering delivery. First time was perfect. Second time was ok, but the fish was a little fishy and they forgot my side sauces. Meh, whatever, maybe it was an off day. Well, the third time will likely be my last. I ordered the 3 roll lunch special, and all of it is in the trash. The salmon is way too fishy to be fresh, and the california roll (basic of basics) is not only fishy, but has left a terrible and oddly bitter taste in mouth. It's stranger because everything looks presentable and fine, but it's absolutely failing the taste test. *insert sad face* Oh, I did order the yellowtail sashima...that was good and spot on. Now the jalapeño appetizer was fantastic but the sushi was just ok. We got a lot of sashimi and I felt the pieces were cut too thick and the shrimp and mackerel were just not good. I also asked for fresh wasabi but it wasn't the real thing - I think the waiter didn't know but still appreciate the effort! This is my go-to spot for sushi uptown. The service is on point and the sushi is fresh and tasty. There are many rolls and combos to choose from. I wish I could remember which ones I love but when I walk into Sushi Bay I descend into a sushi happy hour frenzy and order 5-10 rolls on the sushi menu and then consume all of them in record time. Anything that is spicy is excellent. Try some of their special sashimi as well - the servers are always happy to suggest sushi specials. Had a bottle of really tasty Malbec for $25. Good deal for three to share. Pork Goyza was yummy too. Fancy light-up (literally) presentation on my BFs sushi platter, I was surprised in a good way. My experience of sushi in land-locked Colorado hasn't been good, so I approached Sushi Bay with trepidation. Boy was I wrong! We went for the late-night happy hour on a Tuesday (think it's on from 9pm-close each day, but isn't listed on their website.) A huge amount of choices, and all the sushi is prepared so beautifully and the taste is out of this world. I already want to go back! Make sure you stop in if you're in the area.
