Small hole in the wall sushi place. Staff was very accommodating and polite. Visited during lunch hours so it was a little busy, but served the food reasonably fast. I only had a tuna roll and was fresh. Hard to screw up a tuna roll. I can tell by the refrigerator display fish is kept at the right temperature. Display of fish is sloppy, but not my biggest concern. I've eaten at many different sushi places throughout the US and this receives a 4-5 star. Had a late night craving for sushi and haven't ate at any of the sushi places near me. Looked on yelp and decided this place is probably good since the ratings are 4 1/2 star's. We had the Sun Valley roll, the albacore roll, the spicy tuna roll, shrimp tempura roll, and the rainbow roll. I'm a huge albacore fan, it was very fishy. I don't like fishy fish! Fresh fish shouldn't be fishy. The spicy tuna roll was great, fresh. The sun valley roll was amazing. The rainbow roll was amazing! And the shrimp tempura roll was great. Only problem was the size of the roll. They were small for the price. I would eat here again, but be more selective now. read more

Definitely the only place to go for miles (except for Chiba's) for sushi. Located in a really bad! area in sun valley but once you are in you are safe .. lol .. jk. Price is not great here but the sushi is surprisingly fresh, especially considering where this restaurant is (although maybe not that surprising since it's still in LA). Nigiri sushi here is really good although I was slightly disappointed by the portions in their sushi combination. Tried it for the first time. I was very pleasantly surprised. All the fish was fresh because Tommy, the owner and sushi-man, shops daily. Tommy and his staff make you feel very comfortable and welcome. They even make it a point to keep a record of what you like to eat. I looked at the food and talked to Tommy before deciding on omakase (I'll put myself in your hands). This is a terrific neighborhood Japanese sushi bar and restaurant. There were several Japanese dining there who still live nearby which says a lot for the place. When the check came I was again pleasantly surprised at the reasonable price. If you are trying to impress somebody by paying big bucks like at Chiba this place isn't for you and I would prefer you not try Sushi Dragon; but, if you have real knowledge of sushi and other types of Japanese food and don't mind reasonable prices, you should give this place a try. I have since become a regular of Tommy's sushi bar. I still order omakase and have yet to be disappointed. read more

I was pleasantly surprised! This is a classic example of don't judge a book by its cover. Ya it might be in a sketch mini mall in Sun Valley, but other than that, there's nothing else to complain about. I ordered a lunch combination of Teri Chicken, Mixed Tempura, & Sashimi, asking for the meal sans rice, darn that evil curse! They were nice enough to double my salad portion which was very considerate. The sashimi was good and Chef Tommy provided a nice variety of all different types, which is a welcomed change from the standard salmon, albacore, & tuna you would get from other sushi place. The service was awesome! Both the waitresses, Yumi & Reina, and Chef Tommy took the time to chat with me and ask my name and how my meal was going. They even added a special treat at the end of the meal when they found out I discovered them through yelp. I can't wait to come back for Happy Hour! Passed this place at least 5000 times. Definite hole in the wall. Sat immediately and didn't wait over 15 min for any given order. Service was 5 star. As for the food I got stuffed jalapeño shrimp bombs gyoza yellowtail collar salmon tuna and yellowtail nigiri. The sushi was fresh. The hot food was hot and all had complimenting sauces. I found this place on Yelp. I have lived in Tujunga for about 2 years and have not found a sushi place. This is now my place. The sashimi was FRESH and delicious. Everything was delicious. A must visit. The only thing I didn't like about the restaurant is they didn't have refillable drinks and the service was a little slow.
