Who would have imagined that such a fantastic Sushi Restaurant would be tucked away in a tiny strip mall? My friend and I decided to go here after reading some excellent reviews here on Yelp. We were promptly greeted by the sushi chef and a very nice lady that would end up being our server. I ordered the Dinner Special: Teriyaki Chicken, California Roll, Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura, Miso Soup, Salad, and Rice. My friend ordered two California Rolls and a Rainbow Roll. The best part about the dinner special is that it's less than $10 for all of that food! The a la carte rolls are priced as expected, however. We ordered our food and it was at our table within 10 minutes. The cooked food was fresh and hot and the rolls were moist and the fish tender, which is extremely important to me. It is the perfect neighborhood sushi restaurant. Not glitzy - it doesn't need to be. The food speaks for itself. Amazing sushi and sashimi. I can't speak to the rolls because we never got to them. I have been coming here since I was about sixteen, and this place honestly never dissapoints. The food is and continues to be amazing. The prices are very reasonable in my opinion. However, the best part is the customer service. Tommy the Sushi Chef always looks out for you. He asks about your day, and many more. He really cares about his customers. A few times and you'll see why this place is so good. The park is by far the only downside being in such a small plaza, but it doesn't take away even a star considering how amazing the place is. If you are in the Sun Valley area and need a quick lunch, I recommend Sushi Dragon. Great bento box lunch specials for about $10. You get a good amount of food and variety. I liked the tempura, however, the chicken teriyaki was drowning in artificial tasting sauce. I didn't try any sushi but hope to go back to do so. Very small restaurant with a couple of tables and booths, as well as sushi bar seating. The service was quick and they have a huge parking lot in the back. read more

It was an impressive find actually. I wanted to order their teriyaki chicken and a sushi dish. I got to mention that their chicken wasn't bad. I ordered their Caterpillar Roll and it was delicious also. A friend came later to join and ordered the Philly roll and I have to mention that their salmon (one of the fish i dislike) was really really good.. I actually found this place on yelp. My hubby grew up in this area and he never knew this place existed. It is a hole in the wall. But, Wow!! This place has great sushi for good prices and they are so friendly, Tommy and the waitress (didnt get her name) were very welcoming. It looks like they actually like what they are doing. We came in about 5pm. We were the only ones in there for about 30 minutes. the customers who were coming seemed like they were not new to the place because Tommy knew them by their first names. this place has an intimate atmosphere, There is happy hour all week between the hours of 5pm to 7pm and there are specials on handrolls and apetizers. For example, gyoza was $3.99 and large sake was $4. The prices for the sushi were reasonable. One warning is the parking. Parking isnt that great. A super awesome surprise! I took my customer LA Shirt Printing to lunch today and Rafael recommended this spot. I'm always reluctant trying a new sushi spot but I'm glad we came to Sushi Dragon. It's a small place and was totally empty when we arrived. Ok so I was nervous. The place was packed within 30 minutes. We ordered some toro and albacore to start then to the blue fin. I had to order another round of blue fin as I came up empty the last few times try to order it the last few spots. Everything rocked and I will be back for sure. This place is a hidden gem. It is in a little unsuspecting plaza type of setup that looks a little sketchy - which was the reason for my months of hesitation at trying this place. The sushi is always the freshest - he picks it up that morning from the market downtown! I've the best tuna, halibut and salmon here. and not usually of fan of salmon. The first time I had sardines and pompono is, by his suggestion, and I love it! I have yet to have sushi, sashimi, or roll that wasn't delicious. His taco (octopus has always been the freshest I've had in the valley). Tommy and his staff (yeah Yumi!) are the nicest people, I feel like I'm going in to visit close friends whenever I go. Another hidden little gem of Sushi bars. Got here just before 2nd shift opening on a saturday and took advantage of happy hour prices. Roughly $50 before tip got me a 3 orders of nigiri, 2 rolls, and Dynamite. Don't let the appearance fool you, there is quality food and service here. I think the Chef, Tommy-san is still surprised by the boost in business he has received. He started me off with a tuna salad with a great tasting dressing of soy/vinegar and red chili that gave it the right kick. I requested my octopus nigiri in a certain style of cut which he happily and precisely zig zagged to release the flavor . Then came salmon belly and fresh orange clam. Those two came 3 piece style. The Dynamite was a minimal creation finely crafted and presented of scallops in white wine with onions and then the spicy mayo. Then came the Sun Valley roll of tempura scallops & onions and the Jimmy roll of imitation crab and tempura shrimp topped with broiled eel. Forgot to ask if it was saltwater or fresh. The rolls are made long but not too skinny, with the tops proportioned. When I ordered, I let him know spicy was a preference for the tuna and he did not have to hold back. I got a 6 piece of some fresh looking dark red tuna and the same dried chili from the salad which blended well. Throughout the meal, friendly conversation took place about life and food, with the server as well. Definitely will come back here for Omakase and Bento lunch. read more

I've been to a lot of sushi places from highly rated and reviewed (300+ reviews) to 5 money sign sushi joints. With all that under my belt I can say this Sushi place is probably one of the best I've had in a long time. Tommy the Sushi chief is amazing and his motivation for bringing the best food to your mouth makes this place at least worth checking out. He would not serve anything he would not eat himself and that's a rare thing in a lot of sushi places. My only regret is not finding this place sooner.... I just came here with my grandma. Small little place. Found it on yelp we where by the area. But like they say the little whole in the walls are the best. Sushi was really good. Happy hour from 4-7. The chef is the owner. Super nice. we talked about our kids and each other family's. The lady who took our order and drinks was really sweet. We ate alot of food. Just went and ordered take out from them. Pork gyoza (pot stickers) were good. But their spider roll...in the fried crab in it, the shells were totally still in the fried pieces. I've had spider rolls at a couple places and I've never seen this. I literally couldn't chew the pieces in the sushi roll because it was just total shell, NO meat in it whatsoever. It was one of the more expensive rolls too. Their other rolls may be ok, but do NOT get this one!! Solid sushi! We just moved to the neighborhood and were missing our old "regular" sushi place. We decided to check out this place after reading reviews. Our party had nigiri, rolls, a combo teriyaki box, and appetizers and it was all tasty and well-made. Our friends' 4-year-old even found some sushi he liked (after insisting he didn't like "that yucky kind") and kept trading his tempura for his dad's sushi. :) Plus it was less expensive than our old place, which means we can come more often. ;) We also love that it's family-owned! Everyone was very friendly! Parking on the street, mainly, as the lot is super small. Small space, so call ahead if you have a larger party. He goes every morning to hand pick his fish for the day from the fish market downtown. When lunch is slow he'll come over and chat with you.
