This is one of the best non-Mexican restaurants in Turlock. In addition to their sushi they also have really good tempura. The batter they use is light and binds to the vegetables and shrimp really well. It is always served straight from the fryer so it is nice and hot. The only draw back to this restaurant is it's relatively small size, making it difficult to vie for a table on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

Second time eating here and the food and service is fantastic. First time I was here during peak lunch time and still got attentive service. Our sushi came out relatively quickly and was spot on. Fish was fresh, tender, and delicious. (Rice was a little crispy that day, but that'll happen every now and then). This second time, I popped in around 1pm and sat at the bar. A positive was my meal was ready within 10 minutes of my order. I did not feel the Sushi was very fresh though. I did like the quick service and low prices for their lunch specials. I LOVE this place. I used to eat here at least once a week. Now is only when I get to be in Turlock shopping. This place is so off the charts I used it to introduce my wife to Japanese cuisine. She was charmed!! I'm glad we that is "our" place now. Menu choices are amazing and delicious. Whether is the first time you try Japanese or you are a connoisseur, give Sushi Cuisine a visit. Tried this place for the first time. Had the Nigiri lunch special(about $14 for a togo order). I normally go to Fuji or Sushi Garden 2 because they are closer. I doubt I will come back here. The sushi is overpriced, but my main complaint was the food. The sushi seemed fresh enough, but the nigiri cuts were too large and seemed to be lazy. The sticky rice had a decent flavor but didn't stick to the nigiri at all. Nigiri should be no more than 1 or 2 bites to finish. The california roll was fine, but no avocado. It's a shame. read more

This is by far the best sushi place in Turlock. The service is fast and the seafood is pretty good too. I usually judge a sushi joint by its salmon and its spicy tuna since they are the basis of many rolls. The salmon here is pretty good but the spicy tuna is nothing more than a regular tuna roll with a dab of hot sauce. Give the red and golden dragon rolls a try though, they're probably their best. The teriyaki chicken is a good alternative for the days where you want to eat something hot and want a change from the usual rolls. You should also try the little gummy ice cream dessert...I should probably remember the name if I'm recommending it, but hey, nobody's perfect :) Oh, and don't forget that they're closed between 2 and 5. I still haven't figured out why the hell some sushi places close between these hours and I've fallen victim to the distant second choice of In-N-Out more than a few times!! read more

The food was good, the staff was friendly, but the service was very poor. We kept being forgotten. It took them about 25 minutes to even come back to us to take our order. I watched them take the orders of people that were seated 20 minutes after us. Our sushi rolls came quickly, and they were great. We were still waiting on our entrees (with two young children, growing restless). 40 minutes after our sushi rolls arrived, we still did not have food. The waitstaff apologized and said they'd look into it. 50 minutes later (70 minutes since being seated), we still did not have our entrees. I asked a server to see if our food could be bagged up to go, because we had a movie to get to. Unfortunately, as nice as the waitstaff was, we still ended up paying full price for and my husband, kind to a fault, still gave a 20% tip, much to my disagreement. We paid $70 for food we couldn't eat warm. Our tempura and beef teriyaki will have to be reheated at home (and microwaved tempura is no good!). Super disappointed in the overall experience; especially as a middle class family during Christmastime. It was hard enough to pay $19 for an entree, but we though, hey, if it's worth it...! But it was $19 for two entrees bagged to go to be chucked in the microwave a day or two later. Sucks to be us! :( read more

I have eaten here numerous times and have been satisfied with the food and service. However, recently (March 2013), my father ordered their sea bass platter, noticed an off smell but did not send it back. Subsequently he endured food poisoning as a result. I sent them a message through Facebook but no reply. In general, if one detects an unusual odor from an entree send it back right away. read more

