Pretty good restaurant to grab some dinner downtown. I came here with some friends on a Thursday night. The inside seemed a little crowded with the tables very close together, so we opted for a table outside. I ordered the stir-fried chicken dinner. Bummer that it was a $2 up-charge for brown rice instead of white rice. I enjoyed my dinner and had enough leftover for lunch the next day. The stir-fry has nice flavor and the vegetables still had a good crunch to them. The variety of vegetables in the dish was nice including carrots, onions, mushrooms, and zucchini. I used to be a regular at sushi blue. Unfortunately I no longer am. I booked a reservation for a party of 21 people weeks ahead and even confirmed the day before. When I arrived for our reservation, the manager on duty advised me that they made a mistake with seating other parties and they did not have a section for us. Our party needed to split up and seated separately. 16 individuals would be seated together with 5 people forced to sit separately and not near the larger party. This is totally unacceptable for a larger party with a prior reservation. Who books a reservation for a party to be seated separately?! They offered no resolution nor even a discount (not that a discount would have kept us, but it just goes to show they don't even care to make it right). We got up and left and took our entire party of 21 to another restaurant down the street that was happy to have our business. None of us will go back to sushi blues again. If you are looking for a reliable restaurant for a reservation, avoid this place at all costs!! It is very embarrassing to host an event for a group to then have the restaurant apologize that they accidentally sat another party (a party of 4) in the middle of the section they originally had reserved for you. read more

Our waitress was so helpful in suggesting sushi to try, and the standouts were the Carter Finley (my favorite!), 74/83, and the Wolfpack. Sushi Blues has deteriorated considerably. It had been our favorite place for sushi in Raleigh. The food quality has just become bad. The ginger was a pale pink color, the wasabi was a strange green color similar to what I would find on a Chicago hot dog. We had a very overcooked Spider Roll that was just inedible. I've been coming here since 2014 and still love it. The jazzy blues decor and music playing gives it a really good vibe. They have GF options and the servers are usually educated on all GF options. They have GF soy sauce and they can adjust ingredients on any meal. The staff is friendly and accommodating. If you go late on the afternoon on a weekend there will be a wait time but its worth it. This time I ordered a seaweed salad which they made GF, spicy tuna roll and a salmon, cream cheese and avocado roll. So yummy! Everyone else enjoyed a miso soup, shrimp dumplings, and sushi roles. You get the bang for your buck with the sushi. Bogo deal is bomb. Also tried the noodles and katsu. Katsu lacked flavor and cost $13 for a fried filet with white rice also tried the chicken yakisoba it was really... uhh runny. BUT if you mix the yakisoba with the white rice and add spicy mayo, you got a good combo there. My other complaint about the yakisoba is that it's loaded with green bell peppers and carrots which if you like them it's fine but they're the cheapest f*cking vegetables and then they charge $14 for the dish... so when you order it keep that in mind or tell them to hold the carrots and bell peppers. The COVID set up is stupid as hell lol none of the tables appear to be six feet apart and the outdoor area was absolutely teeming with people talking, coughing, laughing touching everything and the poor servers have no choice but to reach 6 inches In front of people's faces all day long smh. I am so sad to give this place just two stars...but it really wasn't that good. I have high sushi standards and I'm forgiving at times but the rice was so overcooked and roll was so loosely rolled that I felt I could have gotten better sushi at a grocery store. When we walked up to the host stand at 9:30pm on a Saturday night he totally missed us, off talking with friends who worked there. Fine, not a huge deal. The waiter was good - the music was too loud. I have mixed feelings about the ambience. Sushi O across the street is MUCH better. I won't be going back to Sushi Blues. Not worth it. I come here for one reason....To pig out on Sushi! The best in my opinion! I'm so glad they switched over to BOGO Sushi. Before 2010-- The deal was By one, Get one 50% Off. Of course with BOGO you have to split the check with everyone (ugh). That's why I go with a small crowd. Some of my personal favorites--Wolfpack, Clapton, and the Lobster, and don't forget the spicy mayo!! My recent visit to Raleigh, I made a reservation on Open Table. Which wasn't available before. You had to call. Unlike Shiki Sushi, your not obligated to pay for water! Your spending enough money anyways. Drinks are really good! The Margaritas are AMAZING!!!!! Warning!! It's always freezing inside the restaurant, bring a light jacket--or sit outside (the weathers been great) Parking is available behind the building, however you'll have to pay---$5. There's plenty of side street parking. Busy nights (Mostly evenings). There are more tables available during lunch hour (weekdays/weekends). read more

THE BIG: Sushi doesn't cause the blues and that's a fact. Located in the Glenwood district of Raleigh, this place has been alive and poppin since my college days. It also has a huge patio with tons of outdoor seating for those summer dayz. THE BLACK AND WHITE: Like I mentioned earlier, I used to come here once a month on either Tuesday or Thursday in my college days. Those were the designated BOGO sushi, however it seems like everyday is now BOGO, which is amazing!! My usual go to sushi joint was Sushi Nine until it burned down :(. However I'm not too sad as Sushi Blues keeps the prices and flavors in tact that I crave everytime I come down to Raleigh. They do have an expansive menu of Sushi Rolls, but I like it, some people don't. Variety keeps things interesting IMO. The BOGO special counts the most expensive items and you'll receive the cheaper rolls for free. Pick smart and wisely. One of my favorite rolls and a delicious bet is the Wolfpack roll: tempura, crab, avocado, asparagus that is delivered with a spicy mayo drizzle yummmm. You can't go wrong with any of the choices. They do have a Nigiri and Sashimi menu, however I just go for the massive amounts of sushi to ingest. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Since I got 4 rolls, the price was only 2 rolls, which was ~$30 including tip. We used to walk to Sushi Blues every Sunday afternoon to grab a few rolls, a drink and watch some golf. They have the rolls you'd expect a sushi place to have and creative ones that aren't conventional. The menu is huge, but we haven't ever had anything we don't enjoy. We have gone off menu and made our own too. You want to change things up? No problem, they were happy to do it. Even the pickiest of eaters will find something they like on this menu. The only problem is it is he's not to order two rolls per person because they are all by one get one. Can't wait until things start to get back to normal and we can resume our Sunday tradition. The only thing I would change is the beer selection. A few more options would be great, but you can scratch that itch right across the street at Raleigh Beer Garden or the Carolina Ale House. They have a full bar and a decent enough wine selections. If you like wine, go see them on one of their half off bottle days. If I remember correctly, they run a special daily. There will be a wait at peak hours so plan ahead. What do you expect at one of the best spots in Raleigh in one of the most popular neighborhoods? You want to just walk in? The amount of fish in the rolls here seems a wee bit less than at other places in raleigh but the BOGO is still a solid way to get a big portion of sushi in.