My wife and I ate here for lunch - we've had the Sushi before, and its ok. Tonight, I was looking through my bank statement and found two charges for the meal. I called Sushi Cuisine and was told that they had originally charged for a soft drink (which neither of us had ordered), and then had to re-run the card to take off the soft drink. Unfortunately, both charges were for the same amount, so how does that work? They also said they gave us an updated receipt and told us about the situation before we left. I mentioned that they hadn't told us anything about this and perhaps they had the wrong guests in mind. "No, you were given a second receipt" they reiterated multiple times. I asked to talk to the owner, who wasn't available. About 15 minutes later, the owner called and said "We only ran the card once. You'll have to call your bank and see why the charge posted twice." No apology. No "we're sorry for the inconvenience". Nothing. I called my bank and the charges were definitely run twice. Fortunately, Wells Fargo (which rocks!) will be taking care of this so I won't be paying double. The sushi is 3 stars at best (but to be fair, it's priced accordingly), and the service is easily a negative 5, so after wasting 45 minutes of my evening figuring out charges on my debit card, I'm wasting another 5 minutes to give Sushi Cuisine 1 star. read more

We used to go here a lot! The waiters/waitresses were very friendly. Last time we had a horrible experience and will not go back again. We notified the waiter about a gluten allergy and were asking her what ingredients are used in the lambada sauce that they use. The waittress said she would go ask in the kitchen and came back and responded in a very rude tone and said it is a family recipe and we cannot give out the information if you can't eat it then don't! Wow so shocking! We called the manager over and told her what happened and she was able to share the recipe without giving away the "secret." We felt very disrespected and I really wish we would have just left but we had a final meal there and will not go back again! We were not looking to take their family recipe. read more

First of all let me just start by saying that I'm not a picky eater. This was the place I chose to grab some take-out sushi for an anniversary celebration, nothing fancy just a couple CA Rolls. Transaction was quick and box of food came out quick. Once we proceeded to eat I realized there was a heavy smell of wasabi, no big deal its sushi. I grabbed a piece put it in my mouth and instantly started gagging. The avocado piece wasn't avocado it was a nice piece of wasabi instead! After wiping away tears and snot off my face I decided to go back to the restaurant. I asked for a manager and one came to me shortly. I explained my situation and here is where they lost my bussiness. The manager proceeded to say that they did not make CA Rolls with wasabi (ditto) I tried to explain that they must have made a mistake. He cut me off saying that I must have put the wasabi in the rolls (because everyone carries wasabi in their pockets). He actually had the nerve to accuse me. I was extremely pissed, at that point I asked for a refund and since 10-21-13 they have not gotten any of my hard earned money. If you like sushi don't go cheap with this sad establishment and lack of proper management. Get yourself some real sushi, moral of the story you get what you pay for and this restaurant is horrible the end. Hope I save some of you a bad experience. read more

It was ok. Service was kind of awkward. Our waitress was nice enough, but the girl who sat us & ran our food was pretty rude. She slammed our plates down & grunted out the names of the plates harshly & when she readied our table she did not put down everything we needed so we couldn't mix our wasabi & soy sauce once our food came. It wasn't a cultural thing either. I could tell she was raised in CA by her lack of accent. The rolls were ok. I'd rather eat at Sushi Garden II for the rolls. The teriyaki chicken that my bf ordered was delicious. Miso was great & the seaweed salad was not something I'd order again. I was expecting some cucumbers in my seaweed salad but this one didn't have it & it was more on the sweet side. I was hoping for it to be tangy. The CA rolls that my bf got were boring. It's busy for a reason. This is the best sushi I've had in Turlock. The California roll was very tasty and well rolled. Perfectly seasoned with tasty individual ingredients and the way it should be. The quality of sushi can be judged largely in the quality and seasoning of the rice, the tastiness of the fish & other ingredients, and the rolling/knife skills of the chef. I can't stand when sushi places serve me poorly-sliced, loose rolls that are hard to grab with chopsticks--if I see that right off the bat I will not go back. The Cali roll is my test for sushi bars. It's so easy to make tasty--even just a little mayo or seasoned sauce makes a world of difference. If a sushi joint can't even get a Cali roll right.......I will not go back for anything else. Sushi cuisine passed the test and I look forward to going back to try other things. read more

Anyway, we went there yesterday for my daughters 18th birthday and these are what we had...always fast service, very friendly and polite servers, the place is always clean, love their food ALOT !!! I think they have the best beef or chicken teriyaki, and the best tonkatsu !!! The best deal is going there during lunch to get their bento boxes. Check out the pictures I've just posted :) we go there as often as we can...our whole family's favorite and when we have out of town guests...guess where we take them ?
